Percy is a strategical genius, and this hasn't been said enough. I don't get why the Fandom collectively thinks Percy is dumb or needs Annabeth's help with stuff or isn't as smart as Annabeth. Even Annabeth, who should know better, sometimes treats him as such.
Reyna, Piper, Annabeth, and everyone else needs to hear this:
The truth is Percy is a far better strategist than Annabeth because Annabeth can't think quickly on her feet at all. She can weave accurate plans but only when given time and enough information, and only when she is looking at the bigger picture.
Annabeth does, however, have an almost encompassing knowledge of most things, but information is just information unless you apply it.
No one and I mean no one is better than Percy at thinking on his feet.
Mostly almost always Percy seems to be unaware of who his enemies are and yet still manages to go up against them and eventually win while Annabeth is at times left reeling.Percy has run into monsters/deities he had no idea about and still manages to figure out their goals in time to trick/defeat them.
Who figured out Ares's motives? Percy
Who figured out Luke's scheme? Percy
Who tricked Crusty without lifting a finger? Percy
Who figured out the use for Hermes's gift? Percy
Who came up with a way to show Luke's betrayal to the camp? Percy
Who tricked Atlas? Percy
Who made up the entire battle plan in the Battle of Manhattan? Percy
Percy tricks Phineas by literally goading Gaea. He could only do that if he himself understood how Gaea's mind worked.
He singlehandedly subdued Chrysaor (Yes, Frank was the key player, but we are counting the plan only)
Came up with the plan to defeat Polybotes and also executed it singlehandedly
Effortlessly argued and out debated the Roman Senate all by himself
Figured out how to defeat Geras (personification of old age)
Outsmarted Antaeus in his own ring
Managed to negotiate and attain the loyalties of River gods in the Battle of Manhattan.
Manipulated the entirety of New York Law department/ journalists into believing his fabricated cover story and dropping all legal charges against him at 12 years old.
There's so many instances of Percy being far more strategic than Annabeth herself.
Not only this, but Percy is extremely and terrifyingly perceptive and just a damn genius at getting people to give up secrets. [Done this to literally everyone since Book 1]
Athena is the personification of cold hard logic and facts hence Annabeth follows and so she isn't nearly good enough at reading people's intentions or body language.
Yes, Annabeth can be quick on her feet, but it's not very natural to her as it is to Percy because Annabeth believes in pre-planning, but Percy understands and embodies adaptation.
It's a flaw of many of Athena's children. The problem is Athena is a God with the mind of one, nothing stumps her so at any given moment she can and will always have the best plan because her mind is much more rapid than the surrounding circumstances.
Her children, however, are mortal and hence always vulnerable to surprises.
It's the reason why Athena favors Odysseus the most, over everyone. He was quick on his feet, along with being a great planner. He was a strategic genius, and my headcanon is that part of the reason Athena hates Percy is because her greatest enemy's son reminds her of her most favored person.
I recently edited this, and I am sure it's still missing some stuff. That's how underhighlighted Percy's intellectual feats are.
Let's look at this rationally. I will be considering feats, raw power, abilities and their versatility, variable experiences, training environment, and last but not least Percy’s realistic motivations for gaining more and more power while Jason's powers stifling due to a stagnant environment, all based on the amount of information provided to us.
(I am not considering the fight op is talking about, because they were both being controlled by eidolons and the fight was prematurely interrupted and contrary to op's opinion Jason was also very biased to himself after the fight and if we are considering unreliable narrators, Piper whose pov we have for this fight is infatuated with Jason and that also counts as grounds for unreliable narration)
Percy has got Jason beat in feats before they even met, and especially after they met. Cue Tartarus. As for Jason, we know very little about the things he did and what other feats he has. We really don't have much to go off of regarding Jason's expertise in either hand to hand or power based combat but I assume everyone is leaning towards Jason in terms of hand to hand because he referenced that he fought Krios with his bare hands. Percy had wrestled with Geras, the very personification of old age who is impossible to overpower and managed to hold his own.
So the hand to hand combat is a maybe. But Jason isn't a solo fighter. Percy is, and also Percy's way better at thinking on his feet. Percy has had a very non-linear approach of learning about the demigod world and his own powers, almost all through practical experience with little traditional training. Which make his mindset towards battle superior to Jason's as Percy has no preconceived notions about domains and their limits and can actualize most things he visualizes while Jason is a bit hindered by Camp Jupiter's approach towards training for the betterment of the legion, more so than honing individual capabilities. This makes Percy terrible at teamwork and synchronized fighting as his experience lies mostly in going solo in combat while Jason is much better at the former than him.
We have also seen that Greek demigods have more volatile powers than Romans do; Thalia, Nico and Percy all show a strong innate raw power as compared to the Roman aspects as evidenced by the Gods themselves saying that their Roman aspects are much more restrained and disciplined while their Greek aspects are more wild and primal. Another canon evidence for this is how Greek demigods have such strong scents that monsters hunt them for childhood, leading to much lower life expectancy as compared to Roman demigods.
Percy has probably the most volatile as well as versatile powers. He can heal himself something Jason can't do, something no other demigod can do. Most fictional magic systems almost always associate the water attribute to healing, so it is unlikely that Jason will be able to self heal, even after unlocking his full potential.
Not to mention, Percy's abilities might not be the best[Hades children have better abilities], but in terms of raw power, no one is close to Percy. Blowing up an entire volcano, lifting an entire river off its riverbed, holding the weight of the sky, jumping an impossible distance to get to the House of Night, causing hurricanes, storms, a tidal wave so great the God of War was smothered, summoning water by will, going toe to toe with Chardybis in her own domain, and then some.
And sure, Percy seems less experienced than Jason, but he has been in more life-death situations than Jason in such a small amount of time that he had to adapt far more. Then, he has the added experience from Tartarus. And even without it, Percy gets the edge cause in mere span of 5 years of being in the demigod world, Percy has killed almost every monster that walks, fought Titan, fought minor gods and even a god. Fought and won.
Even without sea, Percy has higher raw power, more versatile abilities, and has experimented more with his powers than Jason. The latter has not even honed the lightning aspect of his powers. He has killed multiple titans, fought Kronos to a standstill, fought giants singlehandedly, fought a protegeneoi, and won against it in her own domain. That scales Percy on a level that is unattainable by any current demigod in the verse. Not even a god to our knowledge of Riordanverse has bested that feat.
I love Jason as much as the next person, and I always consider Jason to be a stronger demigod than Nico, who is generally scaled after Percy. Cause of stamina reasons. Nico’s powers are beyond exceptional, but they have limited usage time while Jason has higher stamina reserves than Nico and is a better combatant than Nico. But you can't apply this metric to Percy. Percy disarmed Luke in their first fight with little knowledge of sword techniques. Luke, who was considered the best swordsman in the last 300 years. And Luke taught Percy after that, too.
I know everyone likes to cry plot armor over Percy's powers, but technically, it is his series. There would be no point to it if he didn't get stronger. That's literally the definition of a main character. And not to mention that every time Percy gets stronger, it's always due to a strong emotional, physical trauma, or an equally terrible price that is a result of a curse/blessing. Moreover, Percy has realistic motivations to try and grow stronger since he did all he could to survive since he was 12 and was basically thrown uninitiated as a bait to the strongest monsters and was repeatedly told his birth was a mistake so much so that gods voted on whether to keep him alive. Percy has to be strong in a world where everything is out to get him. The literal head and commander of the Titan Army was out to kill Percy since he was 12 and quite dedicatedly, and if that wasn't enough, he was wanted in multiple states for a false terrorism charge. And if you remember, he was rather ostracized at camp until after Titan's Curse.
Jason was the head of a legion, a praetor, revered by his comrades and already strongest among those he led or worked with. He had little exposure to any other extreme life death fatalities or any experience with being persecuted aside from the usual monsters and the legion training.
In conclusion, Percy beats Jason on land with a considerable margin; Percy beats Jason in the Underworld by an even bigger margin since Jason can't do much in the Underworld while Percy can control all the rivers of the Underworld and is used to the noxious environment present there. My apologies, but the near the sea comment made by op is practically delusional; Percy could literally sic any sea creature on Jason to take him out, doesn't even have to do it himself. Percy absolutely completely demolishes and disintegrates Jason near the sea.
Hot take. Jason is actually stronger and better at fighting than Percy. If they fought each other, Jason would win, even if they were at sea. Reading them fight together I'm now convinced. Percy making us believe otherwise is just him being an unreliable narrator
What do you mean he kept roaming around??? MONSTERS WERE CHASING HIM ALL THE WAY FROM THE FOREST TO CAMP JUPITER. UNLIKE JASON WHO HAD OTHER PEOPLE WITH HIM AND WAS DROPPED IN A RELATIVELY SAFER AREA, PERCY WOKE UP WITH NO MEMORY IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WITH GORGONS ON HIS TRAIL. GORGONS, WHICH DID NOT REMAIN DEAD. OF COURSE HE HAD TO MOVE CONSTANLY; PERCY KNOWS EXACTLY HOW TO STAY ALIVE AND WAS OBVIOUSLY SMART ENOUGH TO ALWAYS KEEP THEM GUESSING.
But obviously, some readers are too ignorant or too willfully blind to understand that.
Even after he came to camp Jupiter, he had to immediately fight for his place. His only two friends so far were in a tough situation. Frank was being sent on a quest. Percy, being the loyal, selfless guy that he is, obviously went with him and Hazel to protect them and also find answers to his amnesia.
WHILE ANNABETH WAS BUSY LOOKING FOR PERCY, HE WAS BUSY SURVIVING, SAVING HIS FRIENDS, SAVING THE WORLD AND SAVING CAMP JUPITER. BUT OF COURSE HE IS AN IDIOT FOR NOT STAYING IN ONE PLACE WHEN THE HIS HELP WAS REQUIRED AND NECESSARY ELSEWHERE TO YOU KNOW HELP HIS FRIENDS AND SAVE CAMP JUPITER???
How braindead and delusional can Annabeth stans be? Sorry to burst your bubble, but Percy has other things to do than deal with Annabeth's whims and demands and he has other people who mean just as much to him as Annabeth, who he would do anything for.
And you should be thankful. Annabeth would be dead without Percy. If he hadn't jumped to join Annabeth in Tartarus, that is. You can love Annabeth, you should, she has certain good contributions but stop putting her on a non-existent pedestal especially to demean Percy, not when she has so many flaws and obvious controlling and toxic behavior towards Percy. There's no take you could have that would make anyone hate Percy and like Annabeth, whereas the reverse already exists. So stop fueling the already growing hatred against Annabeth by making such idiotic hate comments and consistent abuse apologism on Annabeth's behalf.
IF YOU'RE A PERC@BETH STAN KEEP SCROLLING. THIS IS NOT FOR YOU.
The abuse apologism is among these fans is sickening.
Do you see this?
Annabeth has to hurt Percy to let him know she's about to kiss him?
What the actual fuck. She could just. Ask. for. consent. "hey Percy can I kiss you?" It's not that fucking hard. If she doesn't understand what consent is then she has no right kissing anyone until she learns. I don't care how old she is. She's not a baby. This is a romantic kiss. Get fucking permission without hurting him. Use your fucking words.
Also no, this is not a discussion post. Don't come here defending this comment, I will not respond and will block you.
Demean your partner consistently ✅️
Physically hurt him multiple times ✅️
Undermine him and his achievements ✅️
Blame him for being in mortal danger and make him apologize for it. ✅️
Disregard his trauma and his self-esteem issues and feed into them ✅️
Annabeth's hitting a pentafecta on this; high achiever indeed. There's probably more. Like when Annabeth talks about leasing Percy or when Percy says he fears Annabeth and how she consistently tries to keep him on his toes and how bringing up Rachel on any other woman is an absolute no-no around Annabeth.
Battle of Labyrinth, Mark of Athena and House of Hades truly showcase the toxic traits of Annabeth.
Also, if you have read Chalice of the Gods or any other non canon fanfics Rick has published, you will clearly see the propaganda of putting Annabeth on a pedestal by undermining Percy is a legitimate thing.
And to all the skeptics, let's look at it logically. Please read solo Percy books and compare the characterization of Percy there with books in which Percy is with Annabeth, especially in later books. See how his character suffers.
The Sword of Hades, Son of Neptune, Son of Sobek, The Stolen Chariot, and so on.
Brb currently thinking how insane it would have been if Percy judo flipped Annabeth at the end of Titans curse like she did with him in MoA 💀 💃🏽
“Annabeth pulled away and studied his face. "Gods, I never thought-“
Percy grabbed her wrist and flipped her over his shoulder. She slammed into the stone pavement. The hunters cried out. Some surged forward, but Artemis shouted, "Hold! Stand down!'
Percy put his knee on annabeths chest. He pushed his forearm against her throat. he didn't care what the hunters or Artemis thought. A white-hot lump of anger expanded in his chest. A tumor of worry and bitterness that he been carrying around since the dance at Westover.
"If you ever leave me again," he said, his eyes stinging, "I swear to all the gods”.
As toxic as Percabeth is, they’re still teenagers and there’s a chance that they could grow past that and Annabeth would overcome it. Heroes of Olympus makes that feel unlikely though.
I hold that belief because my relationship with my spouse started out unhealthy- I was extremely codependent due to not having many friends growing up and never quite getting the emotional support I needed from my family. But we grew past that and 11 years later, we’re approaching our 7 year marriage anniversary with our biggest goals as a couple (besides raising our kids) is to always communicate and it’s working well for us.
Annabeth in particular never maturing and growing past it doesn’t have to be what happens. They’re still teenagers, she could grow past it.
Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem like she’s going to grow and so many people act like the toxic relationship they have is normal and I’m just like…. No. Never mind, I don’t want to read Percabeth. Maybe I’ll ship Percy with Apollo or no one then.
I also thought of it that way. Annabeth would mature and come to understand the error of her ways, and since Percy means so much to her, she would reflect on all the things she says and does and change her ways in order to pursue a more healthier and long lasting relationship.
Then I read the Chalice of God and Read.Riordan. entries, and lost all hope. Annabeth is a character that you think cannot devolve more, and she surprises you in the worst possible way.
I have completely given up on Percabeth, and I will be reading any incoming books just for Percy as I always do.
Perpollo is a new but great ship that has so much potential but I am not really too in it yet but at least due to Apollo, Percy might ascend to godhood which is something I think is inevitable for someone of Percy's stature and power.
Right now, I think I am all for Perachel only. It's the best possible ship for Percy and for Rachel, and if you are interested, you should check out those posts.
But seriously, between their shared prophetic abilities, creative quick thinking minds, fun and easy going personality, and a deep care and affection for each other, Percy and Rachel are literally meant to be.
The Spirit of Delphi is extremely ancient and free and given Oracle of Delphi was once in Poseidon's domain, she could change alliances and freely date Percy, but my favorite headcanon is that Percy becomes a God and Rachel decides to swear allegiance to him instead.
Also, if you have any Perpollo recommendations or posts to share, please do.
frank: let me get this straight. thalia and jason’s domain is the sky, percy’s domain is water, and hazel and nico’s domain is basically the underground?
annabeth: yes
frank: but… can’t percy also create storms? that have clouds and lightning and thunder?
annabeth: yes
frank: and… and can’t percy also create earthquakes and make volcanoes erupt?
annabeth: yes
frank: so… in a way, doesn’t that mean everywhere is percy’s domain?
annabeth: yes.
annabeth: but don’t tell him. he hasn’t had that realization yet
Yess, the Fandom really needs to speak on this. Annabeth Chase is definitely not the smartest cause Percy surpasses her both in terms of the amounts of strategies made and the depth of strategic ability and I have had up to here with people both outside and inside the Fandom dismissing Percy as a powerful but dumb guy, like have we read the same books?!!
@phykios Classics Percy confirmed!
Also, finally some good Read Riordan content.
It's only in Percy Jackson Fandom where shipping anything other than the main couple seemingly warrants death sentence.
Every other fandom explores so many other ships as shipping between characters helps in finding out how far the depth of their relationship might go.
Personally, I have always loved the idea of what Perachel could have been if Rick had actually tried. Imagine:
Part 1
Percy staying up thinking about this mortal he accidentally ran his sword through; she looked furious and confused and long after its over he is left wondering if that's how his mother felt when she met his father. He wonders it ceaselessly at times.
Rachel living in fear of everything she sees, plagued by dreams and visions, and this guy who ran her through with a literal sword calling her a mortal and surprised she can even see the sword just straight up leaves, taking all the answers with him. Long after it's happened, all she's left with is a canvas filled with the sketches of a sea-green eyed guy.
Then fate connects them yet again because Percy needs her. It starts with his need to fulfill the quest and her need for answers, but the awe Percy must have felt at Rachel's courage through the whole quest despite the incessant quips from Annabeth. He is sorry then that he has dragged someone like her to her death and if that weren't enough they run into the Titan King and he knows that maybe he has doomed them all and Rachel, mortal and unreliable according to Annabeth , throws a hairbrush at the literal actual Kronos himself.
On the flip side, Rachel knows for sure that whatever happens with her visions she will always dream of the sea green eyed hero. The images are everywhere. Him fighting, him negotiating, leading, saving them so she draws and draws and hopes it stops.
It has been noted somewhere in the Fandom once that the only reason Rachel was attracted to Percy was because he introduced her to a whole new world as if that isn't reason enough, as if they need a reason. As if it's not happened before with The Sea God and the Queen among mortals.
It doesn't stop for either of them cause now Rachel knows there's a prophecy hanging over Percy's head, and Percy knows she will see its outcome. So they talk of anything but this, whatever they can because neither of them wants to see how it ends, for the world and for them.
Long before Blackjack crashes his hooves on Paul's Prius, he knows it's coming; the end of the world, and it's far too late to look back. He leaves Rachel there because he is never taking her on a mission again, Morpheus knows he has enough nightmares of something happening to her.
Rachel watches him leave as a prickling at the back of her head tells her one of them isn't returning and no matter how wrong it is, she wishes against all odds that it won't be him.
After that, Rachel has only her visions to keep her company. She has started seeing someone's past , it's not his, but if she tries hard enough, she sees him once or twice. She commits the visions to memory, immortalizing them in art.
Percy doesn't speak to her for a good while after that, not because he doesn't want to, he would do anything to speak to her instead of doing this but his life's already forfeit so he might as well save the world. But he doesn't need to speak to her; they talk best in their visions. When of present, they are always of her. He understands why he sees them, for it's necessary to know what she sees, for she can't tell him, but he's glad for the excuse of it. He gets to see her, and he stays sane.
Yup, she's certifiably insane when she gets in a helicopter to see him, but he needs to know.
He was quite prepared for it, his death and her possibly becoming the Oracle later on. He knew it would happen. He is glad in some part of him that he would die long before it comes to fruition, that he would die in a world where they were together.
It would be their shared tragedy, them fulfilling their destinies as he escapes the divine while she ties herself to them.
Rachel had prepared for the same. She could give up over men , she was certain she would never think of them again after Perseus Jackson dies; it would be her eternal mourning and if someone asks she might tell them that the Spirit of Delphi lost her favored hero to her own prophecy.
But Fate's far too cruel.
Rachel is euphoric. He won't die, HE WON'T DIE. He's NOT the hero. The implications don't set in until she is facing him in the Throne room of Olympus. She says the things she doesn't even mean so she can soften the blow. She sees the break in him in his eyes as they share a last glance instead of a last kiss.
It clicks for him after Luke dies a hero. The bittersweet pang of triumph and loss. Blackjack is gone, and she's taken him. He isn't nearly as furious over that as he is about what she is to do.
He doesn't know if the curse is broken for sure, and he definitely doesn't want her to be the test run. Does she not know visions of her ending up like May Castellan are what breaks him in his worst nightmares.
He is the one who sees her take the oath, as she breaks what's left of them. A moment before all things come crashing down, she looks at him, and he looks back. The Oracle of Delphi and The Savior of Olympus have roles to play and loving the other isn't written in fates or destiny but they share one last vision of a perfect kiss as they resign themselves to their fate for the rest of their life; Their destinies forever entwined but never joined.
....Part 2 pending
(Also going to write headcanons of just perachel things and there are many so wait up)
Isn’t it funny how Klaus is always like “more than you know” when he’s taking about his feelings towards Hayley? Because it’s true! He loved her more than anyone ever knew and it’s so heartbreaking because no one knows in how much pain he is over her loss.
I don't know if you're taking story requests, but I hope you won't turn down my suggestion to write a one-part humanfanfic. Subject: Hayley Marshall is the only daughter of a poor family. When she was only 13 years old, her parents were killed because of a debt they couldn't pay, leaving her completely alone. But the situation will soon change. King Mikael's servants found the young girl sleeping on a bench outside and immediately brought her to King Mikael. This allowed Hayley to receive the necessary training and become the first female bodyguard in King Mikael's palace. From the age of 13 until he was 18, she was Lord Klaus' bodyguard. Hayley had managed to maintain her professionalism over the years, but her feelings confused her. Could it be that she has romantic feelings for Klaus, who is feared by everyone, trapped by rules, and who must soon marry a lady he does not love for the good of his people?
While I am busy with studies, I would never turn down such a kind request. Though I'm not sure it could be wrapped up in one part. But we will see.
Part 1
Hayley
He was late, Prince Klaus was late. Again. There were two rumors circulating to explain this. Either he does it purposefully to spite his father, or he really engages in a sex spree at night, leaving him exhausted in the morning. And if Hayley knew anything about him at all, she would bet it was the former. Her contract for being a bodyguard was almost at its end. With whatever money she had saved over the years; she could use that to leave for someplace else, be free, and see the world for herself. Why, then, did the thought of leaving elicit a pang of pain at every instance she thought of it. But now was not the time to be daydreaming of yet unachievable destinations.
With a long suffering sigh, she threw open the door to the prince's room. This would usually be an assured invitation for certain death but being privy to his personal life for so long a time of being his bodyguard had earned her some privileges and Klaus had no business telling her when to walk in his chambers if he counted on her to do the protecting.....
The thought vanished as soon as it spurred by the sight she just walked in on. Klaus, half-naked, clad in a towel, his hair partially drenched. Yes, she had seen this sight before, yes she should have been used to it but was she? She will be damned if she said yes. There was something alluring about him, even when countless people deemed him the personification of darkness. "After all, one must never mistake the allure of darkness. Even the purest hearts are drawn to it." It was something Klaus used to spout from all those philosophy texts he read just to criticise the writers on their limited understanding of human emotions.
"What's the matter little wolf? It's nothing you haven't seen before." A lopsided smile with those stunning blue eyes sparkling in mischief motivated Hayley to look away, her face heating in embarrassment for spacing out while staring at him and also due to the sight of his....
What in the devil's name was wrong with her?She was his bodyguard, not one of the flirtatious maids in the castle that swooned at the sight of him despite fearing him. Not one to lose, she quipped back equally as fast: " Not new but definitely soon to be extinct if you choose to while around and make us late for the fifth time this week to the King's daily briefings."
The sparkle in his eyes snuffed out at the mention of the King. A colder tone overtook his next response, "Yes, yes the ever important briefings from my father which are but his ruse to bare my inability to rule to the lot of his ministers and rub it in my face every other chance he gets. While I would love nothing more than to meet a swift end and be rid of these by all means let us hurry."
"Why are you yelling at me? Listen here Klaus, it's one thing to be furious at your father and entirely another to take it out on me. It's my job to do what King Mikael asks of me and I will not be made to deal with your temper tantrums." What an infuriating bastard Klaus was but she understood. With how much Mikael controlled his life, these little ways were his only means of rebellion, something his father couldn't punish him for since the meetings were public.
Klaus
He didn't like taking his anger out on Hayley, but usually it was too late by the time he was done with it. It's infuriating how she keeps drawing the line between them, keeping up that flimsy facade of professionalism. Despite all the years they have spent together, she so readily dismisses it as her job. He could still remember the first time they met:
"Boy, this is Hayley. She will be your bodyguard. No questions asked, boy. Learn a thing or two about fighting from the girl Niklaus. It just might elevate you to that of a soldier's level of expertise in fighting. " He had decided he would loathe the girl. No servant of his father was an ally of his. And a woman, no a girl, would protect him. It enraged him beyond any sense that he Klaus Mikaelson, the only heir of the warrior Dynasty, was being looked down upon by not only his father but not he had added some girl to the list. "You, I don't care what your name is, I do not require your services. You and I shall spar, and when I emerge victorious, you shall relay this to my father and have your services offered elsewhere."
He hadn't looked at her properly before but she certainly had a unique appearance. Brunette hair and eyes like nothing Klaus had ever seen. Hazel green. There was a spark of fury and resolve when he declared his challenge, and to his astonishment, the girl had the audacity to roll her eyes. "If, Prince, if. " And no one had ever made his title sound so much like an insult before. If he wanted to prove his father wring before, now he wanted the girl humiliated. How dare she assume such a tone with him.
So spar they did. And Klaus had never in his entire life proven so wrong. She fought with so much ferocity that it reminded him of a wolf cub he had taken in when he found it injured and had raised it into a wolf only for his father to butcher it. There was no clear winner, but Klaus might as well admit he had lost, given how exhausted he looked compared to her. "Ugh, were you in military training, too? Why the hell do you need a bodyguard if you fight this well? The king is nuts." He shut her mouth by slamming his hand over it. Did she have a death wish, and did she just call his father nuts? "Don't say that in open little wolf." She had taken such offense to that nickname, but he had an inch or two over her in height and was definitely more built. He would find out in passing years that the vpw he had made of loathing her would turn out to be impossible to uphold. Even then, and especially now. So as they both headed towards his father's court, he muttered in a voice only Hayley could hear, "Sorry, little wolf. Bad morning. I will make it up to you later." And for all her claims of hating that nickname, he could swear he saw her smile.
Hayley
By the time we greeted the King, all the Council members had settled themselves. There were more so than usual. What the hell was going on? She excused herself to her reserved position near Klaus's seat when King Mikael's booming voice thundered the words that somehow shattered her heart. "Niklaus, I have decided that you shall marry the Princess of Mystic Falls, Princess Caroline. Nuptials will take place two weeks from now."
That's all for part 1. Send me a query for part 2 as a reminder, and let me know if you actually like this.
