Healthcare shouldn't have a weight minimum or weight maximum, just because a condition goes hand in hand with too much or too little weight does not mean that condition should be ignored in patients with the opposite presentation. I.e. a PCOS patient who is underweight shouldn't be having their PCOS symptoms ignored (and also shouldn't be told to lose even more weight), and an obese patient with anorexia shouldn't have their disordered eating ignored either, especially in cases of rapid weight loss in order to qualify for surgical procedures and the cardiac damage anorexia does no matter the current weight of the patient

Before I returned to Veterinary medicine, I was in Cabinetmaking and wood technology, and there were times I wondered why the fuck half the regs we had needed to be written down, why our safety briefings needed to be so damn long, I just wanted to build... then a kid the year behind me in trade school decided to skip a push stick on the jointer 7 months into his training, rushing through his spring project. Kid lost all function in his left hand, severed his FCU Tendon, lost part of his triquertum bone and required 58 stitches in his hand and wrist and a blood transfusion. The stain on the concrete never quite went away before I finished my program. Peroxide, concrete stripper... it wouldn't fully get rid of the brown stain at the base of the jointer. The next week we all had to go from a 10 hour OSHA certification to a 30 hour OSHA certification. Thankfully, he only fucked himself up ignoring safety regulations.
I've seen kickbacks fly at people operating equipment behind the tablesaws, had my own close call while running a CNC router table when someone else had a tablesaw throw a piece towards me, ruin a cnc bit and a $150 rough sawn price figured maple slab, but it got caught up in the running CNC and not me by about 7° difference in its trajectory angle at takeoff and about 18 inches from my face. The other woodworker didn't get impaled or lose a finger because they followed all their OSHA regs, I was following OSHA regs for the CNC router, but there still could have been a really dangerous incident there because of the routers location behind a tablesaw.
OSHA regs are just the tip of the iceberg for work safety, because our shop was set up for compliance, but having seen some of the shit I've seen, there are layout changes I would have made to our shop to be mindful of the fact that there were 20-40 people working in the shop at a time. I've had saws run away on me when their primary switches failed in the on position (part of why all tools need fail safes and backup power cutting options) I've had saw kicks and throwbacks, the dangerous shit that will happen to every woodworker if they work long enough, I haven't had any injuries from woodworking beyond splinters and blisters because I follow my OSHA shit.
Keep an eye out for safety problems on site when you're interviewing
Read up on your industry's safety standards
Read your material SDS sheets
Walk if your employer tries to shame or pressure you out of OSHA compliance
Keep up to date on industry safety briefings and case/post incident studies
Seriously WALK if your employer is trying to shortcut safety
I know the safety compliance/osha man is the brunt of a lot of jokes in the trades, mostly because a lot of them have forgotten that their job is supposed to protect the worker rather than the profits, but in theory, they are there to protect YOU and YOUR life, cut the fucker some slack.
"It doesn't help your credibility to exaggerate, most employers wouldn't literally work you to death" like, I used to work in distribution. If booking a truck driver for back to back shifts until they fall asleep at the wheel, crash, and die counts as being worked to death, I have personally met employers who've worked employees to death and gotten away with a slap on the wrist. It may not be universal, but it's a hell of a lot more common than a lot of us would prefer to think.
There are very very few instances where the sex of an animal matters and in cats it doesn't matter unless you're breeding and occasionally if you're managing samesex or intersex aggression between cats, and if you invest in the relationship with your pets you're going to find that they're going to express affection and love in fairly obvious ways. Too many people aren't approaching their pets as individuals and don't pay attention to the cues of their animals. The breeding/temperament genetics and the individual relationship work you've done with an animal are what determine how, how much, and how often they're affectionate.
My adolescent male cat is very clingy but playful. He prefers offering and asking for play, sucking on fingers while not being pet, and following you around and playing hide and seek over settling in for a cuddle. My older adult female used to be the same way, now she prefers lounging on the porch bird watching while I read or a dry groom or curling up under the covers on cold nights. My male prefers to be at the other end of the bed on one of my sheepskins or his shark plushie. My male is a nibbler and barber my female gives kisses.
The reason I went for a male malinois as a working dog was because of him and his 2 sisters, he was the most handler sensitive and he was the best fit personality wise. His one sister was too laid back for what I wanted, shes thriving now as a diabetic alert dog, his other sister had more aggression than he did, and if I had been looking for a straight PPD or bite Sports dog, I honestly would have chosen her, but since I was looking for a dual purpose dog, I took him, and the more aggressive sister is now a suspect apprehension K9 in florida because of the 3 in his litter that just weren't quite right for bomb work (2 of the 5 that they imported were) one was better suited for strict service work with her soft mouth, one could have gone either way and been okay, or both and be truly fulfilled as long as he had his person, and the other was destined to either be destroyed or have a job where her desire to sink her teeth into something was an asset rather than a liability. His 2 sisters were also significantly more dominant with other dogs than he was, and since I was living with my ex at the time, I needed to think about how he would integrate into our existing 1 cat, 2 dog household.
This recent obsession with boys vs girls in dogs is such fucking BS, like... the only things that determine sex choice for me is how my current pet pack exists.
My female cat doesn't tolerate other female cats in her space, my male mal likes male dogs that are 10-15 lbs but feels pressured by males that are his size or larger, and gets along with females all around. So, realistically, I'll probably be adding a female dog next to the pack since, again, realistically, my older terrier male is in the worst health of my pets. I also may not be adding another dog to my pack for a while too, so that I have more travel flexibility.
The whole "boy cat" thing is so annoyingggggg your cats gender has nothing to do with how they feel about you i literally cannot imagine being so brain rotted by patriarchy that you somehow think your neutered male cat has special male love for you that female cats don't have the capacity for. Journaling prompts to find your identity when you're drowning in labels and subcultures
Let me be real with you. I'm a teenager, as I assume most of you reading this are (And if you're not, that's totally OK), and trying to find your identity often means trying on persona after persona, hoping that someday something will fit. Which, yes, it will, but I personally believe writing it out and exploring is so much more rewarding (and so much less embarrassing).
This is like writing a discord intro. Include your (Actual, chosen) name, gender identity, and so on, if you would like, but the most important part isn't that obvious.
How do I feel about my nationality? Am I proud of where I live? If I had to choose somewhere, anywhere to live, where would I choose?
What are my feelings towards my assigned gender? Where do I fall on the spectrum? Is my energy more masculine or feminine, or completely neutral?
What is my body image like? What do I like about the way I look, and what do I don't?
Do I actually feel like my bodily age? Younger, older?
Am I aligned with 'Human nature'? Do I enjoy being human, or would I rather be something else?
By taking these traits you were born with and evaluating, you start to get an idea of what you identify with, and what you don't. This is very important, but people often don't question things like this, as they seem a given (But end up unhappy with their view of themselves).
Divide your page into a left side and a right side. On the left, write down your real-life answers to these questions. On the right, write what your 100% ideal version of yourself would say. Then compare.
How do I feel about going to school / university / my job?
How do I wake up feeling in the morning?
How do I express myself? (Clothing, makeup, art, music)
What does my friendship circle / lack thereof look like?
How does my brain think people see me? Do I care?
What does my living space look like?
How do I treat myself? Is it fair?
What goes on daily inside my head?
What are my goals in life?
How do I react to failure / disappointment?
What is my main coping mechanism?
What is the strongest opinion I have about myself?
How do my hobbies / activities contribute to my life?
What is my biggest vice?
What am I proud of, relating to my identity?
If it doesn't match up at all, no worries. The most important step to creating an identity for yourself is knowing who you want to be. For a long time I had no idea, and ended up becoming someone I strongly disliked, which is counterintuitive and mentally draining.
Get yourself a blank piece of paper, and write down as many things as you can that interest you, describe you, or that you love. It doesn't have to be cohesive, follow a theme or anything like that, just words on a page. I'll do an example here:
Boba tea, meditation, blogging, Laufey, Cinnamoroll, studying, wonyoungism, skincare, medical dramas, Murakami, dusty pink, journaling, aquarium, cats, that girl/boy, Turkish delight, vanilla
As a highly visual person, I make collages from Pinterest all the time, and making one or a couple for yourself, or who you want to be, is a great exercise for identity and manifestation. Ideas for what to put on:
Photos related to your aesthetic
Indoor design that speaks to you
Photos of your hobbies
Items you would love to own, or already do
'Goals': photos of good grades, your desired appearance, money etc.
Fashion styles that you wear, or wish you could
Your future occupation
Photos conveying your mood lately
Media (Games, books, movies, shows) that you really enjoy
Your favourite album

stop buying from shein, temu, amazon, and using afterpay. (im not demonizing pay later. i utilize it all the time. I've just found a lot of people who do use these payment methods treat it like a 'buy now, pay NEVER' option and are surprised when it fucks them over)
remember this any time someone tries to tell you being eco friendly isn't affordable.
know what really isnt affordable? buying disposable products every week.
I have acquired my pets through 4 means, ranked by how often they happen:
1. Porch Finds: my late ferret I got from being dumped on my porch, and my eldest cat was a kitten that just kinda showed up on my porch
2. Foster Fails/Rescue Work: Pet came in through our Kitten Program or through the dog Rescue we provide care for at the clinic and they end up just coming home, my terrier and my youngest cat were acquired through this method
3. Reputable hobby breeders: 1-3 year wait list, 1 to 2 litters every year or two, I typically look for dogs that are coming from proven working lines with performance titles and solid conformation, I want to see the temperaments and sociability of the lines, and I want to see examples of the dogs produced and what they're doing in their work. I pretty much stick to this option with my PPD and Service prospects.
4. Wash Dogs and Private Rehoming: This is how I got my mal, he's a very nice imported, Netherlands bred Malinois with a Dutch Navy sire and a former police dam. He was imported for a DOD/Homeland security partnered bomb training program along with 4 of his littermates, however, he proved to be too handler focused bordering on Handler dependant for bomb and searching work. I worked with one of their trainers, and he knew I had to retire my prior cardiac alert dog and offered him to me for $1000. He's now a lovely dual purpose protection sports and cardiac alert dog, and yes, he is very handler focused, but that was matter of finding the right job for being handler focused rather than destroying a dog and wasting resources by forcing him into a role he wasn't suited for.
4.5 Importing dogs: Importing a proven dog or a prospect from a proven line is a better option for some breeds when you're looking to fill a specific job for a dog, and the breed has low availability or poor breeding in the United States, balanced working mals and GSDs are incredibly hard to find in the US, and most reputable working line breeders here are also importing dogs to supplement their lines and lower their inbreeding coefficient. If I hadn't come across my Mal as a wash dog, I was looking at taking a trip to Europe to source a quality Malinois. It is a mid 4 to low 5 figure investment for a young, untrained dog and higher for finished dogs. Typically, this route is pursued by organizations and serious sport and working handlers or preservation breeders it is not typical for pet owner sourcing.
I'd add one more to make this the perfect list: separate volunteering from one to evolve your mindset.

Finding a cause or local group in your area (not online) refuels your larger activism, offers networking opportunities with like-minded and morally aligned individuals, and fosters community engagement and your emotional investment in your community.
