This has come up a lot, and I may be a minor in this fandom but this needs to be said.

Rise Fans, stop comparing rise Apriltello to 2012 Apriltello. It’s not fair to the people who like the show or the pairing. And plus, there is really no point in trying to compare them anyway, it’s exactly like comparing rise and 2012 in general. Neither one of them is trying to be the like the other. They both are trying to be something different so that different people can enjoy each of them.

2012 was meant to be a more of a teen romance perspective, while rise is meant to be a more friendship brother and sister perspective. Neither one of them is the same, and they are both trying to accomplish different things.

Besides, I’m pretty sure rise isn’t even intending to get this versions april and Donnie together in the first place, its most likley just gonna be about their friendship brother sister bond. But hey, i could be wrong.

Besides, it’s pretty shitty that fans have to constantly put down another versions characters just to assure themselves that there’s is the better version. I’m not saying that all rise fans are like that, but there’s quite a few.

So rise fans, all I gotta say is this.

Be respectful to other versions at least. All of them are really good and all brought great and different things to the franchise we love. If you don’t like one of them, that’s fine. But don’t put it down just to make other people feel ashamed that they like that version.

And look. I know you might feel the need to defend rise, but this isn’t how you should do it.

The different types of reading:

Reading like a reader: You’re letting the story take you a sweep you away without worrying much about anything. You might have opinions–likes and dislikes. But for the most part, you’re just seeing where the story takes you.

Reading like a writer: You’re gutting each sentence, picking it apart and studying it. You look at what the writer does wrong and what they’ve done right and use both to help you improve. You’re actively trying to find flaws and strengths to avoid or borrow in your own writing.

When to read like a reader:

When you want to relax and enjoy a story.

When you’re reading with intent to give feedback to other readers. This means reviews for sites like Goodreads or Amazon. 

When to read like a writer:

When you’re looking to up your writing skills.

When you’re beta reading, critiquing, or giving feedback to the writer directly.

A lot of writers find it nearly impossible to read like a reader anymore, which isn’t a bad thing. You can still 100% relax into a story and enjoy it once you’ve built up that reading like a writer muscle. It does take more work than just reading, so if you’re just starting out you may find it hard at first. 

If you do read like a writer, you can of course still review a novel. However, you can’t expect all your critiques to fit into a review. Reading like a writer is very tailored frame of opinion in most cases, as it partly relates to your own writing style. A review is not the place to compare your writings. It’s a place for other readers to find out if they should give this book a chance. Complimenting/complaining about sentence structure is nitpicky and going to go over most readers heads–just say it wasn’t/was well written. 

Like most things, reading like a writer vs reader is a wide spectrum. Plenty of readers that are not in fact writers read like a writer–especially voracious readers because they have a whole career of reading behind them. They’ve learned how to weed out bad books.

Throughout the course of a book you can do both in varying degrees, but at times it can be good to consciously flex those muscles. Strain and relax them. Become a better writer without even writing ❤

Let’s talk about Donatello fricking Hamato for a second.

I can’t imagine how much flipping stress he’s gotta be under.

To his family, he’s their engineer, their plumber, their mathematician, their electrician, their inventor, their all-around-repairman, their fucking DOCTOR-

When does he sleep?!? I mean, we all joke and write about him not sleeping; but seriously, he’s not even eighteen yet, and he probably gets that many hours of sleep per week trying to deal with everything he has to. Let the guy rest! for! once!

If Donnie doesn’t have high-key anxiety, trying to fix or head off all these potentially deadly problems before they hurt his family, I will literally eat my fucking socks.

Most of the time, its only because of an invention he’s created, or a solution he’s made up on the fly, that he and his brothers survive to the next day. But then, half of those times, he doesn’t even get a thank you! Frequently, he’s ignored, pushed to the side, and has his rightful glory stolen by one of his brothers.

And yet, despite all that, he’s brilliant and creative and so damn hopeful. Donnie finds extra time around all his other responsibilities to create exciting and playful things, for himself and his brothers.

But because of the shit circumstances his family has, (and they do, they’re living in the sewers, and fighting a war with literal garbage as their weapons resource), he’s been forced to give up much of his light hearted inventing and sciencing, in favor of becoming a soldier and military geared engineer. All for his family, he creates incredible inventions from garbage; to defend them, heal them, and attack their enemies with.

Even before they started the war, Donnie probably didn’t get to really enjoy a carefree life.

He’s probably always been the guy who fixed everything, and everyone. The fridge broke? He’s got it. Water turning toxic? He can reroute a new source. Their stolen cable not working? Time to go monkey with the highly dangerous wires again. Someone got hurt during training? Someone is sick with an unidentified illness? He’s got his books, his computer, and what medicine he’s scrounged. He’s got you.

Best/worst part of all that? Its all self taught. He sure as hell didn’t learn how to build a fully operational vehicle-turned literal tank from his father, or learn how to treat their family’s unique physiology safely, and successfully, when they got sick or injured. That’s all him, purely and simply him.

Donnie is a genius, yes, but that is some other level shit right there. Learning and self-teaching himself years and years worth of college education, probably all from water-damaged text books that came from a garbage heap.

When the fuck did this kid get to be a kid, once his family figured out he could be the answer to everything?

Give Donnie credit, and a damn day off.

How do the boys react to finding out that their girlfriend knows how to pole dance, or offers to give them a lap dance?

Gonna answer this quickly so don’t expect a lot of detail, lol.

LEO would immediately demand to see what she can do, then would promptly go out of his way to get her some sexy, flashy clothing to match. You can bet this skill of hers will absolutely be used during intimacy cause Leo’s the kind of guy who likes to worship his s/o while he dominates her, and one way he does that is by displaying her skills and beauty and praising her for it.

RAPH would be all over her. Touching, grinding, biting; there will never be a such thing as a pole-dancing practice session that doesn’t end in sex. He’s good at following orders, of course, so he’ll sit on his hands if she said so, but the rest of the time he just can’t keep his hands off her. HOWEVER, Raph also wants his girl to be the best she can be, so he’ll also do what he can to help her along the way, and that means being a spotter, coach, and customer for her.

DONNIE would probably have a brain overload at first. Then, after actually seeing her dance/receiving one, he quickly becomes the biggest fan of this activity ever. He has more restraint than his brothers, though, so he keeps his hands to himself (usually) and just enjoys what she can do. If she gets him riled enough (which was probably the point) he might stop her mid-dance to pleasure her; otherwise, she can always expect something from this boy before the end of the night.

MIKEY would scream from joy, then sit at attention and excitedly wait for his treat, lol. He finds his gf so damn hot that just watching her dance is enough to drive him crazy, and a lap dance would end in creamed jeans, if ya get my drift. Mikey’s a good boy, though, and while he’d want to tackle his gf and have at it, he won’t unless given the a-okay. In the end, from this moment on he’s singing her praises (to the annoyance of his brothers) and is 100% her biggest fan.

An Apriltello Fantasy AU headcanon that nobody asked by yours truly, Sheilla (the writer & the artist).

One day, Donnie locked himself so suddenly (its been weeks), and the brothers think he might got sick or something, even Mikey luring him out of his room with food but his plan didn't work. April got worried sick and went to check on him, the door isn't locked.

Knightess April walking in into Donnie with his awesome tribunal glowing tattoo (ahem ^^) of course Donnie is freaking out, and blushing, feeling embarrassed, (cuz he is feeling so exposed especially in front of a human female) she is just standing there like "Oh...." and she just can't stop staring at him....she thinks he's beautiful with that :) She is trying to calm him down about it, no biggie. But, I had a feeling Donnie is hiding something else besides his tribunal glowing tattoo, he is just scared. What if Donnie's tribunal glowing skin was triggered by something? someone? Oh no....could it be April? o_0

(Guys, I did some searching about TMNT Tribunal Acolytes stuff and I've found out the turtles can freaking transform themselves into DRAGONS wtf, I am truly flabbergasted, I think its cool though!
