Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo was released to theaters in Japan on this day (11/17) ten years ago. How time flies…
so, you do you remember isora, if not, it's the demon that i like to call "sewer fish" because the two that come to mind where he appears (smt iii nocturne and dds: at) he always appear as the swarm of sting rays in the sewers in those game. i'm just saying that he's the most irrevelant demon in the franchise (that IS based on mythology) and his design is awful, it literally just forneus' original design.
Of course I remember Isora! His greatest role being "grinding fodder for Matador"!
Look at this art that's totally Isora and not Forneus! Isora's appeal is a major factor that paved the way for the Persona of today. Spread the word.
Happy 30th anniversary, Shin Megami Tensei!
Thank you for your wonderful games!

Warning: Long Post, Bragging about
For me, it’s tied with Valigarmanda (not Tritoch) and Ultima Weapon (not Atma Weapon, as much as it hurts me since i love DDS but i digress) both from FFVI
Valigarmanda is such a underappreciated Summon, Esper, Eidolon, whatever. i love this Quetzalcoalt-looking thing (i don’t know if would be a better feathered serpent design for quetzalcoalt than smt 1 quetz but that’s beside the point) despite how much important it is for FF6′s plots (being the first Esper you encounter not counting the half-esper herself, terra, which speaking of which, it also help her to unlock her esper form) it’s kinda of a shame that outside of it’s debut game, it barely appears, and most of it’s other “appearances” are just reference to it (which an antagonist from world of final fantasy being probably it’s most important non-ffvi “appearances”) i think it’s gimmick being a “tri-elemental” summon would atleast make it stand out for most other summons in the franchise.
Ultima Weapon is also very badass design and (thankfully) it does appear in more FF games (thought sometimes other i can be a pain trying to refer specifically to this thing since i usually refers to the weapon (both the FFVII and the literal definition of the word) of the same name. (also Battle to the Death slams)
honorable mentions, in not particular order:
The Weapons from FFVII
Odin
Behemoth
Typhon
Sprite Gilgamesh (yeah, i’m kinda weird)
Diabolos
The Four Fiends from FFI
The Four Archfiends from FFIV
Shinryu
Sefer Sephiroth
Alexander
Leviathan
Deathgazer
The Warring Triad
so what's your favorite Final Fantasy Monster? (whatever if is "myth accurate" or just looks cool)
Accuracy to myth is definitely not something that figures into my appraisal of FF designs. Anyway:
this was the most freak shit that a preadolescent soren ever saw. still unfuckwithable to this very day. god this shit is sick. fuck!!!
*designs kaneko has ever made
People always asks "what's your favorite demon design", but rarely character designs. In a series known for its "unique" character design (mostly Kaneko's). What's your top 10 SMT character designs, regardless of story? (doesn't have to be the protagonist)
I answered Aleph a number of weeks ago but to be honest? I might have to add that my favorites overall might be this ensemble.
Add Roland, Jimenez, and Zelenin, too.
Holy shit Kamen Rider Accel game
‘Kinetica’! A PlayStation 2 game where your body is the bike! The game actually came with a little art book too! This is the American cover artwork.
Happy 15th anniversary kingdom hearts!
Kingdom Hearts was released on the Playstation 2 in Japan 15 years ago today (3/28/2002)
do you know what is the magazine that the artwork "emerged" comes from? (related, i feel so robed that this design wasn't used for cherub, i mean, do really like SH Cherub, but imagined having this creature in your party)
This is credited in Digital Devil Apocalypse for a magazine called "M2 Discovery." Pretty difficult to find information about due to its fairly mundane name. Its covers all say "Discovery" in romaji but also render it in katakana as "ディスカヴァリー" precisely (as opposed to ディスカバリー, which is how it is misspelled in DDA). It styles itself as a "Mediamix Magazine" (メディアミックスマガジン); the "M2" probably refers to this.
I couldn't find the issue with Emerge but this interesting cover popped up after I found the right spelling:
An issue, volume 26, from November 1996 with SMT2 Michael featuring a "Devil's Compendium" feature that's continued from the previous month's issue. Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything else about the magazine.
I'm personally not that hot on Emerge's cherub as a demon design, but I feel it wasn't intended to be one. Kaneko with some greater artistic freedom going wild.
UPDATE: Added Discovery Jan. 1997 Volume 28 featuring Emerge on the cover, found by Vesk.

A while ago I did presentation clarifying misconceptions regarding Dedede's character, using nothing but canonical facts coming from the games and official tie-ins like info from japanese websites, I gave it an update, which is why I'm posting about it again, give it a look :)
