Been having thoughts about modern au 15(?) yr old lonely teen Mo Xuanyu who lives alone (and getting by via hush money from local asshole billionare Jin Guangshan) semi-accidentally summoning yllz wei wuxian via demotic ritual

(He didnt really think it would actually work, he was mostly just trying to cope)

one (1) yiling laozu wakes up in Mo Xuanyu’s shitty apartment and decides that if No-One Else Is Going To Parent This Child He Will (He is coping. Will he look at the Horror of waking up in a completely different world from your own with nothing left of your family but old fairytales? No. There Is A Child That Needs Planting!)

Cue the adventures or Wei Wuxian and the wonders of cutting Coupons, learning about facebook and attending Parent-Teacher confrences as Mo Xuanyu’s guardian

Found Family, all that jazz. Give Mo Xuanyu more hugs and Wei Wuxian more children. Throw him in a sea of toddles. (He is one of them. XianXian is three)

Over time mxy gets some actual friends (the juniors) and when they finally go over to mxy’s house wwx is there, casually talking with a ghost (The ghost is teaching wwx about late-stage capitalism. Wei wuxian agrees that a revolution is totally important but that he probably can’t create a talisman that incites systemic change, as that might veer into mind-control territory but that He Can Kill A Billionare)

Headcanon: Mo Xuanyu’s spice tolerance is actually about the same as Wei Wuxian’s (why else would he be able to eat his own food so easily in canon? Spice tolerance builds over time right???) So Wei Wuxian’s cooking doesn’t kill him actually. (They bond about it)

It does murder just about everyone else, though. Jingyi is offended on behalf of his tastebuds.

Eventually wwx meets lwj and the others (wen ning!!!! Baby wen ning!!!! I want to believe that he was able to move on someday because i would cry if he had to be alone as a corpse forever) (mayhaps??? Idk i havent thought that far) but anyway wangxian happens and so Mo Xuanyu gets two insufferable parents who care about him very much <3

I love this soo much. I saw it once and now it's ingrained in my brain. It is soo soothing to watch, this man is like, just so happy in this.

one mild sentiment i see echoed around alot is that despite everything, wei wuxian failed to “save” the wen remnants, that him going to such great lengths was an effort in vain. but... no?? he did accomplish alot by taking them to the burial mounds. he gave them time. he gave them a period of peace and community life. he gave their elders a sense of togetherness. he gave them a chance to heal some of their wounds together. he prevented their slow, agonising, brutal, INDIGNIFIED deaths at the labor camps, prevented their daily suffering under the oppressive guards.

as wen qing said: they all should have died a long time ago but wei wuxian’s efforts did bear sweet fruits, however bitter the end might have been.

and here’s the thing. the wens survived through wen yuan. their legacy still remains because all the remnants and wei wuxian (and ofc lan wangji) fought to see that happen. imagine if they hadn’t, if wei wuxian wouldn’t have done anything. the wens would have seen their demise in the labor camps with nary a mention of their deaths. they would have been wiped out without ever getting the chance to say their piece or take their stance. as things went, atleast wen qing and wen ning faced their deaths bravely, as leaders of their community. atleast, wen yuan could live a fulfilling life. atleast the wen remnants had a year and more together, to enjoy some of the peace the post-war cultivation world was enjoying.

and that is what wei wuxian gave up everything for. a cause greater than himself.

Wei Wuxian: Lan Wangji is just as if not more chaotic than I am you have to believe me. He’s constantly playing pranks and running into danger

Jiang Yanli: Oh please, brother, he’s the picture of solemnity and levelheadedness. He would never do things like that

Lan Wangji, who slept with his eyes open and seated on the bed the night before specifically to scare the shit out of Wei Wuxian because he knew he was coming home late: *stonefaced* It’s true I’m a saint

The Shen Yuan who took his little sister to and from belly dancing classes, and practiced with her just to supervise her (he, having fun with that? ... he will never admit it out loud) and who happens to hum some of those melodies, now transmigrated into the Shen Qingqiu who for some mission must take a temporary female form and introduce as a dancer at a event to catch the attention of a weird and bloodthirsty demon (with the obvious company and embarrassing supervision of his shidi Liu Qingge and some of his trustworthy disciples).

Yes, Shen Qingqiu is against that at first… But the other option was to use Ning Yingying! He will absolutely not put that little girl in potential danger! And of course Qi Qingqi would never wear one of those embarrassing outfits, and Qi Qingqi's choice of disciples was still to send young girls to potential risk.

Okay, at least Shen Qingqiu knows how to dance.

(And he dances very well, to the absolute internal chaos of the white lotus Luo Binghe, and the near qi deviation of Liu Qingge. Where the hell did Shen Qingqiu learn to dance like that!? That's what he did in brothels, dance classes!?)

I think part of the reason I’m so obsessed with MXTX’s works is the way that each story seems to hold you gently as say “Your kindness mattered. It didn’t alleviate the suffering, it did not undo the pain. But your kindness mattered.”

Kindness could not erase Luo Binghe’s abuse, but it changed the story into a kinder one.

Kindness did not stop Wei Wuxian’s death, but it did save a-Yuan.

Kindness did not undo Xie Lian’s suffering, but it renewed his sincerity to help others.

Kindness did not change the entire world, but it helped create a softer future.

Its such a nice message, that maybe kindness will not protect you, maybe you don’t see the outcome of it, but you should still try to be kind, and I love that honestly.
