Sea Level Rise

Sea Level Rise

Sea Level Rise

For thousands of years, sea level has remained relatively stable. But now, Earth’s seas are rising. Since the beginning of the 20th century, they have risen about eight inches, and more than two inches in the last 20 years alone!

Sea Level Rise

As water warms, it expands and takes up more space. That means that when oceans warm, the sea level rises. This summer, we’ve been researching exactly how global warming has impacted Greenland’s ice sheet. Our ICESat-2 mission will use a laser to measure the height of the planet’s surface. Over time, we will be able to provide a record of elevation change, and estimate how much water has melted into the ocean from land ice change.

So how much ice are we actually losing? Great question, but the answer might shock you. In Greenland alone, 303 gigatons of ice was lost in 2014!

Sea Level Rise

Since we know that ice is melting, we’re working to gain a better understanding of how much and how fast. We’re using everything from planes, probes and boats, to satellites and lasers to determine the impact of global warming on the Earth’s ice.

Nature’s Trust: A Legal, Political And Moral Frame For Global Warming

U.S. to promote 'universal access' to fossil fuels at climate talks
The United States hopes to promote wider use of fossil fuels at a global meeting on climate change next week, a White House official said, reflecting the gaping divide between Washington and the rest of the world on the issue of global warming.

Main Points

The industrial revolution is one of the main causes of global warming today. The emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is causing temperatures to rise. With this rise of temperature, glaciers and ice are melting causing the rise of sea levels. Due to this coral reefs and thousands of species are in danger.

What Can You Do

One of the easiest ways to help reduce global warming is to reduce, reuse and recycle.

-REDUCE: We can reduce the amount of waste that we use.

-REUSE: We can reuse plastic materials instead of throwing them away.

-RECYCLE: We can recycle plastic, glass, and paper.

Goal

The mission of this blog is to provide vital information and bring awareness on the subject of global warming. I believe that we need to promote a better environment through cleaner and better renewable resources. This will not only save thousands of species from going extinct but it will save our planet overall.

This article talks about how humans are contributing to the climate change crisis through human activity.
