“How do we account for the fact that many women view their relationships with their male partners as egalitarian? In fact, within intimate heterosexual relationships, both women and men generate the fantasy of the egalitarian relationship. Studies by Elizabeth Grauerholz (1987) help us to understand this phenomenon. Grauerholz asked “if men possess greater power than women, why is there a tendency for both men and women in heterosexual dating and marital relationships to report an equal distribution of power in their relationships?” She found that, for both sexes, perceived egalitarianism within the relationship increased as perceived likelihood of finding another partner who was as good or better than their present partner decreased! This finding suggests that, when people feel they lack relational alternatives, they improve their evaluations of their current relationship. As women’s perceptions of getting a partner who is any better decrease, women’s perceptions of being in an egalitarian relationship with a male partner are prone to distortion in the direction of misperceiving the relation as more egalitarian than it is.”

Dad of 'Non-Binary' Teen Who "Calmly" Killed Mom Blames Sex-Segregated Mental Health Units for Teen's, Ex's Deaths | Women Are Human
UK — Hambledon, England. A teen callously murdered his mother by strangling her to unconsciousness and stabbing her 118 times. He was found dead four days later in a secure mental health hospital. Now the teen’s father says the blame for the untimely deaths of his son and ex is on the shoulders of authorities who repeatedly placed the ‘nonbinary’ teen in sex-segregated mental health units.

17-year-old Rowan Thompson, a private school pupil who changed his name from Ben when he began identifying as genderless, visited his mother, 50-year-old speech therapist Joanna, for the weekend at her village home. The teen had recently gone to live with his father, Marc, a magician. Mother and son engaged in “stressful” conversations about his living arrangements. The teen decided his mother was “controlling and over-bearing.”  The following day, 1 July 2019, the mother and son went for a morning jog. When they returned home, the teen “felt strange,” and began strangling his mother. Joanna Thompson fell to the floor, and Rowan Thompson strangled her until she was rendered unconscious. “10 or 15 minutes later,” the teen returned to find his mother still breathing, and used a knife to stab her 64 times in the neck, 38 times in the forehead and 16 times in the arm.   At 12:45 PM, the teen called the emergency number and reported in what Coroner Jason Pegg would later describe as a “calm, unemotional and quite ordinary manner”: “I’ve just killed my mum. I need someone to arrest me as that’s what you do and an ambulance would be nice. I strangled her and I’ve been stabbing her with various knives and whatnot. My younger brother is at school, he’s due back later tonight. … She’s not breathing… bring a body-bag or whatever you do. I’m 99.9 per cent sure she’s not breathing.“

He “made sure” her breathing stopped, the teen told the operator, and “put the knives in the dishwasher just in case.” The arresting officer found the teen “extremely calm and composed” and “more concerned about his cat.”   Rowan Thompson was placed in a secure mental health facility. His trial was set for 7 October 2020. Four days before the date, he was found dead. Police said Rowan Thompson’s death is not suspicious. The inquest into the teen’s death is scheduled to take place next year. The youth had a history of suicide attempts and depressive bouts, and spent prior stints in mental health hospitals.

Marc Thompson insisted Rowan Thompson was “troubled,” but never aggressive, loved his mother and planned to become an architect. He said the system had failed Rowan Thompson by always placing the teen in single-sex units, despite the teen’s ‘genderless’ identity. He claims two psychiatrists thought the youth “mentally incapacitated.” Psychiatrist Dr John Sandford told the inquest into Joanna Thompson’s death that Rowan Thompson had minor autism, but he found no indication of “abnormal mental functioning.”   Sophie Rugge-Price described her sister Joanna Thompson as “shy, gentle and kind,” “always thinking about others” and “devoted to both her sons.” A girl with minor autism identified as nonbinary. If the father was told the kid was “mentally incapacitated” why didn’t he try to find a better facility?

50  witchy things to do in quarantine:

cleanse your house thoroughly

banish any unwanted energies

put some time into making solid wards

rearrange/cleanse your altar space and tools

take inventory of your supplies

make new batches of sun and moon waters (and any salts, tinctures, etc. you like to keep on hand)

start a dream journal now that you have the time

find a witchy article or book on somewhere like JSTOR and learn something new (and tell other witches about it)

try kitchen witchcraft if you haven’t already

create a new sigil or charm to display in your house

bless or add a glamor to an item in your home (ex. adding a glamour to a centerpiece so the food always looks good or to the welcome mat so people don’t notice the messes so much)

send a blessing to those who are helping (and donations, if you can)

or perhaps jinx, hex, curse, or bind those doing harm

set aside time each day to meditate– it’s the perfect time to start such a habit!

leave an offering to or commune with a spirit or deity you have not in a while due to time constraints

try a type of magic you are interested in, but struggle with

practice with your divination tools to get better at them

update your grimoire with things you’ve been meaning to write down

make a crystal grid of your own

make your own pendulum and board

make your own oracle deck

using the items you already have, make a new powder, oil, or tincture for an intent you have often

make a sigil and set it as your phone background

paint your phone case with a sigil, a symbol, or a color coordinated with your intention (use acrylic and then coat it in mod podge!)

create a new talisman

write a hymn or incantation

create a playlist to listen to during witchy things

buy a service from a local witch if you can afford to– many are in need of money right now, especially

draw, paint, or sculpt a deity you worship and add it to your altar

use notecards to write down and categorize things you have for each basic intention (ex. write down all of the herbs, crystals, etc. you have for love, for money, etc. so you never have to sit and think hard on what you can use– it’s a quick-reference for yourself)

write down your favorite spells or ones that you want to try

in your school or work space, add a sigil or charm for productivity, focus, or stress-relief

make a new sachet for sleep

contact a witch friend and facetime them to meditate together or do readings for each other. it’s important to stay in touch!

make shoebox, on-the-go, or pocket altars so when quarantine is over you’ll keep your practice up in daily life

write yourself affirmation cards or letters to open in a month/year/whenever you like

make your own runes

enchant a piece of clothing or jewelry for stress-relief or motivation

learn more about your own natal chart

transfer the info you look for in your grimoire most often to make a quick-reference book of the most important pages for yourself

learn about the plants and trees around your house and their properties

sit in your yard for a little while and enjoy nature and it’s sounds

open your curtains and blinds and windows to let in a little fresh air and sun into the house

start journaling– being in-tune with yourself will improve you as a witch

write letters or send care packages to witchy friends with things like bay leaves, sigils, and kind notes

on your next grocery run, grab some seeds or plants and plant whatever is in season where you are. try something that can grow in your windowsill, if you’re new! this is a way to have sustainable ingredients for your witchcraft that has no pesticides and is cultivated with your energy.

alternatively, get flower seeds and plant them around your home. this will also give you a reason to step outside to tend to them from time to time.

learn a new song or hymn and perform it as an offering to your deity of choice

make a list of this year’s dates of full and new moons, transits, and holidays and mark them in your calendar or put them in the notes of your phone

take the time to monitor your own energy and take care of yourself <3

One of my favorite parts of the Hunger Games was how, in the beginning, Katniss was jealous amd resentful of the townies for not having to work in the coal mines. Then, over time, she realizes they aren't the true enemy. Then she sees the other district kids as so much better off than she is, because at least they don't come from district 12. But then she realizes they aren't the enemy either. And then she hates the other victors, before realizing they have all been exploited just as much as she has. So the enemy must be the Capitol citizens, who benefit from the exploitation of the districts, right? Wrong again. They are just uninformed and pampered people who have been kept in the dark about the true horrors faced by the rest of the country. Most of them, when push comes to shove, are perfectly willing to help the war efforts.

And slowly, over the three books, all theses separate factions of downtrodden people start to see each other as allies instead of enemies, and that is what propells them to eventual victory over the true enemy, the government that tried to pit them against each other. Just fun, totally fictional things to think about that have nothing whatsoever to do with our current life.
