The Perfect Explanation of Privilege – In One Powerful Punchline
“The Pencilsword” is a comic strip by Toby Morris, an illustrator from New Zealand. His most recent comic, “On a Plate” hits hard at the heart of the issues of concerning wealth and privilege.
How many times have you heard the “I’ve never been handed anything on a platter” argument in regard to social security and other social benefits?
Toby wrecks this argument by showing how two children can grow up, be loved and supported, and yet still have two very different outcomes.
Make sure to follow all the way to the end for the powerful punchline. This comic is an increasingly sad reality for far too many of this nation’s children and families.

I have a little sideblog called sootheyourself that I started for my kid when they were away at college and struggling with their mental health. (Hence the strange in-jokey blog title and description.) It's a place where I reblog cute cat videos and relaxing art and sweet funny pictures for them, and for anyone else who wants to visit.
New posts show up there in fits and starts, although going forward I am hoping to put a lot more stuff there a lot more often now that *gestures at everything*
But you can stop by any time, and if you go in through the page at https://sootheyourself.tumblr.com/ there are links at the top to my tags for animal videos & pix, posts that are kinda funny, posts that offer support, and posts that are calming. There's even a link to get a random post that you can click as many times as you want. (There are over 1k posts in the archives.)
Copying this over from my IG. All @‘s are IG handles!
Hello:
I am Muhammad Shehab from Gaza🍉. I support a family of 6 people. My sick mother and father, my wife Hiyam, and my sons (Zain and Yahya). I have a gofundme campaign that I created to treat my mother and father, protect my family, and get them out of the danger of the war on Gaza🍉. We live in very difficult circumstances Help me we are still very far from the goal. I hope everyone will donate even a little. I am confident that you will stand with me and support me until I achieve my goal and save my family from the danger of war. Share my story. Pin my story to your page. Everything helps. Can you share some of my posts from time to time? Maybe the internet will be cut off in my area. Thank you
Hello everyone, I have an update to make.
Sarah's son Amir was born with a condition which makes it difficult for him to move. In order to treat this, he used to receive regular physical therapy, a special diet of ground food, and special medicine; however, since last October, he has been unable to access these necessities of his life.
This has caused his condition to deteriorate. Along with these horrors, he and his family suffers like every other Palestinian in Ghazza; in a dirty tent without basic human resources.
In order for Amir and his family to evacuate and for him to continue his treatment, they need to raise €35,000. Since my last post about this campaign, they've only managed to raise €1,961; an obvious improvement from their previous number of 0, but still not nearly enough.
Amir needs this treatment to live. Please donate if you can and share this campaign so he and his family can survive.

Daily reminder that this is how tfp optimus see the kids:
i've shared amal's gofundme (@amalashuor) several times, but i just received messages from her that broke my heart
amal is a 26 year old mother from gaza. she is an incredibly dedicated and loving mother to her year old daughter, maryam. before the war, she was studying to receive her masters degree in french language. on her instagram (@/amal_sufian97_) she shared beautiful photos of her life and family in the years before the war.
now amal, her husband, and maryam have been displaced several times and have nowhere to turn to. amal wishes to finish her degree, and both she and her husband want nothing more than a better life for their young daughter. every time i receive a message from amal, my heart is full knowing she is still alive, but it breaks for her suffering. i implore you, please donate any amount you're able to help amal and her family escape gaza. they deserve nothing less than safety, warmth, love, laughter, security, and life. as of july 6th, €1,025 / €30,000 has been raised. her campaign is also included on el-shab-hussein and nabulsi's spreadsheet of verified fundraiser (#175). if you're unable to donate, please share. i want nothing more than to give amal hope that she can provide a better life for her daughter.
