I love reading a long-ass one shot. I’m talking like 10k+ words and there’s no chapters. And it’s just so so compelling and you have to read it all right then even if you have something to do. And then you get to the end and it’s wrapped up all nice and neat but you want to exist in this world for just a bit longer. And you just kinda sit there like, “man, that was really good” and then you can’t fathom reading another fic for at least the next 24hrs.

I am frothing at the mouth to see the rest of this scene! It is so so fun to get to see Alastor and Charlie have what feels like their first real conversation. Also Alastor sort of letting his guard down? Just that moment of “you don’t know what I’m thinking or how I feel because I keep my guard up” was so so fun to see. Also he’s soooo about to tell her about Carmilla which I think is so interesting. Cause like, sure, it could just be to spice things up and see what Charlie does with this information. But it could also be because he wants to help her. Like a lot of what he says to her feels like his form of a peptalk, even if he is being an ass about it. I’ll be really curious to see how it all plays out when the episode drops.

Dragon 2 sketches!

Back in 2010 when the first movie came out, I was OBSESSED with their racehorse type of riding, the character design, the mechanics of the saddle, EVERYTHING. I wrote entire essays on livejournal including ‘studies’, and harassed the designer of the saddle for answers on deviantart.

I’ve always had an interest in character design and feature animation, but looking back, this movie really sparked something serious in me. Dreamworks studio seemed further away than the moon (still does) but for the first time I felt like looking in the kitchen and actually understanding what was going on. 

By then I was in the final stage of med school and didn’t entertain any serious ambitions towards design. But I remember the immense joy this movie and my new discoveries gave me, purely as a hobby.

Never in a million years would my clumsy younger self have guessed that by 2014 I’d be a full-time character designer in a city halfway across the world, sitting in a cinema in Vancouver to watch the sequel. 

In short: I owe a LOT to the people behind these films. Thank you.
