cody and jean's friendship is genuinely so important to me, because how often do you think cody ever meets someone who doesn't acknowledge their transness on first instinct? because as a trans person, i can guarantee not once in their life has anyone ever been so nonchalant about their pronouns, and then here comes this 6'3 sheltered french man who most definitely has them internally bracing for questions ("they? but you're only one person." "yeah, but what are you really?" "she— he— oops, i mean they. sorry, it's just so hard for me!") but then they meet jean and all it takes is hearing their teammates use they/them once for him to pick it up effortlessly. jean, who's been sheltered in a cult his entire life. jean, who's too afraid of his own sexuality to even look at jeremy for too long. jean, whose native language has little to no accommodations to be gender neutral. jean would be the first person they'd expect to be confused or hostile, and they probably wouldn't even fault him for it if he was. but he isn't. he treats cody like a human being first and doesn't ask a single question as to why he should.
and then there's the other side of the coin. jean is used to his eating disorder being a topic of discussion by this point, and his fixations with numbers and measurements being scrutinized rather than gently counteracted. cat helps by teaching him to cook, and jeremy and laila try too, but even then he's still surrounded by nutrition facts and labels and calculations to lose himself in. but then cody notices, and they keep noticing, and as subtly as possible they start to find tiny things jean enjoys to brighten up his day. they ask cat what fruits he likes and bring him peaches and buckets of strawberries, snacks without a label to lose himself in or visible numbers to panic over. and they don't force him to have them, but they're visibly elated and encouraging when he does, and when he actually enjoys them. jean doesn't make cody feel like a burden for something they can't control, so cody refuses to do the same. they just want to help, to make sure he eats, and to make sure he enjoys eating.
and fuck, dude, i can't stop thinking about them.
While not being able to find a decent match for himself
Like, c'mmon Kevin, Thea???????
listen
kevin day can be the queen of the court or whatever
he can be one of the best players in the game
but his TRUE talent is unintentionally matchmaking his queer friends
So in sports, it's possible for particularly skilled players to pull off unprecedented moves such that the entire sport's rulebook has to be updated to accommodate.
A player pulls some ridiculous move and everyone is in a flurry of "is this allowed?? Does this count?? Should we make this an illegal move??? Should it be a legal move??? What do we do about this, hurry before other players try to copy him!"
I'm aware of it happening once for basketball (though I don't recall the specific game changing event).
Anyway, Andrew Joseph Minyard is the first goalie to score a point for his team. Someone tries to score on him and he shoots that shit all the way into the other goalies zone and that shit lights up red. The game practically stops moving, the crowd is quiet for all of two heart beats before everyone fucking loses their shit. The stadium is shaking so hard might as well register as a small earthquake. Rulebook gets consulted expeditiously. Due to it not being referenced at all as a possibility, it's not technically an illegal move. Andrew's point stands.
They make that shit illegal thereafter, though. Making Andrew not only the first goalie to score a point across the field, but the last.
It puts him in the hall of fame.
It also gets him laid.
Yeah, I will definitely be joining that cliff jumping group, thanks
Andrew Minyard makes me wanna rip my heart out, seriously
girl who just remembered andrew was so used to not being cared about or seen that he genuinely thought he was hallucinating neil's behavior. who wants to join my jumping off a cliff party.
They make me sick
reyna and nico are so criminally underrated as a duo.
i just finished rereading BoO, and the significance their relationship has in that book as compared to the content (or lack thereof) of their relationship ive seen in media SHOCKED me.
i genuinely think reyna was a significant part of what helped him open up to people. with her powers, she could see all of his pain and struggles-- note, so much that the GODDESS OF MISERY said she couldn't do anything to trouble him more-- and stuck with him. she supported him, literally and figuratively, every time shadow travelling drained him, through all the bad and the ugly. she had nico hailed as a hero, by both camps that ostracized him, after the end of the battle with the monsters. she gave him--the boy who hates touch--a hug, and he had to fight himself not to break down in her arms.
even further than that, nico was there for her for all of the issues with the ghosts of her family-- something reyna has avoided and ran from ALL HER LIFE. with reyna winning the award for the most complex character with the least actual insight and focus on her character, that is MONUMENTAL
the fandom likes LEO AND CALYPSO's relationship but they underrate THEM?
he’d forgotten how much he missed that smile.
Neil is an unreliable narrator TO YOU. I believe him.
Ok I'm rereading the extra content and I think this part right here is very important
Andrew says him resisting Kevin is self-preservation and he is not gonna give what is left of him to Kevin to ruin.
Because see what Kevin's obsession with exy got him. A life of torture and a broken hand and being afraid to death of a mentally ill guy named Riko. So Andrew is just trying to protect himself from the same outcome.
But then Neil comes, and he is just as messed up as Kevin is (even more tbh), and Andrew sees first hand how exy is the motivation that makes Neil resist, how making bonds with the other foxes makes Neil look more alive, how having this thing with Andrew makes Neil want to live and not give up. And I think this is exactly why that at the end Andrew agrees to care about exy and give it a shot. Because it worked for Neil right? Maybe it'll also work for Andrew.
