this domestic chicken was born with polymelia, or extra limbs (in this case, two additional back feet). mutations are commonly documented in chickens; this may be because they are handled and observed more than wild birds, or due to poor genetics from overbreeding. while these chicks are not impossible to find, they unfortunately rarely survive to adulthood due to health complications.

the american woodcock is one of my favorite birds, if not my all time favorite! here's some fun facts about this silly bird:

- they have nearly 360 degrees of vision
- in some places, they are called the timberdoodle
