I'm An Old Trekkie, And I Just Don't Get All The Vitriol Aimed At The New Movies. I Saw The Original

I'm an old Trekkie, and I just don't get all the vitriol aimed at the new movies. I saw the original first episode in Sept, 1966 and just love the new movies. I was a total Leonard Nimoy/Spoke fan and now love, love the new cast- especially Chris Pine. He was born to play James T Kirk. Don't know why he gets such grief. What he said about burying the message- the cerebral bits within the action is right on point. Otherwise, how do explain the failure of The Finest a Hours in the wake of the mediocre Superman vs Batman and it's ilk. Infuriates me. Audiences have been numbed by all the comics and video game action. Action and noise are now how movies are measured. And the Star Trek universe was filled with shot-um-ups and the Enterprise being damage and destroyed [twice]. So called fans seem to have very short memories, maybe from all the noise of action films. There were deep moral discussions in Into Darkness, but guess they didn't want to recognize them.

pine-farr replied to your post “George takei needs to be quiet sometimes”

gtakei just fanning the hardcore antijj trekkies madness at this point. i had this epiphany last night through reading some of these people’s comments. they constantly insist trek should only be cerebral, and damn the rest of fans who wouldn’t care, cause the hardcore trekkies WOULD. and it hit me, they don’t WANT trek to be mainstream. they want it to be their private little club. its hipsterism at its very worst.

old school trekkies are legit the worst. they want trek to be like how they remember from either tos or tng and refuse to move forward. they hate abrams verse and anything new and will probably hate the new show too. the new tv series can be the best thing ever and they will still probably hate it if it has one too many explosions or cgi because those arent authentic to the ‘real’ (what does that even mean??) star trek. and takei is just bitter for some reason idek. i just lost respect for him because 90% of his followers are just like him and hate anything new. and takei can hate all he wants, i dont care, but dont fucking diss the franchise that gave you fame less than a month before the new movie comes out and a week after the cast went through a horrible trajedy cause you want some clicks and thumbs ups. fuck him.

Very excited, but upset that there's such an uproar about the 1st trailer. It's just a minute and 25 seconds and totally out of context, as these usually are. I think it's just the beginning, so just everyone calm down

The NRA is a blight on this earth. Period!

Three quick ways to help the Las Vegas shooting victims
More than 400 people are wounded after a late-night shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.

If waking up Monday to news of the worst mass shooting in U.S. history left you feeling angry or devastated, there’s a solution: take action.

1. Donate Blood

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement saying that residents should donate blood to the more than 400 people wounded when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire from his hotel room late Sunday.

Specifically, United Blood Services is set to start taking donations at 7 a.m. local time at 6930 West Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas or 601 Whitney Ranch Drive in Henderson. The University Medical Center of Southern Nevada is also preparing to launch a blood drive Monday at the Delta Point Building, though the exact time of that event has not yet been announced.

There are also prescheduled American Red Cross blood drives taking place at the SpringHill Suites Las Vegas Convention Center at 2989 Paradise Road and Ernest May Elementary School at 6350 West Washburn Road.

2. Donate Money

Not in the area? Consider giving money to the Southern Nevada chapter of the American Red Cross, which accepts donations on its website, by phone at 702-369-3674 or via mail at 1771 East Flamingo Road, #206B, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89119.

You can also support the National Compassion Fund, which directly distributes donations from the public to victims of a mass crime. The fund has previously partnered up with the relatives of victims of disasters like 9/11 and the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and vows to be transparent in how it handles the money it collects.

3. Call Your Representatives

After you’ve written a check, make your voice heard politically, as well. Call your representative and talk to him or her about gun laws both in your state and nationwide. The House of Representatives’ switchboard number is (202) 224-3121.

In Nevada, for example, gun owners don’t have to have licenses and can open carry their firearms without a permit. Nationally, the House of Representatives is weighing legislation that would ease up on rules concerning gun silencers, which law enforcement officers argue could make it harder to identify the suspect during mass shootings.

If you want to change that, find the phone number for your representatives and senators here and let them know what you think. Your actions may ultimately do more to help victims of future attacks than lawmakers’ tweeted thoughts and prayers.

If you believe gun laws are too lax, get in touch with groups like Everytown for Gun Safety and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

The National Rifle Association advocates for fewer gun restrictions.

Everyone seems to not like the full, full beard, but I think he has to keep it for the movie he's currently shooting.

This shot of Chris Pine is amazing. Beautiful profile, yes, but shows him as Kirk completely owning that chair!
