Ava was playing a game of chicken, chicken, duck with her brothers and sisters since it was a nice day and their mother had wanted the little ones to go have some fun for awhile. Ginger was busy for the past few days and couldn't spend time with them. Rocky had gone on a supply run with Bunty and Agnes for almost two weeks since the sanctuary was running low on a few things

It was Lillian's turn and she was making her way around the outside of the circle when Ava caught a glimpse of her father walking up the hillside near where the sign of the sanctuary was

"Duck!" Lillian shouts as she tapped the ginger chick on top of her head, running away to avoid being tagged

Ava had no interest in the game anymore and quickly scrambled to her feet, taking off like a shot in the direction of her father

"Daddy!" She chirps

Rocky's caring brown eyes lit up when he saw his little girl and scooped up the chick into his wings after putting down some moss, embracing her

"My little Avy Wavy. How's my princess doing today?" He smiles down at her

"Better now that you're back." Ava giggles at her nickname

Rocky chuckled softly at the chick and pressed his beak to her forehead for a kiss before putting her down and picking up the moss, walking away to drop off the supplies

The Rhode Island Red had started to walk to his hut after finishing the task when he looked down upon hearing small footsteps beside him, Ava being his little shadow and following the rooster

"Why don't you go play with the others?" He asked

"But I want to be with you." Ava said

Rocky sighs softly as he rubbed the back of his neck. It was certainly difficult for him to turn down his daughter for he couldn't stand to break her little heart

"Oh alright."

"Yay!!!" Ava cheers

"Daddy needs a nap though before we can do anything else." Rocky said

"Ok, I'm a little worn out anyway." Ava reaches up to hold her father's wing or at least a finger or two

Ginger had walked into the hut to grab her binoculars when she saw Rocky asleep in their nest with Ava on his chest, his wings draped over her protectively. It was absolutely adorable

She quietly approached the two sleepyheads and pulled a blanket over them, taking a moment to admire this sight. The hen then leaned down to give them both a soft kiss on the forehead before leaving the hut

Ava would always be Rocky's precious little girl for years to come
