I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who thought about the parallelisms of the oh-so untouched dynamics of Ford and Mabel, and Stan and Dipper, but humor me.
In a previous post, I mentioned Mabel is a mini-Ford in Stan’s font and Dipper being a Stan Jr. in Ford’s flair so here’s my take.
Mabel is just like Ford because, other than being the sweater-loving older twin that would always add something to in their diary/scrapbook, her mind is the only other stand-out to the Bill Cipher other than Ford's. He took genuine interest to her mindscape.
As for Dipper, he's so much like Stan. No book? Left hook!
Both Dipper and Mabel mirror the different aspects of Ford's mind and Stan's heart. Let's start with the obvious:
Dipper has Ford's academic mind and craving for problem-solving adventure.
While Mabel has Stan's emotional capacity to know what to do to the things left unsaid.
And now for the other way around:
Mabel has Ford's mental fortitude to face the unknown with the optimistic belief that they'll survive it all just so that they can record it on paper.
And Dipper has Stan's immovable tenacity to protect the family he loves so dearly, no matter how dangerous or afraid he is. For them, he'll do it all.
I just love them so much how can I be normal about it.
So I have an abandoned WIP that I wrote roughly 17 thousand words for and I was looking in my notes doc for it the other day and found some . . . funny(?) stuff I thought I'd share. You'll probably know why it's abandoned if you make it to the end of this post.
So I pre-write my tags and notes. The notes I write during or after relevant chapters. So here are most of the non-relationship tags:
Graphic Depictions of Violence, F/M, Teen And Up Audiences, Hurt/Comfort, Angst with a Happy Ending, Whump, Heavily Implied Romance*, Torture, this got way darker than I was anticipating, No One Is Okay, And That Includes The Author, Preston and Priscilla Northwest's a+ parenting, Probably Medical Inaccuracies, I Tried Okay, the graphic violence warning only applies to a couple of chapters.
*The heavily implied romance tag was for Stan/Lazy Susan and Pacifica/Dipper
Here's the first note: Hi there! This is the story that’s been distracting me from my main one, Mindscaperers.* It’s a little different and I’d like to state right off the bat that <b>this story gets fairly dark and I will NOT be giving warnings for individual chapters, so MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE TAGS. </b> ** On a brighter note, this story is fully finished so you won’t have to randomly wait several weeks for the next chapter.*** I’ll try to post roughly two a week until I’m done. This is going to become a series, but this is the main plot. The other stories will probably be about side characters as well as the consequences of this first story.
*it was not the only thing distracting me from Mindscaperers. I was also reading a lot of fanfiction for fandoms I'm not even in.
**I said something similar in my recent Infinity Train story, We Only Broke The Train A Little Bit (More Than You).
***Past Me wishes. I ended up with like . . . five or six chapters. Maybe seven?
My notes get better - or worse, depending on how you look at it.
The end notes for chapter three are as follows:
me: shipping is weird
My brain: pff imply stuff so hard
Me: but they’re kids
My brain: pfffffff
Me: I can’t write Stan.
My brain: make him a major character
Me: no violence
Also me: let’s write the most descriptive violence I’ve ever written–WAIT NO THAT HASN’T HAPPENED YET
Let’s write a cute lighthearted story–AHHHHHHHHH never mind
And the penultimate and also best/worst note from the end of chapter four: Yes, they’re coping with being tortured by flirting with each other. Don’t judge me–them. Don’t judge them.
. . . and now we know why I abandoned this story.
But there's on more note! At the end of Chapter 5, I wrote about the fairy family I included in my story. (I'm going to write these fairies into a different story because I love them so much. But not this story.)
Here's the note: Zaelynn is the firstborn and Annabel is the 870th child. Also, sistren is an actual word.*
Pretty sure it's basically "brethren" but specifically for girls.
So yeah. That was . . . I'm honestly concerned about the me of 6-7 months ago.
“You would think a practitioner of the Shadow Arts would be a bit more subtle,” Lukas said pointedly as they all filed in.
“As a master of the Shadow Arts,” Ivor corrected, “There are times where it is appropriate to be subtle and times where it is not.”
“Did the old man tell you that before or after he made you scrub the floor for the hundredth time?” Lukas retorted, feeling a smirk twist his lips as his old friend scoffed.
“After,” Ivor said with great dignity.

rest assured I am still working on The Razor's Edge, i just had to work out a few kinks in the plot and ended up having to rewrite most of chapter three LMAO it'll be up soon!
Potentially a hot take but I think Dipper might be the most emotionally intelligent out of both sets of Pines twins, but in a very specific way.
Ford really isn't overly concerned about people's feelings; it's just not something he really tends to think about or prioritize. And when he does think about it, he tends to only view people's emotions based on how he would feel about the situation.
Stan is skilled in knowing how to handle people and quickly grasping their intentions. He's a con man that understands crowd mentality and how to play it. Overall, he just knows what people tend to want to hear and gives it to them, so quick with a lie. And because of this, he's wary of when people tell him what he wants to hear. He's a con man that recognizes a con, and knows a person's intentions and desires are important so he looks for them. But he doesn't really know how to interact and connect with people genuinely and openly. He wants to have genuine connections, specifically with his family, but for all of his life he's either delt with people that didn't care for him and made it obvious (his father), people who didn't seem as invested in having a relationship with one another as he did (Ford), or people he's had to constantly lie to and thrown on a persona to survive (his years being homeless and being Mr. Mystery). Because of this, genuine feelings and connections are difficult for him to navigate and articulate, or even really understand.
Mabel, out of all of them, definitely cares the most about other people's feelings. She spends time thinking about others feelings long after the fact, considers them carefully, with the end goal of everyone being happy. But she can get so caught up in what she thought would make everyone happy, that it can be difficult for her to take a step back and look at if what she's trying to do is really the right thing for people.
But Dipper is the one that tends to just, like, quickly grasp the heart of an emotional situation and just points it out. And, unlike Mabel, he doesn't really prioritizes everyone being happy, so when he points it out he tends to be very blunt about it. He also, surprisingly, is the first to take a step back and look at a situation, and what the right thing to do is, even if it's not what he wants, something Mabel and Ford have difficulties with. He also doesn't get upset if he's the one in the wrong, able to admit it easily once he realizes it and immediately has a desire to amend what he did wrong. However, he too has a blind spot, as does everyone. This blind spot being his paranoia; if he doesn't fully know about the situation, the conclusion he'll end up at will always be the worst one (stan portal situation). Dipper very rarely takes previous loyalties into consideration when trying to figure out what's going on; if it's someone he knows and loves he'll try to find out proof that go against his suspicions, but if he doesn't immediately find any he'll jump to an answer that speaks to his paranoia (opposite from Mabel, who is predisposed to firmly see the best in others even if there is evidence proving otherwise).
Posting on AO3 is like, I'm doing this for myself, but also immediately refreshing the page every 5 seconds to see if you get any hits comments or kudos. But totally only writing for me.
Oh dear
Ohhhhh dear
GF/Avatar crossover where maybe there’s another portal or something, and Dipper and Mabel get taken in by Iroh while Zuko gets taken in by Stan
Iroh: helps Dipper handle his anxiety, teaches him and Mabel meditation techniques and tea, patiently indulges Mabel when she wants to put flowered braids in his hair
Stan: ABSOLUTE CHAOS, totally cool with Zuko stealing stuff, tricks him into turning himself into an attraction with his fire bending, probably teaches him some boxing techniques to become even more dangerous
It's so funny when morons use "The Deep End" and "Time Traveller's Pig" as evidence for Mabel being selfish, when those are in fact episodes where DIPPER was being the selfish one lmfao.
Saving a stranded kid and reuniting him with his family >>>>> pool time with a girl you have ZERO chance with, whom you already see every other fucking day at the Shack anyway.
Saving a pig from being eaten and adopting it >>>>> sabotaging a girl's chosen relationship and removing her choice because YOU want to have her even though you have ZERO chance with her.
If you have ever used those episodes to bash Mabel instead of Dipper, you might actually be braindead.
"B-but what about Mabel causing Weirdmageddon"
What about Dipper losing all the candy they collected because of his one-sided crush and almost getting everyone killed by the Summerween Trickster? What about Dipper summoning zombies, almost getting Soos and the two agents killed, and showing zero remorse for the latter two when he thought they were dead? What about Dipper kidnapping a random monster and exposing two innocent people to it, causing insanity and hospitalization? At least Mabel was confirmed by Alex Hirsch to have been under a trance in Mabelland. What's Dipper's excuse? He's 12? So is Mabel.
When you want to read fanfiction but you know none will match the chaos you just read
I feel like Ivor would be the type of person who is enjoying Cat café. He and Lukas would both go there when they want to chat.

I made this for the trend that passed this weekend! I really just love the silly long choo choo show alright? And I think I’m finally sticking with an artstyle? I’m gonna go insane about it!! Get ready 😈
