In the quiet of the night, with the moonlight shining through their window, a lead weight that Caitlyn had done her best to ignore since long before they left Piltover sat heavily in her chest as she thought back to what Ambessa said about the challenges they would face when they returned home. “Are you still in this fight, Violet?” Caitlyn whispered, unable to stop the way her hand gripped Vi’s almost too hard. Vi pulled her hand up and kissed it. “For every step you’ll have me,” she whispered sleepily. The weight in Caitlyn’s chest didn’t completely abate, but it did so enough that it allowed her to fall into a deep sleep.

IT'S FINALLY HERE!! Thank you for being so patient everyone!

Writing tip to myself: try to sleep on a finished chapter before posting if it's late. I almost posted one at 2 am last night (which I have before and been happy with) but something didn't feel right and so I just slept on it. Looking at it now, I love what I wrote, but the "off" feeling was it's not placed in the right spot in the story. I'll use it later, but now I'll have to change up the chapter contents a little, which I'm already loving where it's going instead of what was going to happen. I think you guys will like it :D and what I will use later, as well.

I've said before that I've been making up my fics as I go, as I have found out that I am more of a discovery writer than I am an outline writer. So this entire time for "Low Lays the Devil in Me," I've had no idea how the conflict will come to a climax.

Oh, oh, oh booooooy. I've thought of it and I am soooooo excited!!! I also think I know what the last scene will be. Don't worry, we still have quite a bit of plot left. I think we're over the halfway mark plot wise, but I'm just stoked!

Cassandra, ever observant, furrowed her brow. “Caitlyn, is something wro—" “Can we talk?” Caitlyn blurted out, rudely interrupting her matriarch. She flushed at her inability to control her mouth and forced herself to speak more calmly. “When I get back, I mean?” Cassandra, who had been surprised by Caitlyn’s outburst, blinked in confusion. “Talk?” she parroted. Caitlyn nodded, the lump in her throat made it difficult to form words around. Her mother must have seen something—something different—in her eyes as Caitlyn noticed she had stopped breathing. “Of course, Caity. Whenever you’re free, I’ll be here.”

OH! Just saw that "Low Lays the Devil in Me" has just reached over 100,000 words with the newest chapter. Which means this CaitVi series is now almost 300,000 words long. We still have quite a ways to go in this fic, but I do believe we're now on the other half of half way done plot wise. Hard to tell when I'm making it up as I go along, but holy shit these are long fics. Haha. Definitely could see this series being 350,000 words total before I'm finished.

I've wanted to do this for a while, but now that the fic is almost done, I don't think I'll have to add anything to it. For anyone caught up, none of this is spoiler-y if you do read it. I explain the purpose of the list in the screenshot. This is now placed in the Chapter One notes with the link to the map. If you haven't read/aren't caught up, the spoilers are not really that bad, but avoid if you like going in completely blind. I just know that some people might appreciate knowing this before reading to help understand it better.

“I must say, Cassandra, I had my doubts when you brought Violet along, but she has proven incredibly effective,” Grayson stated the Monday after the Kiramman Gala. “And Caitlyn seems to be quite…taken with her.” “I wasn’t aware you were so interested in the love lives of two teenagers,” Cassandra teased her friend. “These are no mere teenagers,” Grayson reminded them. “It’s a starcrossed romance for the ages, if they don’t break each other’s hearts.”  “I fear that discouraging Caitlyn’s pursuit of Violet would only make her want to do it more. She has never once listened to me regarding my opinion on the girls she dates,” Cassandra confessed. “I will say, I think this is different. Caitlyn seems to be more serious about this one. Perhaps it is the fact that Violet is so different from anyone Caitlyn knows, but…”

Vi learns what Cassandra has been up to for the last seven years.

Caitlyn didn’t notice, was unbothered, or ignored Vi tensing at their proximity. “When is Powder and Ekko’s match?” Vi swallowed and looked straight ahead as she used the match as a reason to not look at Caitlyn. “I’m, uh—I’m not sure,” she replied. “They are the reigning champions so they may be the last ones to play.” Caitlyn hummed and went back to watching robots rip each other to shreds. Vi sat and tried her best to not breathe through her nose. Or notice every time Caitlyn shifted to clap, cheer, or laugh and brush their shoulders together. But Vi couldn’t help but allow herself to indulge a look (just one look, she told herself) when Caitlyn turned to the woman next to her, who was the aunt of one of the kids in the match, to strike up a conversation.
