I'm going to try to get the next chapter of Low Lays the Devil in Me out before Saturday afternoon (US time), but no promises. I have some plans this weekend and I also work, so there's a chance our reunion chapter won't be out until sometime Monday. I'm going to try to not make you wait that long, but I also am not going to rush such an important chapter! It'll be worth the wait, I promise, if that's how it shakes out.
Not going to lie, I kinda hate what I’ve written for this next chapter. I might scrap a good portion of it, which is annoying cuz it’s over 3000 words long so far. Part of the problem is that it’s meant to set up the end game portion of the fic, so it just feels like I’m talking at the reader. Gotta figure out how to not do that and get what I want done because what I have is super boring 😅
Warning for some spoilers for the fic, but holy shit these are amazing! Every single one is so accurate lolol
@caitlynkirammansrifle
Enjoy the chaos which is my mind after reading a fic I enjoy 😂
If you haven't yet, check it out!
I am really loving the writing challenge this CaitVi Pirate AU is presenting, but at the same time, I feel like it’s the most coherent I’ve felt my writing has been since I got back into 6 months ago. It’s a bit more emotionally charged than I was anticipating, but not in a bad way. I’m almost done with chapter 4, which will be up tonight, and then I’ll write a chapter of “Tethered.
Literally cannot escape Arcane, not even where I work is safe 🤣
Sigh. Reminder to myself: I love writing and writing is fun. Lol. I am on my third rewrite of the first few thousand words of the next chapter of Low Lays the Devil in Me. I will probably expand more on it in the endnotes when I publish the chapter but man, it's annoying to do rewrites.
"I apologize, Miss Fortune. You must understand that—" "Strike two." Grayson turned to Vi, whose cavalier expression had turned dark so fast, Caitlyn had blinked and missed the change. "Excuse me?" Grayson asked with narrowed eyes. Vi leaned forward with a glare that could cut glass. "Pulling iron on us was strike one. Strike two was not paying the proper respect to the Queen of Bilgewater." Caitlyn scoffed. "Bilgewater is not recognized as a sovereign state by any official government on Runeterra. The seagulls have more of a claim to the land than you do," she spat.

Caitlyn, Grayson, Vi, and Sarah parley to discuss what they know about the missing crew of ships all over Runeterra. The Piltovans have an unexpected proposal.
So, I said in the last chapter notes that this next one might take me a while because it's going to be beefy. I'm 6000 words in and I don't even think I'm halfway 😭😬🤣 thank god I'm a fast typer lol
"A good captain would sit back and let their crew bask in the limelight of fighting such a ferocious beast. You're sitting here by yourself, letting them brag to the whole bar, without joining in," Caitlyn explained. "Perhaps I just enjoy my alone time." "They have rooms here for that, yet you sit here alone despite being surrounded by people," she replied easily. Vi's smirk turned into a charming grin, and she pulled the chair she had her arm on out from under the table. "Maybe I was just waiting for the right person to join me," she stated. Caitlyn ducked her head in a coquettish manner before she sat next to the pirate, who did not remove her arm from behind Caitlyn's chair. This is good, but don't get cocky, she warned herself before she spoke again. "So, fact or fiction: did you really fight off a sea scarab in the middle of a storm?"

Three years ago, as a new and hungry bounty hunter, Caitlyn set her sights on the infamous pirate Captain Vi "Stone Fist" to make a name for herself, marking the beginning of a long, bitter rivalry between the two women.
The way I am enjoying writing this next chapter in "Low Lays the Devil in Me" about the Chembarons is almost worrisome. This is almost as much fun to write as Vi's extraction chapter.
If anyone is wondering, a great album to listen to while reading "Low Lays the Devil in Me" is the official soundtrack to "Candela Obscura" by Colm R. McGuinness. It's definitely good for a more seedy underbelly in a steam punk Victorian era setting, which is perfect for this fic's grittier scenes. Plus it's just dope as hell. I've listened to it on repeat when writing Caitlyn working as "Officer Kiramman."
