I’m not sure exactly how to articulate it but—there is this bizarre base assumption i see from people discoursing about children’s media, and that’s the assumption that children are somehow unfamiliar with negative emotions. Like, maybe you’ve managed to completely forget your entire life before you turned eighteen, but kids spend a lot of time being hurt, and scared, and angry. A lot of people had terrible fucking childhoods, and a lot of kids are having terrible fucking childhoods right now. When i was a child, and i read books where bad things happened to kids, that was in no way shocking to me, i already knew bad things happened to children. It made me feel more connected to those stories, not less, and it made it more impactful when those child characters overcame it all in the end. That’s important for children. A lot of them are in desperate need of a little hope, and they aren’t going to get it from nothing stories with no conflict. They put conflict in children’s media for a reason
Also i see some of you handwringing over child protagonists going through, like, the most basic hero’s journey. Please, for the love of god, realize that you as an adult are going to understand children’s media differently than the actual kids it’s intended for. Because you’re all grown up now, you aren’t going to be able to relate to a child protagonist. You’re going to see a child in danger. The children the story is meant for are going to see a kid like them who is able to face hardship and triumph
First trailer for Dreamworks' ‘THE WILD ROBOT' and HOLY FUCK ITS GORGEOUS???????
Bonus:
Some dialogues are directly from discord server (especially Bonus Page 5). It's too funny to let it stays in the server so I decided to share with you all. I hope y'all enjoy! Thank you for reading!
miles “who’s morales” morales’s biggest weakness is the cover story
thought about this again. kind of amazing how we’re all just chasing ways to duplicate how this scene makes us feel, either in life or in art.
This fucking hurts??
Little Ani hiding behind Master Obi-Wan after causing chaos somewhere in the Temple
Based on this tweet thread it gave me a serious case of rotten teeth from all the cuteness
Look. This is so fucking funny. Okay? Okay.
The original trio has already seen so many horrors.
No matter how much Obi-Wan complains, Anakin would insist on telling his kids Obi-Wan is their grandpa.
Look look one of the best fics I've read was under 10k and you say that's not valid? One of the most hardhitting has been under 2k and that's not valid???
Man, what the fuck, that's just sad. For you. I'm gonna keep reading these short ones cos I have the attention span of a toddler. Okay? Okay.
Fanfic tiktok is wild... I see so many people saying shit like "I could never read anything below 60k!!", or "What story can you even tell in under 5k words?" or "A oneshot below 10k isn't even a story!" or "I always filter completed fics by 100k< only!"
And I'm like...
A) which fandoms are you reading fics for where you have this kind of offerings on the regular?
B) have you heard of short stories? If you truly think every story NEEDS to be longform to connect with people, I sincerely feel sorry for you.
C) Average novel length is between 50k to 100k. I'm sorry, but CONSISTENTLY demanding fic writers to push out fics of that length is insane. Just think about it: YOU DEMAND AUTHORS TO PUT OUT FICS THAT COMPARE TO COMMERCIAL NOVELS IN LENGTH (AND QUALITY) AS A BASELINE.
Yall are wilding.
For the fic title game! How to Mourn a Child You Never Knew
Alright so Tim dies (sad) but he comes back (yay!) and he's...different. Bruce sees it. Alfred sees it. Jason sees it. Nobody else does.
And the thing is, they think it's obvious. Tim shies away from them, only engages in banter when he must, and he doesn't smile. The public has even started to notice.
"He's always been sad, B," Dick says, "he's just usually better at hiding it. He's grieving himself. Let him heal."
Anyway shit happens and they find out he does smile, and he does joke, and he does play pranks and cause problems. Just. Not with them.
"It's like you guys were demoted to coworker status," Babs says, grinning, "he reevaluated your position in his life and decided to take a few steps back. God, this is hilarious."
Damian pats Bruce on the shoulder, both condescending and comforting. "He'll come around."
Tim, btw, doesn't mean any harm whatsoever. He's just a weirdo. He'll "promote" them to family status—family-adjacent, at least—soon, he's just prioritizing the relationships he values the most right now. Death does that to a guy. He's working down the list of people he cares about so he'll get to them! Just not now. And they probably won't care, from his reasoning, it's Bruce, Alfred and Jason. They're used to him being distant. They'll get he's just figuring shit out.
Cue angst with Bruce and Alfred reflecting on their relationship with him and doubting it, then revisiting their mourning because they didn't even "know" him etc etc. Jason trying valiantly not to care and failing horribly. What right does he have to mourn a child he never knew?
Meanwhile Tim, his friends, and all other family members are doing adrenalie junkie shit because Tim needs to feel alive again. He eventually circles around to them and is shocked by their angst. Like damn bitch, you really love me that much?
