Numerous patriotic quotes are circulating on social media in the aftermath of the horrific attack on the US Capitol. Following the sage wisdom of my brilliant and inspiring AP US History teacher Terry Pollack, I sought primary sources to verify and provide context to these statements attributed to Teddy Roosevelt.
Source: President Teddy Roosevelt, Lincoln and Free Speech, Metropolitan Magazine, May 1918 (v.47 no.6), From the HathiTrust Digital Library, essay here.

Our nation’s history is one of protest, fighting for rights, and continually striving to form a “more perfect union.” Two of our current exhibits, Records of Rights, and Rightfully Hers: American Women and the Vote, highlight records documenting historic struggles. However, such challenges to and questioning of the government, especially of the President, are often seen as unpatriotic or even treasonous. As the highlighted quotes above show, Teddy Roosevelt responded strongly to such accusations.
Teddy Roosevelt stated that far from being unpatriotic, it is one’s patriotic duty to oppose a president whose policies put Americans in harm’s way. At the time, the US was both embroiled in World War I and dealing with a pandemic. Teddy Roosevelt adamantly supported the war, and even wanted to serve despite his age and failing health, but criticized President Woodrow Wilson for not playing a bigger role on the European war front. Wilson responded by trying to quash all criticism through Sedition Act of 1918 that criminalized any “disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language” about the U.S. government or military.

While the records above from President Teddy Roosevelt are not from the National Archives, we do hold records of government efforts to foster “patriotic spirit” including the original Declaration of Independence. and thousands of military recruitment posters, some more effective than others, including this one:
“Like mighty Niagara’s torrents is the strong surge of our patriotism.”

reblog this if you're okay with booping spams please !!
- The “Kyushu-Fight” Dabi mentions is probably referring to the Pro-Hero Arc in Hawks’ hometown. Dabi wanted Endeavor to win this fight.
- Dabi is the puppeteer behind “Ending” and “Star Servant”. He was the one sending them to attack Endeavor. (It finally explains how Ending knew where the Todorokis lived. And Star Servants’ talking about how Endeavor needed to be taken down as soon as possible. Dabi wanted Endeavor to win those fights.)
- Dabi doesn’t mention Shoto, implying he doesn’t plan on targeting his little brother. (I’M A FOOL; HE THOUGHT ABOUT KILLING SHOTO HOLY)
Dabi wanted to built himself up as a irredeemable villain, and he wanted to build Endeavor up as the “shining light”, the number One Hero everyone depends on. - So he could tear hero-society’s strongest pillar down with the reveal.
Dabi knows exaclty that innocent lives have value. He knows that weak people should be protected and he killed them for exactly that reason! Because doing so as the “SON OF ENDEAVOR” would stain Endeavor’s name even further. Everything Dabi was ever focused on, is justice for himself. Every beat of Dabi’s heart only happens because little Touya wants to hurt, destroy, humilliate and break Endeavor in all ways a human can possibly be broken.
Dabi plans on taking Endeavor “to hell” with him.
Also I really need to get back to work now, holy shit. (Tell me if I made any mistakes up there, so I can fix them. Have a great day!)
I couldn’t agree more
A picture is worth a 1000 words and this photo speaks heavily to me…

Incredible!
WaterLight,
This low-cost high-innovation LED lamp uses saltwater to recharge its batteries! It was designed for neighborhoods with little to no access to electricity. Instead of requiring a traditional power outlet to replenish its batteries, the WaterLight uses a water-activated magnesium battery that causes a reaction when it comes in contact with brine.
This effectively means the WaterLight can be charged via ocean water, regular saltwater, or in emergency cases, even urine.
The WaterLight is much more efficient than a solar-powered lamp, generating much more energy than a solar panel would. “WaterLight can be more efficient than solar energy lanterns because it regenerates instantly,” said Pipe Ruiz Pineda, executive creative director of Wunderman Thompson Colombia. “Once filled with water, the energy delivery is immediate while solar lanterns need to transform solar energy to alternative energy to charge batteries and they only work if there is sun.”
Almost a billion people have no access to electricity, according to World Health Organization data. That’s roughly 14% of the world that has to live in the darkness for half of the day. This stops them from being able to work and live, and makes it difficult for kids to study past dusk too.
The WaterLight was designed to help them easily and effectively combat this situation without relying on a power grid. The light comes made from entirely recyclable materials that are water-resistant too. Inlets on the top of the lamp let water flow in, while the LEDs at the bottom provide 45 days of electricity with just half a liter of salt water.

1.) I can lick my elbow
2.) I have REALLY bad insomnia. If fact, I was once able to go over three days without sleeping.
3.) My insomnia medication has the side effects of making me hungry. However, I dont exactly “wake up” when I get hungry. Instead, I sleepwalk to the kitchen and start eating random foods. To avoid this, I keep a snack by my bed so I won’t sleepwalk to the fridge.
if you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself and send it to the last 7 blogs in your notifications, anonymously or not. let’s get to know the person behind the blog. (you don’t have to if you don’t want to, of course). hope you’re ok :)
