Foggy mornings at the Louvre
(or, a random list of italian expressions that i felt like sharing with the world)
βSe son rose fioriranno.β (literally, βIf itβs roses, they will bloom.β) Itβs usually used to calm down someone (or even oneself) whoβs anxious about a certain situation (for instance going on a date), and it means that if something is bound to happen, it will, and hence that thereβs no use being nervous.
βNon s'ha da fare.β It means βitβs not to be doneβ/βitβs not to happenβ. Although this construct is strictly typical of the Florentine dialect, this fixed expression has become widely used in the Italian language after one of the most famous scenes in Alessandro Manzoniβs I Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed), in the line βQuesto matrimonio non s'ha da fare, nΓ© domani, nΓ© mai.β (βThis wedding is not to be celebrated, not tomorrow, nor ever.β)
βHai scoperto l'acqua calda.β (literally βYou have discovered hot water.β) Used to ironise about someoneβs obvious remark by calling it a revolutionary discovery.
βMorto un papa, se ne fa un altro.β (literally, βOnce a pope dies, another one is elected.β) Itβs usually used after the end of a relationship and it means that once you lose a lover, you just find another one. It can also be used in other situations with an equivalent meaning.
βUna volta ogni morte di papa.β It literally means βOnce every popeβs deathβ and itβs used as an informal synonym for βvery rarelyβ. (e.g. βMi ammalo una volta ogni morte di papa.β -> βI get sick very rarely.β)
βLa mamma Γ¨ sempre la mamma.β It means βMum will always be mum.β and itβs just an expression to state how your mum will always be there for you and will always be your home.
βChe pizza!β It literally translates βWhat a pizza!β but it has the same meaning as the English βNuts!β (e.g. βPiove.β βChe pizza!β -> βItβs raining.β βNuts!β). In the same way, the word βpizzaβ can be used as an adjective to describe an annoyingly boring person (e.g. βSei una pizza, non vuoi mai fare nulla.β -> βYouβre so boring, you never want to do anythingβ).
A view of Monetβs house and own inspirational garden: Giverny, France.
βWhen you meet the right person, you know it. You canβt stop thinking about them. They are your best friend, and your soul mate. You canβt wait to spend the rest of your life with them. No one and nothing else can compare.β

today's mood: reading historical books about the history of magic and classical novels in my own library, drinking hot coffee, sitting under the warm blanket and listen to the sounds of rain
