Ciri thought she could do this. She had been on her own for much longer, under much more traumatic circumstances. Those had ended… decently, with far  less issues than she initially expected to come out of those situations with. There was something about the quiet living in Sallow Hills, the lull of the town making even the smallest of situations seem mountainous.

She couldn’t. Ciri still felt very much like a child when she slid the key into the lock- steadily ignoring the tightness in her throat when it sank in smoothly, Yennefer hadn’t changed the locks- even more so upon swinging open the door. She dropped the duffle bag to the ground, trying to ignore the sense that she had betrayed her mother by staying away for so long.

The topic of Ciri weighed heavily on Yennefer’s mind, as it often had since the day they had met. Of course she knew that her daughter was perfectly capable of taking care of herself (especially since there was no Hunt here to chase her), but she still worried. She was still her mother, better or worse.

Things were better with Geralt, which helped soothe her frayed nerves partially but not completely. Her flat felt so empty without Ciri there to fill it.

The sound of the door opening sent a little jolt through her system; interrupting her thoughts as she was pouring herself a glass of wine in the kitchen. She wasn’t expecting any visitors, surely none that could simply open the door. Logically she knew nobody could get through the wards on the door if they weren't supposed to, but it was still ingrained in her to jump into fight mode.

As Yennefer entered the front room to investigate, her heart swelled and her anxieties diminished. Holding out her hands in a welcoming gesture for the girl to take, a smile lit up her face. “Ciri, my darling girl.”

Upon hearing this familiar voice, Jaskier tensed, he took a deep swig of his drink and composed himself. Turning to face her with wide arms “Witch, how can I be of service to you this fine day?” he smiled on the outside but his day was not fine, Jaskier was never comfortable with his emotions outside of his art and this was something very few knew.

His previous conversation with Geralt hurt him. Deeply. He was angry and defeated, just as he felt when he was left atop that mountain in Cairngorn, it was a feeling he wished would never return and yet here it is. he faltered for a moment and spoke plainly to the sorceress. “You know that your boyfriend is a bit of an arse sometimes. Don’t you?” he leant back against the bar and picked up his drink and swigged again, it may not be a lasting solution but the burning did dull his senses.

Yennefer had thought it was more likely for Skellige to fall into the sea before she saw the day where her and Jaskier were friendly. She wrapped her arms tightly around him, careful to keep the contents of her drink inside of the glass. He smelled the same as he always did. It reminded her of home.

“You can never be of any service, save cursing our ears and flattering random women,” the witch teased, letting go of him. “Yes, well, he seems to have made it *quite clear that he is no such thing to me, but yes. I am aware that he is a complete and utter arse of a human being.”

Copying his action, she took a drink of her own. Geralt was the exact thing she was trying to get off of her mind, but she supposed commiserating would work for the time being. “Should've known I’d find you here if you showed up. Been here long?”

┊   ┊   ┊   ┊   ┊

NOT EXACTLY FROM AROUND HERE.  that seemed like most people in this town.  Hell, the Doctor was here.  Sure, not one he’d ever watched but the Doctor nonetheless.  This town was spiraling in its mysteries and magic, and the more Dean healed from his own pain and nightmares, the more he wanted to explore all of it.  ❝ I’m not from here either.  Where I’m from, crystals like this work more like a placebo than anything.  Course, I’d never tell my sister that and if I can find spells to make them actually work, I would use them. But here - ❞

HERE HE WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF THE CRYSTALS REALLY DID HOLD SOME KIND OF LATENT POWER.  one that he definitely didn’t want to mix with other conflicting powers.  ❝ Thank you, really.  I’ll probably pick out a black tourmaline and red jasper then and see which works the best. ❞  He took his time, seeing which of each he was drawn towards before picking them out.  He placed them on the counter, then paused.  ❝ This is going to be a strange request, but you don’t happen to have any woods here do you?  I want to craft a coreless wand for the project, but there aren’t trees around that work for what I’m looking for.  I was going to check the nursery, but if you have poplar, pear, or fir that would be wonderful. ❞

Magical items were, in Yennefer’s experience, temperamental. Conditions, stipulations, and specifications all had to be in conjunction, and that was made even harder for her to mentally calculate now she was on a different sphere. It was hard for her to say anything for sure here.

“I’ve no clear idea on the power of them in this place, either, but belief in something alone can be powerful in its own right.” Spells, so he could use Chaos as well. There were more magically adept people here than Yennefer had originally thought, though she didn’t know if it was comforting, or something to keep an eye on. “I’m glad to help,” she wasn't particularly, but that's what a good sales associate would say, so she made it sound convincing enough.

It took a moment to think on his question. Six months there, yet some of the store’s contents remained a little elusive. In fairness, it was brimming with a wide variety of things. “I don't know if you've noticed, but everything here is a little strange, myself included,” her voice was light. Taking a little walk around the center, Yennefer stopped in front of a shelf with a small selection of different, variously shaped, woods, and gestured loosely with her hand. “Do any of these meet your needs? They look like they could be wand shaped.”

⌘Midna & Merlin⌘

image

for the one and only @wickedpotions

 Midna was restless. She was spending more time taking walks these days. They helped to clear her head in a way that nothing else she had found here could. Everything was so messy now.

After the initial elation to be reunited with Link came the explanation of where she was (and where she couldn’t return). She was unsure of how that made her feel— yes, she loved her realm and her people, but it was exhausting work to support them. Midna thought of them often on her walks, which were often at night.

She rarely came across others, especially the later the hours became, and the deeper in the forest she ventured. Of course, she had been warned of the dangers that could be waiting for her there, but Midna didn’t mind it. The bit of adrenaline kept things exciting. In the few weeks since she had arrived, her path had crossed with only one other person in the wood. The vague possibility of meeting another felt like just that— a vague possibility.

Midna should have known better than to expect things to stay that way.

As she strolled down the path, head swimming with thoughts of her beloved Twili and her far away home, her feet made no sound as they trampled the debris of the forest floor. Her attention was caught by a wisp of red fur a few meters off— a fox. She smiled slightly as she watched it paw at something hidden by the shrubbery, though her face scrunched when it heard something and bolted in the opposite direction. Midna turned to come face to face with a man she hadn't seen before. Placing a hand on her chest, she gasped softly, “Goddesses you scared me. Don’t you know its rude to sneak up on people like that?”

“Okay only if you are sure. I am starting to get better when it comes to the whole standing up thing. It took some time after the whole.. incident took place. But I am getting there and I am beyond happy about that. I do not like to just lay around and hope that everything is going to be fine. I need to actually make sure that I am gonna be fine and not just hope and wonder"

Zelda had always been quite stubborn when it came to these things. They had never been someone who let other people take care of them. Not even the people that worked for her back home in Hyrule. No no they refused. She was her own person which meant that she can take care of herself. And that she could. Zelda had proven that time and time again.

Sam had always enjoyed cooking, he was a Hobbit after all, and cooking was one of a Hobbit’s favorite activities. So he didn’t mind to offer at all, especially if the cause was to make sure Zelda didn’t start feeling any worse than they already did.

“‘If I'm sure?’ You sound ridiculous,” he said as he shook his head, a fondness in his voice and a glint in his eye. He understood her eagerness to get on with life after such an injury. He had seen it firsthand with his Frodo on multiple occasions. “No, I didn’t think you would like such a thing. You’ve always struck me as a doer, and not a watcher. Every step is one more step back to normal, I think. You’ll be up to your usual antics again in no time.”

⌘Samwise & Harry⌘

@ambiticvs

Some days in Sallow Hills blended together for Sam. They trickled one into the next, uninterrupted in their passing. Other days held much more. In a town like this, it was a gamble on what the day would bring. So far, Samwise’s day had brought him little of interest (aside from finding one of the primula vulgaris he had been tending back to health had bloomed); it was so dull, he found himself half asleep while doing inventory at the front counter.

He shook his head in an attempt to knock some of the drowsiness out. In doing this, he knocked the notebook and pen onto the floor. ‘Ninnyhammer, Sam Gamgee’ he scolded to the empty room. With a sigh, he bent down to pick it up, and by the time he had risen, there was a person in the shop.

“Ah, hello! Can I help you with something?”

It would be a long process but as long as they had people supporting them, they knew that everything would be okay. The wounds had healed beautifully and it was comforting to know that. The time she had spent at the hospital had not been for nothing. Even though all they wanted to do was get back home and lay in the comfort of Link’s arms, they knew it was better to stay in the hospital for as long as they needed.

But thankfully it only took her a month and now she was finally able to live her life again. Go to work, spend time with friends and sleep next to their boyfriend. Ah right, they would have to try and call Merlin. They missed him so it was a no brainer.

“Oh Sam” placing a hand on her chest, she smiled. “You are so sweet. I do need to get better at standing up for long periods of time”

⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰

There wouldn’t be a day seen on Earth where Sam wouldn't support Zelda with whatever they may need. He had taken a liking to them from the day they met, and only wanted the best for them. Sam would cook her and Link three meals a day if it meant she would heal faster (that was quite unrealistic, and would likely be quite bothersome for everyone involved, but the thought was what mattered).

He was overjoyed she liked the gesture. He had been slightly nervous as he wasn’t sure if this was a social norm shared between their worlds or not. In coming to Sallow Hills he discovered many of his ways were “outdated”; he was glad to find this was not one of them.

“I just wanted to lend a hand, ‘n this is the only way I know how,” he replied, smiling back at her. “If you want, I can help you with making somethin’ for us. That way you can sit down if’n you need. How's that sound?”

 ⋆៹ ✩۪۟۟≭  CATRA && MIDNA

· · ┈─────── ⋆៹ ✩۪۟۟≭ ───────┈ · ·

Catra couldn’t help but smile a little bit. Midna was indeed perking them up, a task which had felt impossible an hour ago.

Xe felt a bit odd when Midna linked arms with xem. It was rather intimate, at least in Catra’s opinion. Xe weren’t used to a lot of physical touch from people that weren’t Adora. But it was nice, and xe let Midna lead xem, enjoying the path and the silence.

Xe weren’t suprised though when Midna spoke up. Midna definitely had a way about her. She seemed to be good at drawing Catra out of xir shell.

“Still at the B&B,” Catra said. “I hadn’t bothered looking for a place of my own, given that I was determined to get the hell out of here. But I suppose I should start looking now that I’m most definitely stuck.”

image

⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰

Understanding what Catra meant, Midna nodded. Everything about arriving in this place was stressful, and she couldn’t blame them for stubbornly trying to abandon the place.

“I suppose you should,” she agreed. “Places here aren’t hard to come by. There's a bunch of different options, and someone is always looking for a roommate. I’m sure you’ll find something soon enough. You can at least make yourself comfortable while you try and plan a break out or while you wait for your friends to show up.”

It wasn't long before they were nearing one of the roads into town. There wasn't anyone on the street that Midna could see, but that was to be expected at this time of night. The moon was high, and the hour was getting late. This was admittedly her favorite way to see Sallow Hills— blanketed by the soft glow of the moon. It was the closest to the feeling of home she could get.

@shallowmagics

The Dwarven Nursery was the best place in town to find plants of many sorts: common, uncommon, and… otherly. The shop was not very large, but it was brimming with life. On certain shelves you would find lush plants, already stable and ready to take home for decorative use. A few shelves, brightly lit by special bulbs, featured tiny sprouts that were barely more than an inch. The back corner was where most of the otherly plants were kept, as they tended to benefit from special treatment. A vast majority of the place held intermediary growths, ready to be planted and still in need of support.

All of the current greenery was being taken care of by one Samwise Gamgee, a man with a kind heart and a particular proclivity for plants. He kept himself busy with work, having little else to do with his time.

Against one wall of the shop, there was a nicely lit workbench (currently littered with loose soils and plants). It’s where Sam had stationed himself nearly an hour ago, now. He had been toying with a strange plant species unfamiliar to him, trying to deduce the best soil and lighting for it. He had cross referenced a few books from the library, yet none had agreed.

It was in the midst of examining freshly cleaned roots with a pair of tweezers that he heard the door. “Be there in a moment!” In a fluid motion, he removed the magnifying glasses he wore, switched the lamplight off, and dusted his hands off on his jeans. Sam made his way up to the counter at the front.

“Welcome in! Can I help you find something? Or do you have a mind already?”
