He understood the sentiment, maybe it would be best to sever ties with Geralt, but he also knew that it wouldn’t last long. “yes, the liqour does seem alot nicer here. and there seem to be many different types aswell, each with unique flavours.and all of the special mixes and combinations of colourful liquids, it looks like an alchemical workshop in every bar.”
Yennefer nodded, being quite happy with the newfound assortment of liquor herself. She was beginning to understand why the pub was so often brimming with people. It wasn't so people could confer and it happened to be the only place in town for such a thing, but because they actually enjoyed the drink and company. She missed The Continent as much as the rest of them did, but Yennefer didn’t think she could ever miss the stench or service or patrons of one of its inns.
“It is indeed,” she murmured as she eyed the colorful bottles on display. There was silence between them for a minute before she broke the tension. “You know, I’ve dreamt up a lot of things in my time, but I never thought the pair of us would ever be stood together lamenting our sorrows over drinks.”

Catra nodded slowly. “It’s the most gorgeous name in the world,” xe said, and then giggled. “Fitting too, as I a-dore Adora.” It was stupid, but it made her laugh a little bit.
It was an easy silence between them as they walked, and xe turned toward Midna again as she spoke.
“Thanks,” xe said. “I suppose if it happened for you it might for me too. I mean, I’ve only been here a couple of days. And I’m certain Adora is searching for me. If anyone can find a way here, it’s her and her friends.”
It was an interesting thought, thinking of Adora, Bow, and Glimmer here with xem. To be honest, Catra didn’t really care where xe were, as long as Adora was with xem. This strange little town would do just fine if Adora showed up. Xe allowed xemself to feel a semblance of hope.
Catra’s affectionate look made Midna smile a little to herself. She liked seeing people happily in love, even if she didn’t have anyone of her own. Midna was willing to play a lot of parts, but that of the crotchety stick in the mud wasn’t on the list.
The woods were quiet as they walked back. Midna couldn’t say she minded the companionable silence. She rarely minded when it was quiet anymore. It was so rare she got the chance for a break.
“I hope she does come along. I’d hate to think you feel stranded out here on your own. I’ve been there and I know what it feels like. Not fun...” Midna shrugged a little. Idly, she wondered who was searching for her. There had to be dozens of guards and patrols out looking. A queen didn't just up and disappear, yet here she was.
Midna looked down at her walking partner, trying for a reassuring smile, and hoping it didn’t come off as too sinister. “And if you need anyone around in the meantime, I’m usually around doing this or that. Not too busy for another friend hanging around. No pressure though.”

“Two? Oh wow look at you go” Zelda said and giggled. It was good to know that he did have people that he loved. Because she was pretty biased when it came to love. Without Link in her life he didn’t know how much of Hyrule and Sallow she could take. She would have just shut down and walked around an emotionless robot her entire life. Link had been their saving grace time and time again. It felt like whatever life threw their way, they could handle it alongside their blonde hero.
“Oh hold on you need some salt” Trying to stand up, she let out a low whimper and sat down again. Even though she was slowly getting better and stronger, she could still have moments when her body just begged her to sit still or lay in bed. They really did miss going to work and they did miss being able to do all the things they used to do. But now it felt like their life was put on hold all because of the actions of one man.
Looking down on the floor, they cursed under their breath when they felt tears roll down their cheeks. It was just so unfair. And sometimes it became too much for Zelda to handle because this should have never happened.
Zelda's comment made Sam chuckle. He supposed it was a bit amusing to think of. If you would've told him ten years ago that he would have the pair of them in his life like that, he wouldn't have believed you. He was a lucky hobbit, no doubt about it.
“Right, I do-“ he started, yet broke off when he heard the sound they made. “Zelda.”
In a moment, Samwise had set down everything in his hands and was at their side. He wiped the residual moisture from his hands before taking each of her shoulders in his grasp. The look he gave her was one of deep understanding.
He reached and tore a paper towel off of the roll, quickly handing it to her. He used his other hand to lift her chin as a parent would their child. That's when the realization suddenly hit him, the understanding of exactly why he was so concerned for this woman. For some inexplicable reason, she had made her way into his heart like that. All he could do about it was try and make sure she was alright. He tried for a comforting smile, and hoped it worked. “Deep breaths, that's it. No need for tears now.”

Dorcas grinned at him, happy to receive the compliment. “Well, I’d say magic does help me do my job efficiently. Some things do take more time of course, more serious injuries and illnesses, but a simple prick like this, well-” She shrugged. “No problem at all, and I’m happy to be of service.”
Dorcas listened to him speak.
“It really is fascinating,” she agreed. She glanced at the door, not wanting to cut their conversation short, but knowing she really should get back to work and fill out the necessary paperwork for Sam’s visit… but then again, it wasn’t very busy today, so what’s the harm of staying a little extra longer to chat with one of her favorite literary figures? It wasn’t every day you got to talk to somebody from Middle Earth.
“What’s magic like where you’re from?” she asked, knowing the answer but eager to hear about it from someone who had actually witnessed it.
Samwise was more than happy to stay and chat for a while. He was always content to chatter on for as long as anyone would let him. He rested his newly fixed hand back in his lap, thinking how to answer Dorcas’ question.
“Magic is something the wizards and fair elves use. I haven't seen either of those over here, well not yet. There were originally five wizards that came to middle earth from the undying lands. There's only two left now. And few of the fair elves remain too. The magic is breathtaking. Beautiful.” He didn't want to bring up the darker parts of magic he had seen. The business with the war of the ring was heavy, and this was not the time nor place to bring it up, especially to a stranger. “I like seeing it being used more commonly here, though. As I said before, its stunning.”

THE WOMAN WAS DRESSED INTERESTINGLY, TO SAY THE LEAST. not that zsasz had any place to talk with his nearly all-leather get up. Hers was certainly more fitting for a Welsh countryside town than his own, but he’d never been one to mind standing out in a crowd. In fact, it usually was quite the opposite. Zsasz knew how to use shadows and darkness to his aid, but also when to draw the eye of everyone around him.
HE PUT THE BOX OF GOOD ON THE COUNTER, raising a brow bone at kai who seemed to look up at him in question. He sighed. He supposed he and Oswald were spoiling the dragon a bit too much. ❝ Don’t you have a register to guard? ❞ Kai let out a snort, but did turn and head over to the small, purple pillow beside the cash register. With that, Zsasz turned his attention back to the woman.
HE TOOK THE KNIFE, CAREFULLY MOVING IT TO NOT CUT EITHER OF THEM. ❝ yes well, i suppose the knives either moved in transport or my shop assistant was messing around in the back and hoped i wouldn’t notice. Either way, thank you. If you feel I need to prove myself proficient at weapons, I’m always happy to give a demonstration. ❞ He spun the knife in his hand, getting it into a more comfortable grip. Quickly, he took aim at the board he had across the store for just this and sent the knife flying. It landed in the bullseye with a thunk. He gave a flourish of a half bow. ❝ Now, is there anything I can assist you with? ❞

Yennefer couldn’t help but to watch the dragon retreat to its spot beside the register. It was a mistake in the end, as the sight once again took her mind elsewhere. She was quickly brought back to the moment when he spoke once again.
She wasn’t sure if it had been the intention, but she wasn't intimidated or startled. In fact, she was far from it. For the first time since she had arrived in Sallow Hills, she was hit with a startling amount of familiarity. The way he dressed, the dramatics, the set up and contents of the shop: they reminded her of home. She could’ve sworn something identical had happened with Lambert when she was visiting Kaer Morhen once, but she didn’t want to dwell on it. She had business to do.
“Impressive. Though, I was making a joke.” A smirk grew on her face as she met his eyes, and there was a quirk to her brow in sudden intrigue of the man before her. Yennefer nonchalantly crossed her arms in front of her as she looked between him and the blade now protruding from the wall. “I’m new here. I don’t have any... guarantee of personal protection, and I should like to remedy that. What would you recommend?”

ZSASZ COCKED HIS HEAD SLIGHTLY TO THE SIDE. he took the woman’s words as a compliment, even if he hadn’t been expecting them. ❝I don’t think everyone would agree with you there, but most of them are … stuck up in their ideas and morals. People who are willing to look past that tend to think I’m pretty smart though.❞
HE KNEW HIS STUFF. he knew weapons, he knew how to kill. You could put him in an empty room and he could still come up with three ways to murder someone else. At least. People like Jimbo wouldn’t appreciate that. Or Slim Jim would pretend he didn’t appreciate it because he’s ❛morally❜ ❛superior❜. Whatever that was supposed to mean. ❝ It certainly fits you well. Looks like it was something you were meant to have. And in this town, you can’t ever be too careful when it comes to protecting yourself. Most things take it as a - stay outta my way and I’ll stay outta yours. But sometimes things get weird. ❞
⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰
With a small laugh, Yennefer shook her head in amusement, “Yes, well, most people tend not to agree with me on many of my standpoints. No surprise there.”
While she absently examined the other weapons on the table, she thought on his words. How were people here managing to unknowingly spew things that boiled down to be about destiny? Even if it was a figure of speech, Yennefer was starting to hate the idea of ‘meant to be,’ even with something as minute as a blade. It didn’t crush her spirits too much, as she was much too pleased with her find.
His advice made well enough sense; it was similar to how certain cities were back on The Continent. People were still people, after all. Her hands retreated from the weaponry, and fingers tapped against the edge of the counter, “You sound like you speak from experience. What sort of weird?”

IVY HAD NO QUALMS WITH SECRET , ALIEN , OR DANGEROUS PLANTS . obviously , since she spent so much time in the locked room . She was also trying to regrow her precious giant Dionaea muscipula here in Sallow Hills . But it did have her intrigued . Was this going to be a plant she’d never met before ? Was it something that people just weren’t overly common with but that she knew well ? A dying species ?
SHE STOPPED WHEN SAM DID , eyes wondering over to the plants . They looked horrendous . Drooping and dull in color , but she could see how beautiful they would be at their peak . Star shaped petals that would be a brilliant yellow , strong stalks of vibrant green . They were crying though , and Ivy’s heart ached for them . If it was anyone else , she would’ve spun on the owner with harsh words and maybe a poisoned nick . But she knew how careful Sam was , and this was just a difficult issue .
❝ Magic is what some people would call it and I don’t mind the term . I’m connected with something we call The Green in my world . It’s an elemental force , I suppose similar to a God . It has power over all vegetation , giving them life and power . I was given a connection to the Green which allows me to commune with plants , grow them , manipulate them . ❞ She wasn’t sure if she wanted to explain HOW she’d gained this ability , exactly . It wasn’t a light hearted discussion . ❝ I believe I have this ability because I , myself , am part plant . ❞
SHE REACHED OUT , running her fingers over the plants . They weren’t as receptive as terran-plants , but she suspected they could tell she wanted to help and reached back out to her due to that . ❝ I think there’s a nutrients missing . Something from their native world that isn’t in this soil . ❞
The first part of Ivy’s explanation made sense. Or as much sense as it could to Sam. Some people simply had magical abilities, ranging from broadly anything to very specific topics. It wasn’t until she said she was ‘part plant’ that he became truly perplexed. She looked human, acted human, felt human... but she wasn't-- by her own admission. He would have to let it go. There were worse and stranger things in the world, many of which he had dealt with himself, so knowing someone who was part plant would just have to go on the list of strange things he had encountered.
“So, you do so well with the plants because you... talk to them?” he asked, wanting to make sure that's what he heard. “And these ones tell you what they’re missing something? Can they say what it is?” He was eager and nervous at the same time. He wanted these little flowers to blossom so badly, it didn't matter how much time, effort, or money he had to pour into it.

MERLIN WASN’T SURE IF HE SHOULD FEEL REASSURED OR WORRIED THAT SOMEONE ELSE BRUSHED OFF THE WARNINGS . there were dangerous things in the forest , though he suspected most of those things were less dangerous than the town let on . They were territorial , and honestly weren’t humans as well ? ❝ It feels like a staple of humanity that they like to warn people away from everything , even if it’s not nearly as scary as they let on . I’ve ran into a few nasty things in the forest , but not many . Most things just like having their space . ❞
OF COURSE , HE WAS ALSO A CREATURE OF MAGICK , and that tended to ease some of the tensions between him and other creatures . They were attracted to eir magick , and more likely to let em into their space .
❝ IT IS NICE TO THINK ALONE , if you have a lot on you remind . Is home far away for you ? Or nearby ? ❞ Ey supposed that was the easiest way to phrase it . There were people from worlds so unlike this one here , and others like him who were a bit closer .
Midna looked around the surrounding trees, not out of any anxiety, but simple awareness. Her eyes were best adjusted to the dark. She spotted birds in the trees, heard the sounds of creatures foraging and settling in their homes, and saw as the intermittent breeze blew about fallen leaves. To her, it was peaceful. She was glad that Merlin wasn’t disturbing the peace. “Fair enough I suppose. I understand wanting space, that's why I came out here after all.”
It took a moment for her to figure out an answer to eir question. It was a complicated one if she really thought about it. While she had been good with science classes with her tutors, she was far from an expert. “It's a little bit of both I think. It's far away, yet just under our nose all at once. To get straight to the point, my home is the realm of shadows. A parallel one to the world of light.”
To demonstrate, she moved her hand, and one of the shadows that previously was in the shape of the small bush casting it, turned into the shape of a big dog, then a bird, then the fox that they had both been looking at. She smiled faintly at the shapes before letting them seep back to their original form. Perks of being the Twilight’s ruler. Midna shook her head as she looked back to Merlin, “But I can’t seem to slip back into the world of shadows since I got here.” She smiled then, wanting to dispel the subtle wave of sadness. “What about you? Are you from this Earth or from someplace else?”

IN LONDON, DEAN HADN’T TRUSTED METAPHYSICAL SHOPS. aaliyah had loved them and often dragged dean to them, even when he insisted the ❛ magic ❜ they claimed was nothing but a hoax. The Bubbling Cauldron in town was different, though. Aaliyah would have loved it, and Dean actually believed at least some of the things in the shop held power. There were different kinds of magic in this town, ones he’d never seen before. So it wouldn’t be unbelievable if these things held power he didn’t sense in his home.
HE WASN’T HERE FOR MAGIC, THOUGH. per say. The after-school program he worked for had asked him if he wanted to participate in the teacher showcase, and he’d said yes. He could’ve done something easy, like a painting or a piece in charcoal. But he wanted to push himself outside of his comfort zone, and he had the perfect image in his head. It was a 3-D piece honoring different types of magic here in town. His magic, through words and wands. The magic of plants, of the moon, of gems. Potions, runes. Everything and anything.
HE WAS LOST EXAMINING THE CRYSTALS WHEN THE WORKER SPOKE. he jumped a bit, having not expected them. ❝ Kind of? I’m working on an art piece and I wanted to include some crystals. My sister has told me a million times what each of them do and stand for, but I just can’t keep track of them. Are you familiar with any? ❞
Yennefer always had an excellent memory. She had used that to her advantage while studying her craft. When she had come to this realm, she had nearly immediately started her research on the magical elements this world contained. By no means was she an expert, but she would get there, and she knew enough to get by in the meantime.
“I am indeed. What exactly are you trying to incorporate in your piece? An emotion? An energy? Something beautiful?” She raised an eyebrow as she studied him. “My first suggestion would be to start with the one that draws you in first; in my opinion that’s usually the stone that wants to be used, but it's just a suggestion.
With an elegant wave of her hand, she gestured towards two stands in the shop, full with baskets of different crystals and stones. “There's a display here, and another there. Whatever you find appealing, I’d be happy to describe for you.”
