He listened intently to each and every word, letting them hang in the small space between them. Time and space ceased to exist and for once he did not care. He was content in this little world of their. He was far away from all the hurt and from all his fears. He was safe here, happy here, warm and maybe even loved here. He could feel the words sink into his skin, burn like the summer rays.
This was not fair. It wasn’t right to finally find someone who gave him the sensations he had been yearning for. Every single face he looked at, every body he had touched during his years here in Sallow. None of them made him feel like she did. Just one glance and he felt whole again. It made it hard to breathe almost because every single gasp for air made his lungs heavier. And now that she touched him, his soul almost left his body all together.
Please remember. Please just remember, you fucker.
Geralt’s eyes closed at the kiss. It was like his body almost betrayed him because when she turned, he felt his hand reach out. Finding a home on her arm, he didn’t do anything to turn her back around. He did not have the right to dictate if she wanted to face him or not. That was her’s and only her’s. “I truly am sorry” the former Witcher whispered. “I want to remember. I want to look at you and not feel confusion”
Anything Yennefer could do or say would be unfair to him. He didn’t know better, and none of it was his fault, yet her chest ached and eyes stung. She tried and tried and tried to keep it together, but failed miserably the second she felt his hand settle on her arm. By the time she turned toward him once more, tears had silently slipped down her cheeks.
The only person who could ever break Yennefer of Vengerberg was Geralt of Rivia.
“And I want the same,” her voice remained level, if not a little strained. “Because you mean very much to me. Very much indeed. And the thought of you walking around here like some stranger is... I cant, Geralt. I cant do that. I look at you and all I want to do is-” She stopped, not for herself, but for him. He didn't need to hear this.
Wiping her face with the back of the wrist on her free arm, Yennefer steadied herself. Her mascara probably smudged, but she barely found it in herself to care for once. Appearance had already been spoiled, after all. Clearing her mind, tucking her heart back in its gilded cage, drying her eyes, and squaring her shoulders, she looked at him properly once more. Façade back up. “I’m sorry you had to see me like that.”

Midna never let boredom take her for long. Unemployed though she was, she had enough friends and things to do to keep her busy most days. When those options failed her, she simply went out in search of something else to occupy her time.
At first it had manifested as an eagerness to give the forest a thorough exploration. Midna had met her fair share of interesting people and sights there. Then, she moved on to the rest of town proper. She acquainted herself well enough with the layout of houses and shops should she ever need any of them. It was after a few weeks of being there that she realised she hadn't explored much of the opposite end of town, near the coast.
All of her friends occupied with their own business, and wanting to remedy that fact, Midna decided to take the day to poke around the coast to look for something interesting.
She hadn’t been there ten minutes when she heard a voice from behind her that made her head swivel like an owl. She squinted a little against the sun, trying to get a better look at the person now standing there. Midna cocked her head to the side a little. “Sorry, come again? Couldn’t hear you.”

YENNEFER WAS IMPRESSIVE IN MANY WAYS . if not for oswald , and for the piss-poor bloke that somehow had wandered into yenn’s heart , zsasz wondered if there would’ve been more than admiration in his feelings . But after Oswald - well no one would ever capture the feelings that Oswald brought out of him . But this was quite like being back in Gotham with Liz or Candy or any of the other Zsaszettes . She would’ve fit right in with them , especially the way she could knock back a shot .
He leaned in , listening intently to her vent . It really was a shitty situation , and one where he did not like the other party in the slightest . ❝ I do agree having it out in a public chat is not the smartest move . And I wouldn’t worry about Ciri . I’ve heard the owner of the B&B is quite good at her job , and takes it seriously . She’s safe here . ❞ He took a long drag of his daiquiri . ❝ The sex is a differnet matter , but I certainly know other ways you can get your rocks off if that’s what you need . There’s plenty of available parties in town . ❞
Yennefer gave a little shrug, mouth in a taut line before taking a sip of her drink. There was no changing the past, and she had to accept what had happened. Undoubtedly, she was more than peeved at what Geralt had done, but she had grown tired of scratching that wound.
“I know Ciri is more than alright on her own. She has always been keen to show that much, and I can't deny after everything she’s been through that she's incapable, but no matter how nice they are at the B&B, she’s not where she belongs. That girl’s stubbornness is killer. My only real job in this place is to make sure she’s alright– something I can do much better when she’s around. She doesn’t understand what it's like to be an adult yet, and… oh it's not worth working myself up over again. I think you know what I mean, though.” After taking a good drink from the little black straw in her glass, she narrowed her eyes at him. “You mean to tell me the entire time I’ve been here there's been orgies going on? I’m only just hearing about this now?”
Yennefer pulled a look that gave the impression of a sad puppy. That would have been good to know when she was brimming with boredom and frustration a few months ago.

ZSASZ COULDN’T HELP BUT SNORT. ❝ multitasking. A girl after my own heart, though Liz always got on me about enjoying a snack on the job. ❞ The woman certainly had an air about her that told him she knew what she was doing. There were some in Sallow Hills it would be stupid to sell more than a hunting or pocket knife too, lest they hurt themselves more than anything else. But he could tell she was pretty knowledgeable in the way she held herself. It wasn’t a fake sorta confidence in what she was looking for, but something fairly genuine.
❝ SOMETIMES, THOUGH, ZONING IN ON JUST ONE THING IS FUN. when you just let yourself focus on the hunt and nothing else. When it takes over your entire mind. ❞ He pushed away from the counter, eyes racking over the knives in front of him. He slid down to a different case, this one mainly filled with machetes. However, tucked away in the back away from just a skimming eye, were a few short swords. He pulled them out, laying them on the top of the case, then pulled out a few of his heftier daggers.
❝ HERE’S WHAT I GOT IN STOCK RIGHT NOW. if none of them suit your fancy, let me know what you like and don’t like about each of them and i can see what i can order the next time i get inventory. ❞
You could never be too careful in unfamiliar places. A lesson Yennefer had learned all too well when she was much younger than she was today. Physical weapons had never been her preferred method of fighting, but one made sacrifices of aesthetics for safety.
When it takes over your entire mind. She nearly appreciated the sentiment, but the thought made her sick. She had done once. Her Chaos took over her mind as she became a conduit for it. It was a powerful move, but deadly, and it nearly took her. No, she was better off multitasking. “I suppose you’re right, but nothing is ever sure to work out the way you plan initially. You seem to be the type to understand that.”
Studying the cases with a keen eye, Yennefer carefully considered her options. She was no fighter, but she knew enough to get by. They seemed well crafted as they could be for this place, or she thought so anyway. “I’m sure one of these will work nicely, no need for special orders.” She paused, well manicured fingers ghosting over the hilts of the weapons, before they settled over a short sword, which she picked up to feel the balance of. Not completely liking the feel, she tried the next one over, which suited her hand much better. “This one is nice. What is it?”

“Two? Oh wow look at you go” Zelda said and giggled. It was good to know that he did have people that he loved. Because she was pretty biased when it came to love. Without Link in her life he didn’t know how much of Hyrule and Sallow she could take. She would have just shut down and walked around an emotionless robot her entire life. Link had been their saving grace time and time again. It felt like whatever life threw their way, they could handle it alongside their blonde hero.
“Oh hold on you need some salt” Trying to stand up, she let out a low whimper and sat down again. Even though she was slowly getting better and stronger, she could still have moments when her body just begged her to sit still or lay in bed. They really did miss going to work and they did miss being able to do all the things they used to do. But now it felt like their life was put on hold all because of the actions of one man.
Looking down on the floor, they cursed under their breath when they felt tears roll down their cheeks. It was just so unfair. And sometimes it became too much for Zelda to handle because this should have never happened.
Zelda's comment made Sam chuckle. He supposed it was a bit amusing to think of. If you would've told him ten years ago that he would have the pair of them in his life like that, he wouldn't have believed you. He was a lucky hobbit, no doubt about it.
“Right, I do-“ he started, yet broke off when he heard the sound they made. “Zelda.”
In a moment, Samwise had set down everything in his hands and was at their side. He wiped the residual moisture from his hands before taking each of her shoulders in his grasp. The look he gave her was one of deep understanding.
He reached and tore a paper towel off of the roll, quickly handing it to her. He used his other hand to lift her chin as a parent would their child. That's when the realization suddenly hit him, the understanding of exactly why he was so concerned for this woman. For some inexplicable reason, she had made her way into his heart like that. All he could do about it was try and make sure she was alright. He tried for a comforting smile, and hoped it worked. “Deep breaths, that's it. No need for tears now.”

KATE FINISHED WIPING DOWN YESTERDAY’S FACTOID OFF THE MINI CHALKBOARD SHE’D BOUGHT, and thumbed through her phone for the next one. It was one of her favorite bits of the White Rabbit during Pride Month - getting to share information to the community. When did the first gay bar open? 1936 - Mona’s 440 Club in San Francisco. The bell chiming pulled Kate’s attention away from the board, as she smiled at the woman who walked in.
❝ Welcome! We’re not too packed right now, but be warned - it’s poetry night tonight and I’ve had a lot of people promise to come. ❞

River had not had much time to explore town since she had arrived a few months back. Her job kept her busy making lesson plans, grading papers, and coming up with engaging activities for her students. She had heard people reference places here and there, and felt it was high time she actually got around to visiting some of them for herself.
Having decided to go to the White Rabbit after work was one of the best ideas she’d had in a long while. Upon entering it was easy to see why people liked the place so much. She couldn’t remember the last time she had been individually greeted when walking into a bar (but to be completely fair— River didn’t remember much of anything).
“Poetry night?” River flashed a smile, “I had no idea. How exciting!”

It was stupid to believe Geralt. Back home, believing her father was a matter of her own life or death. Trusting Geralt meant Ciri had a much better chance of living. Even if it scared her in the process. She had spent longer than she thought with him that day, holding onto that same hope.
If she was with Geralt, she was safe.
Cirilla had never imagined one of her core tenants would shatter around her like broken glass.
“I know, I know I shouldn’t.” But she wanted to.
“I liked it better when I thought he was on a different sphere,” she muttered, dark and low. Selfish, she knew but Ciri would say anything, wish for anything, in order to contain the gaping wound in her chest.
If Yennefer could’ve stopped the pain herself, she would’ve. She wanted to find every one of the fragmented pieces around her daughter, to take them on as her own; for those she couldn't take, she would file them down until they couldn't do harm any longer. Ciri was the only person she could ever fathom doing such a thing for.
“I preferred it that way too. It was much easier like that.” Her fingers continued smoothing down her back, until she decided to make a little attempt at capturing Ciri’s attention. A wisp of concentrated pale smoke came up from one of the few burning candles in the room. Though the fire was not its source, Yennefer was. It grew in size until it was nearly the size of a basketball. It danced around the living room in the shape of little animals and birds and figures.
“I think the pair of us deserve a Skellige beach vacation after all of this. Don’t you?”

“Thanks, me too,” Catra said. They were silent, pondering the next thing Midna had said. Her offer of friendship. Catra didn’t usually do friends. In the past, their only friend had been Adora, but recently, Adora’s friends had become theirs. And now here, in this new place, they had no friends, and it felt far more lonely than it had in the past.
“Okay,” xe said. “I accept your offer of friendship.” It was rather a formal and awkward way of saying it, but Catra could be sort of awkward when it came to new things, like friendship. Xe offer her a shy smile, trying not to feel self conscious.
Grinning at xer words, Midna gave an enthusiastic spin around. Any normal being would have tripped on the countless twisting tree roots or forest debris, but Midna was far from normal. She stuck out in the forest: much too tall, red hair cutting through the pitch black, a skirt and nice shoes. Of course, if she truly desired to sink deep enough into the shadows that she went unseen, she could, though she saw little fun in that.
“Midna and Catra. Catra and Midna. I think it has a ring to it,” she said lightly. As they approached the edge of the forest, Midna stretched out her arms and sighed as if she had just finished a lovely yoga class. She looked over at her new friend, trying to figure out the best move. While Midna had much more experience with being friendly, her royal status made it difficult to have any sense of normalcy. She hoped she had a decent enough grasp on the concept to make this work. “I’m starving. You wanna swing over to my apartment for some late night paninis?”
