I Appreciate The Behind-the-scenes We Get Into Your Worldbuilding. It's Fun Getting To Learn Random History

I appreciate the behind-the-scenes we get into your worldbuilding. It's fun getting to learn random history trivia that must've come from hours of research and Wikipedia rabbit holing, and you seem to be enjoying yourself. Thanks for all the work you put into the game, it really shows!

Awww! Thank you so much!

To be honest, a daily occurrence I have with my friends and family is me bouncing into a room and starting with the line:

'Pub quiz fact for you, did you know...'

The nice thing now is that I have a whole bunch of folks other than my long-suffering nearest and dearest to plague with random bits of antiquated trivia!

For example:

In a textual sources sense it is believed by some that the Werewolf is a largely French originating creature. They had some rather terrifying problems with wolf attacks throughout their history, and this is reflected in their folklore. See the Beast of Gévaudan for a good example.

It's stated in the Oxford Dictionary of English Folklore that:

'Although Gervase of Tilbury wrote in 1211 that werewolves were common throughout England, the examples he then gave are all French'.

However, while I was off looking up two entirely different creatures, namely one 'Raw Head' and one 'Bloody Bones', I came across this extract from around 1550:

Or put a difference betwene their Grādmothers tale of Bloudy bone, Raw head, Bloudelesse and Ware woulf, and the Churches Doctrine of Hell and the Deuill.

John Rastell - A treatise intitled, Beware of M.Iewel. Vol 3

I definitely want to find out more about Bloodless whatever they may be, and interesting that Rastell uses the Werewolf in a similar context of Grandmother's tales as very English figures of Raw Head and Bloody Bones. Does imply, though certainly not in any way prove, that there might be more of a werewolf tradition here than previously suspected.

I love when ancient poets talk about how doomed & hubristic seafaring is. like yess lets surpass our natural limitations and travel to unknown places. let's test the boundaries between life and death with our human ambition. let's shipwreck ourselves and bring nothing but grief and tragedy to human history with our overstep. this is so sexy

surprise? i know it’s been a while but chapter seven of When Twilight Strikes will (finally) go live publicly june 3rd at 1pm EST. the password is already up for those of you in the midnight tier on patreon, and will be released for the twilight tier this sunday.

(if you’re thinking of pledging for the demo, i’d suggest doing so and cancelling once you get the password unless you plan on sticking around for june, as my patreon charges every 1st of the month).

in this chapter…

meet Mirai, who, honestly, is a pain in the ass

learn more about the ros’ backgrounds and struggles

enter some dangerous situations, including one where you can be in close proximity to your chosen ro

use those fight or flight instincts

make some crucial choices…

thanks for sticking by me everyone <3

Would anyone be interested in a Twitch stream Friday?

If so, what times work best for people? Would you rather see a beginner Twine/IF tutorial or more in-depth UI design/coding? (I may experiment more with writing streams in the future, but for now I think coding/tutorial focused stuff works better for streaming)

There’s something truly exquisite about stories where the real tragedy is the price you paid to stand on top of the world

Hi there! I absolutely ADORED your demo omg you cannot believe. Khari is the love of my life just saying...fdjsklaf anyway what are some of your favourite IF's? Completed or otherwise, anything from paid released games, itch.io games, stuff from choicescript etc. :D

hello! <3

first of all -- THANK YOU for the kind words, and welcome to the Khari fan club, we have cookies and carrots <3

as for my favorite IFs; okay this will be a long list so brace yourself! (and I do apologise to all authors for the spam)

Most of those are demos or in development, but nevertheless they are all amazing and I replay them way too often;

Sinners (demo) by @olivewrites-if / @sinners-if - you get to romance a villain, I feel like this is enough to get most people hooked (demo)

Honor Among Thieves (demo) by @leoneliterary - fantasy with some romance and intrigue, and as I am a fan of anything that has guilds (Skyrim w/ thieves guild, Assassin's Creed and the sort) I just love this one

Superstition S1 & S2 (finished) by @13leaguestories - supernatural, found family, powers, romance, angels, demons, hunting; what more to want?

Throne of Ashes (demo) by @13leaguestories - fantasy (but with pretty mature themes), romance; there are houses (MC is from House of Phoenix) and each character is just chefs kiss imo

Unwilling Souls (demo) by @unwilling-souls-if - angels!!!! but they are not your typical "angels"!!!! and there's lots of angst, and it's just awesome

Defiled Hearts: The Barbarian (demo) by @defiledheartsblog - dark historical fiction, romance, some fantasy elements; personally I replayed it 3 times in a row and was never bored once and that says something since my attention span is like 5 minutes at best

Supernatural in New York (demo) by @llamagirl28 - lighthearted urban fantasy with romance; think Supernatural if it was actually good and diverse, it scratches my adhd brain in just the right way, and the characters are amazing

The Bastard of Camelot (demo) by @llamagirl28 - I replayed it 8 times, no joke, and I still love it and it's my comfort IF I'd say; I love the story, the characters, customisation, and the idea behind it all.

The King's Hound (demo) by @kal-down / @the-kingshound - I am a sucker for Arthurian Legends, and I'm a sucker for fantasy and historical fiction in general, and it's written so well I want to cry every time I replay it

The Abyssal (demo) by @theabyssal - you get to play as Death what more can someone want??? and it gives me god of war / mythologies vibes, so I of course replayed it over 10 times.

Water to Blood (demo) by @veirsewrites - vampire MC who owns a nightclub, I'm sorry but this is all I needed to be obsessed. it reminds me of the show Lucifer, but it's also so unique that I happily replay it all the time.

Blood Moon (demo) by @barbwritesstuff - werewolves. that's all. that's the tweet.

Absentia (demo) by @absentia-if - I'm a sucker for crime stories, and this had me hooked from the start, and I love how complex each character is.

Exile (demo) by @exilethegame - dark fantasy with pretty mature and violent themes; replayed it so many times I'm ashamed to admit the actual number.

A Mage Reborn (demo) by @mage-parivir - I've been replaying it religiously since November of 2021 so yeah, I'm obsessed, and not even sorry. Fantasy games are my jam.

Speaker (demo) by @speakergame - one of the first IFs I played I think, and I still adore it to bits; it's written so well, and I adore the detective-supernatural vibes.

Ballad of the Judgement of Night (demo) by @nikkefort-dev - it was one of first 5 IFs I ever played, and I can safely say it's one of my absolute favorites; I adore the themes of angels/demons and 'fallen ones'.

Citadel (demo) by @bouncyballcitadel - medical drama; didn't know I liked medical dramas but now I do, and I'm in love with this IF in its entirety. also made me realise I'm gayer than I thought.

Villain's Promise (demo) by @villains-promise - fantasy with romance and betrayal, that's all I need for my soul. also in the first 5 IFs I ever played, and still love it.

Wolfwater (demo) by @carrs-universe-if - first IF I ever played, got me into IFs, and I love it to bits. Psychological thriller/body horror with some supernatural themes.

The Ballad of Devil's Creek (demo) by @devilscreekballad - western with romance and angst, and unlike all westerns it's actually diverse and inclusive so of course I love it.

Larkin (demo) by @larkin-if - vampires, hunters, and general Midnight Mass vibes; I'm here for it.

These Crimson Strings (demo) by @thesecrimsonstrings-if - MC is an ancient vampire who meets their long lost (dead) soulmate reborn as someone 'new'; the angst is amazing.

A Tale of Crowns (demo) by @ataleofcrowns - no joke replayed it over 10 times, loved it every single one of them. Fantasy with some court intrigue and amazing companions.

I have more but the list is already so long, I don't want this to be dismissed/blocked as a bot message or something kjfhfd

Welcome to The Rosebush

Welcome! We’re very happy to announce the preliminary launch of The Rosebush, a new online magazine for interactive fiction theory and criticism. The purpose of this preliminary launch is to let the interactive fiction community know that we exist, and to invite submissions. We hope to begin publishing early this summer, perhaps in June.

Learn more below, or you can also read this post on our website.

What is The Rosebush?

The Rosebush will be a free online magazine dedicated to publishing longer form articles about interactive fiction. The interactive fiction community already has well-established channels for reviews of individual games, and several people have well-read blogs, but we’ve been lacking a good platform for in-depth analyses, theory articles, discussions of craft, interviews, historical pieces, and so on. The Rosebush aims to be this platform. It will publish substantial articles that increase our understanding of interactive fiction, from individual works to design patterns, community structures and historical trends. The intended audience consists of both players and authors of IF.

What is the scope of the magazine?

Interactive fiction is a term with many uses. The focus of The Rosebush lies on digital works in which a player interacts with a pre-written story where text is the main medium. In particular, The Rosebush will publish about both parser-based and choice-based interactive fiction. While tabletop role playing games, computer role playing games, visual novels, and choose-your-own-adventure books are also interactive fictions in a sense of that term, they are not our primary topic.

Most of the organisers of The Rosebush come from the communities around the Interactive Fiction Competition, the Spring Thing, the IFDB, and so on; but we explicitly also intend to publish about the works of adjacent communities, such as the ChoiceScript community and the retro text adventure community.

What is the magazine looking for?

Articles! See the submissions page for the detailed call for articles. It is possible to either submit a pitch, which we will check to see whether the topic is suitable for The Rosebush, or an article. Links to submission forms can also be found on the submissions page.

What does The Rosebush offer authors?

Most importantly, a place for disseminating your articles. The Rosebush will maintain its website and ensure that all articles are also stored on the IF Archive, the best guarantee for perpetual availability in the current world of interactive fiction. In addition, the editorial team will work with you on your article, which can range from simple spelling/grammar editing to more substantial ideas and feedback on improving your piece.

The Rosebush is an entirely volunteer effort. There are no plans to offer a monetary compensation to authors of articles.

Who are we?

The editorial team currently consists of:

Aster Fialla (se/er)

Benjamin Slade (he/they)

Daniel Stelzer (they/them)

Drew Cook (he/him)

Josh Grams (he/him)

Kiana Lee (she/her)

What Happens:

What Happens:

Get some one on one time with Vanessa and Charlie, chat with Theo or Izzie, potentially have a sneaky kiss with someone else, watch a budding relationship fall apart (maybe yours does, too) and have time with your partner before bed.

Word Count:

Total of 175k words (+38k words), the longest twine chapter yet - I was hoping there would be a bit more content, but the chapter ended up being a bit of a monster as it was.

Game Summary:

Welcome to Summer of Love. You and nine other singles will enter a luxury villa and couple up, spending a month in each other’s company, along with a few extras along the way – you’ll live together, eat together, sleep together, and hopefully, fall in love together. Sound familiar? Thought so – but instead of coupling ceremonies being split by boys and girls as is typical in shows like these, the public will be the ones deciding the order of who gets to pick, and as the cast is an all-bi one, you can pick whoever you like, so long as they haven’t already been picked. At the end of the month, the most popular couple could win as much as £500,000, depending on what challenges you win or lose and how well you win over the public. As for the other couples? As there are no dumpings, everyone has the potential to find love, and those in exclusive relationships by the end could also win as much as £100,000 per couple. So, how much you win is entirely down to you. Ready for your summer of love to begin?
