"In order for me to write poetry that isn't political, I must listen
to the birds and in order to hear the birds the warplanes must be silent" poem by Marwan Makhoul
Oh rascal children of Gaza.
You who constantly disturbed me
with you screams under my window.
You who filled every morning
with rush and chaos.
You who broke my vase
and stole the lonely flower on my balcony.
Come back,
and scream as you want
and break all the vases.
Steal all the flowers.
Come back.
Just come back."

A poem by Khaled Juma
"I wish children didn't die.
I wish they would be temporarily elevated to the skies until the war ends.

Then they would return home safe and when their parents would ask them: "where were you?", they would say "we were playing in the clouds".

A poem by Ghassan Fayiz Kanafani
"You may fasten my chains
Deprive me of my books and tobacco
You may fill my mouth with earth
Poetry will feed my heart, like blood
It is salt to the bread
And liquid to the eye
I will write it with nails, eye-sockets, daggers
I will recite it in my prison cell -
In the bathroom -
In the stable -
Under the whip -
Under the chains -
In spite of my handcuffs
I have a million nightingales
On the branches of my heart
Singing the song of liberation."

A poem by Mahmoud Darwish: 'Defiance'

"Here are your tortured poets. All from Mahmoud Darwish to Dr. Refat Alareer to Khaled Juma, these are tortured poets. Tortured by longing for a home they can never return to, tortured by the world they were born to for BEING BORN. Palestine, home to the tortured poets department." [@/folkoftheshelf on X. sometimes I wonder why y'all are obsessed with specific characters and I'm like "why them" but then I remember that sometimes its literally not your choice you just look at them wrong and all of a sudden they're taking up your every thought forever

if the condition of the children of gaza doesn't move you, i don't know what will. there is no school this year. there was no school last year either. no clean water or healthy food. no medicines for when they hurt themselves. no toys to play with. no way for them to come out of this genocide unscathed. it's with a heavy heart that i've realized that childhood in gaza is an empty promise.

my friend alaa [ @alaakh998 ] lives in gaza. she has two little kids aged 4 and 6. i cannot help but think about them. how are they doing? what lies in their future? are they okay? I've come to the realization that they wont be safe unless they're able to evacuate from gaza.

the rafah crossing is closed as of now. alaa is fundraising in hopes that she can collect enough money to address her immediate needs and eventually evacuate when the crossing opens. she needs to buy a tent and medicine and supplies and food.

please donate to help her buy these things and ensure her children's well being.

hi everyone, mahmoud (@hillesmahmoud) has reached out to me and asked me to share his story with you all. mahmoud has been living as a refugee in belgium for 7 years. this, unfortunately, means that he has been separated from his wife and four beautiful children for this long, even missing the birth of his youngest child. additionally, his wife suffers from kidney issues and had to have her left kidney removed before the war.

Hi Everyone, Mahmoud (@hillesmahmoud) Has Reached Out To Me And Asked Me To Share His Story With You
Hi Everyone, Mahmoud (@hillesmahmoud) Has Reached Out To Me And Asked Me To Share His Story With You

now, his wife and children have been enduring genocide for 11 months without him. he is forced to worry every day for the safety and of his family who he hasn't seen in years from thousands of miles away. in addition, his wife has been suffering due a lack of medical infrastructure due to her need for treatment for her kidney. mahmoud is haunted by the possibility of her succumbing to her illness and leaving his children orphaned and displaced.

as of september 4th, €24,988 / €37,000 has been raised to evacuate mahmoud's family to egypt and fund treatment for his wife. additionally, his fundraiser is verified by nabulsi here. any amount you're able to donate, even just €5, makes a difference. if you're unable to donate, please reblog or otherwise share mahmoud's story and fundraiser so that he may see a day where he and his family are safely and happily reunited.

blooranje - Wednesday's child is full of Woah~

Guys I desperately need help with something.

For context, my best friend’s birthday is this Thursday, and I want to make him a birthday card. I know what he likes, I just don’t know shit about it. He likes Scott Pilgrim. Loves it in fact. Especially the comics and the tv series. I’ve watched the movie and that’s about the extent of my knowledge. If anyone has any ideas for a scott pilgrim themed birthday card I would appreciate that so much πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

The war will end, the leaders will shake hands, and that old woman will remain waiting for her martyred son, that girl will wait for her beloved husband, and those children will wait for their heroic father. I do not know who sold out the homeland, but I have seen who paid the price.πŸ’”πŸ™
