"In most cases, there is chronic diarrhoea, there is respiratory illness because malnutrition essentially causes weak immunity," [Ahmed Nasser] explains. "These symptoms appeared after five months of war and exacerbated over time." (source)
Malnutrition is associated with:
Severe complications for pregnant women & newborns
Higher risk of frequent illness and more severe illness in both children & adults, slow deaths complicated by dehydration (due to diarrhea) & muscle wasting
The combination of starvation, dehydration, & infection can be deadly to anyone, but the effects on children under 5 (especially newborns) is catastrophic.
None of these can be dealt with in Gaza right now: the healthcare system is on the edge of collapse. Lack of clean water, sanitation, and overcrowding is making the situation worse.
Samah is the doting mother to 3 children: two girls (aged 2 and 9), and a 6 month old baby boy, who was born in a field hospital in incredibly difficult circumstances. All he's known in his short life is scarcity & danger. Like his sisters, he's been fighting repeated respiratory infections and with winter here, Samah is terrified for them. The continued siege & destruction in Gaza has made basic essentials (i.e., baby formula & fresh food, clean water, diapers, warmer clothing) incredibly expensive. Samah & her family are totally reliant on donations just to survive, but they're still very low on funds. These basics are simple solutions to help the kids avoid getting sick, becoming severely malnourished, or having to deal with the complications of either.
So: please share & please donate !

“What other people think and say about you is none of your business. The most destructive thing you would ever do is to believe someone else’s opinion of you. You have to stop letting other people’s opinions control you.”

Help Mohamed and His Family Escape Gaza for a Safe Future ❤️🩹🍉
Dear Friends,
I am Mohamed Nabeel Alanqar from Gaza 🇵🇸, married to Aya, and we have three children: Nabeel (7 years old), Amir (4 years old), and Lami (10 years old). We once lived a hopeful and ambitious life, working tirelessly to secure a bright future for our children.
I worked alongside my father and brothers in our family business, manufacturing aluminum windows, which was our primary source of income. 🌟
However, the relentless conditions in Gaza have left us with no space for stability. Our home has suffered partial damage, and our apartments have been severely affected.
We have been forced to relocate multiple times from northern Gaza, where we live, to the south due to ongoing evacuations. These repeated moves have left us in a constant state of uncertainty and intensified our struggles. 🏠💔
My wife, Aya, is under immense psychological strain as she strives to keep our children’s lives stable amid these harsh conditions. Our children have fallen ill due to the deteriorating health and environmental conditions, and we are deeply concerned for their well-being and future. Their education is also at risk because of the severe economic difficulties we face. 😔👶
We are launching this campaign to secure a safe and stable future for our family.
We desperately need financial support to cover living expenses, provide essential medical care for our children, and ensure their education. Additionally, we are contemplating traveling through the Rafah border in search of safety and stability abroad. This journey involves significant costs for travel, accommodation, and establishing a new environment where we can rebuild our lives. 🌍💼
The emotional and physical toll on our family has been immense. Each day, we grapple with the fear of what tomorrow might bring, and the uncertainty of our children’s future weighs heavily on us. Your support can help lift this burden and provide us with a glimmer of hope. 💖
Your immediate support is crucial to help us achieve this goal. Every donation, no matter the amount, can make a profound difference in helping us overcome this crisis and start anew in a safe place. Your generosity will not only help us escape our current reality but will also restore our hope for a better tomorrow. 🙏✨
In this pivotal moment, we hope you will stand with us, offering your support so we can fulfill our dream of a dignified and stable life. Your compassion and solidarity are the sources of strength and hope that keep us moving forward. 🌟
With heartfelt thanks and gratitude,❤️🍉

entropyalarm said: When describing embarrassment, blushing is typically used as an indicator. I’m white, but I recognize that darker skin tones shouldn’t show blush the same way as lighter tones. My friend, with medium skin, told me it only shows in her nose and ears, felt more as intense heat radiating from her cheeks than a visible color change. What is your insight on handling blushing? I feel this is especially important for proper portrayal of PoCs in romantic situations.
Anonymous said: You’ve written some great advice for describing black characters, but I was wondering whether you have any advice for describing a black character blushing? I have face blindness, so I’m having a lot of trouble with this. (otherwise I could just look up pictures and describe those) So sorry to bother you!
I’m glad you’ve asked. It bothers me how often I’ve heard “Black people don’t blush” which only seems to be another way to dehumanize Black people (and defeminize Black women) for not possessing this base human reaction, even if it’s not always notably visible.
Everybody blushes. Or rather, can blush. It’s the physical act of blood rushing to the face, ears, and other areas of the body; how visible the output doesn’t dictate whether one blushes or not.
While fairness has its part, I think blushing and how visible it is has a lot to do with the individual (some folks have better blood flow) + the undertones within their skin.
I’m going to steal my undertones chart from the Skin Tone Guide here:
As shown above cool skin colors have undertones that mostly fall under red/pink shades.
I’ve seen dark cool-skinned people with naturally rosy cheeks. I can only imagine when they blush, those reddish undertones are emphasized or brightened.
On the other hand, warm skin is usually in the golden, orange spectrum. Not so much reds. Still that doesn’t mean red coloring doesn’t appear on dark warm skin tones.
I have warm medium skin with golden orange undertones, and I definitely get flushed from extrinsic factors, such as if I exercise hard (I turn a berry-red coloring), plus the winter cold pinkens my nose like Rudolph.
I’ve also had friends call me out on blushing, but I can’t tell you exactly how that looks for I’ve never checked a mirror at the time, though I imagine it’s like a slight tinting or an enrichment of the undertones in the skin, brightening them, paired with a “coral to dark red” reddening.
In general, though, it can be redundant to constantly refer to blushing to show shyness or embarrassment with characters of any skin tone. It seems blushing is one of those things that happen more often in stories than daily life. Kinda like green eyes.
For variety, also consider these indicators:
~Pages from the Emotion Thesaurus, seriously every writer should buy this book 10/10 would recommend.~
To reiterate; dark (cool) skin with red/pink undertones might show blushing more notably than warm skin, as an enhancement of those reddish undertones.
Dark (warm) skin without red undertones, more “richening” of the undertones with pink to dark reddish coloring as an influence, likely depending on how harshly they’re blushing.
In any case; if you’re describing the blushing from the character’s perspective, it makes more sense to focus on heat and sensation.
Followers, any personal experiences or thoughts?

Messaging people for the first time is so hard. What am I supposed to say? Like, "You seem really odd and your blog intrigues me. Do you want to have philosophical conversations or perhaps talk about fictional characters?" What! Whatever. I will just follow you back and stare at your blog with my big beautiful brown eyes.
it came to my realization that 99% of my fandom related headaches would be cured if everyone understood this
My heart breaks whenever I think of the fact that evacuation funds are at the bottom of a very long list of things Palestinians have to deal with once they do actually escape. Then it’s finding somewhere to live, then it’s finding a way to sustain themselves, then it’s dealing with the impossible weight that comes in the wake of surviving a genocide… it’s literally all so beyond our comprehension. I truly, genuinely cannot compute how some people are going through such insurmountable amounts of grief and suffering. Helping Palestinians reach the fundraisers is—literally—the least we can do.
People now in gaza strip are facing the danger of hunger again and displaced since the occupation invaded rafah please can you help this family is for my cousin they need money to survive in gaza to buy food and water since everything is so expensive
And my cousin family are close to me if you can't donate share it
