Fandometrics In Depth: K-Pop

The K-pop fandom on Tumblr cannot be messed with. The love for K-pop is so off the charts, it’s the only music genre that exists as its own Fandometrics list. To celebrate the genre and its ultra-passionate community, we analyzed all the tags from January 1st, 2017 through August 16th, 2017 to determine the most talked about groups, idols, and ships. Fighting!

If you’ve been following along since we introduced the K-pop list on May 1st, 2017, you know that BTS has been No. 1 since the very beginning. Furthermore, #BTS was the eighth highest trending tag on all of Tumblr during this six month period. That’s more popular than any TV show, film, or video game. The next highest trending K-pop-related term was #bangtan, at No. 17.

The current state of K-pop

Though our weekly list is made up of both solo artists and groups, we focused solely on the bands for this In Depth (but we see you, G-Dragon 👀).

During this 228 day period, these 30 groups garnered a combined 200 million engagements. We noticed that boy groups are more popular, nabbing 90% of the conversation. K.A.R.D represents the only co-ed group on the list. The full list below:

Sweet pea loves touching you, having his hands on your beautiful body. In fact he is pretty much always touching you. Not necessarily even in a sexual way, but just holding you close.

When you’re walking side by side your fingers are linked together. Or he has his arm thrown over your shoulder. Or maybe his hand is resting on the small of your back. Sometimes his hand is on your ass.

When you’re sitting next to each other his hand is on your thigh, his thumb making circles. But often you just straight up sit in his lap. He loves that. He loves having the love of his life as close as possible to him. He has his hands around your waist keeping you close. Sometimes he’d pull you in a big hug and keep you there.

When you’re cuddling face to face his finger always draws figures on your back. Your noses brushing agains each other, making you giggle. That’s his favorite sound in the whole entire world. It always makes him smile.

If you’re cuddling back to chest he has both of his hands around you. Sometimes they create a full circle pulling you to him. Other times one of his hands is resting on your boob. You don’t mind either way. You love how lovingly he holds you.

When you’re in class you rest your head against his shoulder. He tries his best not to move so you’re as comfortable as you deserve to be. When you’re actually working at least your legs are touching each other. His hand finding its way to where it wants to be the most, resting on your thigh.

When you’re just chilling at home on the couch your legs create a messy tangle. Or he’s playing with your hair. Sometimes you’re even holding hands like this.

When you two are standing he’s always behind you and he has his arms around your waist. He’s so tall that it’s perfect. If he’s not standing behind you he has his arm over you, you leaning against him. Which makes him so happy. It makes him feel like you trust him enough to lean on him during difficult times. It’s symbolic.

When you’re eating at pop’s and you sit on the opposite sides of the table, you stretch your legs to have them sit in between his crossed ones. But usually you’re next to each other. That’s when your leg is thrown over his, resting on his knee. He wouldn’t have it any other way. He loves it so much. You two always find a way to be close.

When having sex he always has both of his hands on you. Never just one, always both. One holding the back of your thigh and one holding your hands over your head. Or one cupping your boob and one on your waist, his nails digging in.

When you two are riding his motorcycle you have your arms around his waist, sitting as close to him as you can. That’s everything he’s ever wanted.

When you are doing something where you can’t be touching, you still find a way to be close to each other. Or maybe he just finds a way to be close to you. He’s not sure anymore, but he is sure that being close to you is the best for him. You make him want to be better.

When you aren’t spending time together, he’s with fangs, or doing some serpent business, or you’re having girl time with toni, he can’t wait for the night, to be able to fall asleep with you laying next to him, close enough for him to smell your shampoo.

He’s scared that if he let’s go of you you’ll leave. He’s scared of having to let go of the one person who made him happy again. Who made him believe in love again. Who made him feel good about himself. He’s scared of what would happen to him if you ever left. So he tries to hold you as close as possible as much as possible, in case you ever do have to say goodbye. He loves you so much.
