Words: 1,127 Summary: Logan and his girlfriend like PDA.
Masterlist | Support Me!
Alex watches as Logan, his new teammate, kisses his girlfriend, one of his hands that had been resting on her waist drifting down to her ass, before sliding into the pocket there and giving a squeeze and he can feel himself nearly choke on his drink. “Fuck,” he coughs and he can feel George slam his hand on his back once then twice.
“Alright, mate?” He nods, giving another cough before clearing his throat. “Yeah, just watching the rookie feel up his girlfriend.” He watches as George’s eyebrows furrow as he looks over at Oscar who’s sitting at the next table. “Other rookie.” George looks over at where he had and his eyes widen. “Jesus. They do know that they’re in public and we’re all here right?” He looks back over and face twists. They weren’t kissing anymore, but Logan’s hand was still in her one back pocket and his mouth is practically glued to her ear as he whispers something with a smile that Alex doesn’t think he likes one bit and dread for the rest of the season starts to fill him.
They both look away at the sound of Oscar’s voice. “They know.” “What?” Oscar tilts his head over to where Logan is and now the rest of the drivers that had decided to all go out together are looking at the couple. “They know they’re in public. I’ve known Logan for a couple years now. They’re always like this.” “Always?” Alex is hoping that Oscar is fucking with him, joking with him. “Always. They’ve been together like two years now?” He shrugs, “We all thought at Prema it was just the honeymoon stage.” Alex turns to look at George, horror in his eyes. “I don’t think I can do this.” “It’s just a bit of kissing, mate. You’ll be fine.” George pats him on the shoulder and he can see from the corner of his eye Max silently laughing. “She’s going to be traveling with us. Coming to all the races.” George’s hand drops. “Well, your fucked then.” Alex groans, dropping his head on the table with a loud thunk.
“You know, I think I like the american. He broke Alex.” Max says, chuckling and Alex is grateful when he hears the dutch driver let out an oomf. “Thank you, Charles.” “No problem. Though I do think it’s a bit funny.” Alex groans, letting his head drop back down when he had just started to lift it up.
“Seriously?” Charles shrugs, “I don’t understand why there is a problem. So they don’t uh, hold back in public. It is not like they are fucking. It is just a bit of kissing.” He then looks back at the couple and shrugs again. “And ass grabbing. Could be much worse.” Alex lets out a groan when the rest of the drivers make agreeing sounds.
“What’s wrong with Alex?” Is the next thing that he hears and immediately groans again at the American accent.

Logan was aware that most people didn’t like seeing him and his girlfriend together. Not because they didn’t like her or him or them together, it was more how they acted. Which Logan was absolutely unashamed about. If he wanted to kiss his girlfriend he was going to. If he wanted her in his lap, she’d be there. It didn’t matter how many fake gags his or her friends made or that time he got told off by Prema’s PR team to lay off because what if the press picked up on it?
The memory nearly made him scoff. Drivers got a bad reputation. If they weren’t knowing for fucking anything that walked, one night stands only, they seemed to be know for cheating on their partners. If not by press and fans than at least by other drivers and the like. Logan still struggled a bit with that part of being a driver. The way you’d see a fellow driver fuck someone and then a day later be bringing their partner around the paddock.
He would’ve figured that they’d be thrilled with a driver so into his girlfriend that he literally couldn’t keep his hands off her. Meant they had one less driver to worry about with a cheating scandal.
“It’s the european.” His girlfriend had said when he told her about it and the response had made him laugh in the moment, but he did wonder if there was some truth to it.
“You alright?” Her breath ghosts over the shell of his ear and he squeezes her hip. “I’m all good, baby.” He grins at her. “Just wondering when Williams is going to give me the talk.” She laughs and he can see Lando look over at them. “Any day probably.” “Probably.” He chuckles. He was surprised that after the first race he hadn’t gotten it. Didn’t mean he didn’t think it was going to happen.
Tilting his head up, he puckers his lips a bit and she immediately kisses him. His grip on her hip tightens when she pokes her tongue out teasingly, wishing that she wasn’t sitting on his lap sideways, but straddling him.
He’s about to move her into straddling him when Lando drops into the seat next to them. So he settles for pressing another kiss to her lips before turning his attention to the slightly older driver.
“You all good, man?” Logan’s grin widens at the way Lando’s nose wrinkles at the word man. Him and the other brits all acted the same way when he said it instead of mate. “Yeah, just thought I’d come over, get to know your girlfriend a bit since apparently she’ll be traveling with us.” His voice goes slightly at the end, clearly wondering if it was true. He nods, “yeah. Finally got her to quit that job of hers,” he starts to tease, laughing when she hits him gently on the chest. Lando looked at the two with wide eyes. “I did not quit my job for you.” She says to him before looking at Lando with a sorry expression. “Ignore, Logan.” He pouts a little at that, but keeps quiet. Not minding her taking over the conversation. He traces her name on her hip as she says it to Lando, before repeating her statement.
“I didn’t quit my job for Logan.” He snorts, but other than that, keeps quiet. “I quit my job so I could go full time with graphic design.” The other driver perks up a bit. “Graphic design, really?” “Yeah, I’ve been doing it for the past like five years.”
He somewhat tunes the two out as they start talking more about graphic design. Only really paying attention to her voice and the cadence of it, as he closes his eyes and relaxes.

After the summer break, things between her and Charles shift in subtle but undeniable ways. He goes back to racing, and she falls into a comfortable rhythm at home, taking care of Leo and focusing on work. But her world feels fuller now, punctuated by unexpected calls, invitations, and little gestures that keep her close to the Leclercs, even when Charles is away.
It starts with Pascale, who invites her over one afternoon for coffee. It’s warm and welcoming, the kind of invitation that makes her feel like she’s known Pascale forever. “Come, sit down, ma belle,” Pascale says, guiding her to a cozy seat in the kitchen. She fusses over her with warmth that feels so genuine it makes her chest ache.
“You know, it’s ridiculous that Charles hasn’t introduced us sooner,” Pascale chides, shaking her head. “I told him, ‘If you’re serious about someone, we should meet her, no?’”
She feels her cheeks warm but laughs it off. “Oh, I don’t know if you’d call it serious. We’re just…”
Pascale waves a hand, dismissing her words. “Please, I’ve seen the way he talks about you. We know when it’s serious.” She pours coffee into a delicate cup and hands it to her, a mischievous glint in her eye. “Plus, the way he sulks when you’re at work—he’s like a lost puppy. We tease him for it!”
And just like that, Pascale has her laughing and sharing stories, making her feel like part of the family. Before she knows it, these coffee dates turn into a regular thing, and Pascale even insists on cutting her hair, brushing away her protests with a gentle but firm hand. They chat and laugh, talking about everything from family to work, and she leaves every time feeling a bit more like she belongs.
Then there’s Charlotte. One day, she calls, suggesting a girls’ day out, just the two of them. They roam the city, stopping at boutiques and trying on sunglasses, gossiping and laughing over coffee like old friends. Charlotte is sharp, witty, and fun, making her feel completely at ease.
“So, you’ve really got Charles wrapped around your finger, huh?” Charlotte teases as they browse the racks of a boutique. “I don’t think I’ve seen him this smitten since… well, ever.”
She rolls her eyes, brushing off the comment with a laugh. “Smitten? He’s just… we’re just friends.”
“Right,” Charlotte says with a knowing smile. “And I’m just the Queen of England.”
Then there’s Arthur. They start chatting more, mostly joking around after he realizes she’s following his races, and she finds herself quickly warming to him. Arthur is loud, playful, and full of life, and they click almost instantly. They trade inside jokes, and after a particularly hard race, he texts her sounding completely drained.
Arthur: "Rough night. I don’t think I’m cut out for this sometimes."
You: "Hey, that’s not true. You’re amazing — you know that, right?"
Arthur: "Maybe. But sometimes it’s hard to remember. Everything feels stacked against me."
So she called him, letting him vent as he rambled about the pressures of racing, the constant comparisons to Charles, and the weight he carried. She offered gentle reassurances, reminding him of his strengths and how far he’d come.
At one point, she said softly, “Arthur, you’re going to be incredible. I know it. And you know Charles would be the first to say that too.”
After a pause, he replied, a little more lighthearted, “You know, you’re like the family therapist at this point.”
She laughed. “Guess I’m putting in overtime then.”
By the end of the call, he sounded much better, his spirits lifted, and they both promised to catch up in person soon.
But it’s when Charles is back in town that things really start to feel different. He’s even clingier than before, draping himself over her whenever he’s home, complaining dramatically about his “stolen” family.
“Honestly, I go away for two weeks, and suddenly, you’re maman’s new favorite?” he grumbles one night, leaning his head on her shoulder as they lounge on his couch. “Arthur calls you more than he calls me, you know.”
She laughs, nudging him playfully. “Oh, come on, it’s not like they’ve replaced you. Besides, you’re the one who left me with your family!”
“Yeah, but they’re my family,” he insists with a pout, his eyes gleaming with that familiar spark of mischief. “Honestly, you’re all I think about when I’m away, and then I come back, and I have to share you with everyone else? Unacceptable.”
“You poor thing,” she says mockingly, patting his cheek. “Must be so hard for you, having people who love you.”
Charles grins, leaning closer until his face is just inches from hers. “Oh, it is. I think you should make it up to me.”
The way he says it makes her heart race, and they end up tangled together until she can’t think straight. One thing leads to another, and the next morning, she playfully grumbles about needing to go back to her apartment to grab fresh clothes.
“Honestly, Charles, I swear you’ve destroyed half my wardrobe at this point,” she teased, reaching for her phone. “I don’t think I have any underwear left.”
Charles smirked from where he leaned against the doorway, still looking far too pleased with himself. “Check the top drawer of my wardrobe.”
She raised an eyebrow, giving him a curious look. “What?”
“Go on, take a look.”
Confused but intrigued, she opened the drawer, her eyes widening as she took in the sight: a stack of her clothes, neatly folded. T-shirts, a couple of sweaters, even some underwear — and her favorite bra. She gasped, lifting it up and shooting him an accusing look.
“Charles! You kept my favorite bra?”
He shrugged nonchalantly. “You leave things here all the time anyway, so I just… organized. It’s more practical this way. Now you don’t have to go all the way home every time.”
She couldn’t help the grin that spread across her face. “You made me a drawer?”
“Of course,” he said, walking up to her and wrapping his arms around her waist. “Gotta make sure my friend is comfortable.”
She rolled her eyes, feeling warmth spread through her chest. “If this is just friendship, Charles, I’d hate to see you with someone you actually care about.”
He chuckled, tilting her chin up and pressing a soft kiss to her lips. “I’d just be even worse,” he murmured, eyes sparkling.
The words, though playful, lingered with her. The closeness, the drawer, his mother’s invitations — they all hinted at something deeper than what they’d agreed on. But every time she’d try to piece together her thoughts, he’d pull her back in, and she’d find herself giving in, trying not to read into every little sign.
As things grew deeper, she found herself wrestling with her feelings more and more, unsure of where she stood. Despite the time spent together, despite the way his family had practically adopted her, she kept reminding herself that they were just friends. That’s all they’d agreed on, after all.
But Charles’s actions often left her wondering. The drawer, the constant calls, the way he made sure to always check in on her… it felt like more. And yet, whenever she started thinking like that, he’d casually brush it off with a laugh, leaving her both hopeful and hesitant.
One morning, just as he was heading out for another meeting, he casually mentioned, “Oh, by the way, Charlotte called. She wants to meet up with you tomorrow.”
She raised an eyebrow, caught off guard. “Oh? For what?”
He shrugged, buttoning up his jacket with that effortless confidence he had. “Wedding stuff, I think? She said she needed your help picking some things out.”
She blinked, surprised. “Wedding stuff? Isn’t that more… you know, family stuff?”
Charles glanced at her, looking amused by her confusion. “Exactly. That’s why she wants you there.”
Her heart stuttered, the implications of his words hitting her harder than she expected. She stood there, watching him as he finished getting ready, too shocked to find the words. Did he even realize what he’d just implied? Did he know what that invitation meant?
Unbothered by her inner turmoil, he leaned down to kiss her on the forehead. “Don’t overthink it,” he said softly, his eyes crinkling with a familiar warmth. “I’ll be back early tonight.”
And with that, he was out the door, leaving her standing there, the weight of her growing feelings settling over her like a heavy blanket.
In the silence that followed, she let out a shaky breath, her thoughts spiraling. Somewhere along the way, she’d crossed an invisible line — a line she couldn’t pretend didn’t exist anymore. She was in too deep, and for the first time, she wasn’t sure if she could keep up the pretense.

The paddock was alive with a low hum of tension and excitement, the air saturated with the distinct scent of burning rubber and gasoline.
You had been here before, in different categories as a rising talent in the motorsport world, but Formula 1 was a whole new arena. Walking through the Red Bull Racing garage you felt the weight of the world pressing down on you. This wasn’t just a race, it was your first F1 race weekend, and to top it off your teammate was none other than Max Verstappen, the reigning World Champion.
Max's reputation preceded him. The fierce competitor, a driver with an almost inhuman ability to push his car beyond the limits, appearing to be in a league of his own. Now he was your teammate or, more realistically, you were his teammate. It was his team, his title on the line, and you were just the rookie fresh to the team and to some extent an uninvited guest in his house.
As you stepped into the garage you caught a glimpse of Max. He was sitting with his usual air of intense concentration, eyes fixed on the telemetry data on his tablet as if he could solve every on-track issue with sheer force of will. His dirty blonde hair peeked out from under his cap. For a moment your eyes met, and a flicker of something passed between you. It wasn’t friendly. A short, curt nod was all he gave you before returning to his data, as if you were a distraction not worth his time.
You took a deep breath, trying to shake off the nerves gnawing at your insides. No one said this would be easy. Max was a World Champion, he didn’t have time for rookies.
Your debut race weekend came at you fast, a blur of press conferences, strategy meetings, and practice sessions. The eyes of the motorsport world were on you, and the pressure was immense. You had qualified a respectable eighth, but Max was on pole. It wasn’t just a gap in pace — it was a chasm. Still, for your first race it wasn’t bad, or at least that’s what you kept telling yourself.
Sunday, and the garage was bustling with energy, staff buzzing around like a well-oiled machine. Everyone knew their place. Everyone except you it seemed.
You were sitting in the team motorhome, staring at your race strategy when Max finally broke the silence between you.
“Nervous?” he asked, though the way he phrased it didn’t leave much room for a simple yes or no. His tone was casual, but his gaze remained laser-focused, almost challenging.
You looked up from your tablet, startled. He hadn’t said more than a few words to you all weekend. “Not particularly,” you replied, keeping your voice even.
Max’s lips quirked into a smirk, but there was no warmth in it. “Good. Nervous drivers make mistakes.”
You raised an eyebrow, unsure if this was advice or a thinly veiled insult. “I’ve been racing a long time Max.”
“This isn’t F2,” he replied smoothly.
“I know how to drive,” you shot back, feeling a flicker of irritation rise up inside you.
Max studied you for a moment as if weighing his next words carefully. “Sure. Just don't get in my way.”
And with that he stood up, grabbing his helmet and walking out of the motorhome without another word. You watched him go, your jaw clenched. He was right this wasn’t F2, but you weren’t going to let him dismiss you like someone who didn’t belong here.
The race itself was brutal. Max dominated from start to finish, winning with the same ruthless efficiency that had earned him the title. Meanwhile, you struggled. The car felt unbalanced, the tyres didn’t last as long as you’d hoped, and you made a few rookie mistakes costing you valuable positions. You finished with just one measly point, a disheartening tenth place.
As you walked back into the garage, still buzzing with the adrenaline of the race you could feel the weight of everyone’s eyes on you. Max was already there sitting with his engineers discussing his race. He didn’t acknowledge you, didn’t even glance in your direction.
You slumped into your chair, exhausted and frustrated. Everyone tried to cheer you up telling you it was a good effort for your first race, but the disappointment gnawed at you. You didn’t come here to finish tenth. You wanted to be on the podium, fighting for wins, not languishing in the midfield.
From across the garage, Max’s voice cut through the noise. He was talking to his race engineer, but his words stung as if they were meant directly for you.
“They need to focus on my initial concerns,” he said, his tone casual but firm. “We don’t have time to worry about the rookies issues right now.”
You clenched your fists, the frustration building. It wasn’t just about the race anymore. It was about proving that you belonged here, that you could stand toe-to-toe with him. Max might be the reigning champion, but you weren’t going to let him walk all over you.
You stormed into the garage ripping off your helmet in frustration. Your heart was still pounding, not just from the high-speed laps but from the seething anger simmering under your skin. No matter how much you pushed yourself, Max was always one step ahead. The gap felt minimal, fractions of a second, but it might as well have been a canyon.
Max was already there, cool and composed, his pole position nothing out of the ordinary. He was talking with one of the engineers, a slight smirk tugging at his lips like he had already forgotten about the rest of the field. About you.
You could feel your blood boiling. The way he acted so untouchable, so certain of his superiority. Without thinking you marched toward him, your voice sharper than you intended.
"What's your secret Verstappen?" you asked, sarcasm dripping from every word. "Is it the car, or just pure luck?"
Max glanced over his shoulder, his expression unbothered. He raised an eyebrow that infuriating smirk growing. "Luck? Is that what you're going with?"
You crossed your arms, glaring at him. "I’m just trying to figure out how someone so smug manages to stay on top."
He turned to face you fully now, a look of mild amusement playing across his features. "Maybe it's not that complicated. Maybe I’m just better."
The arrogance in his voice was like fuel to the fire, and you took a step closer, your jaw clenched. "Or maybe you’re just used to coasting because no one’s challenged you here. You’re not untouchable, Max."
Max’s smirk faded slightly his blue eyes narrowing as he took a step toward you. "You think you’re the one to change that? Face it, you're good, but you're not there yet. You’re reckless, always pushing too hard. It’s gonna cost you eventually."
His words cut deeper than you expected. They weren’t just taunts they felt like a judgment, like he had already written you off. But you weren’t about to let him get inside your head.
"At least I’m not afraid to take risks," you shot back.
Max’s eyes flashed, and for a moment something darker crossed his face, something serious. "This isn’t a game you know. There’s no room for mistakes here. You’re playing with fire, and if you keep going the way you are you’re going to burn out."
His words hung in the air between you, the tension crackling like static. He wasn’t mocking you anymore, this was something else, something more intense. You didn’t know if he was trying to warn you or challenge you, but either way you weren’t backing down.
"I’d rather burn out than fade away," you said, your voice hard.
Max didn’t reply immediately, but his eyes locked on yours, unblinking. There was something unreadable in his expression, like he was seeing you in a new light, but it was hard to tell if it was respect or frustration.
"Just stay out of my way," he finally said, his voice quiet but charged. Then he turned, walking away, leaving you standing there with your pulse racing and your fists clenched.
You watched him go, the frustration and anger still swirling inside you. He was wrong about you—you weren’t going to burn out. But something about his words stuck with you, lingering long after he’d walked away, like an unwanted echo in the back of your mind.
The race had ended hours ago, but the irritation still churned in your chest. Sitting in the team briefing room, the air between you and Max was thick with tension, as had become the norm. All you could hear was the pounding of your own heart, still replaying the near-collision between you and Max in your head.
Max sat across the table, leaning back in his chair, arms crossed, his expression unreadable. It was like nothing got to him, like the chaos on the track didn’t even phase him. The way he remained so calm, so detached, only made your anger burn hotter.
Most of the engineers finally left the room and the door clicked shut behind them. The silence that followed was suffocating. You couldn’t hold back anymore.
"Next time," you snapped, your voice cutting through the quiet, "try not to run me off the track."
Max didn’t even flinch, he looked at you his expression infuriatingly calm. "You’re exaggerating."
"Exaggerating?" you exclaimed, your voice rising. "You practically forced me off the track at Turn 8! If I hadn’t backed off, we’d have both been out of the race."
Max sighed, leaning forward, his elbows resting on the table. "It’s racing. Hard racing. If you can’t handle it, maybe you should reconsider what you’re doing here."
You clenched your fists under the table, every muscle in your body tensing. You knew part of the anger was stemming from knowing there was truth to his words, but you weren't going to admit that anytime soon.
"I can handle hard racing just fine," you shot back. "What I can’t handle is you acting like you’re the only one who deserves to be here. I’m your teammate Max, not your punching bag."
Max’s eyes darkened, and for the first time, you saw something else behind his cool exterior—annoyance, maybe even anger. "Teammate?" he repeated, his voice colder now. "You don’t act like one. You drive like you’re the only person on the track."
You laughed bitterly, unable to hold it in. "That’s rich, coming from you. You’ve spent this whole season so far treating me like I’m not even worth your time. It’s like you can’t stand the idea of someone else being good enough to challenge you."
Max stood up abruptly, the chair scraping against the floor. His sudden movement startled you, but you didn’t back down.
"Challenge me?" he said, his voice low but sharp. "This isn’t about some petty rivalry. You’re reckless. You don’t think about the bigger picture. You only care about beating me, and it’s going to get someone hurt—probably you."
His words stung more than you expected. It wasn’t just that he thought you weren’t good enough. It was the way he said it, like he didn’t believe you’d ever be more than a threat to yourself.
"You think I don’t know what I’m doing?" you asked, your voice shaking with anger now. "You think I’m just some rookie who’s out of their depth?"
Max didn’t answer right away. He just stood there staring at you with those piercing blue eyes, like he was trying to figure you out but couldn’t. The silence stretched on heavy and suffocating.
Then, finally, he spoke. "I think you’re talented," he admitted, his voice quieter now, but no less intense. "But you let your emotions get the better of you. You take unnecessary risks because you’re trying to prove something."
His words cut deep, hitting a nerve you hadn’t expected. He wasn’t just criticising your driving anymore, he was questioning you, the way you handled everything. And what stung the most was that part of you feared he might be right.
You stood up, matching his stance refusing to show any weakness. "I don’t need a lecture from you Max. You’re not perfect either."
Max’s jaw tightened, and for a split second, you thought you saw something flicker across his face, hurt? But just as quickly it was gone, replaced by that familiar steely expression.
"Maybe I’m not," he said.
The room felt like it was closing in on you, the air thick with unresolved tension. You wanted to say something, anything, to break through the wall between you, but the anger and frustration clouded your thoughts, you could feel his gaze on your back as you walked out of the room. You slammed the door behind you, the sound echoing down the empty hallway.
You and Max had barely spoken during practice, though the tension was undeniable. He still had that smug look on his face, his confidence oozing off him as you wiped the sweat from your forehead. You could feel your heart beating just a little faster, though you’d never admit it was anything but adrenaline.
As you sat down in the garage, peeling off your gloves, Max passed by.
"Not bad, rookie," he said casually. "Though, I almost expected you to spin out in Turn 4. You were practically kissing the barriers."
You raised an eyebrow, not willing to let him get the better of you. "Almost, huh? Shame you weren’t close enough to see the whole thing. Maybe you could have learned something."
He snorted, leaning against the wall next to you. "Oh, trust me, I got the best view. Though I’m still not sure if you're brave or just reckless."
You gave him a sideways glance smiling "Maybe I’m both."
Max's eyes lingered on you for a second longer than necessary, and you could feel the weight of it. He sat back in his chair, watching you, and the silence between you grew comfortable. You caught him glancing at you again, that smirk back in place, but this time it felt... different.
"You know," he said, voice teasing, "you should smile more often. You look less intimidating when you do."
You glanced up, confused for a second. "I’m not the one people are intimated by."
"Maybe not," he said, eyes glinting, "but you’ve got your own way of getting under people's skin."
"Well, I learned from the best," you shot back without missing a beat.
Max chuckled, shaking his head. "Touché."
As the season wore on, things began to shift slowly. You had found your rhythm, steadily improving race by race. You weren’t on Max’s level, not yet, but you were consistently finishing in the points, and at times, you had even managed to challenge him during practice or qualifying. But the dynamic between you remained strained. Max was still focused on his championship, and while the outright hostility had faded there was still an undeniable tension between the two of you.
The Italian Grand Prix was one of the most iconic races of the season. Monza, the Temple of Speed, with its long straights and tight corners it was a test of both car and driver. You had qualified fourth, but once again Max was on pole. It was becoming a frustrating pattern.
After qualifying you found yourself alone in the paddock, sitting on the steps outside the motorhome. You were replaying your lap in your head over and over, trying to figure out where you could have found more time.
“Still overthinking?” Max’s voice broke through your thoughts, and you looked up to see him standing a few feet away, his helmet under his arm.
You scoffed, shaking your head. “Just trying to figure out how to be half a second faster.”
Max walked over, sitting down beside you on the steps. “You’re pushing too hard,” he said after a moment, his voice surprisingly soft. “You’re overdriving the car.”
You frowned, not sure if this was another dig or actual advice. “I’m trying to make up the gap.”
“You can’t drive like that here,” he continued, his eyes scanning the empty track. “You have to let the car come to you. If you keep forcing it, you’re going to keep making mistakes.”
You looked at him genuinely surprised. This was the first time he had offered anything resembling constructive advice. “Why are you telling me this?”
Max didn’t meet your gaze, instead looking out at the paddock. “Because I’ve been where you are. I know what it’s like to have everything to prove.”
You paused, his words sinking in. For the first time, you realised that Max wasn’t just being arrogant. He had been in your shoes once, the young driver trying to prove himself in a world that was constantly questioning if he was good enough, if he was ready.
“Thanks,” you said, your voice a little quieter than usual. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
Max nodded, standing up and stretching. “Don’t get used to it,” he said with his familiar smirk. “I still want to beat you.”
You laughed, the tension between you easing just a little. “I’ll keep that in mind too.”
The race at Monza was chaotic as expected. The high-speed circuit, combined with the aggressive nature of the drivers made for a thrilling but nerve-wracking experience. Max was fighting for the win as usual, while you were locked in a battle in the top five.
In the closing laps you found yourself side by side with a McLaren, both of you fighting tooth and nail for fourth place. It was intense, wheel-to-wheel racing, and you could feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins. But Max’s earlier words echoed in your head. Don’t overdrive. Let the car come to you.
With a deep breath you backed off slightly, biding your time, waiting for the right moment. And when it came, you seized it, pulling off a clean overtake and securing fourth place. It wasn’t the podium you wanted, but it was solid result.
After the race you were exhausted, but satisfied. It wasn’t a win but it was a step in the right direction. As you walked back into the garage you caught Max’s eye. He didn’t say anything, but there was a subtle nod of acknowledgment. You had his respect even if he wasn’t going to say it out loud.
It was late in the evening, the team had thrown a small celebration after a particularly challenging but successful race for both of you. The atmosphere was relaxed, and after a few drinks you and Max found yourselves sitting together away from the others. The competitive edge was still there, but the rivalry was fading, replaced by something you couldn’t quite name.
You stretched out leaning back on your hands as the warm night air brushed against your skin. Max sat next to you, closer than usual, the dim light casting soft shadows across his face.
“Do you ever feel like it’s all... too much?” you asked suddenly, surprising even yourself with the question. You weren’t even sure why you asked it, but something about the late night and the quiet moment made you feel like maybe you could.
Max looked over at you, his expression unreadable for a moment. Then he nodded slowly. “Sometimes. More than I admit to most people.”
The honesty in his voice caught you off guard. You turned to him, genuinely curious now. “Really? You always seem so in control...so unfazed.”
He gave a half-smile, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “It’s all part of it, you know? The cameras, the pressure... you just get good at pretending.”
You looked at him for a moment, seeing past the champion exterior, catching a glimpse of something more vulnerable underneath. It was oddly comforting, knowing he wasn’t as untouchable as you’d thought.
“Well,” you said softly, “you’re pretty good at it. But for what it’s worth, I don’t think anyone’s really in control. Not out there.”
Max turned his head to look at you, his expression softer, more open than you’d ever seen before. “Yeah,” he said quietly. “Maybe you’re right.”
There was a pause, his eyes lingered on yours, and you felt your heartbeat pick up. You quickly looked away feeling the tension crackle between you.
"Maybe you’re not quite as annoying as I first thought," you said with a light nudge, trying to break the tension with a small smirk.
Max laughed softly the sound low and surprisingly warm. "High praise coming from you."
But the way he looked at you in that moment made it clear that something had shifted between you. Neither of you said anything else for a while, just sitting there in the quiet night, side by side.
You leaned against the railing of the team’s paddock area, the noise of celebration and chatter swirling around you. It was hard not to smile. You’d just finished in an easy second, your best race yet. It was a personal victory, a testament to all the hard work you’d put in.
But even with the adrenaline still coursing through your veins, a knot of conflicting emotions twisted in your stomach. You had to talk to Max.
As if he sensed your thoughts, you turned to see him walking toward you, a small grin on his face. It was a mix of confidence and camaraderie, and for the first time in a while, you felt less inclined to roll your eyes.
“Great race today,” he said, his tone genuine as he leaned against the railing beside you.
“Thanks,” you replied, trying to keep your voice steady. “I actually thought I might’ve had a shot at you there.”
He chuckled softly, and you felt your heart flutter at the sound. “You were close. Just need to find a bit more speed in those corners, and you’ll be there.”
You took a deep breath, the earlier tension bubbling to the surface. “You know, it used to annoy me—how you carried yourself, like you were always one step ahead of everyone. Like it was your birth right to be where you are and no one else could catch you.”
Max raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised by your honesty. “Yeah?"
You turned to face him, the excitement of the race fading into something more serious. “But now? I get it. You’ve worked your ass off to be the best. It’s not just about talent, it’s about everything you’ve sacrificed. I can see that now. I see it everyday”
He nodded slowly, and the atmosphere shifted between you. “It’s not easy, you know. When everyone expects you to win, and if you don’t, it feels like you’ve let them down.”
The vulnerability in his voice surprised you. It was a reminder that he was human too, grappling with expectations and pressure. “But you handle it all so well,” you said, meeting his gaze. “I respect that.”
A smile ghosted across his lips. “Thanks. That means a lot. I’ve noticed how hard you’ve been pushing yourself this season. It’s impressive.”
You felt warmth spread through your chest at his acknowledgment. “I’ve had to, I can’t just coast along. Not when you’re in the same garage.”
Max’s expression grew serious again. “I know I was... a bit frosty at the beginning. I guess I was too focused on myself to notice how much you were putting in. I don't want this to come across wrong... but it's your first season, and I didn’t want to give you any false hope thinking you could compete with me.”
You frowned slightly, you didn't want to dive into old wounds. “It’s okay. I get it.”
“No, it’s not okay,” he said, shaking his head. “You deserved better. I should have been more supportive. You pushed me too, you know? It’s hard to admit, but you’ve made me work harder, and I appreciate that.”
Your heart raced at his words. There was a sincerity in his tone that softened the rough edges of your previous encounters. You couldn’t help but feel a surge of gratitude mixed with disbelief.
“Really?” you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
“Yeah, really,” he replied. “You’ve improved more than I expected in such a short time. It takes guts to put yourself out there and challenge someone who’s been at the top for so long.”
The air between you was charged with a mix of emotions. You nodded, “Thanks for saying that Max. It means a lot to hear you acknowledge it.”
He shrugged, trying to downplay the moment, but the corners of his mouth quirked up. “Well, it’s true. Just don’t get too comfortable, I still plan on beating you.”
You laughed, feeling the tension dissipate. “Bring it on Verstappen. I’ll be ready.”
As you stood there, side by side, the competitive fire still smouldering between you, something shifted again—this time, the rivalry felt more like a partnership.
It was early morning Thursday, you and Max found yourselves sitting across from each other at breakfast, still somewhat groggy from travel. The team lounge was quiet, and the two of you were left alone at the table.
“You’re not gonna try and out-eat me too, are you?” Max asked, a teasing smile playing on his lips as he poked at his food.
You rolled your eyes. “I don’t need to out-eat you Max. I’ve already out-qualified you once.”
His eyes lit up in mock offence. “One time! You’re never going to let that go are you?”
“Not a chance,” you said with a grin, taking a bite of your toast. “I’m framing that lap time.”
He narrowed his eyes playfully. “You’re impossible, you know that?”
“And you’re too easy to mess with,” you shot back. "Honestly, it's like a gift."
Max laughed, his genuine smile making your stomach flip in a way you couldn’t quite control. He lowered his voice conspiratorially. “I’m just letting you win the mind games. Gotta keep you feeling confident somehow.”
“Oh, so you’re being generous now?” you quipped, raising an eyebrow.
“Always,” he replied with a wink.
The playful banter was natural now, a far cry from the sharp edges and constant tension that had defined your early relationship. There was still competition between you, but now it felt like something that pushed you both forward, rather than tearing you apart.
And as you exchanged another playful jab, you couldn’t help but notice the way both your eyes kept catching each other.
The garage had emptied out, leaving behind only the quiet hum of cooling equipment and the faint clatter of distant tools. A rough race, nothing had gone the way you wanted.
Across the room Max was fiddling with his helmet, but you could tell he wasn’t focused on it. He glanced over at you, then slowly made his way to where you were sitting.
“You okay?” His voice was softer than usual.
You didn’t answer at first, still staring down at your hands trying to shrug off the defeat. “Yeah. Just... it wasn’t my day.”
Max nodded, his gaze steady. “It happens,” he said simply, but there was something in his tone that made you look up.
You sighed, the frustration bubbling over. “I know, but it feels different... I thought I was ready to take that next step the consistency was finally there…and then it just comes crashing back down.”
Max was quiet for a moment and when he spoke again there was a warmth in his voice. “This is a brutal track don't be too hard on yourself. You’ve been doing everything you can, I promise it shows.”
You looked at him, meeting his eyes. “It doesn’t feel like enough.”
Max’s gaze softened, and he took a step closer his hand brushing lightly against your arm. “Trust me, it is.”
The simple touch sent a jolt through you, something unspoken passing between you in that small, fleeting contact. You opened your mouth to respond, but before you could say anything Max moved even closer, and in a moment that felt both surprising and natural, he pulled you into a hug.
At first, you were too stunned to react. The sudden closeness, the warmth of his body against yours—it caught you off guard. But then you felt the solid weight of his arms around you, and you melted into the embrace, resting your head against his shoulder. His body was firm, steady, grounding you in a way that made the tension of the day seem to fade.
The hug wasn’t rushed, it lingered, the quiet between you filled with something heavier than words. But the feel of him, his arms around you, his breath steady against your temple was hard to ignore.
You weren’t sure if it was the exhaustion, the frustration, or something else entirely, but suddenly you were hyper-aware of every movement, the way his breath hitched slightly when you leaned into him, the subtle way his hand trailed down your back before settling again at your waist.
Max’s hands tightened slightly around you, his fingers brushing against the fabric of your shirt. You felt his chin rest lightly on top of your head, and there was something in the way his body pressed against yours that sent your pulse racing.
For a moment it was just the two of you, the rest of the world forgotten. You could feel his heartbeat, steady but strong, and the closeness between you felt almost electric. You weren’t sure who would pull away first, or if either of you even wanted to.
When you finally pulled back neither of you moved far, your faces still inches apart. His hands lingered at your waist, and your breath caught when you saw the way his eyes flickered, just briefly, to your lips.
Neither of you said anything, but the way his fingers flexed slightly against your waist, the subtle tilt of his head, made it clear that you both felt it.
Your heart was pounding, the space between you charged. You could see it in his eyes, the question, the pull, but he didn’t act on it. Instead, he gave you a small almost imperceptible smile before he finally let go.
“You’re going to be fine,” he said, his voice quieter than before.
“Yeah,” you managed, trying to ignore the way your body still hummed from the closeness. “I know.”
It was one of those rare nights when the team wasn’t focused on race strategy or technical debriefs. After a relentless set of races, the team had gathered at a low-lit restaurant lounge for a relaxed evening. Laughter and conversation flowed freely around the long table, and for once the entire team seemed at ease.
You were sitting with a few people and one of the mechanics Adam, was regaling everyone with a wildly exaggerated story about a mishap during a pit stop in his rookie year.
Max was sitting a few seats away, engrossed in a discussion with some of the team, but his eyes kept darting over to you, his gaze narrowing slightly as he observed the scene. His shoulders were tense, and the easygoing expression he’d worn earlier in the evening was replaced by something more guarded. It wasn’t like Max to be this quiet at team gatherings, and you were too distracted to notice at first, focused instead on Adam's ongoing tale.
But the shift in atmosphere caught your attention eventually. As you laughed at another one of Adam's jokes you glanced over to find Max staring your way, his jaw set. He quickly looked away, and downed the rest of his drink in one swift motion.
Curious, you turned back to Adam, who was obliviously leaning in a little closer still chuckling at his own story. And then Max was suddenly standing up, making his way around the table and pulling up a chair directly beside you, a smile plastered on his face that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Hey,” Max greeted, his smile a little forced but convincing enough. “What’s going on over here then? Everyone seems to be having fun.”
Adam grinned and gave him a friendly nod. “Just telling some old war stories. You know how it is.”
“Oh, I bet,” Max replied.
You noticed it right away, especially the way he seemed intent on steering the conversation. “Adam was just telling me about his first-ever pit stop disaster,” you explained still smiling. “It’s been quite entertaining.”
“I’m sure it has,” Max said, but his gaze flickered to Adam again something unreadable in his eyes.
Adam glanced between the two of you, sensing the shift, and gave you a friendly smile before excusing himself to join another group. You watched him go, then turned back to Max noticing the tension still in his jaw.
“So, you came all the way over here to save me from pit lane stories?” you questioned.
Max shrugged, his expression casual. “I just didn’t want you to get bored. Thought you might appreciate something a bit more... entertaining.”
You turned to look at him, amused. “Uh-huh, or maybe you just didn’t want to be left out of the conversation.”
“Maybe. But I was doing you a favour, trust me. You’d have heard all of Adam’s best stories in the first five minutes.” He rolled his eyes.
"Seriously, what’s up?" you asked, genuinely confused by his behaviour.
Max didn’t respond immediately, instead glancing around the table, making sure no one was listening too closely before he spoke. "Nothing. Just... noticed you were getting along pretty well with Adam. I didn’t think he was was your type.”
You blinked, surprised by the unexpected comment. “Oh?” you replied, raising an eyebrow. “And what makes you think you know my type?”
Max shrugged, the corner of his mouth twitching up. “Just an observation,” he said.
You laughed, shaking your head. “Is that so? And what exactly do you think my type is Max?”
He exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "I don’t know." He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping lower. “I'd guess someone who doesn’t just talk big but can actually back it up. You know, a real challenge.”
You felt a flicker of heat rush through you at his words, the playful banter quickly taking on a different tone. “A challenge, huh?” you teased. “Funny, I don’t remember you being all that interested in challenges off the track.”
Max's grin widened, his eyes glinting with amusement. “I guess you’ve been paying attention to the wrong things then.”
Your breath faltered, and for a second you wondered if he was going to say something else, if he was going to push this conversation into territory you hadn’t quite prepared for. But then, just as quickly as it started Max leaned back, breaking the moment with a light laugh.
“Don’t overthink it,” he teased with a grin. “You’ll hurt yourself.”
You laughed lightly, shaking your head at his familiar cockiness. “You’re impossible.”
Max just grinned wider. “That's what they tell me.”
For a few minutes you fell into an easy rhythm of teasing each other, the tension from earlier fading completely. Max shifted closer, his knee brushing against yours under the table.
“So, what are you going to do for the break?” he asked, his gaze lingering on your face.
You shrugged, trying to ignore the flutter in your stomach at the way he was looking at you. “Probably just spend some time with family, maybe catch up on some sleep. What about you?”
“Hmm, I’m not sure yet,” he said thoughtfully. “Might go back to Monaco, or maybe not. Depends.”
“Depends on what?” you asked, raising an eyebrow.
Max met your gaze, his expression unreadable for a moment. “Depends on if there’s anything... interesting keeping me around.”
There was a challenge in his eyes that sent a shiver down your spine.
“Or, maybe I’ll just catch up on sleep too,” he added with a wink, steering the conversation back into safer territory.
And before you could respond he reached out for his drink, his hand brushing yours briefly in a way that felt almost accidental. But the touch lingered, the heat of his skin against yours sending a jolt of awareness through you. Your eyes met again, and for a moment, everything else seemed to fade away, the noise of the restaurant, the people around you. It was just you and Max, the world narrowing down to that single point of contact.
The Padel court was quiet, bathed in the late afternoon sun as you and Max stood on opposite sides of the net. This was meant to be a fun break from the track to let off some steam, but the second you both picked up your paddles it became clear neither of you were about to take it easy.
He’d been chirping at you since you got here, claiming he was going to wipe the floor with you. But you’d heard that song before.
"You sure you’re ready for this?" Max called from the other side of the net, casually tossing the ball up and catching it, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "I mean, you can still back out. No shame in admitting defeat early."
You gave him a deadpan look, adjusting your grip on the paddle. "You talk way too much for someone who’s about to lose."
Max rested against his paddle, flashing that familiar smirk. "I’m just letting you believe you have a chance. Keeps things interesting."
You served the ball with a sharp flick of your wrist, sending it careening over the net. Max responded quickly, returning it with ease. The ball bounced between you, a quick exchange of volleys. His movements were swift, confident, but you weren’t about to let him get the upper hand so easily.
"Nice try," Max said after you missed a ball that bounced just out of reach. "You almost looked like you knew what you were doing there."
"Careful Verstappen," you shot back, repositioning yourself for the next rally. "I’m just warming up."
Max laughed, shaking his head. "If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re getting frustrated."
"I don’t get frustrated," you countered, serving the ball again, aiming straight for his side.
"Oh, you definitely do." He easily returned it, the smirk on his face only growing as you both rallied.
You grinned, already feeling the familiar rush of competition surging through you. This wasn’t racing, but it had the same energy—the need to outmanoeuvre, outthink, outplay. And if there was one thing you and Max did well it was push each other’s limits.
"You're really going to make me run for it, huh?" Max panted as he lunged to return a low ball, his paddle barely grazing it.
You smirked. "Wouldn't want you to get too comfortable."
After a particularly long rally, you smashed a shot just out of his reach, winning the point. Max groaned throwing his head back dramatically. "Unbelievable."
You pumped your fist, grinning from ear to ear. "And that’s how it’s done."
"Okay, okay," he wheezed, though his eyes were still bright with amusement. "I’ll give you that one. But don’t think I’m letting you win."
"Letting me win?" you repeated, wiping the sweat from your brow. "That’s cute Max."
Max walked to the net, shaking his head in mock disbelief. "Alright, you got lucky. One point, I’ll give you that."
"One point?" you scoffed, meeting him at the net. "Try four."
"Technicalities," he muttered, but the grin on his face betrayed his playful frustration. He watched you with a glint in his eye. "You know, you’re a lot better at this than I thought."
"Coming from you that means so much." you said dryly.
Max chuckled, his gaze still lingering on you. There was a moment of quiet, the sun casting long shadows on the court, the air between you thick with a kind of unspoken understanding.
"You’re not so bad yourself," you added, breaking the silence but not the tension. "For a guy who spends most of his free time gaming."
Max raised an eyebrow laughing again. "That supposed to be a compliment?"
You shrugged. "Take it however you want."
His grinned. "I think I’ll take it as a compliment."
Before you could reply, he stepped back, tossing the ball in the air. "Alright, rematch. Best two out of three. I’m not letting you walk away with that win."
"You just can’t handle losing to me can you?" you teased, taking your position, ready for another round. "I’m starting to think you just like seeing me sweat."
He chuckled, but the way his eyes lingered on you for a beat longer said more than his words did. "You’re not wrong."
You scoffed, rolling your eyes, but there was no denying the subtle shift in the air. It wasn’t obvious or overt, but the dynamic between you had changed in the last few weeks. The teasing was still there, but there was a different kind of energy between you now, one that neither of you had quite acknowledged yet.
You cleared your throat, stepping back and spinning the ball in your hand. "Let’s finish this then. I’ve got a winning streak to keep."
Max’s grin returned, but it was softer now, less competitive and more… something else. "We’ll see about that."
On race day, the tension was palpable. The roar of engines, the smell of burning rubber, and the hum of adrenaline filled the air. Max was standing next to his car helmet in hand, the pre-race jitters barely showing on his face. You caught his eye from across the garage, and for a moment, the world seemed to quiet around you.
You approached, trying to shake off the strange tension that always seemed to linger between the two of you lately. Max’s gaze met yours, steady but with an intensity that made your breath catch for just a second.
“Ready to lose today?” you asked, trying to keep things light, but your voice sounded a little shakier than you’d intended.
Max smirked, stepping closer than necessary. “In your dreams.”
You tried to roll your eyes, but the proximity made it hard to focus. There was a heat in his gaze and you found yourself holding your breath for a moment.
“Don’t get too cocky Verstappen,” you muttered, the playful tone masking the way your pulse raced.
He leaned in just close enough that you could feel the warmth radiating from him. “I think that’s your job now.”
For a second, it felt like everything had stopped—the noise, the chaos of the track, all fading into the background. But just as quickly the moment passed, and Max stepped back sliding his helmet on.
“See you at the finish line,” he said over his shoulder.
You stood there for a second longer trying to steady your breath, knowing that this race and whatever was happening between you two was far from over.
The season had been a rollercoaster filled with highs and lows. You had stood on the podium for the first time in Canada, a moment that felt surreal after all the hard work. But there had also been heartbreak, a crash in Austria that had cost you valuable points, a mechanical failure in Mexico that had seen you retire from a race where you could have scored big.
Through it all your relationship with Max had continued to evolve. You still raced on track, fighting for every inch of tarmac, but off the track things had changed. There was mutual respect, an understanding that had grown over the course of the season. The animosity that had once defined your relationship was gone, replaced by something more complicated.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was the final race of the season, and the championship was on the line. Max was in a tight battle for the title, and the pressure on both of you was immense.
The night before the race you found Max sitting alone in the team motorhome, staring out at the glowing lights of the Yas Marina Circuit. He looked unusually quiet, his usual air of confidence tempered by the gravity of the situation.
“You ready for tomorrow?” you asked, leaning against the doorway.
Max didn’t look at you, his eyes still focused on the track outside. “As ready as I’ll ever be.”
You stepped inside, sitting down across from him*. “You’re going to win it.”*
Max finally turned to face you, a small, almost tired smile on his face. “You sound pretty sure of that.”
“I’ve watched you all season. No one’s better than you out there,” you said simply, meaning every word.
Max shook his head, letting out a short laugh. “You’re not so bad yourself you know.”
You raised an eyebrow.
He shrugged, a playful glint in his eye. “Don’t let it go to your head.”
You had fought hard to get to this point, and though Max was still your fiercest competition, he was also the one person who, you now realised, might understand you better than anyone else.
Race day was electric, the air crackling with anticipation. The championship battle had come down to this — the final race of the season, and everything was on the line. Max was in contention for the title, but his rival wasn’t far behind. Every lap, every pit stop, every decision mattered.
You were focused on your own race, but there was an underlying pressure you couldn’t ignore. Max needed you to perform today. If you could help him by holding off the cars behind, or making sure the team strategy worked in his favour, you would.
The race itself was a blur. The car felt good and you pushed hard, determined to finish the year on a high.
As the laps ticked down, the tension in the pit lane grew. Max was leading, but his rival was closing in behind you, and the team was on a knifes-edge. Then, with just a few laps to go, you got the call from your engineer.
“We need you to hold position, keep the cars behind you. Max needs this.”
Your heart pounded in your chest. It wasn’t the call you wanted to hear, but you understood. This was the team game. You weren’t fighting for the championship, but Max was.
“Got it,” you replied, gritting your teeth as you focused on the task ahead.
For the next few laps, you fought with everything you had to keep the cars behind you, giving Max the breathing room he needed. It was arguably the hardest race of your life, the pressure almost unbearable. But when the checkered flag finally fell, you had done it.
Max crossed the line first, securing the championship, and you finished in a solid second place.
The roar of the crowd was deafening, fireworks lighting up the sky as Max stood on the podium, the World Champion once again. You watched him celebrate, a mixture of pride and satisfaction swelling in your chest. You hadn’t won, but in a way you had still achieved something important. You had proven that you could compete at this level, that you could stand with the best.
Later that night, after all the celebrations had died down you found Max sitting alone in the quiet garage, his championship trophy resting beside him.
“Not partying with the team?” you asked.
Max looked up, his face still glowing with the satisfaction of victory. “Needed a minute,” he said, his voice soft.
You stepped inside, sitting down beside him. “You did it,” you said, a small smile on your lips.
Max glanced at you, his blue eyes filled with something deeper than just the thrill of winning. “We did it,” he corrected, his voice sincere.
For a long moment, neither of you spoke. The weight of the season, the challenges you had both faced, the fights on and off the track — it all hung in the air between you. But there was no tension now, no rivalry. Just understanding.
“You really helped me today,” Max said after a while, his voice quiet but firm. “I couldn’t have done it without you.”
You shrugged, trying to play it off, but his words meant more to you than you’d expected. “Just doing my job.”
Max chuckled, shaking his head. “You did more than that.”
You turned to face him fully, your knees brushing against his, the closeness between you suddenly palpable. His eyes were on you, and the look he gave you sent a shiver down your spine.
You met his gaze smiling, the two of you had been through so much together, and now, sitting in the quiet aftermath of victory, it felt like the beginning of something new.
But then the playful smile faded, replaced by a more intense expression. His gaze flickered, dropping to your lips for just a fraction of a second, but it was enough to send your heart racing.
The space between you seemed to shrink. You felt your breath hitch as Max shifted closer, the warmth of his body brushing against yours. His hand moved, almost hesitantly, to your arm, his fingers grazing your skin in a way that made every nerve in your body stand on end.
You could feel it now, the weight of everything unsaid, everything that had built up over the season, all the unspoken moments between you. It was all right there, in the way his hand lingered on your arm, the way his breath caught as his eyes met yours again, more intensely this time.
“You’re not bad at this whole teammate thing,” Max murmured, his voice low.
You rolled your eyes, but the banter was thin now, the words barely a distraction from the way your heart was pounding in your chest. “I guess you're not so bad yourself.”
Max’s smile faded again, his gaze serious, and for a moment, everything else fell away. The garage, the race, the entire championship, none of it mattered. It was just the two of you, sitting there in the quiet.
And then, before you could even process what was happening, Max leaned in.
It was slow at first, as if he was giving you time to pull away, but you didn’t. You couldn’t. His lips hovered just above yours, the space between you almost unbearable, and then finally he closed the distance.
The kiss was soft at first, tentative, but it didn’t stay that way for long. There was too much between you for it to be gentle. His hand came up to cup the back of your neck, pulling you closer as the kiss deepened, and you felt your body respond, your heart pounding in your ears.
It wasn’t a kiss born out of victory or celebration. It was something else, something more intense, like all the tension, the rivalry, the unspoken moments between you had finally come to a head. It was raw, charged, and for a moment, it felt like the world had stopped spinning around you.
When you finally pulled back, breathless, Max’s forehead rested against yours, his eyes still closed as he let out a shaky breath.
Neither of you spoke for a long moment. There was a shift now, something irrevocable between you, but it felt right. Like this was where you were always meant to end up.
“You know,” Max murmured, his voice barely above a whisper, “Next year’s going to be interesting.”
You let out a breathless laugh, still trying to catch your breath. “You have no idea.” you teased, nudging him with your shoulder. “Next year, I’m coming for you.”
Max grinned. “I’d like to see you try.”
And as you sat there, still wrapped up in each other you couldn’t help but smile. The season may have ended, but the story between you and Max was far from over.

“There'll be happiness after you, but there was happiness because of you. Both of these things can be true. There is happiness, past the blood and bruise, past the curses and cries. Beyond the terror in the nightfall haunted by the look in my eyes that would've loved you for a lifetime and leave it all behind. Tell me, when did your winning smile begin to look like a smirk? When did all our lessons start to look like weapons pointed at my deepest hurt? I hope she'll be a beautiful fool who takes my spot next to you. No, I didn't mean that. Sorry, I can't see facts through all of my fury. You haven't met the new me yet” you read that piece out loud from your personal journal to your therapist. She stayed silent for a while. You looked over at her knowing you skipped some parts but what you read in the end sank in.
“I think there’s a lot to discuss from just that single piece you wrote. But I wanna ask you something before anything else: do you really believe there will be happiness after him?” your therapist made you a question that felt like daggers pinching you that resulted in leaving you breathless for a few seconds. you loved and hated therapy for this reason. There were things you couldn’t question by yourself because you never thought about it and things you didn’t know how to answer like this one.
“I wish I could say yes. But i don't think i’ve been happy since he left” saying that out loud hurt yourself even more. It was not something easy to admit and accept. But it was the truth. You have never felt really happy since then.
She nodded, writing down in her notebook “but do you believe you can be happy without him? Why is he still so important or has so much space in your life that you can't be happy if he isn’t there? Why were you happy when he was with you?” as always, too many questions with so few answers. You felt exhausted, frustrated by the fact you didn't know what to think about it all.
“I'm sure I want to be happy, I can't live like this anymore. I'm tired” you assured her and yourself. You took a few seconds to think and she respected that. “I guess if I want to then I can, right? I mean, I talk to my friends and all of them tell me time and time again ‘don't let what happened define you’ and I try but I don't know why it is really hard for me” you explained looking at the floor.
“And what’s that definition of yourself?”
“That i'm not worthy of love i guess. that there will always be someone better than me, more attractive, more lovable, more interesting. I can't be the one, for anyone” admitting it felt like an elephant stepped on you and you just died in the act. Your therapist, Maria, nodded looking at you.
“Well, but in what you wrote you tell this woman he left you for, that you hope she is a fool like you, right?” she intervened. You nodded. “What can you tell me about it?”
You looked at your hands a bit sweaty. “I really don’t know. I mean her existence made me compare myself to her. She is so different. It made me feel all of those things I said before. And maybe i blamed her existence because if she didn't existed then, charles would still be here”
“You think so?”
“I guess, yeah” you looked at her. She wrote down more stuff on that notebook you were so intrigued by.
“So, for you, there doesn't exist the possibility that maybe he just stopped loving you? Like even if she existed or not - could be any other woman or could be no one at all. Would it hurt more if he just stopped loving you?” you felt your brain make a 180 turn on itself.
“I don’t know. Maybe, yeah, I mean. I Think it’s easier to blame someone then not have an explanation for it” your therapist nodded.
“So, why would she occupy your same place then? If you are different from each other, why would she be just like you? As a replacement it seems and at the same time who’s at fault for all of this situation and insecurities. And before you answer, I think we can connect that to what happened between your dad and mom, right?” she saw your face so confused she knew this was gonna be the end of the session so you could think about it during the next two weeks. “You told me you discovered your dad cheated on your mom. So all you ever dreamed was to find someone who would be better than him, to prove yourself that that isn’t your destiny, just like your mom. And then Charles left you for this other girl. And everything you built up in your mind to try to believe in love and to escape from the reality you had to live through, then it crumbled down in that instant. Leaving you feeling like there was no way you could be worthy of love, because you tried but Charles did exactly what your dad did to your mother. And since then you couldn’t date anyone else. This is a theory, I'm not saying it is what it is of course. But it seems that if they didn't exist then you wouldn’t be this hurt and maybe forgive charles,as you said when you wrote ‘and leave it all behind’ just like your mom did with your dad”
Her words echoed in your head for a while. The knot in your throat intensified. “Charles was my everything just like my parents were. And after what happened, with Charles and my dad, I guess I let that define me. I wanted to show myself that the love i’ve seen in books and movies existed, not like in my house. I wanted to make things right. In a way, to mend what hurt me the most. The betrayal of my dad. So I put Charles under that pressure and maybe that made things the way they went down. I don’t know to be honest. I don’t know why I want alexandra to be like me. Maybe that’s another way of convincing myself I'm not the only fool in this mess.”
“I don’t think you are a fool. Relationships are complicated and the reason he decided to leave could be based on a million reasons, and even in that situation. Maybe any of them are because of you or who you are as a person. People are complex and most times messy. Feelings aren’t easy to control or understand” she explained to you. “So, coming back to this new encounter you had with him, how did you feel about it?”
“It felt weird, very uncomfortable to be around him. But at the same time a force drove me closer to him. I wanted to be closer. Ask him everything and at the same time punch him. He felt the same to be honest. Just like the previous day he left, when everything was alright.” you pulled a face you didn't know how to describe at that moment.
“And you felt the same?”
“No i think, i didn’t” she nodded and half smiled at my answer.
“Then, what’s the new you he didn’t meet?”
“Who i am now i guess”
“And who are you?” her question made you realize you didn’t know how to answer that question yet. You knew you were different, because you felt different although stuck dealing with the aftermath of that relationship. She noticed your silence (because she knew all too well you didn’t know how to answer it) and smiled gently.
“Alright, y/N. Let’s leave it here and continue next session, okay? See you in two weeks”
Who the fuck were you now?
⋆˚࿔ 𝜗𝜚˚⋆
Mornings at your balcony were your favorite moment during the day. Your coffee was warm and comforting on a grey and windy day. You were covered in clothes and blankets. You needed that moment anyway. You wouldn’t let the winter win. You watched your neighbor cleaning his living room. He had his window opened so you could see a bit of what he was doing. However, you didn't see him very well because you didn't have your glasses on so it’s a bit blurry. You thought there was someone else with him. Probably a girl.but you weren’t that interested.the only thing you hated about your balcony was the fact that the view was partially blocked by that damn house up the hill.
After a while, you took your stuff and went into your house again. You felt warmer instantly. You left the blankets on the coach and washed up what you used to have for breakfast a few minutes ago. You had to pack as soon as possible. On saturday, you travel to london to see your college friends and also because your friend franco, another formula one driver you met by chance at a college party, it was his birthday party. You wanted that week to be a good one. Be a week you genuinely enjoy and just be happy.
But after everything that happened the last month around Charles, it was really difficult. Your therapist was a really good help of course. But you hated not knowing how to handle all of these feelings you didn’t understand and that paralyze you.
You only had one phrase in your head: ‘no one teaches you what to do when a good man hurts you’.
You couldn’t think of Charles as a bad man, or person or anything. Yes, he was stupid. And he destroyed your self esteem. And your trust. And yes, you still were kind of stuck in that restaurant. But you also had some kind of responsibility. And that also troubled you a lot.
Your self esteem shouldn’t be defined by anyone else but you. What do you think about yourself? Who are you? That was your fault. You didn’t know how that would affect destiny for him to leave you but well, it is what it is yet. You kind of thought that maybe it’s the price you had to pay for putting him in a role he didn't want to be in. maybe you were too much. Too intense. Too dependent. He only wanted someone to talk and have fun with. But you wanted a good husband at 18, and a good father, and the one who would take away your pain and fix your traumas.
Maybe he wasn’t the only one who hurt someone, but you also hurt him in some way.
Ten years in, and you still couldn’t explain what happened. What did you do or not do for him to stop loving you? Or perhaps you can actually stop loving someone but you didn't experience it yet.
You sighed, reaching your travelling suitcase from on top of your closet. You almost fell so you had to grab a chair from your kitchen. You loved travelling but packing was a nightmare (also, because you couldn’t decide which outfits were good so you had to take two suitcases and pay extra everytime. Not that you didn't have the money and it was a problem. But you knew it was an unnecessary spend).
That’s when you remembered how it was like to travel with charles. And you hated yourself for remembering his stupid laugh so cute it made your heart melt every time. Would he still laugh like that? Maybe it was best not to know it.
If you were younger and he came back, you’d probably forgive him and leave it all behind just to be happy with him. But now, you wanted to leave everything behind: him, his family, the memories, the feelings, the hurt. And maybe that is what changed.
That was the new you.
⋆˚࿔ 𝜗𝜚˚⋆
Your laugh was so liberating. Your hair was free in the wind. He was driving through the Monaco coast. It was finally summer break and you decided to have a picnic at the beach. His hand on your tight. David Guetta on the radio. You were singing along without a care in the world.
Your fingers brushed his hand making him look at you through his sun glasses in a beautiful cute smile.
“You look gorgeous, cherie” you saw his lips pronounce those words in slow motion, feeling your every fiber get wild inside you. Your smile was so big and your cheeks pink. He could melt forever just to see you this happy. You wanted to freeze those moments with him and live in them forever.
“I love you, Charles,” you said so warmly and softly. It was your romance movie playing over and over again. That’s how you felt. But when he heard you say those words, his face turned serious. Almost pulled a face of disgust. For some reason you got so scared you wanted to jump out of the car to save your life.
You wanted to save your life.
He noticed you wanted to escape so he tightened his grip on you tightly, hurting you but he wasn’t letting you go away.
“Charles, let go of me” you said almost in a whisper. Your breath was fast. You needed to jump. You started fighting so he would let you go.
“Stop, cherie. We’re gonna have our happily ever after, isn’t that what you wanted?” he said, trying to drive and grab you at the same time. You started crying not knowing what to answer. The anxiety took over you.
“You said you loved me cherie, you can’t go now” he was crying and let go of the steering wheel. You got desperate seeing the car had no control and you were at the Monaco cliffs.
“Charles! CHARLES!” you screamed from the top of your lungs as you watched both of you exiting the driveway into nowhere. All the sea around you. Slow motion Charles looked at you with a huge smile.
“Happily ever after baby” he said and you looked horrorized. But when you were about to scream again as if that would change anything.
Everything went black.
You woke up drowning in cold sweat and tears. Your heart was beating too fast for your liking. The feeling you had in that moment of pure confusion was scared to death. For a moment you didn’t know if you were alive or dead. Your room was pitch black so it kinda felt like you died. But you were thinking and you thought there was no way you could think when dead, so you were alive.
After a few seconds of paralysis, you react and turn on your light from your bed table. You took a deep breath and scrubbed your face to wake yourself up. Your face was wet still from your tears. The moment you were conscious again you felt defeated. It was the third time in the night you were having this kind of nightmares, now three days in a row. You laid back again in bed for a moment.frustration was all over your face. You were so tired of living like this. Yet, you didn’t know how to stop. You grabbed your phone to see what time it was. It showed 5:46 am. You snarled, hating your brain more than anything in the world.
You got up from bed and went straight to the bathroom to wash your face. You knew all too well you couldn’t be able to fall asleep again nor you wanted to. It has been a terrible night already. So you let your brain win once again.
You went downstairs to your studio where it was warm. Sun isn't out yet, so here you’ll be warmer. If not, you probably would have chosen the balcony as always. Or the restaurant, although you haven't come back to it since the last encounter with charles. You just didn’t want to go back there ever again. Just like the time he left.
You sat on your chair at your desk. Eyes tired. You opened your journal. You didn’t remember writing so much like in the past week or so. But you had so many thoughts to write sometimes it got difficult for you to function properly. You just had to stay at home writing non-stop. Not only your upcoming book but your feelings. After the dream you had, a lot must be processed.
I know I'm probably better off on my own than loving a man who didn't know what he had. And I see the permanent damage he did to me.
Never again.
I just wish I could forget when it was magic.
But I also just wish you could’ve been a better man.
You sighed reading your words again on paper. You felt worried about yourself. Like, maybe you were broken and couldn’t ever be fixed. You were scared that you wouldn’t be able to fix yourself back up again. Or even thinking that maybe you were born broken so how could you fix yourself then? You were scared there was no way out of this pain, agony, self hatred, nightmare you have lived these past years… or your whole life. You dreamed about being in love again with someone so different from charles yet maybe who makes you feel the same high. Or maybe higher erasing every trace of him or memory of your dad. Now lines were blurry. You didn’t want to think about your dad, not only because he was gone and you couldn’t do anything about it, but because it felt weird linking him in some way to charles, but if your therapist said so, maybe you were more troubled than you thought.
Would there be a good guy? Do they even exist? You guessed you’ve never met one of them yet.
I hold onto this pride because, these days, it's all I have. And I gave you my best, and we both know you can't say the same.
Were you writing about him? Or about your dad?
You stared at the wall thinking about the answer that never came around.
Just like the both of them did when it came to you.
⋆˚࿔ 𝜗𝜚˚⋆
It was 10 am in the morning already. You didn’t sleep a bit. You’ve been in a zoom meeting since 8. Talks about the movie in the making were held. Casting started so they sent you a few ones they think are perfect for the roles so you have to watch them after the meeting. Also, they go through the aesthetic and changes they will make from the book, and that’s why this meeting has been so long. They needed to discuss everything with you to make sure you agreed. They wanted to be respectful with your work and you appreciate it very much. It made you feel important. In other news, they thought that taylor swift could make the soundtrack for the movie and you got very excited about it. You loved Taylor's songwriting and believed (and were almost sure) she would make the perfect song for the movie.
It was gonna be a long day ahead, full of work and watching hours of footage from castings. But it was for your dream. You still couldn’t believe you had your book be a movie in the making. It still feels surreal.
Then you remembered charles’ ex followed you and liked your posts. And you were mad at him again. You were sure (no doubts at all for real), she didn't know who you were. Because he kept you buried like you were sin.
A part of you wanted to believe he did it because he knew he fucked up and didn’t want people to judge him for his lack of sympathy towards his last lover. But at the same time you just found it cruel behavior with no reason at all to do that. You kinda felt dirty as if you were bad. Very bad. Banned from his life.
You shook your head, getting yourself back to the present time and starting working again. Your lack of rest doesn't help in getting distracted with thought every minute but you were doing the best you could. Plus, work helps you not to think about anything else. And that’s good.
You really needed a break from thinking.

⋆˚࿔ finally the london trip arrived 𝜗𝜚˚⋆
Laughter was all over the place as well as a lot of bottles of alcohol with names you haven’t seen in your life. It was finally Saturday night, which meant it was Franco's birthday celebration. And because it was his birthday of course all the decorations were argentina flags everywhere and boca junior club t-shirts for everyone, including you. As you got to his house you were given one at the door to wear it. Fortunately, for you it didn’t ruin your outfit and I could say it looked great on you. Or well, that’s what franco said to you while preparing you a drink you haven’t ever tried before. He said it was called fernet with coke. You were already a bit drunk because you were drinking vodka with the girls while getting ready. You didn’t like vodka that much but after everything that happened in your life, you kinda felt the urge to drown in vodka or tequila. Mi gente latino music was playing non-stop. You knew Franco loved duki and bizarrap, and they were actually at the party. You couldn’t talk to them yet. So everything was a bit crazy even if you weren’t that many people. He was just a close friend to franco. So i guess it was like 60 people. Way too many people to be honest but for a famous 2 times world champion it was really a small amount of people so it was super intimate.
“There you go, hermosa” he said, handing you the glass full of black liquid. You looked at it a bit worried in a funny way and grabbed it. He let out a cute laugh. “Try it, you’re gonna like it, i promise” he encouraged you. He couldn’t resist the view of you with that boca juniors on. Probably, the combination of you and that was his heaven made on earth. He was really down for you, since it felt like forever. Probably since that night at that party back 6 years ago or so. You always have a different light that anyone can match. and that’s what he liked most about you along with your authenticity. You were so unique to him. He looked at you biting his lip a little trying not to be so obvious.
You tried the drink looking into his eyes. You were really close but you felt really comfortable. Your friends have left you alone with him the minute he came forward to you, of course. They really believed you could work out with him. And after vodka and long talks about it with them, maybe you would give it a try. But it scared you, you didn’t want to use him as a friend. So it was a risky situation in your opinion. Although, you could see he liked you for a long time now. And you found him funny and really attractive in your opinion. You give it a few more sips to taste it fully. “Oh I think I like it,” you said, giving him a funny smile.
“I told you. I’m the best fernet preparer in this whole country… and also, I did it with love just for you” he said, making you laugh and blush after the last sentence he said.
“I’m sure it’s the love you put in it” you gave it another sip looking at him. His face turned red and let out such a cute giggle. Alcohol was making you melt for your best friend? We guess so.
He got closer grabbing your waist and planted a sweet kiss on your cheek making you nervous as you never felt for a long time. However, it felt weird. Maybe as if this shouldn’t be happening.
⋆˚࿔ 𝜗𝜚˚⋆
Franco’s house was enormous. The party was being held at the gallery near his garden. It was cold but the lights and the people stuck to each other made it warmer. You were with your girls again dancing to bad bunny and los del espacio songs. You didn’t understand a word because Spanish was definitely not your talent. You tried to learn because of Franco, and he tried to teach you, but failed every time. You did learn a few words anyway but speaking fluidly was something you won’t ever do. Or that’s what you thought about it. It was your third fernet. You didn’t know it was so good. Also it could make you so drunk. And you were way too drunk by now but you never felt so happy. You were laughing about anything and everything. Dancing without a care in the world. Enjoying being surrounded by your friends. Charles wasn’t on your mind nor any trace of him or his family or the history behind you two. Memories have faded away, washed by the alcohol in your veins. You didn’t remember having so much fun since forever. Your girls were right. Life was so much more than Charles, you were so much more than what you were with him. And all of this you have it because of you and you alone. In that moment you felt liberated. Free from the curse it was put on you. Free of judgment. Free of insecurities. Until you saw that damn mullet and when it turned around you felt kind of speechless. Your eyes locked in that man you didn’t know but he was so hypnotic. You couldn’t stop looking at him.
“Girl! Close your mouth, you're drooling! Is it for franco, huh?” Nikola joked when she saw you like that, making you laugh while shaking your head.
“No it isn’t girls, is that guy over there i don’t know who he is but he is so beautiful” you said pointing your finger in his direction unconsciously. Because when you looked at him again he was looking at you straight in the eyes. You almost freaked out and ran away from there. His fucking smile. What the hell is happening to you? Your friends looked over at him as well with no simulation at all. The four of you were pretty obvious. And that’s when another guy turned around to see where his mate was looking over with that face. Nikola almost fell to the floor.
She turned around freaked out, making all of you stop looking at them so weird. Alcohol makes you behave so embarrassing for your liking.
“Holy shit girls, it’s oscar fucking piastri and lando norris” her eyes were leaving her face for a bit. You grabbed her arms still confused. You didn’t know them but you heard nik talking about that oscar a few times. Betty and Dottie looked over at them again but they were gone.
“Okay they are gone nik” dottie said. Betty took a sip from her drink. You wanted to say something but you felt someone grab your waist from behind and kiss your head.
“Hello ladies” of course it had to be franco. You smiled nervously looking at your friends. One of your hands placed over Franco's arms not wanting him to let go. You liked it. Or that’s what you drowned in alcohol though about it.
“Hello mister, i guess we will grab more drinks at the bar, goodbye bye byeee” Betty said, taking her two girls with her leaving you alone with franco. You laughed and resigned. Nik gave franco a warning sign ‘im watching you’ making franco laugh too. And they disappeared through the people dancing and talking.
He kissed your cheek letting you go a bit so you could turn around to face him. “Hey handsome, where have you been? Are you having fun?” you said surrounding his neck with your arms and he did the same around your waist. He nodded in a smile.
“Now that I'm back with you, I'm really having fun,” he said cheeky.
“Oh shut up” you said rolling your eyes funny because of his flirty side.
“Hey, I'm telling the truth. I was with my school friends though ,they came from home” he told you and made you smile while stroking the curls on his head gently. Your fingers in his hair sent shivers down his spine. He couldn’t stop looking at your lips and you noticed. But you liked it so you let him.
“I’m happy you’re enjoying your night fran. You deserve all of this love, world champion” you said sweetly looking at his eyes so shiny and deep green right now. Your words made him melt.
And there were you, the girl who can win over the man known for being the most professional at flirting. You always win with him. He is so down bad for you he felt stupid. You were so beautiful in his eyes. So amazing. He hated Charles so much. He even celebrated when he retired. They couldn't even pretend to like each other and actually it was one of the most famous feuds between drivers in the history of the sport. Franco just couldn’t comment anything positive about charles. Even if he tried he just couldn’t. The most infamous moment was when Charles won his first championship and he was asked about it. He said he didn’t want to comment about it because he had nothing to comment about. So franco started to be known as the guy who was nice to everyone except for charles leclerc. And it was hilarious to see because no one knew why. And the why was always you.
Franco wanted to have you and couldn’t. Charles had left you alone and destroyed another woman. How could he? Franco took that as an insult. You were an amazing woman. The most amazing woman he has ever met and that asshole did that to you. He just couldn’t stand him. Breathing the same air as Charles was unbearable for him.
All of these thoughts rambling around and neither of you didn’t realize you were kissing already. Your lips melting into each other in the sweetest and softest kiss you have ever had. Even better than any kiss Charles could have given you before. You hated yourself for comparing every guy in your life with Charles, but you couldn’t help it. But this felt different. It was sweet but at the same time it felt so wrong.
But you couldn’t stop.
And you didn’t want to.

You two had been incredibly blessed your entire lives; you had fallen in love at a young age and got married, you had been fortunate enough to be able to travel the world with your husband, Charles, watching him do what he loved and you were still were able to keep up with your writing, number one seller after the other.
The first time you got pregnant, it wasn’t planned. Twins in the first go. Your family of two quickly became a family of 4; the two boys making their appearance after a long yet short nine months.
Gabriel Hervé Leclerc was the older of the boys, born a whopping 12 minutes before his twin, Christopher Jules Leclerc.
They were troublemakers from the day they were born; they had their father’s eyes, his dimples and smile.
The family of 4 remained 4 for another 2 years before you found out you were pregnant again. This time you had a baby girl; Eloise Marie Leclerc.
She too bared great resemblance to her father; the only thing was she has your eyes but his dimples prominent on her little cheeks, her fair skin identical to her father’s. As she got older, you quickly learned that she turned tomato red in the sun like her daddy.
Even though she was the youngest of the 3 children, she had her brothers (and her father) wrapped around her little finger from day one.
The kids didn’t stay little forever, you basked in the memories but now they were all grown up. The boys were 19 and your baby girl turned 17 last month.
You and Eloise were at the nail salon, a regular Friday for the Leclerc women. Pascale usually joins you two, the gossip overflowing between you 3 but she wasn’t able to join you guys today.
Charles was taking you to an event tonight, some F1 gala that required his presence for a few hours to give out an award.
You were showing your daughter a colour, asking her which one she liked between but she waved you off, “blue, mom.” She answers, her eyes glued to the phone sitting on her thigh as the woman worked on her left hand.
“Who’s texting you that you’re so busy you can’t even look up?”
Eloise looks over at you, her cheeks red. “Anthony.”
You racked your brain – Anthony ? Who the hell was Anthony? It was like the light bulb turned on when you looked over at her again, a smile on your own face.
“Anthony as in, Anthony Gasly ?”

summary: Y/N is getting ready for the met gala and preparing for an interview with vogue.
authors note: there's probably going to be a part two, and i didn't know there was a limit to the number of photos you can add here 🤦♀️😭
It's the night of the Met Gala, and Y/N is getting ready for the biggest event of the year. She's also scheduled to give an interview to Vogue while she gets ready, and she's excited to share some details about her personal life.
"Can you tell us more about him? What does he do?"
Y/N hesitates for a moment. She knows that Charles is a Formula 1 driver and a pretty big deal in the racing world, but she doesn't want to mention that and steal the spotlight from her own accomplishments.
"Well, he's in the sports industry," she says vaguely. "He's very passionate about what he does, and he works incredibly hard."
"That's great to hear. And what about his fashion sense? Is he as stylish as you are?"
Y/N bites her lip, trying not to laugh. Charles has many talents, but fashion is definitely not one of them.
The interviewer chuckles. "Sounds like quite the character. So, what's next for you and Charles?"
As Y/N finishes getting ready and heads off to the Met Gala with a smile on her face, she can't help but feel grateful for Charles and the joy he brings to her life, even if his fashion choices sometimes leave something to be desired.
🚨 Vogue had just announced on their social media that the highly anticipated second part of Y/N's interview was coming soon, and it would feature a special guest appearance. The announcement had fans on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the release of the second part of the interview with the special guest appearance. Vogue had once again sparked the excitement and anticipation of the fashion world.

Summary:
Oscar Piastri managed to keep his wife a secret on accident for nearly half a decade…
Come to think off, that was not the only one he kept a secret.
Notes:
Part 2 of The mysterious Mrs. Piastri verse...
(divider thanks to @saradika-graphics )
Lando: BRO. EMERGENCY. URGENT. YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS.
Max: Oh my god, what now?
Lando: OSCAR. PIASTRI. IS. MARRIED.
Max: …Yeah, that tracks.
Lando: WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT TRACKS????
Max: I mean, I didn’t know, but also… not surprised.
Lando: HOW ARE YOU NOT SURPRISED??
Max: Because, mate, I knew Oscar back in the Renault Eurocup days. And he was in love. Properly, stupidly, pathetically in love. You think Oscar’s all calm and unbothered? You should’ve seen teenage Oscar.
Lando: I CAN’T. MY BRAIN WON’T ACCEPT THIS.
Max: Bro, this man used to sit in the paddock and stare at his phone, smiling at texts from her. Like, full-on grinning. It was disturbing.
Lando: NO.
Max: Oh yeah. Proper gobsmacked-in-love type of obsessed. We used to rip into him for it, and he didn’t even care.
Lando: WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE DIDN’T CARE???
Max: I mean, you know how Oscar is. He’d just shrug and go “Yeah, and?” Like we were the crazy ones.
Lando: I CAN’T PROCESS THIS.
Max: Mate, he was obsessed with her. Like, actual teenage boy, head-over-heels, no-thoughts-just-Felicity obsessed.
Lando: OSCAR???
Max: YES. You have no idea. We’d finish a race, and he’d be on his phone before he even got his helmet off. Always texting.
Lando: To her???
Max: Always. If he wasn’t texting, he was on FaceTime. If he wasn’t on FaceTime, he was watching her ballet videos like they were onboard footage.
Lando: …Ballet videos???
Max: She’s a ballerina. He tried to do ballet once. It went horribly.
Lando: PLEASE TELL ME THERE’S FOOTAGE.
Max: No, but I will never forget the look of pure pain on his face when he came back from one of her classes. “Max, this is the worst thing I’ve ever done. My calves don’t work anymore.”
Lando: I AM IN TEARS.
Max: And don’t even get me started on the food.
Lando: What food???
Max: Oscar always had the best snacks, and they were always things she made him. Like pandan cakes, curry puffs, some kind of egg tarts. Man was eating good.
Lando: I THOUGHT THAT WAS KIM?!
Lando: YOU’RE TELLING ME SHE WAS PACKING HIM LUNCHES LIKE A LITTLE HOUSEWIFE EVEN BACK THEN???
Max: Not even kidding. He always had food, and it was always from her. One time, I asked if I could have some, and he was like, “No, Felicity made this for me.”
Lando: HE WAS ALREADY A WHIPPED HUSBAND BEFORE HE EVEN TURNED 18.
Max: Precisely. Man has been gone for her since day one.
Lando: Selfish.
Max: To be fair, if someone made me homemade food with that much love, I wouldn’t share either.
Lando: …Fair.
Max: Also, she’s tiny. Like, I swear, I thought Oscar was going to break her just by hugging her. It was actually terrifying.
Lando: Who even is she???
Max: Felicity Lee? Leong? Something like that. She went to school with him. Tiny, startlingly pretty. I’m talking, ‘you do a double take and forget how to speak’ kind of pretty. That girl had Oscar so whipped before they even finished school, it was ridiculous.
Charles: WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN YOU HAVE A WIFE???
Charles: OSCAR, EXPLAIN. NOW.
Pierre: I JUST SPAT MY COFFEE OUT.
Carlos: I NEARLY DROVE OFF THE ROAD.
George: YOU HAVE A WHOLE WIFE??? A LEGALLY BOUND PARTNER???
George: I’m sorry, I need someone to confirm because I think I hallucinated.
Oscar: …Yes?
Charles: OH SURE, JUST CASUALLY. "Yes." Like you didn’t just drop the biggest bombshell on live TV.
Lewis: This is the most shocking news of the year, I need a moment.
Alex: You have a wife?
Alex: SINCE WHEN???
Fernando: The quiet ones always have secrets.
Max: Why do I feel like Daniel just screamed somewhere?
Daniel: I AM SCREAMING. I AM SCREAMING IN MY HOTEL ROOM. WHAT DO YOU MEAN OSCAR IS MARRIED??
Oscar: Five years.
Pierre: FIVE YEARS????
Carlos: YOU GOT MARRIED AT EIGHTEEN???
Lando: WHILE THE REST OF US WERE STILL FIGURING OUT HOW TO TALK TO GIRLS, YOU WERE OUT HERE GETTING MARRIED???
Oscar: Yeah.
Charles: WHY DID NONE OF US KNOW???
Logan: You guys didn’t know?
Charles: YOU KNEW?!
Logan: Yeah, met her ages ago.
Lando: HOW. WHY. WHEN.
Logan: Prema? Arthur knows too, I am pretty sure.
Pierre: YOU WERE HOLDING THIS INFORMATION FROM US.
Oscar: I didn’t think it was that big of a deal?
Charles: NOT A BIG DEAL?!
Carlos: You could have at least mentioned it.
Lewis: Does she exist? Are you lying? Do we need proof?
Oscar: …Yes, Lewis, she exists.
Lando: WHO IS SHE. WHAT IS HER NAME. WHAT DOES SHE LOOK LIKE.
Max: How did you manage this? You are… you.
Oscar: ???
Daniel: I NEED TO SIT DOWN.
Lando: YOU ARE SITTING DOWN.
Daniel: I NEED TO LIE DOWN.
Oscar: You guys are being dramatic.
Pierre: You hid a whole wife from us. We are allowed to be dramatic.
Oscar: You never asked?
George: WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE NEVER ASKED??? HOW WERE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW TO ASK???
Oscar: I don’t really talk about my personal life.
Lando: CLEARLY.
Pierre: But why doesn’t she come to races?
Oscar: She doesn’t like the circus.
Oscar: It gives her anxiety.
Oscar: And she’s already given up enough for me.
Charles: WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE’S GIVEN UP ENOUGH FOR YOU??
George: Bro, are you hearing yourself?? That sounds serious.
Carlos: That sounds like something from a movie.
Oscar: I don’t know why you’re all freaking out.
Pierre: BECAUSE YOU DROPPED THE BIGGEST NEWS OF THE YEAR LIKE IT WAS NOTHING???
Lando: Yeah, and now we’re finding out your mysterious wife has sacrificed things for you??? OSCAR.
Oscar: Her family didn’t approve of us getting married so young.
Lando: Okay, fair, that’s kind of understandable—
Oscar: So they cut her off.
Lando: WHAT.
Pierre: WHAT.
Carlos: EXCUSE ME???
Daniel: I’M GOING TO FIND THEM AND YELL AT THEM.
Charles: HOLD ON. YOU’RE SAYING SHE LEFT EVERYTHING FOR YOU AND HER FAMILY JUST—DIDN’T SPEAK TO HER AGAIN???
Oscar: Pretty much.
Lewis: …That’s awful.
Oscar: It is what it is.
Lando: NO, NO, IT’S NOT JUST WHAT IT IS. WHAT THE HELL, OSCAR.
Pierre: HOW HAVE YOU JUST NEVER TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE???
Oscar: Because it’s not my story to tell.
Carlos: That’s… actually fair.
Max: Her parents are stupid.
Oscar: Yeah, well. Nothing I can do about that.
Lewis: That must have been really hard for her.
Oscar: It was. It still is, sometimes. But she doesn’t regret it.
Lando: BECAUSE SHE LOVES YOU???
Oscar: Yeah.
Pierre: Oh my god.
Daniel: I’m emotional.
George: Okay but we don’t even know her name.
Pierre: DROP THE NAME, OSCAR.
Oscar: Felicity.
Lando: FELICITY????
Pierre: That’s so cute, I can’t even be mad.
Daniel: FELICITY PIASTRI???
Oscar: Yeah.
Lando: WHERE DOES SHE LIVE?? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN HIDING HER???
Oscar: We live near the McLaren HQ.
Lando: YOU LIVE TOGETHER.
Pierre: OF COURSE THEY LIVE TOGETHER, LANDO, THEY’RE MARRIED.
Carlos: I feel like I need to lie down.
Daniel: You and me both.
Lewis: Alright, so when do we get to meet her?
Oscar: I’ll ask if she wants to come to Silverstone?
Charles: ARTHUR.
Arthur: yes brother dearest
Charles: YOU KNEW OSCAR WAS MARRIED???
Arthur: uhhh yeah??
Charles: AND YOU DIDN’T THINK TO TELL ME???
Arthur: why would i tell you? i thought you knew?
Charles: WHY WOULD I KNOW??? HE NEVER TALKS ABOUT IT.
Arthur: yeah, he’s private about it, but like… he’s been married for years. i thought it was just one of those things everyone knew??
Charles: EVERYONE??? APPARENTLY NOT ME.
Arthur: ok but be honest. if i told you “oh yeah oscar got married at 18,” would you have believed me?
Charles: …fair point.
Charles: BUT STILL. HE GOT MARRIED AT 18???
Arthur: i know. we were all out here at prema still figuring out how to flirt and oscar was out here being A HUSBAND.
Arthur: like, we were panicking over texting girls back and he was making plans for dinner with his wife.
Charles: HOW DID THIS NEVER COME UP???
Arthur: idk, he’s not the type to bring it up randomly.
Arthur: but if you do ask, it’s game over. bro is OBSESSED with her.
Charles: ???
Arthur: like, i’ve seen him sit through a full engineering debrief completely unfazed, no reaction, zero emotions.
Arthur: but then his wife texts him “good luck” and suddenly he looks like he just won the lottery.
Arthur: prema days were just a bunch of kids losing their minds over instagram likes while oscar was married.
Arthur: like, we’d be debating if texting a girl twice in a row was too desperate, and oscar was over there planning his life with his wife.
Arthur: her family basically disowned her when she married him.
Charles: …what?
Arthur: yeah. they thought she was ruining her life by marrying some kid in motorsport.
Arthur: they told her she was throwing everything away for him. that he’d never make it, that she’d regret it.
Arthur: and when she didn’t back down, they cut her off completely. oscar doesn’t talk about it because he knows.
Arthur: he knows what she gave up for him.
Arthur: and he takes that personally.
Arthur: like, have you ever seen oscar get actually angry?
Charles: …no?
Arthur: i have. once.
Arthur: i walked in on him on the phone with her father.
Arthur: it was the scariest moment of my life.
Charles: OSCAR???
Arthur: YES.
Arthur: he was so calm but also terrifying.
Arthur: like, i swear to god, he said something like, “i don’t care what you think of me, but you don’t get to make her feel like she’s not worth loving.”
Arthur: And then he told the guy that if he ever so much as thought about talking to her like that again, oscar would personally fly across the world and put him in the ground.
Arthur: and the worst part? her dad believed him.
Arthur: like. i could hear it. the silence. the fear.
Arthur: and then oscar just hung up like it was nothing.
Arthur: meanwhile, i’m standing there losing my mind, trying to comprehend that my quiet, nice, mild-mannered teammate had just casually promised to commit murder.
Charles: holy shit.
Arthur: yeah. so next time you see him, just know: that man would burn the world down for his wife and daughter
Charles: ARTHUR. EXPLAIN. NOW.
Arthur: explain what?
Charles: “OSCAR’S WIFE AND DAUGHTER”???
Arthur: ohhh yeah. oscar has a kid. her name’s Bee. cutest little girl ever.
Charles: WHAT DO YOU MEAN OSCAR HAS A KID.
Arthur: i mean oscar. has a kid.
Charles: SINCE WHEN.
Arthur: since like. three years ago.
Charles: HE HAD A CHILD AT TWENTY?
Arthur: yeah, man. wild, right?
Charles: WHY AM I JUST NOW FINDING OUT.
Arthur: idk. you never asked.
Charles: WHY WOULD I ASK “HEY ARTHUR, DOES OSCAR HAVE A SECRET FAMILY”???
Arthur: fair point.
Charles: DOES THIS MAKE ME A GRANDPA.
Arthur: oh my god. wait.
Arthur: it kinda does.
Arthur: papy charles.
Charles: I WILL MURDER YOU.
Arthur: relax, grandpa.
Charles: I AM NOT A GRANDPA.
Arthur: okay, old man.
Charles: FOCUS.
Charles: WHY DID NO ONE THINK TO MENTION THIS TO ME.
Arthur: because oscar’s private? plus, it’s not like it changes anything. he’s still the same oscar. just, y’know. a dad.
Charles: I CANNOT PROCESS THIS.
Arthur: bro, when i first found out, i thought he was crazy.
Arthur: like. imagine being twenty and deciding “yeah, i’m gonna be a dad now.” insane behavior.
Arthur: but honestly? he’s so good at it.
Arthur: like. weirdly good.
Charles: HOW.
Arthur: idk man. some people are just meant to be parents.
Arthur: he’s just so patient with her. like, you know how nothing ever rattles him? that times a hundred.
Arthur: she threw a toy car at his head once and he just smiled and said “nice aim, Bee.”
Charles: ???
Arthur: i’m telling you. completely obsessed with that kid.
Arthur: also she calls him “Papa” and it’s the cutest thing ever.
Charles: I NEED TO LIE DOWN.
Arthur: is it because you’re old now.
Charles: I AM GOING TO END YOU.
Charles: OSCAR.
Charles: I NEED ANSWERS RIGHT NOW.
Oscar: …About?
Lando: What did you do now.
Carlos: This feels serious.
Charles: DO YOU HAVE A CHILD???
Pierre: Excuse me?????
George: What.
Alex: No way.
Lando: WHAT?!?!
Fernando: Interesting.
Lewis: Oscar?
Oscar: Yeah.
Lando: WHAT DO YOU MEAN YEAH????
Lando: THAT’S NOT A CASUAL QUESTION.
Lando: “YEAH” IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE ANSWER.
Carlos: Wait, what.
Daniel: Oh my god.
Pierre: BACK UP.
Charles: HOW DOES ARTHUR KNOW BEFORE ME???
Oscar: He met her.
Lando: HE MET HER???
Pierre: SHE EXISTS IN A FORM THAT CAN BE MET???
George: OSCAR.
Max: Is everyone going to keep screaming?
Charles: OSCAR YOU HAVE A CHILD AND NEVER TOLD US???
Oscar: No one asked.
Lando: OH I’M SO SORRY, LET ME JUST RANDOMLY ASK EVERYONE ON THE GRID IF THEY SECRETLY HAVE CHILDREN.
Alex: Three years, mate. You’ve had a kid for three years and never said a word?
Oscar: Yeah.
Pierre: I am STUNNED.
George: STUNNED.
Lando: LIKE ACTUALLY YOU HAVE A THREE-YEAR-OLD HUMAN CHILD????
Oscar: Yes, Lando.
Lando: I need to sit down.
Charles: WHY HAVE YOU NEVER BROUGHT HER TO A RACE.
Oscar: Because I promised my wife I wouldn’t buy her a kart until she’s five, and if I bring her to a race, that’s all she’ll want for her birthday.
Carlos: …She’s already obsessed, isn’t she.
Oscar: Oh, completely.
Oscar: She watches onboards for fun.
Pierre: Onboards.
Lando: WHAT THREE-YEAR-OLD WATCHES ONBOARDS????
Oscar: Mine.
Logan: Bee is kinda obsessed lol
Lando: BEE?!?! HER NAME IS BEE?!?
Oscar: Beatrice. But we call her Bee.
Oscar: She also gives commentary.
George: Commentary.
Oscar: Yeah. She said George is a bit too careful, but she respects it.
George: …Tell her I appreciate that.
Oscar: She thinks Alex is underrated.
Alex: Smart girl.
Oscar: She says Max and Charles are the fastest.
Charles: Oh, she has taste.
Max: A future World Champion.
Lando: WHO DOES SHE THINK I AM THEN????
Oscar: She says you talk too much.
Lando: I AM BEING BULLIED BY A TODDLER.
Oscar: And she also doesn’t understand why you always “let” Max pass you.
Max: I like her.
Lando: THIS IS CHARACTER ASSASSINATION.
Charles: I need to meet this child.
Max: Me too.
Fernando: Same.
Lewis: When’s she coming to the paddock?
Oscar: She’s not, because if she meets Max and Charles in person, I will not hear the end of it.
Charles: Oh, we have to meet her.
Lando: NOT UNTIL I WIN HER OVER.
Lando: WHO DOES SHE SUPPORT????
Oscar: She’s three, Lando.
Lando: THAT DOESN’T ANSWER MY QUESTION.
Oscar: She says she supports “everyone.”
Max: That’s diplomatic.
Charles: No, that’s suspicious.
Charles: Who does she really support?
Oscar: …She says she supports whoever wins.
Pierre: OH SHE’S A GLORY HUNTER.
Carlos: NO LOYALTY.
Alex: A ruthless fan. I respect it.
Lando: I AM SUFFERING.
Oscar: She does like McLaren. She just thinks Ferrari is “prettier.”
Charles: YES.
Carlos: This child has taste.
Lando: I AM LOSING TO FERRARI ON VIBES ALONE????
Oscar: Sounds like it.
George: This is all well and good, but I need to know—what does she think about you, Oscar?
Oscar: …
Lando: OH MY GOD.
Daniel: OH THIS IS GONNA BE GOOD.
Oscar: She says I’m her favorite after Max and Charles.
Charles: YES.
Max: Acceptable.
Oscar: But she also says I have the best helmet.
Fernando: That’s a win.
Lando: I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU HAVE A WHOLE SECRET DAUGHTER WHO BULLIES ME FROM AFAR.
Oscar: She doesn’t bully you.
Oscar: She just doesn’t understand why you let Max pass you all the time.
Max: A wise child.
Lando: I HATE IT HERE.
Charles: I demand a meeting.
Max: Me too.
Pierre: We’re all uncles now.
Lando: NO. NOT UNTIL SHE ACCEPTS ME.
Oscar: Good luck with that. She also says you sound funny when you yell.
Lando: I’M GONNA CRY.
Lando: I NEED A SECOND CHANCE.
Lando: I CAN WIN HER OVER.
Max: She sounds very intelligent.
Charles: Yes. Clearly, she has excellent judgment.
Lando: STOP SUCKING UP TO HER, YOU’RE ALREADY HER FAVORITE.
Carlos: So what does she think about the other drivers?
Oscar: Do you really want to know?
Pierre: Oh absolutely.
Fernando: I am prepared.
Oscar: Okay.
Oscar: She thinks George sounds like Peppa Pig.
George: …
Lewis: Oh my god.
Alex: OH THIS IS PERFECT.
Lando: WE WILL NEVER LET THIS GO.
George: I AM LOSING TO A CARTOON PIG.
Oscar: She heard you on the TV and asked why Peppa was driving a car.
Pierre: No, you ARE a cartoon pig.
Alex: This is the best day of my life.
George: I hate all of you.
Oscar: Moving on…
Oscar: She thinks Fernando is the “oldest driver ever.”
Charles: At least she knows the history of the sport.
Fernando: I’m taking that as a compliment.
Oscar: She also says Yuki is small and should be allowed to stand on the seat so he can see better.
Yuki: I AM NOT THAT SHORT.
Pierre: SHE SPEAKS THE TRUTH.
Oscar: Oh, and she likes Lewis because she likes his earrings.
Lewis: That is the only valid reason to like me.
Oscar: She also thinks you’re the boss of everyone.
Lewis: That is also true.
Lando: PLEASE TELL ME SHE HAS A TERRIBLE OPINION ABOUT CHARLES OR MAX.
Oscar: She thinks Charles crashes too much but is “really, really fast.”
Max: Accurate.
Oscar: And she says Max is “really good, but scary.”
Max: I am scary.
Charles: No, you just race like a maniac.
Oscar: She also thinks you and Carlos are best friends because you wear the same color.
Carlos: I am okay with this.
Lando: WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO LOSES HERE.
Oscar: Get better PR.
Oscar: She likes Daniel because she says his voice sounds happy.
Daniel: SHE IS SO REAL FOR THAT.
Charles: So she wants to race??
Oscar: Oh yeah. She watches all the onboards. She says the Red Bull looks "like a rocket ship," and McLaren is "super fast now," but Ferrari is "a little bit broken."
Carlos: You HAVE to bring her to a race.
Lando: Okay but actually. Do you think she’ll do karting?
Oscar: Yeah. Probably.
Oscar: She already yells “Lights out and away we go” when she runs down the hallway.
Fernando: Oh, she’s one of us.
Lando: She’s already got the spirit.
George: Unlike Lando.
Lando: I AM GOING TO FIGHT YOU.
Max: No, because you’ll lose.
Lando: I’M STILL PROCESSING. OSCAR HAS A WHOLE CHILD. A CHILD WHO GIVES HIM PERFORMANCE REVIEWS.
Oscar: Yeah, she told me my race suit is “not very pretty.”
Charles: What does she think of Max’s?
Oscar: “It’s blue. That’s okay.” She likes yours more, because Red is good.
Charles: She has excellent taste.
Oscar: She also said, “You should win more too.”
Lando: Has she ever said that to Max?
Oscar: No, because she thinks he already wins enough.
Max: Wise.
George: What does she think about Mercedes?
Oscar: She likes the silver one better than the black one because “it’s shinier.”
Lewis: Fair.
Oscar: But she said, “It’s not as pretty as red.”
Oscar: She also thinks all our helmets should have “more animals and less boring stuff.”
Lando: SHE IS THE FUTURE OF THIS SPORT.
Oscar: Then she told me, “You need a koala on yours.”
Alex: That’s fair.
Lando: OKAY BUT DOES SHE HAVE ANY RACE STRATEGY OPINIONS.
Oscar: Of course.
Charles: Please share.
Oscar: The other day, I was watching a race replay, and she climbed onto the couch next to me, stared at the screen, and went, “Why are you still on those tires?”
Carlos: HAHAHA.
Oscar: And I said, “Because we haven’t pitted yet,” and she just shook her head and went, “That’s silly. You should get new ones now.”
Lando: SHE’S SO SMART.
Pierre: Does she understand tire compounds?
Oscar: She knows soft tires are fast, medium tires are okay, and hard tires are “boring and ugly.”
Charles: Honestly, she gets it.
Lando: NO BUT ACTUALLY DOES SHE HAVE THOUGHTS ON DRS.
Oscar: Oh, yeah. She calls it the “flappy thing.”
Pierre: I love her.
Oscar: She saw an onboard where I opened it, and she just went, “Oooooh, flappy thing makes you go fast.”
Max: I mean, she’s right.
Alex: Does she like overtakes?
Oscar: Yeah, but she only gets really excited when I do them. Otherwise, she just watches quietly and then claps if it looks cool.
Charles: Does she cheer for anyone else?
Oscar: One time, she saw you make a double overtake and went, “Ohhhhh, I like him.”
Carlos: Betrayal.
Oscar: She likes you too, don’t worry. But I think she just thought that move was cool.
Carlos: I suppose I will allow it.
George: Oscar, have you explained to her why Lando hasn’t won yet?
Oscar: Not really. I just told her, “It’s really hard to win in F1,” and she thought about it for a second and went, “Not for Max.”
Max: HAHAHA.
Charles: She is actually too smart.
Lando: I AM BEING DRAGGED BY A TODDLER WHO DOESN’T EVEN KNOW HER OWN LAST NAME YET.
Oscar: She does know her last name, actually.
Lando: GOOD FOR HER. I’M STILL SUFFERING.
Carlos: Has she asked why you haven’t won a race either, Oscar?
Oscar: No.
Pierre: WHY NOT??
Oscar: I think she assumes I’m too busy taking care of her.
George: Honestly, fair.
Lando: I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE YOU’RE A DAD.
Oscar: Believe it.
Lando: I CAN’T. AND NOW I’M GOING TO HAVE AN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS BECAUSE YOUR TINY CHILD THINKS I’M BAD AT MY JOB.
Oscar: She didn’t say you were bad. Just that you haven’t won yet.
Lando: SAME THING.
Oscar: It’s okay, Lando. I’ll tell her you’re trying your best.
Lando: STOPPIT.
Lando: NO ACTUALLY I CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS. WHAT ELSE HAS SHE SAID.
Oscar: What do you mean?
Lando: I MEAN ABOUT F1. ABOUT ME. ABOUT YOU. ABOUT ANYTHING. I NEED TO KNOW HOW BADLY A THREE-YEAR-OLD HAS DRAGGED ME BEHIND THE VIRTUAL SAFETY CAR.
Oscar: Well, she’s got a lot of opinions.
Charles: What kind of opinions?
Oscar: She has told me she doesn’t like safety cars because they’re “boring,” and that red flags are annoying because she has to wait.
Max: I respect it.
Oscar: But she does like when there’s a big crash because she gets to say, “Uh oh!”
Lando: NO BECAUSE IMAGINE YOU BIN IT AND YOU HEAR A TINY LITTLE “UH OH” OVER THE RADIO.
Max: I would retire.
Oscar: She also said if I ever win a race, she wants to do the shoey with me.
Lando: THAT’S HORRIBLE. DON’T LET HER DO THAT.
Oscar: Felicity already said no.
Lando: Good. I’m still recovering from the fact that you have a whole wife and a daughter.
Oscar: You’ll be fine.
Lando: WILL I.
Oscar: No.
Lando: GREAT.
Lando: I’M NOT OVER IT.
Carlos: We know.
Lando: YOU HAVE A DAUGHTER.
Oscar: I do.
Lando: A WHOLE DAUGHTER.
Oscar: That is usually how it works.
Lando: YOU NEVER TOLD ME.
Oscar: You never asked.
Lando: WHO ASKS, “HEY, DO YOU SECRETLY HAVE A WHOLE TODDLER?”
Charles: I might start.

Emma didn’t make it to her planned 9am pilates class the next morning, much to absolutely no one’s surprise. The headache that pounded behind her eyes the moment her alarm went off much too early had her silencing her phone.
“Who did I think I was last night? Why in the world did you allow me to think I’d be human enough to make a 9am class, Verstappen?” Emma moans as she pads out into the kitchen a few hours later. She collapses theatrically into a chair at the kitchen counter, her head immediately falling forward, forehead resting against the cool marble.
Max chuckles from his spot at the stove where he stands frying up some eggs. The breakfast this morning wasn’t exceptionally fancy, but the thought behind it was the same. “I tried to turn your alarm off in the car last night but you yelled at me. Something about how you’d need to sweat out all the alcohol you’d drank.”
“I’m never drinking ever again.” She groans, tapping her forehead against the counter a few times.
Max snorts, sliding two of the fried eggs onto a plate before sliding them over to Emma along with a fork. “How many times have you said that before?”
Emma lifts her head off the counter to glare at Max, “More than five, less than ten.”
Max pushed the eggs further towards her, encouraging her to eat. “I’m going to go on a run after I eat, do you want to come with me? Sweat out that alcohol like you wanted to last night?”
“Don’t you use my words against me, I’m injured.”
“You’re hungover.”
“Same thing.” Emma snaps but there’s no bite behind her words. “You don’t have to hang out with me all the time during an off week, Max. I’m just your assistant.” Her face softens into something more serious, her voice dropping.
“You are not just my assistant, Sunshine.” Max corrects, eyes serious. He was unwilling to allow Emma to self-deprecate like that, even this early in the morning. “You’re my friend who just happens to run my life with military precision. Besides, I like hanging out with you.”
Emma grins, not bothering to hide her pleasure at his words. “Okay, fine but I if I pass out, you’re responsible for making sure I get home safe.”
“Of course. Now eat, you need something in your stomach before you do any sort of cardio.”
She shakes her head before popping a forkful of egg into her mouth, a satisfied hum scratching at the back of her throat. Max swallows thickly at the sound. “These are perfect. If this whole racing thing doesn’t work out, you should consider opening up a fried egg restaurant.”
Max chuckles, cracking another few eggs into the pan for himself. He slots a few pieces of bread into the toaster before pulling out the butter and Emma’s favorite jam. The sheer domesticity of the moment has something deep in his chest aching with familiarity. Emma eating quietly as she scrolls through her social media feeds, Max standing at the stove watching over his own eggs. It was a silent glimpse into something he’d never known was possible for him.
“Are you volunteering to be my taste tester?”
“Just add it to my many different job titles: Emotional Support Assistant, Professional Egg Taster. My resume is going to be stacked after working for you.”
The thought of Emma not working for him anymore sends a strange trill of anxiety through him. He sways at the stove a bit when the thought races through his mind. Between the way she’d leaned into him while he steadied her in the elevator last night and the way her hug had lingered a little longer than necessary when he finally was able to get Emma into bed, the way she’d become such a solid fixture in his life so quickly made Max’s head spin.
When his eggs are ready, he slides them onto a plate before sitting next to Emma at the counter. They sit in comfortable silence for a few moments, the quiet only broken by the sounds of toast crunching and forks clinking against porcelain.
“Okay, I think I can do a short run without regretting my entire existence.” Emma says after popping the last bits of egg into her mouth, fork scraping against the now empty plate. “How long did you want to go for?”
“Ten miles?”
Emma nearly spits out the sip of orange juice. When Max doesn’t laugh, she shakes her head. “Oh, you’re serious?”
Max chuckles. “Miami is next weekend. It’s hot and humid as fuck down there, I need to make sure my endurance is better than it was in Jeddah. I was dying after.”
Emma’s mind flickers back to after the race in Jeddah. He’d been flushed such a deep scarlet, sweat making his blond hair stick haphazardly to his forehead. After the post-race celebrations, it had been straight into the ice bath for him, a little tradition that Emma didn’t mind being present for in the least.
“Ten miles sounds ambitious for someone who’s main form of exercise last night was lifting my drink to my lips over and over…and over.”
“You don’t have to come with me, you can stay here on the couch with Jimmy and Sassy. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.”
Emma shakes her head, waving her hand dismissively. “No, drunk me was right. I need to sweat out all of my bad decisions from last night.”
“You can spend the rest of the afternoon rotting on the couch. Crane wanted to stream some iRacing later, if that’s okay with you.”
Emma shrugs as she moves towards the hallway. “Fine with me as long as you don’t start yelling at him again when he runs you into the wall.”
“He did it on purpose!” Max protests, laugh rumbling in the back of his throat.
“It’s a video game!” Emma argues back with a laugh before walking down the hall to get changed.
Max just rolls his eyes before turning back to the dishes that need washing before they can leave. He tosses everything in the sink before filling it with hot water and soap, letting them soak so he can let them be this afternoon’s chores.
It doesn’t take long and before Max is even finished wiping off the counter, Emma is back in the kitchen, dressed in a matching set of mint green leggings and sports bra. When he turns towards the sounds of her shuffling down the hall, he has to lean against the counter for support. There were several inches of bare skin between the bottom of the top she had on and her leggings. He swallowed thickly at the sight of her navy blue and red jeweled belly button ring. That was new, he thought idly, not minding one bit how it matched his colors.
“Max, are you okay?” Emma interrupted his perusal of her body, eyebrow arched in quiet question.
Max clears his throat awkwardly. “Uh..” He shakes his head, the thoughts springing up in his mind a bit spicy for this early in the morning. “Yeah. Yep, totally fine. You ready?”
Emma reaches up, pulling her ponytail a bit tighter. “No, but lets go anyway.”
With a chuckle, Max’s hand finds the small of Emma’s back as he leads her out of the apartment, happy to be moving towards the door so the temptation of doing other cardio activities with her doesn’t get a chance to take hold. “I’ll go easy on you, Sunshine.”
Emma rolls her eyes, “Yeah. I’m sure you will.”
Twitter user918 - anyone else see Max this morning in Monaco with that blonde? Max always seems happier when she’s around.
The familiar sounds of Max’s sim rig filled the quiet of the apartment later that afternoon. Emma scrolled on her phone as she listened idly to the hum of the computer fan, the click of the paddle shifters, and the focused murmur of Max’s voice as he chatted back and forth with the other guys that were on the stream. On the largest monitor, his virtual car navigated a challenging corner on the digital rendition of the track in Spa.
Unseen by the thousands of viewers that were glued to the Twitch stream, Emma was sprawled out comfortable on the large sectional sofa behind his setup, Sassy curled up on her lap purring away happily. A half-eaten bowl of popcorn sat forgotten on the coffee table, the comforting voices of President Barlet and his staff softly filtered though the air from her laptop screen as she lost herself in an episode of The West Wing.
The afternoon sun, now slung lower in the sky, cast a warm glow over the scene, a calm picture of relaxed domesticity that had begun to define the way Emma and Max existed together in their off-time.
Suddenly, Max’s focused concentration seemed to waver for just a beat as a second, feminine voice was picked up by his sensitive microphone. He briefly muted, finger darting over the red button as his eyes flickered off-screen towards Emma, a small, private smily tugging at his lips as he spoke.
The chat immediately exploded.
user200 wait, who is he talking to??? User0990 I swear I just heard a girl’s voice in the background??? User009 spill the tea Max! Who’s the mystery woman that’s got you blushing like that???
Crane saw the comments flooding in as he watched Max’s video instead of the race he should have been paying attention to. “Oi! Max! No distractions, focus on the apex!”
Max’s cheeks flushed slightly, a fact not lost on the chat, as he shook his head. “I am focused!” He argued after he unmuted himself.
“You are not.” Emma called from the couch, hitting the pause button on her show. “He is not focused, Crane!” She called, enjoying the way Max’s head snapped back in her direction.
Chat exploded when they heard Emma’s voice.
User099 I HEARD HER AGAIN. User334 who is it Max?! Come on, spill!! User000 we’re not going to let this go until we see her. User009 she even SOUNDS pretty. User982 I bet its the same blonde that he was seen with this morning running in the marina. >>>user334 he was WHAT???
Max sighed, shaking his head. “Relax guys, it’s just Emma. You know, my assistant? She’s just chilling on the couch.”
The chat went wild again, a flurry of new messages flooding the screen.
User333 EMMA??? THEEEEEE EMMA??? The only one on Red Bull’s payroll that can tame the lion??? user003 oh to be a personal assistant to THE Max Verstappen and live in Monaco. User020 wait, isn’t it sort of weird for his assistant to be at his apartment on a Saturday afternoon? >>>user000 yeah, seems a bit unprofessional, no? >>>user222 adults can be friends outside of work guys. User100 COME SAY HI EMMA!!! >>>user888 yeah, we want to see the girl that’s got Max behaving in the media pen the last few races. User928 idk guys. The way he looks at her is giving ‘I have the biggest crush on you’ instead of ‘I am very much your boss’
Max’s reluctance was palpable. He liked having this space, his online racing world, separate from his very really and increasingly complicated life with Emma. Sharing her with the outside world felt…intrusive. Like he was revealing a piece of him that he’d rather keep away from the prying eyes of the public. So much of his life was already fodder for public consumption. His relationship with Emma felt…different. Like it was something that needed to be protected.
He muted again briefly before turning his head. “They want to say hi.”
Emma’s brows knit together, “Who?”
Max swept a hand towards his monitors. “Everyone.”
“Is that cool?”
Max nodded, eyes flicking back to where the chat was losing their mind. Crane and the rest of the guys were quiet, knowing not to push Max into revealing more of his private life than he was comfortable with. They were respectful with his boundaries even if the general public could be a little intense sometimes. “Only if you’re comfortable with it.”
Emma contemplated her options for a moment before grinning. She’d chatted with Crane and the other guys before when they had played COD the other night off stream so she was comfortable with them. Her social media had been getting more and more popular since she’d started being spotted with Max in the paddock and on TV feeds during race weekends. While the attention was a little overwhelming, she admired the enthusiasm of the fans and knew they were important to Max.
Emma surprised herself when she stood from the couch, pulling at the hem of the crewneck sweatshirt she’d pulled on over her bike shorts earlier after her shower. Leaning into the camera frame, she grinned at the lens, her gaze finding the stream as she waved at Crane and the rest of the crew. Her blond hair, freshly washed and hanging loose around her face, fell over her shoulder in a sheet of gold. Max didn’t move when it tumbled low over his shoulder when she got closer to where he was sitting.
“Hi guys!” She waggled her fingers at the camera, smirk tugging at her full lips.
Max sucked in a breath, the scent of her vanilla and honey shampoo wrapping itself around his senses.
The chat exploded.
User738 oh my GOD she’s gorgeous. User928 no wonder Max was distracted >>>user9298 If I were Max I’d never get ANYTHING done. User0021 where is your crewneck from??? That color is perfection on you!! User300 someone start a petition for Emma to become a regular on these. I’d watch anything she’s on. User928 we need a hair tutorial PLEASE, your curls are perfection. User918 No because why is Emma the best part of this entire stream tho???
Emma watched as the compliments flooded in, pink tinging the apples of her cheeks. She hadn’t expected to be so warmly welcomed by his fans. Max smirked too, secretly liking the chaos playing out in front of him after all. The reluctance to share Emma with the world was quickly replaced with a mixture of pride and inflated ego.
“You guys are so sweet, thank you! The crewneck is ancient but I think I got it from Aritzia a few seasons ago!” She answered a few other questions quickly as the timer for the team’s break wound down.
Eventually though, it was time for the next heat to start so Crane had to attempt to reign the chat back in before the next race began. Emma stood up straight, her hand resting on Max’s shoulder in comforting and surprisingly possessive gesture that not a single person on the stream missed or ignored. More than a few comments called out the way her fingers flexed ever so slightly into the soft fabric of Max’s old t-shirt.
“Crane, if you need me to keep Max in line from here, let me know. I’m right over there, three episodes deep in season seven of West Wing.”
The chat continued to buzz with excitement long after Emma disappeared and the next race had begun. Max, though still thoroughly flustered, couldn’t help the small smile that lingered on his face. They liked her. Seeing her so easily win over this part of his world, a part he usually kept separate from his personal life was…nice. Really nice. He glanced over at Emma a few times while there was a pause in the action, watching her now that she was thoroughly engrossed in the episode that was playing on her laptop, a prickle of warmth and something that felt a lot like pride, swelled in his chest.
Maybe sharing her wasn’t so bad after all.
Maybe.
If there was one thing Emma loved about living full-time in Monaco, it was the farmer’s market that set up shop every Sunday morning down the street from Max’s apartment. It was a touch on the touristy side but there were so many vendors that had local produce grown just over the border in France and Italy along with fresh seafood and other proteins from farmers and butchers. If she was home on a Sunday morning, you’d always find Emma down the street wandering through the stalls.
This Sunday was no different. Emma was up before the sun had fully chased away the inky darkness of night, a quiet confidence in her movements as she pulled on a comfortable sweater and jeans. Her large tote bag, already filled with a few reusable shopping bags, sat waiting for her by the door. The apartment was still quiet, the only sounds keeping her company this early were the hum of the refrigerator and the distant lapping of waves against the harbor wall. Max was likely still fast asleep after his late-night streaming session with Red Line the night before.
She didn’t mind though, going to the market alone. In fact, she embraced the quiet stillness that leaving the apartment this early afforded her. Miami was coming up and they were leaving early Wednesday morning to head to the States, so Emma was eager to have a bit more quiet time before she was catapulted into the chaos of a race weekend.
As she reached for the door, the quiet was broken by the sound of Max’s bedroom door creaking open. He appeared in the hallway, hair adorably rumpled and sticking out haphazardly every which way, eyes still half closed as he squatted over at Emma.
“Where are you sneaking off to?” He mumbled, voice thick with sleep.
Emma turned, a soft smile on her face. “Just off to the farmers market, sleepyhead. Don’t worry, I’ll make you a proper breakfast when I get back. I shouldn’t be gone long. Any special requests? There was this spectacular little bakery there for the first time a few weeks ago, the croissants were half butter I swear. I can get a few? You liked the almond ones I got last time, didn’t you?”
Max looked at her curiously, a bit stunned that she remembered how he’d preferred the almond filled pastries over the plain ones. He leaned against the doorframe, still slightly disoriented, as he considered her question for a moment. “Forget the list, Sunshine.” He murmured, pushing himself off the wall and shuffling back towards his bedroom. “Give me a minute and I’ll come with you.”
Emma blinked after him, her mouth forming a perfect little O of surprise. “You don’t have to! I can go by myself.”
“Give me five minutes and I’ll be ready. You’re always gushing about this market, I want to see what all the fuss is about myself.”
Emma chuckled, shaking her head. “Okay, okay but hurry! If I miss those peaches from the farmer in Nice like I did last week, I’m going to be cranky.”
Max shook his head before ducking into his room. “I’ll be quick. I don’t want to have a grumpy Emma on my hands all day.”
***
The early morning air at the market was cool and crisp, a gentle breeze carrying the mingled scents of freshly picked fruit, flowers, and the salty sea air blowing in off the water. Sunlight dappled through the canvas awnings of the stalls, casting a golden glow on the colorful displays of produce and freshly cut flowers. Emma, with her tote bag slung casually over her shoulder, moved with a comfortable familiarity through the early crowd, her eyes bright as she examined plump tomatoes and fragrant bunches of herbs.
Max followed dutifully behind, still blinking sleepily every once in a while. He’d stayed up much too late last night but the cool air but watching Emma duck between stalls without a care in the world was enough to pull him out of his tired haze.
Emma stoped at a stall overflowing with vibrant strawberries, their sweet scent intoxicating. She carefully picked through the small baskets that held quarts and pints of the ruby red fruit, her brow furrowed in concentration as she made sure she was guaranteed to pick the best of the bunch. Max, who had been idly watching her from a few meters away, wandered over to see what she was concentrating so hard at.
“Those look good.” He murmured, peering over her shoulder.
Emma felt his presence before she noticed him standing behind her. He smelled faintly of his body wash she had bought him last week at the pharmacy, his warmth radiating off of him as he stood closely examining the strawberries Emma had clutched in her hands. She tipped her head up slightly to catch his eye, surprised that he was already looking down at her with a soft smile on his lips. The way her stomach flipped at the way Max was looking at her was something she couldn’t ignore, despite her every effort to do exactly that. She should not be liking the way Max’s blue eyes had been watching her all morning, the way he tracked her no matter where she was.
The way she felt under his watch was dangerous.
“I bought some from here last week. They were so good. The vendor said they were picked this morning. Can you imagine these with some fresh cream and a bit of sugar? Oh my goodness.”
“Buy three cartons.” Max said, pulling out his wallet from his back pocket without hesitation.
He wanted multiples of anything that made Emma smile like that.
He paid the vendor and turned away from the stall at the same time Emma did, her shoulder brushing his with a casual tenderness that had his heart aching. She reached into the bag where the cartons of strawberries were, plucking a small one off the top of the pile. Emma paused before raising it towards Max’s lips. “Here, try. I swear, these are the best thing you’ve ever tasted.”
Max struggled to keep the surprise off his face, feeling the way the tips of his ears turned pink at the casually intimate gesture. He obediently opened his mouth, sinking into the way the Emma’s dove-gray eyes sparkled as his lips closed around the proffered strawberry. The sweetness that burst across his tongue as he bit into the flesh of the fruit had Max’s eyes fluttering closed, a satisfied groan rumbling at the back of his throat. He was quiet for a moment, enjoying how closely Emma’s body was to his.
“So good.” He murmured, his eyes never leaving hers in a way that had Emma’s stomach fluttering. The way he said it had her wondering if he was just talking about the strawberry though.
After a few moments, Emma took a slight step away, unable to come up with any more excuses to remain so close to Max. She wandered away, towards a flower vendor, as Max watched after her. Something in his chest squeezed at the casual way she glanced over her shoulder, as if she was checking to make sure he was following her. He joined her a few beats later, watching as she examined a colorful bunch of tulips.
“They remind me of home.” She murmured, plucking out a particularly stunning bouquet of pink and yellow blooms.
Max was surprised at her comment, considering how she felt about going home and her parents attitude but he supposed even he could be nostalgic about the place that raised him, even if their hometown held painful memories for him as well.
“Are you going to buy your girlfriend the tulips or will you just let her make heart-eyes at you until she purchases them herself?” The merchant teases from his place behind his table.
Emma huffs a small laugh but doesn’t bother correcting the elderly man. Her head simply swiveled around and up to glance back at Max. “Yeah, do I have buy my own flowers today, Maxie?” She teased, grin stretching across her face.
Max simply rolled his eyes, casual move belying the storm of butterflies creating a tornado in his stomach at the man’s assumption and the way Emma was playing along. “Who am I to say no to such a pretty woman?”
The way Emma bit her lip in delight had Max stifling a groan as he reached back into his wallet, not for the first time that morning. The old man chuckled as he took Max’s credit card from him before turning away to wrap up the bundle of tulips that Emma had picked out.

Max never usually woke up to thunderstorms. The loud clash of titans in the sky was never quite enough to rouse him from his sleep. It wasn’t that he was a deep sleeper. It was just that the loud and bright storms that blew into Monaco in the spring never bothered him enough to be a burden.
Until the night before him and Emma were due to leave for Miami.
He didn’t realize what woke him up at first. It had been several hours since he’d turned in, leaving Emma alone at the piano while she worked out her last bits of nervous tension before heading to bed herself. Max had been deep asleep for a while, so when he was pulled from the deep, pristine lake of his dreams, the cobwebs of sleep took a bit longer to shake themselves from his brain.
He blinked awake, sleep blurring at the edge of his vision as he reached for his bearings.
His bed.
At night.
Rain beating against the windows, flashes of lighting streaking across the sky.
Light shining under the gap in the doorway.
That caught Max’s attention. He glanced at his phone: 2:24 am. There was no way Emma was still awake, right? He listened carefully, expecting to hear the now-familiar strains of the piano. She hadn’t seemed upset when he’d left her earlier in the evening, or else he would’ve stayed up with her.
He sat and listened but was met with only the sound of the rain whispering against the windows and a distant crack of thunder.
But the lights. There was a least one hall light on outside, maybe more judging by the stark brightness that crawled across the carpet in his bedroom. Max tugged on a shirt as he stumbled his way towards the door, limbs still stiff with sleep.
The door creaked open and Max paused again. There wasn’t any sound of the piano but he did hear the gentle clinks and sounds of movement softly floating out of the kitchen. Surely no burglar would be making themselves at home in the light, preparing a sandwich, Max thought as he padded down the hallway towards the sounds.
“Sunshine?” His voice was thicker than his vision, rough with exhaustion.
Near the stove, Emma startled so suddenly she nearly dropped the baking sheet she held in her hands. “Max! Oh my God!” She gasps, clutching at her throat with a oven-mitt clad hand. “You scared the shit out of me.”
Max’s eyes took in the scene before him. Every single inch of counter space was taken up by sacks of flour and sugar, mixing bowls of several different sizes, dozens of muffins and a few loaves of freshly baked bread. It was then that the smell of what was going on hit Max’s nose. Bread. Freshly baked from the smell of it. Yeasty and warm, slightly sweet at the end when you swallowed. Something sweet too, cinnamon like the perfume Emma wore. Spicy with a touch of earth.
“Are you…baking at 2 in the morning?”
Emma looked like a child who got caught with their hand in the cookie jar. “Ummm…” Her eyes swung comically from left to right before flickering back to Max. “Yeah?”
Max scrubbed at his face with his hands, struggling to figure out if he should be concerned or if this was normal behavior from the blonde. “Why?”
Emma worried at her lip, the tips of her ears going pink. “You’re going to make fun of me.”
Max walked towards the counter, the chair whispering against the tile as he pulled it out to sit. “I won’t make fun of you, I promise. Is everything okay? You were fine when I went to bed.”
Emma’s gaze swung from Max’s towards the storm that beat against the apartment’s windows. “I really hate thunderstorms. I’m terrified of them, really.” Her cheeks heats at the confession, memories of being made fun of for being scared flickering through her mind. “And when one happens, the only thing that can calm me down is to bake. It helps me focus on something that I have total control over. The tunnel vision is…soothing.”
Emma chewed at the bottom of her lip. She’d never told anyone that before. She’d always assumed her fear of thunderstorms was irrational. That’s what her mother had told her when she was little. There was nothing to be afraid of and she was being silly. Any big feelings she had were always minimized into ‘Oh, Emma’s being a drama queen today’ to discount her experience. So she’d learned to push them down, learned to cope the best way she knew how so she didn’t bother anyone else with her problems. And that coping ended up being baking.
Max watched from across the kitchen as Emma went somewhere in her head for a few moments. He could tell the way her eyes went unfocused and she paused as if a memory had taken hold and she couldn’t shake it.
“Why would I make fun of you for being scared of something or figuring out a way to cope with that fear?” Max narrowed his eyes at Emma like he was trying to understand a piece of art.
“Why wouldn’t you?” There was no sarcasm behind her question. It was genuine and that fact shattered Max’s heart into jagged splinters.
Max rose slowly before rounding the counter, stopping right in front of Emma. He gently took the pan she held in her hand and set it on the stove before turning back to her. Max was so close, Emma could feel the heat of his breath skate over the top of her head. “It is not normal to make the people you care about feel insignificant and small at the expense of a joke, Sunshine. You do know that, don’t you?”
Logically, Emma knew this was true. Knew that the way she was brought up, with it’s veiled bullying and penchant for sweeping things under the rug, was not normal but she couldn’t help feeling tied to that way of looking at the world.
When she doesn’t say anything, Max continues. “I think that you finding a way to cope with your fear in a productive way is worthy of praise, Sunshine. This storm is loud and anxiety is valid.” Max pauses, a slight grin playing at the edge of his lips. He watched Emma’s eyes track the movement before they returned back to his. “And why the hell would I make fun of something that results in me having freshly baked bread for the rest of my life?”
The implication hung heavy in the air as the atmosphere shifted into something close to snapping. The scent of warm bread and cinnamon seemed to become heavier, mingling with the electric charge of the storm that was baring down on them outside. Max’s gaze softened, his earlier teasing replaced by raw sincerity that made Emma’s breath catch in her throat. He saw the lingering hurt in her eyes, the ingrained expectation of ridicule. A wave of fierce protectiveness welled up in his chest, his only desire in that moment was making sure she understood how serious he was about her.
Max shifted even closer towards Emma, closing the final distance between them. She tipped her head back slightly, her gaze locked on his, vulnerability shining in her eyes as she looked up at him. The rhythmic drumming of the rain against the windows faded into a distant buzz, the sound of her own heartbeat hammering against her ribcage the only sound echoing in her ears.
Max’s eyes drifted down, almost against his will, to her lips. They were slightly parted, the dim light of the kitchen highlighting the delicate curve of the cupids bow Max often found himself starting at. He hadn’t intended to, hadn’t even consciously thought about what he was doing, but that undeniable pull, the magnetic force that both of them seemed powerless to resist, took over.
He leaned in, the movement so slow it was almost imperceptible, his breath warm against her cheek. Max’s lips just barely brushed against hers, a feather light touch that sent a jolt of pure electricity zinging through Emma’s veins. It was a fleeting graze, a silent test of the waters that had been swirling into a hurricane since the moment he rescued her all those weeks ago.
Before either of them could react, before the significance of what was happening could fully register, a deafening CRACK of thunder, closer and more violent than any that had shook the house that night, reverberated through the apartment. The lights flickered violently, and Emma gasped, instinctively jumping back as if she’d been physically struck. The fragile intimacy shattered as Max blew out a long breath, carding his fingers through his hair.
Neither of them spoke for several moments, each contemplating what had nearly just happened. Tension thrummed in the air as Emma’s gaze fell to the floor. She lifted her fingers to touch her lips, almost as if she wanted to remember what the press of Max’s lips had felt like moments before.
Max cleared his throat after a beat, fighting the suffocating heat that had blanketed the kitchen. “It’s late, Sunshine and we have a big weekend ahead of us. Is everything out of the oven?”
Emma nodded, flinching slightly as another loud thunderclap rattled the windows. “Yeah. You go to bed, I won’t be able to sleep for hours anyway. I’ll stay away from the oven though, I’m sorry I woke you up.”
“You should just try to get some rest…”
Tears prick at the back of her eyes, the overwhelming situation in front of her almost too much to take. “I can’t…” She whispered, shame turning her neck red.
“Do you want to lay down with me?”
The question hangs the air and for a brief, terrifying moment, Max thinks he’s taken things just a step too far.
“In your bed?” Emma asks, eyes wide.
Max only nods.

“Okay.” She nods too.
“Okay.” He repeats before reaching out to twine his fingers with Emma’s slender ones, tugging her out of the kitchen and towards his darkened bedroom.

summary. some memorable moments throughout lando and y/n’s life together that were caught on a camcorder

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
the first date
lando and y/n had met at a small coffee shop close to the local supermarket. the moment he laid his eyes upon her it was like the world stopped spinning. he thought that she was the most beautiful girl to have graced earth.
he knew he couldn't leave without asking her out on a date.
although shy, he did manage to ask her out which leads us to where we are today; lando and y/n's very first date.
the two 18 year olds sit on a hand knitted checkered blanket that they had laid down on the grass. a woven wicker picnic basket placed in the middle of the blanket stored all of the food and drinks that lando had prepared early in the morning.
"i hope you like lasagna, that's what i decided to cook." lando says as he takes out the tupperware full of lasagna and two plates from the basket.
y/n gasps excitedly, "it's my favorite food ever!"
lando mentally pats himself on the back, proud of himself for guessing correctly.
the two get to know each other as they eat the delicious homemade lasagna. lando talks about his racing career and y/n talks about her life as a new university student.
as she speaks, lando can't help but look at her with pure adoration, not knowing how he managed to meet the most incredible soul in the entire planet. the way she spoke so intelligently and how passionate she was when talking about her interests made him deeply admire her.
as lando spoke, y/n wondered what she did to deserve such a romantic and respectful young man, something she thought was rare to find these days. the way he opened the car door for her and complimented her in the most reverential ways made her insides feel like jelly, her heart nearly exploding.
after finishing their food, lando begins rummaging through the picnic basket again before pulling out a grey camcorder, showing it to y/n.
"holy shit! you have one of those?!" she exclaims as she stares at the vintage camera.
"yes ma'am, just bought it last week. i haven't filmed anything on it yet? would you mind being my muse?" he raises an eyebrow.
"go ahead," she giggles.
lando presses on some buttons on the camera before beginning to film the gorgeous picturesque scenery. he then points the camera at y/n, she smiles shyly.
"here i am with a beautiful girl named y/n y/l/n, on our first of many dates." lando speaks into the camera, y/n grins and nods along to his words.
he scoots closer to y/n, flipping the camera around so it could film the both of them. "we could show this footage to our future kids." he shrugged his shoulders, turning to look at her.
y/n could feel her cheeks heat up, she was sure the camera would pick up how red they were. "talking about kids on the first date, norris?" she tries to keep a cool demeanor, attempting to conceal the fact that she was going crazy on the inside.
"of course, i'm sure about us." he speaks confidently.
"so am i." y/n smiles.
lando stops recording and places the camera down, reaching for the fork on his plate wiping away any leftover sauce on it with a napkin.
he picks up the camera and the fork before walking towards a nearby tree, beckoning y/n to follow him. she blinks slowly, still processing what had just been recorded but manages to stand quickly and follow him.
"whatcha doing, lando?" she asks once she reaches where he is kneeling.
"this is a special day, we need to remember this." he shows y/n how to record on the camera, asking her if she could film what he was about to do.
she complies and films as he grasps the fork like a makeshift chisel, beginning to etch something into the tree's bark.
L.N. +

is what was revealed as he steps back from the tree, handing y/n the fork. "write your initials." he instructs with a small smile, making him look so adorable.
and so lando films y/n as she carves her own initials next to the plus sign, adding a little heart under the date, for good measure, she thought.
"this is so cute!" y/n says as she pulls away. "we have to visit this in a few years time." the two nod proudly at their work.
lando makes sure to film the finish product, happily smiling at the mark that they've made.

the first kiss
tap tap tap.
y/n sits up in bed and begins to look around her room, wondering what could possibly be making such noise this late at night.
she reaches over and turns on the lamp that sat on her nightstand.
what she sees scares the living daylights out of her.
it was lando, wearing a black hoodie and grey sweatpants, tapping his finger on her window.
y/n shakes her head as she chuckles, quickly getting up from the bed and walking towards the window. as she opens it, she’s greeted with chilly air and a giggle from lando.
“what are you doing here, lando norris?” she questions the young boy.
it had been a few weeks since their first date and the two couldn’t get enough of each other. they had gone on some more dates and they texted and facetimed constantly, simply talking about their days or any random deep subject that came to their minds.
he shrugs his shoulders. “did i scare ya?”
“of course you did!” she laughs. “answer my question now.”
“sorry for scaring you,” he smiles sheepishly. “i just wanted to see you.” he confesses.
“sure, come on in, we just have to be quiet my parents are asleep.”
as she opens the window more to let lando in, he stops her. “actually, i was wondering if you’d like to go watch the stars with me.” he timidly says.
y/n grins at his words. “oh yes, of course! let me put on a jacket and my shoes.”
lando watches as she slips on a pink hoodie and her dirty white converse before she makes her way back to him.
with the help of him, y/n successfully managed to exit the window safely, avoiding any injuries big or small.
once she closes it, lando interlocks hands with her and leads her down the road, the street lights illuminating their path.
after a few minutes of walking, they finally made arrived at an empty field, where the stars were shining beautifully in the night sky, the full moon seemed to brighten up the field.
lando lays down on the grass, y/n following his lead.
“guess what i brought?” he speaks up after a few moments of silence.
“chocolate?” she crosses her fingers.
lando chuckles, “well yes that, i know how much you love it.” he pulls out a chocolate bar from the pocket of his sweatpants. she happily takes it and begins unwrapping it.
“but also this,” now he reaches into the pocket of his hoodie, taking out the very familiar camcorder.
y/n laughs as she sees it. “how fun, our kids are gonna know we were stargazing.”
“of course, they need to realize that we’re living like the romance movies.” lando continues the playful conversation.
the two continue staring up at the stars in awe, wondering how twinkling white specks could be so endearing and relaxing.
“i think you’re the most gorgeous star in the galaxy, y/n.” lando quietly says, looking over at her and admiring her beautifully sculpted side profile and her perfect plump lips, lips that she’s caught him staring at multiple times.
“you’re so cheesy, lan!” she giggles, attempting to hide how flustered she was.
lando flipped onto his side, facing y/n. she copies his actions and turns her body to watch him.
“i’m serious.” lando says, his eyes flickering down to her pink lips.
he feels himself begin to lean in and y/n can’t help but lean in too.
their lips meet in the middle, the two feel as if fireworks have erupted in their stomachs. hearts pounding in their chests as they finally take another step forward in their relationship.
lando forgets all about the stargazing. of course he would, when he’s got the most perfect star right in front of him.
breathlessly, they pull away, quickly missing the feeling of each others lips.
“oh my god, we just did that!” y/n exclaims as she stares into his eyes.
“hell yeah we did!” lando grins too.
he grabs the camcorder that he had left in between their bodies, pressing the record button and outstretching his arm to begin filming the both of them.
“guess who just kissed for the first time?!” he practically hollers, pulling y/n closer to his body.
“christ, lando!” y/n laughs as she buries her head into his chest, breathing in the smell of laundry detergent and cologne that lingered in his clothes.
“our kids need to know the very day when their parents first kissed.” he claims before stopping the recording and setting the camera down.
the two couldn’t keep their lips off of each other and there under the night sky adorned with scintillating stars, they find their own celestial connection.

the first time moving in together
“this is the new apartment!” y/n exclaims as she opens the front door and films the interior of the stunning apartment, located in the breathtaking city of monte-carlo, monaco.
lando and y/n decided it was time to officially live together after three years of dating. they had been pretty much living together at each others apartments back in the uk, but now they wanted a single place to call home.
lando had brought up the idea of moving to monaco, claiming it was more convenient for racing along with the amazing weather and city life. after researching the country and the university, y/n agreed to moving with him.
lando walks in behind her, a little puppy cradled in his arms.
she was a tan cocker spaniel named betty that the couple adopted at a local animal shelter. her sweet gaze behind the kennel bars immediately caught their eye and they knew they couldn’t leave without her.
“this is your new home, betty-boo.” lando says gently as he places the puppy down, she runs down the hallway and begins exploring the place, y/n making sure to film her.
lando takes the camera from y/n’s hands, recording her as she walks into the kitchen.
“look how big it is in here! imagine all of the things i can bake!” she claps her hands excitedly.
betty runs into the kitchen after hearing all of the commotion, barking happily at y/n’s enthusiasm.
lando places the camera down on the kitchen island before opening one of the boxes that had been placed on the floor. he pulls out two wine glasses and an expensive looking wine bottle.
“charles had gifted me wine this past race,” lando informs y/n as she stares, mesmerized at the pretty bottle. “he said that it was a ‘welcome home wine’, and i somewhat trust his taste in alcohol.” he shrugs as he pours the red wine into the glasses, sliding one of them towards y/n.
he reaches for the record button, pressing it and making sure y/n and betty, whom she had picked up from the floor, were in frame.
“here’s to a new chapter in our lives, baby.” lando says as he raises his glass.
“i hope to keep turning pages with you, lan.” the two smile lovingly at each other before clinking their glasses and taking a sip, a look of amazement on both of their faces at the rich tasting beverage.
“i love you.” lando says before pressing a long and tender kiss on y/n’s lips. “you too, little muppet.” he scratches behind betty’s ears, she cheerfully licks his palm.
“i love you too.” y/n sighs contentedly. “now we need to decorate and make this place feel like home!” she places the puppy down on the floor before skipping towards the entrance hallway, where the rest of the boxes were set down.
the camera manages to capture the way lando watches her adoringly. he had adopted a new puppy and moved into a new apartment in a new city, all with the love of his life by his side. in his mind, he already found his happily ever after.

the wedding day
to say that both lando and y/n were nervous is an understatement.
today was the officially their wedding day, the one day they looked forward to the most when they were those young 18 year olds on their very first date together.
y/n picks up the well known camcorder, pressing record and filming her professionally done hair and makeup.
she lets out a deep breath, “i’m so excited but so nervous at the same time.” she says to the camera as she films her ethereal white dress in the mirror. the dress stunningly made of ivory silk and lace fits her body perfectly, making her look like a goddess. delicate, beaded embroidery adorns the dress, shimmering like diamonds in the light.
“lan, i know you’ll be watching this footage back and i just wanted to say that i love you so very much and i’m the luckiest girl in the entire world to be marrying such an amazing man.” she blows a quick kiss to the camera before shutting it off.
she passes the camera off to lily, oscar’s girlfriend and one of her bridesmaids, asking if she could please take it to where lando currently was.
lily fulfills y/n’s wishes and successfully gives the camera to lando in the room where he was getting ready.
lando stands confidently as films his perfectly tailored suit. the jacket skims his broad shoulders, accentuating his strong physique. the crisp white shirt contrast elegantly with the suit’s dark hue, the tie adding a splash of color, drawing attention to his bright smile.
“holy fuck, i can’t wait to see her.” he grins at the camera, showing just how eager he was. “who would’ve thought little lando norris would be marrying the most amazing woman in the universe?” he chuckles as he straightens out his tie.
a knock is heard on the door. “fuck, okay, it’s time!”
the camera is passed to lando’s mom, cisca, and luckily, she perfectly filmed y/n being walked down the aisle by her parents. cisca also catches a few seconds of lando wiping his teary eyes.
soon come the vows, the part that lando and y/n have been waiting for the most.
lando starts with his vows first. “y/n y/l/n, from the day i saw you in that little old coffee shop, i thought you were the most beautiful woman to ever exist. luckily, i didn’t chicken out and i asked you out on a date, sure i was awkward but it was worth it. on that very first date, i knew i wanted to marry you.” he clears his throat and wipes his wet cheeks.
“your sense of humor, your taste in music, your kindness, and just you being yourself made me fall harder and harder for you. i couldn’t have asked for anyone better, thank you for putting up with me and my hectic lifestyle for over seven years now. you’ve been my rock, my shoulder to cry on, the person i can count on the most when times get rough. i promise to love and adore everything about you for as long as i’m alive. we’re doing it, angel, we’re finally getting married and i can’t wait to spend the rest of my life making memories with you. you are my forever home, my soulmate, and my everything, let’s grow old together, my love.”
y/n quickly composes her crying self before clearing her throat and beginning her vows.
“lando norris, from day one, you have been the most respectful man i have ever met. when you carved our initials into that special tree in the park, i knew you were the one. you’ve showed me love and affection that i have never in my life experienced and i thank you so much for that. i promise to continue supporting you in any possible dream that you have just like you have supported mine all these years. i will stand by your side through all of life’s joys and challenges, to laugh with you, cry with you, and build a life that will be full of so much love and adventures. i will always love you without condition. you make me a better person. i love you now, and i will love you forever. as you said, let’s grow old together and allow our souls to stay forever young.” she finishes her vows, the couple wiping their cheeks wet with so many tears of happiness.
next, the rings are exchanged. cisca makes sure to zoom in on the beautiful bands that gleam with a luminous polish, symbolizing their everlasting love and commitment.
“you may now kiss the bride.” the officiant says when all is said and done.
lando has zero hesitation in cupping y/n’s face in his hands and smashing his lips against hers. finally, kissing his wife.
“ladies and gentlemen, please meet mr. and mrs. norris!”
y/n and lando walk down the aisle hand in hand, their eyes crinkling as they grin brightly at everyone who sat in the crowd and joined them on such a special day.
short bits of the rest of the party were filmed until the couple could finally plop down onto their hotel bed once the night had come to an end.
the two were showered and in their pj’s by the time lando picks up the camcorder from the nightstand, filming both him and y/n as they lay in bed.
“how’re you feeling after this amazing day?” lando says with a smug smile on his lips.
“i’m feeling great, how are you feeling?” y/n giggles as he agrees with her words
lando presses a chaste kiss to her lips, “i truly can’t wait to grow old with you, mrs. norris.”
y/n reciprocates the kiss, “and i can’t wait to grow old with you, mr. norris.”
betty comes running in from the other room, jumping onto the bed and snuggling into her parents.
the newlywed couple laughs and kiss the dog’s head before falling asleep, pure happiness radiating off of all three of their bodies.
and the small one growing inside of y/n…

finding out y/n is pregnant
y/n hadn't been feeling good at all, her stomach was not happy with her for some unknown reason.
it was so bad to the point where the honeymoon had to be cut a few days short due to y/n not feeling the best.
she felt extremely bad for being the reason that they couldn't enjoy the honeymoon completely, but with lando's understanding and reassurance, she somewhat felt better.
so, she did what her gut was telling her to do, and that was take a pregnancy test.
lando was at a meeting with the team, doing some testing and talking about some potential upgrades for the car. it was the perfect opportunity for y/n to take the test.
she sets the familiar camcorder down onto the bathroom counter, deciding that, if she was pregnant, it would be cute to capture the moment on camera and show her child when they were older.
"okay, so i just did what i needed to do with the test," y/n says into the camera as she sets a timer on her phone. "i'm really excited, i honestly want it to come out positive." she grins.
she hears a light scratching at the bathroom door, quickly knowing who it was, she opens up the door for betty.
y/n picks her up from the ground. "you ready to see if mommy is going to be a human mommy, betty-boo?" she coos at the dog, kissing her head a few times.
as she does that, the timer on her phone goes off, indicating that it was time to find out if she was pregnant or not.
"okay betty, you look first," y/n shuts her eyes to show betty first, and while betty didn't pay much attention to the test, it's the thought that counts.
she exhales, "okay, my turn, my turn. three, two, one..." she opens her eyes, the test showing the word 'pregnant' clearly.
y/n gasps loudly, tears immediately filling her eyes. "betty i am going to be a human mommy!" she exclaims as betty licks at the salty tears on her cheeks, y/n puts her down quickly after.
she shows the camera the pregnancy test, covering her mouth with her hand as she cries into it. it was pure happiness, no sad tears coming from her.
"oh my god, i can't wait to tell lando!"
she stops recording and runs to the small storage closet in the closet, pulling out the photo book that her and lando created when they first started dating. throughout the years, they've filled it with all kinds of pictures and memorable items. the most recent pictures were from their, short, but lovely honeymoon.
y/n places the pregnancy test into one of the pockets in the continuing page from the one they had just finished before closing it up.
finally, after three hours of y/n buzzing with excitement, lando arrives home. she greets him with a long and sweet kiss to his lips.
"i'm gonna go shower, then we can order some pizza and continue watching love island, yeah?" lando says against her lips, causing her to nod her head.
"i have something to show you after your shower." y/n says which causes lando to gasp.
"ooh, a surprise, how exciting!" he exclaims. y/n laughs and slaps his butt as he walks to their shared bedroom.
lando looks back with a cheeky smile, winking at her.
y/n shakes her head as she giggles. she sets the camcorder up behind the tv, making sure it would perfectly get the two of them in frame before grabbing the photo book from the kitchen counter and sitting on the couch to wait for lando.
he quickly comes walking out of the bedroom in comfortable clothing, his slightly wet curly hair drips small droplets onto his white shirt.
betty jumps onto the couch as soon as lando plops down next to y/n. "i just ordered the food. what did you want to show me, beautiful?" he pulls betty closer to his side, beginning to scratch her belly.
"i added some more things to our book, take a look at it." she places the photo book onto his lap.
lando retracts his hand from betty's body and starts to flip to the page where they last left off at. he pauses as soon as he sees the pregnancy test, turning to look at y/n.
"you're lying, angel!" he says, a look of shock on his face.
y/n shakes her head, biting her lip. "i'm not lying, i promise. i just took the test today."
"holy shit!" he throws the book on top of the coffee table, before pulling y/n onto his lap. she was now straddling him as he wraps his arms around her waist, hers instinctively going around his neck.
"we're going to be human parents!" he exclaims into her neck, pressing a quick kiss to it.
"i know, my love." y/n pulls away from the hug to kiss his lips, he practically melts into her lips, sighing contentedly.
“ha!” y/n cackles. “we were probably in this position making the baby.” she rubs her stomach.
“fuckin, hell, y/n!” lando groans as he throws his head back to laugh.

showing their kids the footage
fourteen years have passed since y/n and lando’s wedding, the couple now reaching 40 years of age.
fourteen years have passed since their daughters were born.
it turns out that y/n was having twin girls during her first pregnancy. their names were nadia and nailea. the two girls were extremely easy to care for as babies and even now as teenagers, they haven’t caused y/n and lando much trouble.
because the two girls were such a breeze to raise, they decided to have another baby once the girls were four years old. he was a boy named, quinn.
quinn wasn’t bratty or a bad kid, no. he was just extremely chaotic, somehow always managing to hurt himself and never seeming to run out of energy.
lando noticed that it wasn’t going to be easy for y/n to raise such an energetic kid alone while he was away for races, so he made the decision to retire from formula one at the age of 36.
on top of that, he simply wanted to spend more time with his family. after missing so many of his kids milestones because he was away racing, he realized that he didn’t want to leave them anymore.
“mom, can you tell me what you and dad’s first date like?” nadia asks as she eats her dinner at the kitchen island, her green eyes, that she got from her father, sparkle with curiosity.
y/n chuckles as she finishes wiping down the counter, recalling all of the memories her and lando have made. “well, sweetie, i don’t have to tell you, i can just show you.”
nadia furrows her eyebrows. nailea, who sits besides her sister, also looks at her mother with confusion.
“you know that super old camcorder that we have, the one that we use to film you guys sometimes?” y/n asks as she covers the pot on the stove with its lid.
“oh yeah!” the twins say at the same time.
“your dad and i have had that thing since we were eighteen years old.” y/n explains, laughing at their eyes going extremely wide.
“eighteen?!” nailea exclaims. “that was years ago!”
“what was years ago?” lando asks as he walks through the front door of the house, quinn being carried on his back.
the two girls jump from their seat, greeting their dad who had just come back from playing golf with his friend carlos; someone who he had raced alongside with and remained good friends even after both of their retirements.
“i told them that we’ve had the camcorder since we were eighteen.” y/n explains as she walks over to lando, kissing his lips.
“oh yeah! that thing’s been through a lot, i’m genuinely surprised it still works.” lando exclaims as he sets quinn down, he quickly runs to the living room
“can we watch all of the footage?” nadia asks as she sits back down on the counter stool.
“sweetheart, it’s hours of footage.” lando tells her as he makes his way to the stove, grabbing a plate to serve himself food.
“that’s okay! it’s summer, dad. it’s not like we have school tomorrow.” nailea gives her best puppy dog eyes, something that neither y/n and lando can say ‘no’ to.
“fine, let me eat dinner and shower, okay?” the two girls squeal before washing their dirty dishes and making their way to the living room.
“guess we’ll be rewatching our life together, my love.” lando smiles. “fuck, this is good.” he exclaims as he eats some of the food.
y/n giggles, “thank you, lan. and yes, we will be rewatching our life together, i’m surprised we haven’t done this sooner.”
an hour later, the family of five was gathered around the living room. lando had done some technical stuff to get the tapes to play on the tv. neither y/n nor the kids knew what he did to achieve that, but it wasn’t very important, they cared about the footage.
“okay, you guys ready?” lando asks as his finger hovers the play button on the controller.
he heard a chorus of ‘yes!’ before pressing down on the button.
the first video comes up, the date marking ‘07/09/2019’, it was the day of their very first date.
“oh my god! 2019?! that was billions of years ago!” quinn exclaims from his place on the couch. the family giggles at the ten year old’s words.
“that tree engraving is so cute.” nadia says.
the videos continue changing, until they reach the one about their first kiss.
“guess who just had their first kiss?!” lando’s holler comes from the tv, the twins laugh the hardest out of everyone.
“dad, you really haven’t changed.” nailea says, her attention still on the screen. lando can’t help but smile at his daughter’s words, at least they found him amusing.
a video of the sweet cocker spaniel puppy soon pops up, y/n and lando pouted. “oh, little betty-boo.” y/n says sadly. unfortunately, betty had passed away from old age a few years back and y/n and lando have never thought about getting another dog since.
“hey, i remember her!” nadia gasps. luckily, the twins did get to meet the dog, but it was in her final years.
lando and y/n quickly wipe their tears away as the footage of their wedding day appears.
“you looked so gorgeous that day, i’m so lucky to have married you.” lando whispers into y/n’s ear, causing her to smile and kiss his cheek.
“oh my god! the vows were so cute!” nadia cries into her hands, she had always been the most emotional out of the three kids.
nailea quickly wraps an arm around her shoulders. lando and y/n watch proudly at how fast nailea is at consoling her twin sister.
the video of y/n finding out she was pregnant for the first time plays next, everyone coos at betty who appeared on the screen.
“ha! we were probably in this position making the baby.” y/n’s cackle is heard from the tv. her eyes immediately widen, forgetting she ever said that.
lando snorts right next to her, she hides her face in her hands.
“wait, what’s so funny?” sweet little quinn’s voice speaks up.
“nothing, my love, just ignore it.” y/n quickly says, causing lando to laugh even harder now.
as the videos of the kids’ life start appearing, the three slowly fall asleep. they were seemingly more interested in learning about their parents life before them than they were over footage of them as babies.
“look at the life we’ve built together.” lando squeezes y/n’s shoulders as he speaks quietly.
“i can’t believe how far we’ve come.” she looks up at her husband, the love and adoration in their eyes remains the same even after so many years together.
“i love you so much.” she whispers.
“i love you more.” he kisses the lips of the love of his life.

30 years later…
lando and y/n continued to love each other for so many more years.
their kids had grown up, starting families of their own and living in different places around the world.
the couple decided to move back to the uk, deciding that it was much more calm and peaceful here than monaco.
they lived in a small cozy house, near the park where they had they first date, decades ago.
y/n sits at the round dining table, flipping through the pages of the photo book of their life together.
lando walks into the dining room, his walk a little slower but still as cheerful as when he was a youngster.
“what are you looking at, my darling wife?” he asks as he sees his wife flipping through something.
“just the book of us.” y/n says as she looks up at her lovely husband.
lando’s face was a map of their journey together, every line and wrinkle was a testament to the laughter, tears and adventures they’ve shared. his once curly dark brown hair was now silver and wispy, it continues to frame his face with a distinguished grace. yet in y/n’s eyes, he continues being the most handsome man ever, his elder face was a reflection of the beauty and depth of their love.
“oh wow.” he whispers in amazement at the pictures of their young selves. “what if we visit that park, huh?”
y/n gasps, “yes, we must!” she slowly stands from the chair, grabbing her knitted sweater from the hook on the wall.
the elder couple make their way to the park. the walk should be a short one, however it was hard to be quick at their age.
when they finally arrive, lando immediately makes his way to the special tree, holding on to y/n’s hand so she can follow closely behind him.
“do you think our engraving would still be here?” he asks as he reaches the tree that holds so much importance to them.
“let’s hope it is.” y/n smiles.
to their surprise, the engraving is still perfectly intact.
y/n inhales shakily, “it’s still here.” her voice cracks as tears begin welling in her eyes.
“oh my...” lando lets out a deep breath, he can’t help the tears that also fill his eyes.
memories of their life together, from when they were tiny eighteen year olds to now in their seventies, come flashing through their minds. so much devotion and happiness shared between them. of course, there were a few bad parts but any problem was resolved by the power of their love and respect.
“we did it, sweet girl, we grew old together.” lando says as he wraps and arm around y/n’s shoulder and pulls her closer to his side, the two couldn’t seem to shift their gaze from the engraving.
“we did, lan. we grew old together.”
lando presses a kiss to y/n’s gray hair.
the single kiss shows the love he always had and will have for her. it was also a thank you for such an amazing life, and demonstrating what true love is.
y/n kisses his cheek.
the kiss is her saying thank you for being such a kind and respectful gentleman. a thank you for always showering her with love and affection all of her life.
sure, many people would want to stay forever young,
but to lando and y/n, growing old together was always their goal and they’ve accomplished it.
the two lived their happily ever after.
