That asshole just uses his powers whenever and however he wants but does have some self preservation at least. Sure he's powerful but going against an entire private military much less full on militaries isn't exactly on his bucket list.

That said, he pushes as many buttons as he can because he thinks it's funny and just misses the freedom of not having to worry about such things. Most of his powers come out after dark or when he's in his workshop that's been built a few feet from the main house. He loves watching Ethan get uptight when he floats a coin or two to keep Rose amused while they're waiting for their meals at a restaurant.
