Charles shifts a little on the bed, makes a pained noise. “Gotta stay still,” Arthur scolds gently. “Gonna hurt yourself worse.” He pulls the chair in the corner up to the bed. “Stupid,” Charles mutters. His face is still tight with pain. “Over now,” Arthur says. “Just gotta get you back on your feet.”

Charles hurts himself while working. What follows is a reversal of the routine that has shaped their life on the ranch, and Charles gives up his role as caretaker while he recovers.
