Danny is a paladin in the Young Justice Team.

I have wanted to have the young justice kids have a video game or board game they can all play but they would have equal chance at winning. (My first thought was Pokémon tournaments bet robin gets way to intense on the competitive stats) and any video game that requires fast reflexes Kid flash/impulse dominates at unfairly. So doomed is out. This is something for them to bond over after missions and training. And they settle on DCs version of dnd.

As they are playing they notice that some of the ways the dnd classes are used matches pretty well with some tactics they use on missions. Superboy is the team barbarian, Robin is the rouge, wonder girl is a fighter, Danny recently learned how to use ectoplasm for healing but he is a heavy hitter too so he is a paladin. Maybe paladin? (You guys can figure out what the other members are.) Oh and this gets them wondering if some strategies in dnd can be applied in the field. Several of which do and the mentors happy at the increased team work. Though they are confused at some of the code phrases the kids are using. (It’s not code just dnd terminology.)

Really this is what gave me the idea.

Just remembered a dream I had last night.

So, Gru was making the minions build a new place, and for some weird reason every few minutes while in the base, Gru would close his eyes and the next thing I knew he's half naked and a bunch of minions are opening his legs for another minion to enter him... Yea.... It was a weird dream....

The Whispering God- DCxDP prompt

There is a god that belongs to no pantheon. You don't pray to them as they do not need favor or give blessings by your will. They have no alter as they don't have a place they dwell.

They are only a rumor as only those that have heard him can speak of him.

It is said that you will hear him whisper in your ear a message only for you. He will tell you what is needed. His words were fate.

When Clytemnestra slayed her husband it was he who told her that it would be so and that she was right to do it. But the gods of greek denied her.

He whispered into the ear of Pierre Picaud that he was right to feel betrayed and inspired the story of the Count of Monte Cristo.

Here and there and everywhere he would whisper his words. If you listen to his words you will do something in wrath.

When a poacher kills elephants for ivory it is he who tells the elephants to stampede.

He will suggest that a plug be pulled here or a request left unfinished there.

He is considered an evil god that dwells in the back of their mind. So many disregard his existence, after all, he rarely is heard. Many don't think he exists at all.

So the only ones who have the chance to hear him are the ones willing to hear him are those desperate enough to listen.

Then there are the few to hear him well. Who feel him deep within. They are the chosen. When a human digs too deep that they catch the eyes of a divine. They are opened to a deeper understanding of the world.

Poe who saw the outline of despair and blessed with their misery. Shakespeare who wanted to create dreams made reality. And a family of bats who see feel the quiet rage of this god.

Yes, each of them has heard the call. The patriarch did not listen, however. He felt but did not answer. But his sons did.

Rage, vengeance, and the desire to correct the wrongs of this world flowed their their blood.

He squeezed the throat of the eldest boy when his hated enemy taunted him for his brother's death. He answered and took their life in return.

He chose the once dead revenant as his champion. To carry the light of vindication and create a balance where the light is dying.

The middle boy's heart was festered with indignation. He saw the dreadful arch that led before him and drove deeper in to the dark to drag truth out of it.

The only one with eyes to see him was resilient but he listens. Deep down he listens. He fights the shadows but he too will embrace them in time.

Then the youngest. He only learned through death the call. Still young he does not hear properly yet. But the whisperers will find him. They have already started showing him the way carved by the family he was born to.

Each has carried the torch into the dark. Cursed by the Whispering God. They can reject or embrace it but they must bear it unknowingly. A God that does not accept worship or acknowledgement but will not be ignored.

Because it's not fair. Revenge is justice. It is order. It is healing. It will be had.

I’ve hinted at it in other posts I’ve made, but the idea that Danny is just a little to non-human for people’s comfort is a head cannon I love. Which is half the reason he ends up in Gotham.

Gotham is cursed. Like full on, cursed the land the city was built on it’s imbedded in the brick and mortar of the buildings, cursed. But it leaves all Gothamites with a certain level of tolerability.

So Danny, who had the police called on him 5 different times during a college visit in metropolis because he was just a little too uncanny and everyone felt a certain degree of uncomfortable around him, learned that gothamites still pick up on the uncanny, but they can ignore it. At most he kinda get’s side eyed when he passes by, but most of Gotham gives off an odd vibe so they take it at face value and move on. Danny is not a registered rogue and is also not actively holding them up and they have better places to be.

That doesn’t mean it’s always ignored though. After Danny is admitted to the aerospace engineering program at Gotham U a Twitter account pops up that’s just called “Local GU Cryptid sightings.” It’s just pictures of Danny sleeping in the weirdest fucking places or security footage of him that keeps bugging out because they learn that they can’t take pictures of the kid without the footage going a little buggy.

The students in Danny’s cohort use the account to gauge Danny’s sanity level. They were not afraid to ask what was up with him, and instead of saying he’s a ghost he admitted to essentially living above a radioactive portal that contaminated him. His eyes glow and he has sharper teeth and ears. Also digital anything cannot capture his likeness.

And this was fascinating to them. They started doing some research because they wanted to know why some images had more distortion than others. Turns out the more tired Danny is the more distorted the photo becomes. So every now and then you’ll see someone snap a photo of Danny and be like “go home!” (They refer it to it as Danny’s sanity level because one time he started laughing so hard they thought he’s been gassed, but turns out he hadn’t slept in a week).

Still, it’s sorta become a game. Like how there are accounts that post pictures of the campus squirrels. It’s just that but with absurd Danny sightings. Someone caught him asleep in a tree once. No one knows how he got up there but he was sleeping against a gargoyle in the middle of the night and for the life of them they couldn’t figure out why he wouldn’t just go home (he likes sleeping under the stars sometimes, even if he can’t see them through the smog). A teacher sent a student to retrieve something from storage. Danny was also down there, and can apparently see in the dark since said student turned the corner to a dark hall and glowing green eyes. (Geezus Danny you scared the shit out of me. Now don’t move. I need proof this happened or no one will believe me.)

It’s all pretty harmless. The first time Danny gets caught up in a rouge attack his teenage vigilante instincts kick in and he decks the leader in the face knocking him out cold.

Bruce is concerned because footage of the fight is distorted but both Jason and Tim take one look and laugh. “It’s just Danny. We already vetted him. He’s good,l. Remember the GCPD’s request about that kid who disarmed a bomb and disappeared? That was Danny. He was tired and likes to canabilize machines for his projects.”

Danny not a born Gothamite, but he certainly feels like one so they accept him into the fold easily enough.
