Sighs. Okay yeah i have thoughts about cgi toothless.
First of all, why does he look so... slimy? He feels too smooth. Like they just stretched some scaly skin over a skeleton and let it walk around. Immediately offputting.
His body language is. Fine? Am i being nitpicky or does it seem just the tiniest bit less expressive? I'm guessing this is either the scene right after hiccup cuts him free, in which case he should be way more intimidating, or the fish-sharing scene, in which case he should feel a little friendlier and more curious around hiccup. It's a quick shot so i won't put a ton of expectations onto it, but i think it's worth noting.
Okay this is a legitimately cool detail though. He has a secondary eyelid!! You can see it slipping away when he opens his eyes. That's a detail exclusive to the books so i like that they included something as small as that.
Sighs again. And this is the shot that prompted me to make this post.
Look at the original, and then look at the cgi version. I could write an essay about how inferior the cgi version is in comparison.
First off, they flattened his face. I swear every iteration of night furies after the first movie has just been compressing their snouts until they're sufficiently 'cute' enough for the audience to forget they're supposed to be sleek and aerodynamic.
Second, his eyes. Absolutely radioactive. I understand using a brighter colour for his eyes, especially in a relatively darker environment to make him stand out and seem more fantastical. But. They're just so bright. It's mildly unsettling how saturated they are compared to everything else.
Third, his eyes. Again.
Toothless is supposed to be terrified but still threatening in this scene, and the original shot conveys that perfectly. If it's a threat, then by all means hiccup should kill it or at least run, but instead he draws a connection between both of them being scared of the other and decides to cut him loose instead. And that's the core of their relationship. Toothless is staring him down with a slitted pupil that could just as easily be interpreted as "fuck around and find out" but hiccup just acknowledges that there's a frightened, injured animal in front of him that needs help, and he helps.
Is any of that conveyed in the cgi version? No!! It's trying so hard to be cute that it's gone full circle back to just being scary. The wide-eyed stare, the dilated pupil, he's basically just saying "🥺🥺 uwu pwease i'm so cute and innocent don't kill me aha 👉👈". Which is a lot less of a compelling reason for hiccup to free him!! Plus the fact that toothless turns up to look at him instead of lying and accepting his fate like in the original, which only makes it seem even more like he's trying to show off how apparently adorable he is.
Idk. Just the difference between the in-your-face sanitised cuteness of "teehe you wouldn't kill little old me would you? 🥺" and the expert subtlety of his "please don't hurt me" of the original doesn't give me high hopes for a toothless that stays true to his character from the first movie. Even from something as small as this. He's gonna get woobified. I can feel it.
How the hell?!?!?? Its soo good wtf!

I love this little callback to 1x4 in Reckless Club. At the beginning of episode 4, Jim references his upcoming Spanish exam with Señor Uhl "The Unforgiving "
Fast forward to 2x10 and Blinky calls him the same name.
Here, have some new year's depression
Continuing the theme from House Divided where majority of Jim's flashbacks are of Claire, all of the memories he has at school are also of Claire. This just further shows that Claire and his love for her is forefront in his mind. I think his biggest fear (besides Gunmar and Morgana) was how this would affect Claire. Would he lose her? And even if he didn't, could they ever have a normal relationship, would it even be fair to her to try. And so he is lost and confused and hurt and filled with anxiety. He tries to push away to give her an out, and bless Claire, but she loves him too much in return to take it. Theirs is one of the most beautiful relationships I've seen in a tv show, and it gets tested time and time again and never falters. I just hope that in the many months (year?) post wizards they got to just be normal and rest and go on dates and do other normal relationship things before life falls apart again.
And a super depressing thought, Aaron has stated that, canonically, Claire would have an extended lifespan given she's a sorceress, and Jim would as well because of the magic of the amulet. But now he doesn't have the amulet any more, and while Claire's magic is now dormant again, if it awakens? I guess the only hope would be Jim still has the Excalibur amulet, or gets it back at some point. Another reason RotT sucks and needs to get out of my head.
ROTT was going to be more in line with the shows and have a happy ending but then guess who showed up with a thick stack of papers and said "I had some thoughts about the script", and this is how we got fighter jets, a giant robot, Blinky being tazered, mpreg, pointless deaths and a timeline reset.
I might have typed out a rage fueled rant the other day....
They should have done another season of Wizards and not RotT
You know what I’m still mad
The most important plot point of Trollhunters, the whole series long, was that Jim was not, and never would be, alone. The responsibilities of being the hero were not his burden to carry by himself, but something he was meant to share with those who loved him, and they decided after everything he went through, side by side with these people he loved, to erase it and have him be the only one to remember, and have to carry that alone
They could have just NOT killed Toby
It would have been a very easy writing choice to make
They could have spaced out the other characters deaths to make someone else the dramatic end loss, and brought closure to those stories lines, instead of using time travel, it would have been simple
But instead they not only sent Jim back all alone, back to a time in his life when all he had in the world was his mom and Toby, he lost all his friends, all his father figures, and the love of his life, and then to top it all off, his personal destiny as THE trollhunter
Not only did they erase every sacrifice he ever made that proved time and time again that he was the only one who was truly meant to be the wielder of the amulet, but they put that same responsibility onto someone he loved more than anything and had him act happy about it?
Anyways trollhunter movie was garbage and they could have done so much better and I’m still mad about it
Some Christmas Jlaire.
Beautiful heartbreaking angst.
This is one of the best Ive ever seen.
A small edit I created in honor of this 5 years of Trollhunters! I decided to do one for all the shows because it’s a way to start the party wooo!! Happy birthday Trollhunters.

SPOILERS !!
Did anyone else find this scene to be upsetting?
When Claire was possessed by Morgana, she was doing things around her house. Studying, taking care of Enrique, cleaning- etc etc, and she seemed happy.
For Jim, when he was stuck in the shadow realm, he wasn't home. He wasn't even in trollmarket. He was stuck on the bridge and he looked miserable. Not to mention the fact that he kept repeating the same line over and over again.
But lets appreciate the fact that Claire was able to bring him back when he was already so far gone <3
people are literally so boring a male character will kill 10000 people and steal candy from babies and theyll be like omg thats my king! but a female character is rude once and theyre like i hope she dies violently
Is it just me, or is anyone else scared that people will start to forget about Tales of Arcadia and/or How to train your Dragon. Coz im terrified of that happening. These things are my life and if people start to forget about them, or stop posting about them I would probably cry my ass off.
Jim's hair blowing around in 2x13 was worlds better than his hair in RotT, fight me.

They make such an effort to stress that Mexico is its own planet. We see Mexico as a Planet in the beginning of the book of life, it even has a mustache. (Which further backs up that Maria and Manolo are Maya and zatz reincarnated bc in Maya and the three, the planet of Mexico doesn't have a mustache yet, which is fair considering mustaches take a long time to grow. Especially to the length that it was in in the book of life.) The fact that Mexico is a planet is important to the story of the book of life because San angel is in the center of Mexico. Then at the end of the movie the camera pulls up and it zooms out to see the planet. We even see that Mexico is a planet in Maya and the three, which makes sense, Because the two universes are one in the same!
So in the book of life/Maya and the three universe, whatever we wanna call this cinematic universe, Mexico is a planet! So why in the book of life, Maria's dad says that he's gonna send her to Spain 🧐. And when he does send her to Spain, she gets on a TRAIN to get there 🧐.
