Not 'Annabeth Chase they could never make me hate you' or 'Annabeth Chase they could never make me love you' but 'Annabeth Chase what the FUCK did he do to you.'
I was just reading the Iliad and I came to the part where Athena tells Achilles that Hera loves both him and Agamemnon and so she sent Athena to stop them from fighting.
And I thought about PJO Hera who's stated to love only perfect families, and how untrue it was.
Agamemnon first kills his wife's first husband and son and then rapes her and forces her into marriage. He then deceives his wife and killed his daughter Iphigenia to set sail for Troy and his devastated wife Clytemnestra plots revenge against her husband and takes a lover Aegisthus. She then murders Agamemnon when he comes back.
Not the image of a perfect family, eh? But Hera still loves Agamemnon.
And Achilles' parents were separated because Thetis was an immortal and Peleus was mortal, so they couldn't stay together forever, but Hera still loves Achilles.
They both come from imperfect families, but she still loves them.
Now I wonder what the extent of Rick Riordan's knowledge regarding Greek Mythology is. Did he ever read the Iliad or the Odyssey? Is he Classics Scholar? Did he ever get a degree in anything related to Greek Mythology or did he just read the myths and was like, 'Oh yeah I can do this.'
Artemis is supposed to be the protector of young girls, not trick them into joining an eternal hunting/death cult, take them to witness wars and punish them if they want to leave. She would not isolate them from society and freeze their biological development. She would not kick lesbians out of the hunt. If Real Artemis met PJO Artemis, she'd hunt her down ruthlessly and slaughter her as painfully as possible.
If Real Zeus met PJO Zeus, he'd be throwing him into Tartarus. What do you mean you're a bumbling, incompetent king that can't be bothered to take care of his own kids and doesn't let the others see them? Tartarus for you, asshole!
If Real Apollo met PJO Apollo, I think that he'd be disappointed. Kind of mad, but mostly disappointed. Apollo seems to be a good dad, but he's still vain and narcissistic when Real Apollo isn't really like that.
If Real Hades met PJO Hades, he'd be roaring at him for breaking justice by sending monsters after a twelve year old girl for no fault of her own just because of what her father did to his lover. He'd be screaming at the way Hades sent his son down into Tartarus of all places for no good reason. Honestly Hades would also throw PJO Hades into Tartarus.
If Real Hera met PJO Hera, she'd be disgusted by her. Liking perfect families only? Beefing with literal children who aren't even Zeus' bastards? Leaving a hero to wander the streets when said hero saved Olympus? No gratitude at all? No, honey, straight into Tartarus for you too.
If Real Ares met PJO Ares.........oh boy, the fight would destroy most of New York, I should think. It would kill millions of people and animals. Real Ares would be rearing to rip PJO Ares apart.
If Real Athena met PJO Athena, she'd be horrified at how Athena treated her lovers and children. She would literally fight her and make her swear on the Styx to never dump babies on men without their consent. Actually, she'd use her wits to throw PJO Athena into Tartarus.
You did NOT just compare Annabeth and Gabe to each other.
I swear to god you anti Percabeths are the dumbest, most incomprehent people I've ever met. I seriously think you should just kys honestly the world would be a better place off without you.
No I don't think it's wrong you're anti Percabeth so yeah
I did, in fact, compare Annabeth to Gabe!
I don't think that Annabeth is as bad as Gabe (nope nope nope) but I do think that she's very toxic and that she hurts Percy. I think that they need to break up and heal alone. Her lack of character growth is very frustrating.
The lack of specificity in your death threat is annoying. If you do want me to kill myself, you're going to have to be more particular-the necessary tools, how long it'll take, how painful it'll be, etc. I take painless methods only.
I do think that not much would be changed in the world if I killed myself, but it would probably be a somewhat worse off place without me because I have people who love and care for me and I'm not doing anything bad to the world, so there's that.
When I came into this fandom, people told me that Percabeth stans would be rabid and hateful, and I don't think that's the case for the majority of them, seeing as that period already passed and they seem more mature now (or maybe it's just Tumblr) but you seem to be an exception. I wonder if you're the same anon as last time? I'll never know.
In any case, I'd like to thank you for your use of better grammar than the last one, though your not adding a period at the end of the last sentence irks me. I'd also prefer it if you didn't use the abbreviation of kys and said kill yourself. I dislike it when people use bad grammar, though that's just a personal preference.
Your morality is interesting-I forget the exact term for it, but you think it's bad to tell your side to kill themselves but have no problem telling the opposite side to kill themselves just because..............they're your enemies. Which is a terrible reason. Not surprising from a hardcore Percabeth stan, though.
I don't tend to think of people whom I disagree with as automatically bad people-that is a very harmful mentality to have. I have fought with some people, but they're not bad people-we just disagree on certain things and I know that they produce great content and have good morals just like me. Please adopt this mentality and the world will be slightly better, because every change is a change, no matter how big or small.
Anyway, I will be the bigger person and I hope that you sleep well tonight! Au revoir!
EXACTLY. Rick's misogyny should be crystal clear to anyone with good media literacy and a good understanding of Greek Gods and myths. He somehow manages to destroy every Greek God-someone give him the Golden Raspberry award for his portrayal of the Greek Gods.
Whatever Rick doesn't like, Percy doesn't like. Honestly, I can see why some people would think that he's a Gary Stu-literally everyone seems to like him and those who don't are villains or bad side characters. It's pretty tiring.
Why would the gods abandon Greece-especially Athena abandon Athens? It makes no sense, but American superiority takes precedence to actual respect for another country's culture.
He most probably did use his brains on denigrating Athena. And there were totally ways to make Poseidon morally gray, even in Percy's POV (have him threaten Annabeth like Athena threatened Percy. It fits him more too.)
On a side note, I do think that it would be interesting to see Persephone and Demeter have a good relationship but have Demeter not like Hades because, you know, the whole kidnapping thing.
I mean, it's symbolic of course, but if you look at it from their POVs, Demeter would obviously dislike Hades because he kidnapped and kept her daughter from her for 4 months or a half a year.
Maybe have it so that Hades tries to please Demeter and is very apologetic to her? She would probably mellow out with time but she'd still be a little upset with him of course.
Just my thoughts.
One thing I find so interesting about the PJO fandom is how they actually accepted how Rick fucked up 90% of the goddesses. Even when he uses a version of a myth that specifically talks about men being idiots, he villainizes women. Like, no one complained about how fucked up is that he used the story of Hephaestus trying to rape Athena and turning it into a âpoor guy cried bc he was rejected by a girlâ thing?
The true story is literally Hephaestus trying to rape Athena, she fights him off but his semen falls into her skirt and cleans it with a piece of cloth and tosses it into the ground (earth, which is Gaia) and from there, Erictonio is born. And Athena raised the child as her own even tho he was the product of the assault she suffered. The guy ruled Athens.
Rick turned it into Hephaestus falling in love with Athena and crying on her lap, making her reject and KICK him plus being disgusted by the tears and the dirt.
He also used all of Ovid versions he could possibly find to fuck Athena up. Arachne doesnât happen with Greek writers and Medusa was never cursed (or assaulted) when we talk about the OG Myth. She was already born a monster and Athena only helps Perseus kill her bc yeah, Medusa killed people.
Also, Medusaâs version by Ovid is a lot alike Cassandra of Troy story, and let me tell ya, Cassandra was cursed but it wasnât by a woman. And when she was raped by Ajax, Athena made sure that he didnât made it back to Greece.
Now Iâm gonna talk about Demeter. Demeter, who had her daughter kidnapped, raped and imprisoned, and was turned into the typical âmother in law who hated son in law bc she thinks her daughter could do betterâ when yeahâŚshe has all the right to feel angry bc her daughter was KIDNAPPED.
Artemis doesnât hate men and her followers also donât hate men. Feminism isnât about hating men.
Aphrodite. I cannot even describe how dirty they made Aphroditeâs children. Like be fr one of her children helped build what it wouldâve been Rome. He was a fighter. And her cabin there is just so different of what she is truly like. They should have a lot of other powers.
Also, a lot of women from the books follows the same stereotype of âomg I hate makeup itâs so girlish and Iâd rather fightâ like you can be feminine, wear makeup and STILL FIGHT. One doesnât erase the other.
Another thing, but this one is about MOTHERS! I truly cannot understand the way Rick creates his women. Iâm serious tho. Like, Iâm sorry but sometimes it seems that his thing some goddesses (Athena, for example) are personal. The âabandoning Athensâ thing, the âshouldâve chosen Poseidonâ, the way he wrote her as being cold towards her kidsâŚin one of the versions, Athena was the one who saved Dionysus from Hera. She raised a child and made him a king even though he was the product of her almost rapist. She was there helping heroes all along. She fought for Odysseus for ten years.
Also, this fandom is incapable of seeing the difference between Minerva and Athena. Minerva gave Annabeth the mark, Athena had nothing to do with this. Annabeth is her favorite daughter, she made her architect of Olympus, protected her through her journey to find Luke and Thalia, disobeyed her fathers orders trying to help to find Annabeth, made battle plans with her and allâŚand she always claimed all of her children.
I think people just donât like her bc she doesnât trust Percy. And she shouldnât. I love him, but Athena IS the goddess of wisdom after all and as such, it would be pretty dumb to trust a demigod that won a battle against the god of war when he was only twelve. Not to mention that everyone kinda thought the âpreserve or destroy Olympusâ was on his hands. And he tortured a goddessâŚIâm sorry but she was pretty much right. Wouldnât trust someone that had the power to fuck me and my family up either. She dint made the choice based on âomg I hate my rival and his childrenâ even more so bc she was trained by one of his children and bunch of grandchildren. She made the choice based on what she thought was less risky.
If she was so against Percabeth, I can assure you she wouldâve killed Percy and probably wouldnât even suffer much consequences. She admires some things about Percy but she was right about his flaw. And she also helped him during one of his quest to go to college. Does she loves the idea of the relationship? No. But thatâs bc she is precisely the opposite of love. She doesnât make decisions based on what her heart says, but on what her brain says. If she succumbs to the heart, then she would seize to be goddess of wisdom, reason and all of what she values. Thatâs why she vowed to never marry.
And, as Helenist, I do not take the myths that seriously bc when we talk about religion, I have a clear mind that those myth were made by humans who used the gods as a tool to justify some of their actions, and I hate almost all of the retellings that those authors do, but is so wild to see how much power they have on society bc now I cannot see anything about the gods without someone saying shit about them. But I do know all about the myths and I gotta say, doesnât make much sense to use a Roman author to talk about Greek Gods. He made them dirty. Also doesnât make much sense to use this versions of Ovid but still change it to make it more sweet for the men. Poseidon and Athena didnât spend that much time beefing, they even have a city together (Troezen) and she definitely doesnât hate his children. Her best friend was literally his grandchild.
Safe to say that yâall should probably question Rick on how he treats women bc I was seeing the PJO series (the cast is amazing btw, safe to say that Leah/Annabeth is my fav) and by the looks of it, saying on how he changed Athenaâs personality one more time, I legit think that Annie wonât jump to save her friends on season 3, she will probably be pushed by her mother or whatever.
Another thing: apparently only the women that like and have a friendship with Percy are treated as cool. But thatâs on the fandom, not the author.
I forgot to add one thing and Iâm gonna fix the grammar later but the âthis is for childrenâ excuse isnât really valid considering that we saw Gabe being aggressive with Sally, we also saw Ares being a jerk to Clarisse (which also doesnât make sense) and the story clearly states cheating, fights, death and a lot of other terrors. If youâre gonna use a rape version of a myth bc you chose to fuck a Goddess up, then you should state that the man is to blame. In the books we see Medusa saying she was Poseidonâs girlfriend/loverâŚshe was his lover on the og myth, not in the version Rick chose. In the version that he chose, she was clearly raped. But he erased that and replaced rapist with boyfriend. He couldâve chosen to do another path if he didnât want to talk about sexual abuse, I can tell yâall a hundred of ways this could go, but he chose this path and changed it, favoring the man. Again.
He couldâve gone with the theogony and said what was there that basically is: she was a monster, BORN a monster, daughter of other two monsters, no one wanted to get close to her, but he did. They slept together in a camp of flowers.
Athena only enters the story wayyy after this. And, as yâall can see, no curse. Yet, he chose to go with the rape version were Medusa is a maiden, loyal to Athena, gets raped on Athenaâs temple by Poseidon and Athena curses her. And what did the author do? He made this: Medusa, loyal to Athena, fell in love with Poseidon and they did things on her temple. Athena cursed her. Again erasing the menâs fault.
The hate on Athena doesnât make any sense at all. Yâall love some other male characters that donât have a single sense of responsibility and possibly did everything wrong in the book. I saw people condemn Athena for her treatment of Deadalus when the guy literally killed his nephew bc he was more praised than him. And Athena gave him a mark that burned and did some shit to teach him a lesson. Poseidon wanted a trial to avenge his rapist son that was killed by Ares bc he tried to rape one of Ares daughters. A RAPIST. And Poseidon is treated like and angel bc what??? He likes Percy? Is his father and got him a gift? And Athena is being hated bc she isnât his number one fan and her Roman part decided to give Annabeth a Mark? And mind you sheâs just like that with him bc she knows more than everyone else and knows that he is dangerous. A good guy? Yes, Percy is the most amazing guy. Still dangerous. Still had the power to torture a goddess and win against the god of war. And she doesnât dislike him, she dislikes his relationship with her daughter. And even so, she didnât stop the relationship. So yeah I wonât ever get why the women always get more hate than the men considering this.
Again, as a Helenist, I donât take the myths seriously when I talk about the religion in general bc the Gods are superiors. They donât have human flaws. But, as someone who knows about the myths, is safe to say I hate those stories that uses myths like that and turns it against the Goddesses and make them out to be the worst ever. All the gods deserved way better than what they got with those retellings.
The thing is, Demeter and Persephone had a beautiful relationship. And modern pieces that depict Greek culture simply justâŚâŚâŚ.ruin it. Lore Olympus, Percy Jackson, Blood of Olympus, Hades even. It's disheartening that we're so misogynistic that we can't just let a mother and daughter love each other without complications or trauma. No, we have always have to make Demeter the controlling, overprotective, helicopter mother and Persephone the rebel daughter. It's disgusting, frankly, and I would love to see a piece of media where they simply have a loving, functional relationship.
In my opinion, it would have been interesting to have Tam and Linh's characters switched.
A muscular, closed off, angry at the world Asian girl who can pack a few punches but really loves her brother and a sweet Asian boy who is more optimistic than his twin sister but still ready to kill for her if need be.
It would've been a pretty interesting dynamic to see.
A smaller tragedy in HOO was that Hazel's golden eyes never amounted to anything. Hazel has golden eyes-Kronos' golden eyes-and nothing ever comes of this.
Percy and Annabeth never freeze when they look her in the eyes, reminded of Luke's golden eyes, Kronos' golden eyes. Pluto never avoids looking her in the eyes for this reason. Her eyes never unsettle anyone-the Olympians or the gods. It's a shame that Hazel's eyes could have been a cool minor detail that caused her more insecurity about her looks, but she could have eventually learned to overcome it and take the golden eyes back on her own accord.
part 2 of my ask about demigod scents and technology because the previous one would be too long and disorganised otherwise
Anyway:
I highly doubt that Piper, the teenaged daughter of a famous Hollywood movie star, had 0 access to phones growing up. I could see Tristan blocking certain social media apps to try and protect her (cause people are gross online to teenage girls and I donât think heâs that incompetent of a parent to not care, especially as his fame grew). It meshes well with her backstory as well - Jane/ another assistant/ Tristan himself couldâve handed Piper a phone and expect that to fix her need for parental attention that wasnât purely monetary, especially since Tristan wouldnâtâ ve known about demigods not being safe near phones
Frank couldâve not been allowed a phone due to his grandmother knowing about the Poseidon ancestry (if I remember right), but he also had the most normal childhood compared to the rest of the 7, as he likely went to a regular school (I remember he mentions participating in spelling bees), so he wouldâve been around them for a good chunk of the day
Maybe consistency with his own worldbuilding is too much to ask from Rick anymore
This-all of this. You're right. Frank's grandmother could not be around him and protect him all the time. He would have used some technology-he would have encountered some monsters.
I wish we knew if he was homeschooled or went to normal school. We don't even know that much about his pre-CJ life.
You know that meme where an angry-looking guy yells at his employees for ideas and then he throws the third guy out of the window for suggesting something he doesn't like?
That's Rick and his consistency respectively.
'Oh, the PJO fandom is so toxic-'
'Ooooooh, Keepblr is so meeeeeeeeean-'
'Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, TFOTA fandom is such a HIVEMIND-'
Find me a fandom that isn't toxic. I swear every fandom is toxic. Find me one that isn't. I dare you.
Ok, so, regarding the Nico and Bianca situation in PJO. So, people argue against the parentification of Bianca. First, her memories were wiped, then she and Nico were taken to the Lotus Casino, which made them forget all their worries! How could she have raised him then? And, yeah, you're right. But, hold on, we know that they were taken out of the Lotus Casino sometime after TLT. Now, they in there for 70 years. We don't know their reaction to modern technology, but I'm pretty sure that they DEFINITELY weren't used to it. Kids their age (biologically speaking) would know how to use basic technology in that era, and they didn't. Hell, they barely knew anything. Their syllabus was probably different, too. And can you imagine being snapped out of a month-long fun vacation, having to leave the literal LOTUS CASINO, and then being told that for a second time that hey, your parents are dead, but don't worry! They left a HUGE trust fund for you! Well, a trust fund wouldn't be enough to alleviate Bianca's fears. She and Nico only have each other right now, and yeah, they were in different dorms and classes, but is that really enough? Like, imagine your parents are dead, and you go to a hotel to have a month long fun vacation, but suddenly YOU'RE RIPPED OUT and then you remember that and you have a younger brother to take care of, and now you're in a whole different era and you don't really KNOW anything, you don't know what to do, what to study, maybe you're even falling behind in class. And now you know that sure, there might be a trust fund, but how long till it runs out? And then you'll have to fend for yourself AND your brother. It's just, I think being thrown into a whole new era really subconsciously affected Nico and Bianca in a bad way. I think Bianca thought that she was somewhat parentified because their parents were dead, and the trust fund wasn't eternal, and one day she'd have to fend for Nico and herself.
If you want to argue, please do.
