A workshop teaching Zionists how to edit Wikipedia pages to be more favorable towards Israel. This is just one of many Israeli projects to manipulate Wikipedia, social media, and the Internet in general.

The speaker in the video is Naftali Bennet, a high tech millionaire and a right-wing Israeli minister close to the settler movement.

In 2010 two Israeli groups began offering a course in “Zionist editing” of Wikipedia entries. The aim was “to make sure that information in the online encyclopedia reflects the worldview of Zionist groups.” A course organizer explained that the use of the word “occupied” in Wikipedia entries “was just the kind of problem she hoped a new team of editors could help fix.”

Again in 2013, there was evidence of pro-Israel tampering with Wikipedia. Israel’s Ha’aretz reported that a social-media employee of NGO Monitor edited articles about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in an allegedly biased manner. “Draiman concealed the facts that he was an employee of NGO Monitor, often described as a right-wing group, and that he was using a second username, which is forbidden under Wikipedia’s rules,” according to the paper.

Such actions have had an impact. A website critical of Wikipedia said in 2014 that there were “almost ten times as many articles about murdered Israeli children as there are articles about murdered Palestinian children,” even though at least 10 times more Palestinian children had been killed.

Israel’s Ha’aretz newspaper reported: “The organizers’ aim was twofold: to affect Israeli public opinion by having people who share their ideological viewpoint take part in writing and editing for the Hebrew version, and to write in English so Israel’s image can be bolstered abroad.”

There was to be a prize for the “Best Zionist Editor”—the person who over the next four years incorporated the most “Zionist” changes in the encyclopedia. The winner would receive a trip in a hot-air balloon over Israel.

How Israel and its partisans work to censor the Internet

Israel and partisans of Israel have long had a significant presence on the Internet, working to promote the lsrael narrative and block facts about Palestine, the Israel lobby, and other subject matter they wish covered up.

Opinionated proponents of Israel post comments, flag content, accuse critics of "antisemitism, and disseminate misinformation about Palestine and Palestine solidarity activists. Many of these actions are by individuals acting alone who work independently, voluntarily, and relentlessly.

In addition to these, however, a number of orchestrated, often well-funded projects sponsored by the Israeli government and others have come to light. These projects work to place pro-lsrael content throughout the Internet, and to remove information Israel doesn't wish people to know.

One such Israeli project targeting the Internet came to light when it was lauded in an article by Arutz Sheva, an Israeli news organization headquartered in an Israeli settlement in the West Bank.

The report described a new project by Israel's "New Media desk" that focused on YouTube and other social media sites. The article reported that Israeli soldiers were being employed to Tweet, Share, Like and more."The article noted, "It is well known nowadays that what happens on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube has great influence on events as they occur on the ground. The Internet, too, is a battleground." It was"comforting," the article stated, to learn that the IDF was employing soldiers whose job was specifically to do battle on it.

TikTok studies proved that Palestinian content was outperforming Israeli content at a 54:1 ratio (without algorithm manipulation). So the Israel lobby is in full attack mode right now. I'm having flashbacks to that week before Vine went down and we had to grab everything we could [source: @ LexiAlex on X, formerly known as Twitter. 12/01/23].

Responding to a post on Fortune Magazine: Jewish tech leaders met with TikTok's CEO to raise concerns that the platform is biased toward pro-Palestina content.

tiktok will let IOF members post trendy videos about preparing to attack and/or justify the genocide of Palestinian people; the same tiktok that will also let zionists mass report ANY account calling out IOF war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity... and they have the audacity to say there's 'bias,' when one side (the IOF) is aggressively dehumanizing, terrorizing and murdering Palestinian people, and the 'other side,' wants it to stop... dares to say end the occupation and free Palestine...

when i say apart from the wonderful creators doing educational content on tiktok and those who are doing their best to share and spread awareness about many global issues, and overall all the non-problematic content that many folks like (i love you with my whole heart) -but tiktok, on an administrative level, can be so fucking irritating, and is one of the reasons i sincerely can't stand this app, and why i have slowly moved away from making content there.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a zine?

A fanzine is a collaboratively-published magazine of fanworks. It can include art, writing, and many other kinds of creative work.

What is this zine about?

Tea, Toast & Ghosts is a character- and ship-neutral celebration of the Lockwood & Co fandom, meaning you can submit both gen and ship-related ideas. It is also open to both book and show canon, meaning there will be spoilers for show-only fans.

This issue’s theme will be:

“What’s your favorite part of Lockwood & Co.?” with a twist. We challenge you to frame your piece as something you might see in one of the gossip magazines Lockwood loves to read in his free time.

What will the format of this zine be in?

This zine will be made available as a free digital PDF, set in single-page, portrait A4 pages. We will also have a text-only accessible version made available for blind and low-vision fans.

What will be the rating for this zine?

This zine will be SFW, and will allow submissions rated from G up to PG-13.

Where can I apply?

Applications are open until 21st August. Our schedule can be found here.

We ask that you include three proposals for your piece in your application, so that we can see how well it goes with the zine concept, and to make sure there aren’t too many of the same ideas among different contributors. We will confirm the idea proposals with applicants only after they have been accepted as a zine contributor so these do not need to be final.

Who can apply?

Anyone interested, regardless of previous experience in zines or other related projects, may apply as a contributor.

A detailed list of eligibility requirements can be found in our Contributor Guidelines.

All applicants will be expected to include a working link to their portfolio (art account, writing account, or other examples of your work), so we can have a better understanding of who they are and what they may create for the zine.

Can I submit something I’ve already started working on or finished as part of my idea proposals?

Yes, so long as it is something you haven’t posted or shared publicly already. However, we recommend that you tailor your proposals so that they fit our concept and theme for this zine. New and unfinished works will be given priority.

I have only read the Lockwood & Co books / only watched the TV series. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can. However, we expect that there will be spoilers for both the books and show in the zine. We recommend that you complete both series before applying.

What are contributors expected to create?

We will be accepting several different forms of original, fannish work. A non-exhaustive list of examples can be found in the Contributor Guidelines.

Are all Lockwood & Co characters allowed?

Yes! We welcome both book and show interpretations of any Lockwood & Co characters.

Are collaborations allowed?

Yes! The zine is open to collaborations, but between confirmed contributors only. Collaborators will be expected to communicate well amongst themselves so they can deliver their zine pieces on time.

An individual contributor may also create a multi-media piece that involves both writing and artistic aspects.

Any content that is strictly prohibited?

Content may be evaluated and rejected on a case-by-case basis by the mod team. The following are not allowed:

AI-generated content (Whether fully or partially; this applies to both artwork and writing.)

RPF (Real Person/People Fiction)

Original Character-centric pieces. This zine is first and foremost a celebration of the existing characters we all know and love. Inclusion of OCs can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Alternate Universe pieces (such as royalty AUs or spy AUs). This zine is set in The Problem-era England.

For further information, see the Contributor Guidelines.

I am taking part in the 2023 Lockwood & Co. Big Bang. Can I still participate in this zine?

We would love to have you! Please keep in mind that both the Lockwood & Co. Big Bang and this zine require a time commitment of several months where you will be expected to manage your own schedule, communicate with mods, and meet deadlines promptly.

While both events are centered around the same fandom, you will be expected to create a separate and unique piece for this zine.

I have an unanswered question. How can I contact you?

You can email us at teatoastandghosts@gmail.com, or send us an ask here on Tumblr. More information can be found on our Contact Us page.

Chapter 2 Of Vertigo Is Up!

Chapter 2 of Vertigo is up!

Though most people would find the time after a carnival closes quite eerie; to Lucy it felt like coming home. She could easily imagine what the carnival looked like at the start of the evening, with all its lamps ablaze, and carnies and punters alike laughing and shouting as they strolled between the many tents set up inside the makeshift boundary. Though most tents were closed up now, Lucy could easily recognise some familiar (and most likely rigged) stall games, a rather large Hall of Mirrors, and the main striped circus tent itself - a three ring, she’d estimate from sight alone, if the large sign at the entrance hadn’t already confirmed that for her.

Once again, massive thank you to my beta, @ayeaye-capn, and my wonderful artist, @radishwizard 💕
