Ridiculously specific thing I'm thinking about (and this is in really broad strokes and will segue later) but something I've noticed is that English Visual Novels tend to have their character sprites cut off around the knees more than I usually see in Japanese VNs, where they'll cut off around the hips or waist (unless characters are supposed to be explicitly standing further away.)
(Screenshots from Hustle Cat, Dream Daddy, and Growing Up's Steam pages)
(Screenshots from Little Busters, Aokana, and White Album's Steam pages)
Obviously this is a huge oversimplification. I've seen lots of EVNs that have sprite crop at the hips or thighs and vice versa.
But I think there's interesting presentation benefits to both methods.
If you crop at the knees, you can see more of the character designs, and probably fit more characters onscreen without it feeling as cramped. That would be useful for third person games, where you'll probably have more than one character on-screen for most of the game, if you decide your main character should have their own sprite when they talk.
The hips method, on the other hand, could make the speaking character feel closer to the camera/an invisible first-person protagonist. I think that could promote a more "intimate" feeling, which could be desirable in romance games.
It also never hurts to experiment with visuals that zoom in and out on the sprites, with varying crops.
(Screenshots from Muv-Luv's VNDB page)
For example, I think Muv-Luv looks fantastic. It positions the characters on a sort of 3D plane, and I remember it having small camera pans. It's useful for immersion, even before it begins showing action sequences. I know it's taxing to direct, but I've always wished more VNs looked like Muv-Luv. It's also a game from 2003, which makes it doubly impressive.
I've heard minori titles like Supipara and eden*, or Type-Moon titles like Mahoutsukai no Yoru or the Tsukihime remake are also a cut above the rest in how "cinematic" they feel, but I have less familiarity with those games (although I'm planning to play them in the future). I'm also running low on space in the post to add many more pictures, and expressing the focus on "movement" in more cinematic VNs is difficult to do with still images.
I don't really have a point to end on, these are just some assorted visual novel thoughts.

If you have any feedback, or notice any bugs, feel free to send it to my inbox or post on the game's forum thread.
I think every computer user needs to read this because holy fucking shit this is fucking horrible.
So Windows has a new feature incoming called Recall where your computer will first, monitor everything you do with screenshots every couple of seconds and "process that" with an AI.
Hey, errrr, fuck no? This isn't merely because AI is really energy intensive to the point that it causes environmental damage. This is because it's basically surveilling what you are doing on your fucking desktop.
This AI is not going to be on your desktop, like all AI, it's going to be done on another server, "in the cloud" to be precise, so all those data and screenshot? They're going to go off to Microsoft. Microsoft are going to be monitoring what you do on your own computer.
Now of course Microsoft are going to be all "oooh, it's okay, we'll keep your data safe". They won't. Let me just remind you that evidence given over from Facebook has been used to prosecute a mother and daughter for an "illegal abortion", Microsoft will likely do the same.
And before someone goes "durrr, nuthin' to fear, nuthin to hide", let me remind you that you can be doing completely legal and righteous acts and still have the police on your arse. Are you an activist? Don't even need to be a hackivist, you can just be very vocal about something concerning and have the fucking police on your arse. They did this with environmental protesters in the UK. The culture war against transgender people looks likely to be heading in a direction wherein people looking for information on transgender people or help transitioning will be tracked down too. You have plenty to hide from the government, including your opinions and ideas.
Again, look into backing up your shit and switching to Linux Mint or Ubuntu to get away from Microsoft doing this shit.
This is actually so usefull, I haven't posted any of my art yet but I do draw lol.
Compiled some basic information I know about drawing fat characters for beginners since I've been seeing more talk about absence of really basic traits in a lot of art lately.

I tried to loosely put them next to similiar genres in the lineup.
Change of plans, instead of updating "soon", I've just updated it right now. The chapter was complete, I'd fixed all of my beta reader's reported errors... The only thing left to do was get it out to you guys. So here it is, you can play Track 3 of Press Play right here.
It's 81k words excluding code, bringing the entire game up to 200k words. I encourage you to try a lot of different things, because this chapter is the branchiest yet, and you may be surprised by what you find can happen. In this chapter, you will...
go to a party (or stay home)
record your first song... and then another!
get the chance to reach a truce with that one shadow from your past
have a cozy Christmas dinner with your friends and family
get your career boosted by a completely unexpected opportunity
...and lots more!
I'm very excited to share this with you. Also, I guess that this means my askbox needs opening again, which I am slightly reluctant to do after originally wanting a break from it but am going to anyhow. I'm really looking forward to what you have to say! If there's any glaring issues, don't hesitate to reach out. Also also, reblogs help me out a bunch so feel free!
Added: +150k (including code + duplicate job scenes with text variations)
Here is episode 2. The demo is over 300,000 words and since the last update I've learned the trick of separating files so there will likely be errors and maybe some inconsistencies/continuity errors. Please give me a heads up if you do find any error or typo. I will be looking for beta testers in the future. This is my first IF so I'm still learning as I go.
After fixing everything, I remain uncertain about the stats. A large part of me doesn't want visible stats at all since there's so many I can use, limiting myself to a couple is making it difficult to balance them. If anyone has any suggestions from other IFs or from experience, I'm happy to hear them.
See the aftermath of episode 1's cliffhanger.
Get a taste of what work is going to look like now that you're starting...and learn news of a possible promotion opportunity. The seeds of a rivalry are planted.
Meet two new people that may or may not become regular faces in your life.
Meet G (editor route)
Go to a club with your roommates to cheer up.
I forgot how to color bruv 🙈
T'is my girl from the mega hit IF infamous by @infamous-if 🥵
I accidentally, somehow, perhaps made a devil walking. And the way she cares about nobody but herself and her so called fame I'm struggling to see how I'll manage to pull any bitches that will be willing to stay at the end.
Definition of don't meet your heroes I'm sorry Maya.
Venera - otherwise Yoshinaga Keiko, the lead vocalist of Double Gum Gun.
Our Life: Ages
Well, as far as I can tell, this is accurate. So, here y'all go I guess!
The colours coincide with the games btw, and their respective Steps from - 1 to 4. BlueGreen for OLBA, GoldOrange for OLNF.
It doesn't have all the ages, but it has most of the relevant ones presently. I'll probably make another one later with the NF parents and extras too, but I just wanted this one for easy reference atm.
