The Fine Art of Design.
Did a magazine ad for a great vintage shop in Palm Springs. Was a fun project and allowed me to do more textural work which I’ve been getting into recently, and a touch of screentone which I’ve found hard to incorporate into my style but like the challenge a lot.
Season 3 Episode 13 in which two highschool girls experience the true power of planetary alignment! They kill baby Ryan Reynolds and are accused of Satanic conjuring by an increasingly agitated town. Some dude gets murdered by a spring... great episode.
This is part of an ongoing project to catalogue the villains from the television series X Files. Check out the others here!
Bird 2: Rock Pigeon
The indefatigable Rock Dove a.k.a Rock Pigeon a.k.a “Pigeon” a.k.a a lot of awful names. The quintessential New York City bird is up for today’s small part of the large Birds Of Brooklyn poster set I’m working on. I hope you’ll keep tagging along as I uncover more of the avian element of where I and so many nature lovers call home (even though we should be living somewhere a lot more natural if we’re honest with ourselves). Thank goodness for Prospect Park.
On Mustaches
During May, my friend and I entered into a collaborative competition of mustaches. We both vowed to grow a stache and it turned out to be a good time because neither of us really needed to be seen by anybody potentially important for about the whole month*. The first few days were easy because I don’t like shaving and only do so every three days. After a week, it got pretty hard. Anyone with sparse facial hair will know the embarrassment and overall badlooks of a thin beard. It wasn’t for a few weeks that I could shave and have my face noticeably be-stached. Once this happened the hardtimes got worse, because I looked very much like a guy who is up to no good - but I powered through, growing the heck out of this rough stuff. I ended Mustache May with a serious fumanchu. Since the end of the month, though, I’ve been unable to shave it completely off. I even went so far as to allow myself a small soul-patch and it concerns me. I took inspiration from a French zombie movie where my darkened, Parisian doppelgänger had a superlative handlebar with flavor-saver. We’ll see where my facial hair takes me. For now, have a look at the evolution.
* we can argue about how you can meet someone important at any time, but this really was a long shot considering what we were doing and where we were.
Bird One: Bufflehead
Kicked off the new bird-poster project in earnest today. I’ve a duck to show for it. Messing around with a few art styles and so far this is the one that is sticking. Not something I’ve really done before but I’m liking the direction. I especially like the slight caricature look of this guy while retaining that aviary nobility… Much more to come. This is 1/30 (I think).
Working on a wedding invitation for best buds. Maybe 30 or so more like this - but not just fish, it’s not a fish wedding, my buds are people. This is a brook trout though.
Legends of Rock #07 - John Lennon
Fab four week closes with the dashing John. He sang, played guitar and wrote consistently great Beatles tracks. These guys were truly Legends of Rock.
(all the Beatles are available through my shop and will be part of a set as well)
Space Game - concept art for a tower defense game based in space.
Ghost Ghoster - character designs for a game about putting ghosts to rest.
Hair Brain
I believe my hair is gaining majority control over my brain. Evident after shampooing twice this morning, one application on top of the other, already lathered and shaped to my daily specifications. I need to haircut shop. Which celebrity’s photo should I take to my lady?
Friend Mold is a comic I wrote and illustrated about relationships, detailing what one must go through to become more than a friend to a member of the opposite sex. Digital release took place over the months of January and February with the last page arriving on February 14th. If you're interested in publishing Friend Mold drop me a line!
