Diary of a Wimpy Kid dir. Thor Freudenthal
How long do i have to romanticise my life for before it actually gets romantic? just curious.
i’m sure i’ve missed a few things, but i can’t stand to look at it any longer. i present to you: the good, the bad, and the ugly of tumblr throughout the decade
Look, the act of self love ain’t never been no easy thing — especially when you’re experiencing copious amounts of scarcity, shame, disenfranchisement, or loss. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be a 10 billion dollar skin-lightening industry in countries where the world’s darkest people reside. Forty-two percent of voting women wouldn’t have voted for Donald Trump (an anti-choice, anti-union, anti-poor, pro-war, sexual harassment enthusiast).
And I, processing yet another anguishing break-up with someone who’s made it overtly and painfully clear that they no longer want anything to do with me, would be focusing more on healing, pursuing my goals, and moving through grief, rather than spending my days staring at his facebook page, miserably pining for his affection and attention, and desperately reaching out to him even when I know better.
That’s not to say that folks who use skin bleaching cream or vote for fascists don’t feel love for themselves. And I’ll put it on all that’s holy and sacred that I love and treasure every ounce and texture of my tender, sensitive, butter-cup of a heart. When u meet the egg quota but there's only one player left with less than 10 seconds left on the clock
Imagine all of the insufferable oscar bait quarantine movies that are gonna come out in a few years, about a husband and wife forced to stay home together, and slowly learn to actually love and appreciate their spouse.
Reminder to not give up, you are bringing about change.
List of positives to come out of the recent protests as of June 4:
- George Floyd’s murderer charged with murder and manslaughter, then had charges increased, then the officers that watched it happen were charged with aiding and abetting
- Louisville police (Breonna Taylor’s murderers) department will now be under review from an outside agency, which will include review on training, bias-free policing and accountability. (Unfortunately her killers have still not faced charges yet as far as I could find.)
- Charges are to be dropped for Kenneth Walker
- Atlanta has announced plans to create a task force + public database to track police brutality in metro Atlanta area
- Minneapolis city council members are considering disbanding police force in favor of a “community-oriented, nonviolent public safety and outreach capacity”
- Colorado lawmakers have introduced an incredible police reform bill that includes body cam laws, repealing the “fleeing felon” statute, banning chokeholds, and more
Feel free to add more if you know of more!
just a reminder:
a black girl character growing her hair out long breaks more stereotypes than a black girl character having short hair
a black girl character getting to be soft and fragile breaks more stereotypes than a black girl character being strong all the time
a black girl character being protected and comforted by others breaks more stereotypes than a black girl character having no one to look out for her but herself
a black girl character being considered pretty or cute by other characters breaks more stereotypes than a black girl character being considered unattractive
not everything that is empowering for white girls is empowering for black girls
the sexism we face overlaps, but it is not the same
On the subject of black people and reproductive health (and if you’re black and capable of having children/have a cycle you have some of THE worse reproductive issues, i’m so sorry), I think about the time that white trans masc joined in on ridiculing reproductive health and restrictions in Texas, that affect primarily black and brown people, including black trans people. So to see some of them joining in on in on this conversation of a black trans employee being fired, when they were aye okay with wishing Texas blew up and had the audacity to be upset when people were centering black and brown people in reproductive justice, is infuriating. This is what I mean when i say some of this is so clearly performative.
Like I am actually very tired of white and non-black trans people using us as cannon fodder as well as our experiences, but turning around and being anti-black two seconds later.
I guess reproductive health and pregnancy for trans folks only matter when it’s white and non-black trans people? Or police violence only matters when it’s non-black trans people.
