Humphrey Van Zieks,

Humphrey Van Zieks,

We hope you will take a few moments of your time to respond to our survey.

You are the father or lord Barok, yes? How many other children have you fathered? Is that number different from your amount your wife has had? Names of said children, would be appreciated.

Your response will be recorded anonymously. Thank you for participating in our survey

Fictitious Dai Gyakuten Saiban Census Bureau

To the FDGSCB,

I find your questions rather insulting, though I feel I have no choice but to answer them. Yes, I am the father of Lord Barok. Of course I am. In terms of other children, I am the father of the late Klimt and Rosamund, with my wife, the late Eloise.

In terms of other children, how am I supposed to know? It is not my responsibility to keep track of them. I am not the one who was pregnant, nor did I live with anyone else who may have been. I was with my wife, with whom I had three children.

Barok,

What does Benjamin even study for a living? He seems both enthusiastic but also a little confused

Anon,

Barok,

Benjamin can be... a bit of a fool. That being said, he is quite enthusiastic about what he does. He studies the sciences. I know that lately, in the field of science, they have started differentiating based on specialties but Benjamin is, at heart, a scientist.

Barok,

I do not think he necessarily has an end goal. I feel as though he studies simply anything and everything. Whatever interests him, whatever it is that he wants to know, he will do research into the subject. He has a particular fondness for birds, musculature, and machinery.

Barok,

I do not appreciate when people try to insinuate that what he does is worthless. He already struggles because of what Enoch had done to him, and he does not need more pressure of that kind. I feel as though he simply has an endless fondness for learning. All he wants to do is learn more about the world around him. I see that as a noble task.

To the ghosts of Klimt and Genshin,

Between the two of you, who is the William and who is the Henry? Feel free to use your ghostly powers to comprehend what this means.

Dear anon,

You already know the answer.

Can ghosts of dead characters interact with the living characters? πŸ‘»

Hello!

I think that ghost characters can interact with the living characters. I cannot say that the stuff within those conversations will remain canon, if that makes sense? For example, if Klimt tells Barok some information he didn't know before, he probably wouldn't be able to recall it, but I think if they've talked before he would be able to remember it again.

Maybe he'd remember it like a dream, or something? It's tough, because this is technically happening through letters, but I would like to see some interactions like that happen. The one thing is, if someone sends an ask from a character but it feels too out of character, I may not answer it.

I hope that makes sense! Signed, Mod of the Baskervilles

dear sherlock holmes: do any of mr mikotobas friends ever ask you to dance. if yes, do they say "go white boy, go" and if not, would you dance for them hypothetically

Dearest Ribbonroad,

I'm afraid to bring the mood down, but Yuujin does seem to be running out of friends. That being said, Jigoku was a rather large fan of the term 'jig', and therefore he and I ended up doing a lively jig together whenever we saw one another.

He did not use the phrase you mentioned, as I have never heard anyone use that phrase before. As for if I would dance for him... Ah, it would be hard to say no!

Rosie, how would you describe yourself?

Dear uniquartz,

That's an interesting question! I think I would say I'm adventurous, and silly, and brave... People have told me that I'm pretty, but that doesn't really matter to me. If my looks have nothing to do with my ability to sing, dance, talk, laugh, run... why should I care?

I also would like to think of myself as a good older sister and a good friend!

Thank you!! Rosie

For Madame Tuspells:

I would like to preface this by saying I am a great admirer of yours, of your work as an artist and of your determination in the way you effectively utilized ✨girl power✨ when you broke into the cemetery that Fateful Night and contributed to Lord Stronghart's downfall πŸ€πŸ’–.

That being said, what have you been up to since the events of that November when The Great Secret Trial was held? It is my understanding that since Lord Van Zieks made the truth about the Professor case public, you were formally asked to close down your special exhibit. How have you been since then? Are you planning to replace your special exhibit with another new work?

Best wishes,

Anon

Bonsoir, Anon.

I am always thankful to hear from a happy customer! While I do appreciate any sort of publicity, good publicity does tend to help me. As for the downfall of that old man, well, I am happy to rid the world of such men. Men who demand instead of ask.

That trial has changed the environment in this foggy city. The fog descended for a while, muddying the minds of everyone on the streets, curdling the joy that was in the air from the great exhibition. In those months, my beautiful museum was closed. I used the time to create new exhibits... including one about that very trial.

I have discussed the events with many of the people I met in that trial, and while I wanted to do a figure of that detective who was killed, a fierce young girl convinced me not to. A shame, too, as it was so well preserved in that photograph...

Ah, well. I am fortunate to be joined in my creative and sales endeavors by a charming young lady with an affinity for flames. The two of us have gotten on like a... like she says, like a barn on fire.

Sherlock, did you get your partner's letter? - πŸ’œ

My dear πŸ’œ,

Sherlock, Did You Get Your Partner's Letter? - πŸ’œ

I am very pleased to announce that yes, I have received my partner's letter. I can only assume he answered as quickly as possible, which delighted me more than I can state. The contents of this letter, I cannot share, but let it be known that my melancholic violin playing was unwarranted.

Sherlock, Did You Get Your Partner's Letter? - πŸ’œ

Suffice it to say, I shall be purchasing a boat ticket soon!

Signed, Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock or Mikotoba how did you meet???

Anon,

A gif of Yuujin Mikotoba in his London suit, looking intense and talking.

It is a story that I think of quite often. I had been staying with my friends in a hotel, but the two of them were looking for a flat, and I realized that I needed somewhere closer to my place of work. I brought this up to one of my coworkers--Dr. John Watson, to be exact--and he informed me that the brother of one of his friends was also looking for a flatmate in the precise area where I was looking.

When I arrived and we first interacted, he approached me with a list of things that would put off a roommate. His flaws, I believe he called them. He then asked me for a list of mine, which I gave him. It was an incredibly strange conversation. You may not believe, but he used to be quite a stoic man. He did not show many of his emotions, he was cold and calculated... so you would imagine my surprise when he told me to stand and walk to the middle of the pub where we had met.

He told me the steps to a dance. I thought doing it would make me look ridiculous, so he insisted on dancing first. I watched, I laughed, I joined in, and we looked ridiculous together.

People have said that Holmes is a man who does not understand social cues. Those people are wrong. He knew exactly what I needed at that moment, and I cannot thank him enough for such a warm welcome. We moved in that same day.

It was strange living with him, but I will treasure those years for the rest of my life. My apologies for going on and on, but it is a story that I hold near and dear to my heart.

Thank you for asking! Dr. Yuujin Mikotoba

For herlock, what are your intentions for my friend and your self proclaimed β€œpartner”?

-genshin

Dearest Genshin,

A gif of Sherlock Holmes/Herlock Sholmes from dgs holding a pipe in his mouth, eyes closed.

My intentions for my partner all depend upon what his intentions for me may be. I assure you it is nothing improper, and--

EGADS!

Detective Asougi?! You have been dead for many years! Am I conversing with a ghost? How could this be possible?

A gif of Sherlock Holmes/Herlock Sholmes from dgs posing.

Do not scare me like that, Detective! I know I frustrated you in life, but you do not have to frighten me so!

A gif of Sherlock Holmes/Herlock Sholmes from dgs pointing to the side and talking.

That being said, I have sent him a letter expressing my feelings towards him and asking him to come to England. Perhaps, if he cannot, I may visit him in Japan. I miss him dearly.

Frightened, Herlock Sholmes

ryuuno out of all your friends who is the most bumpin like fried bologna

Dear ribbonroad,

Your question perplexes me. I don't know what you mean by bumpin, and I did have to ask for help on what bologna was. I first asked Mikotoba-sensei, who told me that it was a place in Italy. I don't know how you would fry a place in Italy, and that does indeed sound like a bad thing. I then asked Susato-chan, and she informed me that it was a form of dried meat, like a sausage. As I happen to quite like fried sausages, especially when Iris is preparing them, I can assume you're asking which of my friends is as good as fried sausages.

That is quite a difficult question to answer... I have a lot of friends in my life who I deeply care for. I'd like to say that my best friend would be anyone who helped form who I am today, but that doesn't narrow it down at all. I would not be the man I am today without everyone who was there by my side in court. I also would not be the man I am today if a frightened young girl hadn't accidentally hurt Asougi.

I love all of my friends. I miss the friends, and even the acquaintances, I left behind in London. There is so much that I need to say to them that I haven't had the chance to, that I can't say until I see them face to face once more.

That doesn't seem to answer your question, but my mind is full of things I need to say that cannot be expressed in this letter.

With care, Naruhodou Ryuunosuke
