I met this nice girl through my college friend. She's my friend's childhood best friend and I had heard so much about her so I was really excited to finally meet her. The three of us hung out at a stupid school-sponsored event into the late hours of the night, drinking soda and eating pizza and getting to know each other. At the end of it, she entered into a raffle and ended up winning free tickets to Disneyland. We celebrated and parted ways. It was the highlight of that semester.

A few months later, Israel began dropping bombs on her family home. I watched from afar as her entire life fell apart and her family was displaced and killed. Every time I asked how she was doing, she was doing bad.

In Palestine, as in a lot of places in the world, it is shameful to ask for money. A little bit after the war began, I passed a message along to her family offering to help raise funds for their evacuation, but they declined saying that they didn't want pity from anyone. Now it seems like they're running out of options.

I Met This Nice Girl Through My College Friend. She's My Friend's Childhood Best Friend And I Had Heard

My friend has already lost so much so please spare her the additional indignity of asking for help and not receiving it. I can't imagine how soul crushing it would be to do something you believe to be shameful and for your effort to go to waste.

Their goal is only $5000 and they've already raised ~$820, I don't see why we can't raise the full amount within the next week.

Verified by the fact that this is literally my IRL. DM me if u wanna see her Instagram or other contact info proving she's real. Tumblr is a rather unsafe place for Palestinians so I'd rather not publicize all her personal info but I've been pretty careful with the fundraisers I boost on this blog so I hope you can trust me here.

quick life tips that aren't worthy of a whole post

Your to-do lists are menus, not marching orders. I've gotten so much out of doing a weekly brain dump and then just selecting a few things out of it. Like "here are all the things I could do, not I'll pick a few that would improve my life in a meaningful way and a few that I just want to, the rest can chill". Unless you achieve enlightenment, we all die with unfinished business. It's chill. You're not a failure. It's just an option.

Create a capsule menu of shelf stable and long lasting fridge foods for when you don't feel like menu planning. Like a capsule wardrobe. Cooking oil is like your underwear, it's a base necessity. Then 3 sources of protein, 3 sources of fiber, 3 sources of volume. For us, proteins are canned chicken, eggs, and yogurt. Fiber is frozen vegetable mix, chia seeds, and legumes. Volume is rice, frozen bread, or oatmeal. Pick three spice mixes (Taco, Curry, and Cajun for us) and mix and match. Add some fun items like cheese, jam, and a condiment or two. Mix and match, throw something together. You can even roll on a dice table for it.

Morale items aren't pointless or wasteful. I spent entirely too much on coffeemonsterzco stickers recently. Guess who's updated their bullet journal and memory keeping calendar for several weeks now? Me. Guess who's already had it uncover and recontextualize medical issues? Also me. It's not pointless. Get the damn stickers.

Listing three good things everyday/gratitude is not overblown hype. It's not meant to dismiss negative feelings or even make you feel good - it helps you correct for you brain's negativity bias and create cognitive flexibility which in turn improves resilience and decision making. Way too many people get the wrong read on it. It's genuinely helped me lately even through some real unfun shit.

There is a young Palestinian man depicted in a simple style in the center of the drawing against a yellow background. He has brown skin, a blue shirt, and neat hair, and he has a small smile. He is holding onto an olive branch, that have green and black olives growing on it. He is surrounded by pink hearts and a Palestinian flag. There is a QR code to his fundraiser on the bottom left corner. A white cloud with the message, "Mohammed's Family Needs Your Help!!" is included at the top.
Against a yellow background there are the words "Help Mohammed's Family Escape Genocide" written at the top. There are image elements of an olive branch, a poppy flower, a photo of Mohammed, and a photo of his destroyed home from Israeli bombing. These images surround text that reads:"Mohammed is a 21-year old Palestinian university student. He lives in Gaza with his loving family while studiously attending to his studies. However, his life was torn apart after the bombing of his family home and the martyrdom of his older sister, her husband, and their 4-year-old daughter. His family has been displaced four times, while struggling to provide basic necessities for themselves. Mohammed urgently needs to raise $70,000 for evacuation fees and daily necessities, so he can seek safety for his family and resume his academic journey. https://gofund.me/6fe2a44a"

Mohammed and his family are in need of your help!! They are still very far from their goal of $70,000, currently only having raised $5,878 to evacuate from Gaza. Every donation counts so please don't become discouraged - every dollar counts no matter how little!!! With your help, Mohammed and his family can realize their dreams of reaching safety and rebuilding their lives starting with finishing Mohammed's education. Please donate and share widely!!!
