There is one thing that surprises me whenever I think of Grimmer and Lunge. Both share the same problem of a lack of humanity (especially emotion). However, the way in which these two people are free from problems is completely opposite.
To put it simply, Grimmer should be remembered, but Lunge should be forgotten. I believe that true growth for Lunge starts with stopping the compulsive hoarding of data.
If Grimmer had survived, he would have sincerely told Lunge that he didn't have to remember so obsessively and desperately. And that would have been the first piece of advice that Lunge heard about his own way of remembering.
Grimmer would have been genuinely concerned about him and perhaps stopped his typing-obsessed fingers.
(We already know that Gillen pointed out Lunge's memory method. However, this is close to a strategic attack on Lunge's blind spots.)
I just finished watching the anime Pluto, and here's my personal rating: quite disappointing - 6.8/10.
I've tweeted about the same thing before, but I'm posting it again because it's so important to me.
Lunge's attitude of doubting Tenma's innocence to the end is an element that reveals his arrogance, but it is also a device that shows his fragility. He is like a very meticulous machine and will quickly break down when faced with the slightest deviation from the norms and specifications he can handle and accept. To him, the voices around him claiming Tenma's innocence must have sounded like meaningless cries based on typical feelings and sentimentalism.
Emotions are difficult and uncomfortable for him to deal with. He lacks logic and becomes more callous and stubborn in the face of what can be perceived as emotional assertions. But, at least to me, that attitude seems to be his defense mechanism. That is his weakness. He evades the underdeveloped psychological side of himself in a subtle, but more than that, terribly clumsy way.
In a sense, I sympathize with Lunge. Oh, he doesn't want to show his emotions or his soft side to anyone, but his actions prove that he's just a weak human being. What a poor detective. That's why I love you.
Ruminating on how the "computer" in Inspector Lunge's brain works and its existence in personal social situations, like him typing in private moments he wants to remember. In particular, I wonder whether or not he stores visual information in this "computer", because by the way he types the information into his head I would assume that no, he can't "store" complete visual information that way. Thinking about how maybe his visual memory pales in comparison to the computer-like memory he has for written facts. Maybe it's hard for him to remember what his family looked like back when they were all together, happier, and younger, or him trying and failing to memorize the colours of a sunset. Is he good at remembering faces? I imagine him sometime after Ruhenheim trying to visualize Grimmer's face and failing to make a coherent picture in his head. He tries to draw a picture, but he can't get it quite right that way, either.
I'm so much love your artworks for "Monster"! They are so smooth, so high quality, like a poster to every episode! If I had a permission I would like to print all this works and hang posters around the house, they really look so wonderful!
I never expected to be asked this, but it makes me really happy. If the posters I made can make your home look better, I couldn’t ask for more. Feel free to use my poster, just show me a picture of how you decorated with it later! :)
This video is a self-parody of the one linked here.
