Hey I know I said this blog was about dragon quest but I need to talk about Caroline and Pierre from Stardew Valley because their marriage is the most interesting part of the game for me personally
I really don’t think that it’s a superficial “ball and chain” type of relationship where Caroline is a cheating whore and Pierre is just some callous asshole who doesn’t give a shit ab his wife. I’m not saying those relationships don’t exist, I’m saying that I don’t think it’s the case for these two.
I think that Caroline used to be very wild when she was younger. She was outgoing, flirty, always smelled like fresh tea and lemongrass and summer air. A little salty too, with how much time she spent at the beach. I think she lived to have fun, and made a few too many hasty decisions.
When Pierre moved to the valley he was a handsome man with a strong jaw and blue eyes filled with ambition. He had a very specific idea of where he wanted his life to go. When he and Caroline met, they thought it could just be a fun summer.
Pierre didn’t expect to fall as hard as he did, and Caroline didn’t expect there to be consequences for her actions. I think she really didn’t know who Abigail belonged to. They married quickly, and what went wrong was the fact that their marriage was built on an idea of obligation. Pierre needed to take accountability for who he thought was his child, Caroline wanted to marry a man she knew could support himself and her.
Both of them knew this. Maybe they loved each other a little, but not as wholly as they could. Pierre tried so hard to make Caroline happy with what she had, with what she could give him, but it really wasn’t anything he could do. And of course this made him bitter. I think Caroline was remorseful that she married a man for the insurance, and she was afraid that Abigail would turn out the same as she did, and that’s why she holds Abigail to such rigid expectations. Caroline retreated further into herself, and Pierre retreated further into his business.
Their marriage was one of convenience and complacency. I think it’s a mundane tragedy.
In conclusion I have a fix it fic that involves the farmer.
Speculating DQXI party’s last names and putting it under “read more” bc this post definitely cites lore that constitutes spoilers
Erik most likely does not have a last name since he was an orphan taken in by Vikings. I don’t think they would’ve given him one. Didn’t serve any purpose.
I actually think that Veronica and Serena’s last name is Fidelī, or “of Fidelus” (the second declension genitive, if we conjugate Fidelus as if it were a Latin word)
Sylvando’s real name, canonically (imo) is Norberto Rodrigo
We know Jade’s last name is Carnelian.
So like, Rab is weird. Bc consider. “King Carnelian.” “Lord Robert.” Robert might be his last name. Therefore, the Luminary’s surname might also be Robert. Though, they also might have a completely different surname having been adopted and raised by Chalky.
Hendrik, I genuinely have no clue. You could slap any last name on that man and it would probably work.
I think Jasper’s last name is Chalcedony or Agate or smth else rock themed
Once I "made" a custom emoji for my mum by crudely drawing a hijab on it and now whenever she wants me to buy a coffee for her I get a text like this
hello. you should check out my mods for DRAGON QUEST® XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition. goodbye
This was an ask from @valeriewarrior137 but I accidentally posted it without fully answering and then deleted it 😭
Erik
He can guesstimate most measurements just by eyeballing them. Height, weight, distance, circumference. When you’re a thief, you’ve gotta know if your loot can follow you through the escape route.
Veronica
She’s an excellent climber, even with her shorter stature. She can scale trees, ledges, and even hop fences like nobody’s business.
Serena
She’s got a knack for learning new languages very quickly, and it helps out with how much traveling the party does. Her musical talents give her the ear for it!
Sylvando
With a stage presence like his? How could there ever be a talent the Great Sylvando hasn’t— it’s hunting. His father taught him. He can hit a target with a crooked crossbow from further away than any man should be able to.
Jade
She can forge someone’s signature to the point where it’s indiscernible. She’s never used this talent, despite how much Erik tries to convince her to
Rab
He can finish a sewing job with a good amount of competency! He taught himself how to when his daughter’s teddy bear ripped, and he was always there to help Jade out if she needed something hemmed!
Hendrik
He really enjoys gardening. He doesn’t get many opportunities to do it, but he’s read several books about botany, foraging, etc. and would love to keep his own plants one day
Jasper
He’s a very good singer! And he’s horribly embarrassed about it, surprising no one. It’s nothing professional, but it helps lift his mood when he’s feeling down
bodies should have crash logs. why the fuck did that just happen.
Not to sound like a fuckin hippie but please for the love of god start noticing and appreciating the natural world around you. You don’t have to go hike the entire Appalachian trail or anything and I get that not everyone has access to the outdoors for various reasons, but just fucking … look around you when you’re outside. Notice the sky and the sun and the birds and creatures. Start caring about them. I’m begging you.
Thinking again on some Dave Lore: In the book "Dave: A Legend", he's mentioned as becoming a "pink-masked privateer". A privateer was sponsored by the state, so to speak - which got me wondering.
A privateer was often issued commissions, or letters of marque, allowing them to attack other ships without fear of it being labelled as piracy, and being allowed to claim those ships as prizes under law. Dave only became a privateer after his beloved King fell - which I've always assumed to have been King Arnout of Zwaardsrust, the last King. After Arnout fell, so too did Zwaardsrust, leaving Dave without a home kingdom.
Twenty years or so later he met Sylv - a noble by birth - and together they painted all the masts and sails in the inland sea pink. Ergo, Sylv, as Dave's newfound sovereign, commissioned Dave and allowed him to go after those ships without fear of reprisal - and even helped him in that task, as the book mentions.
It is so funny to me that my headcanons about how well the DQXI characters could drive is the one that’s gotten so much visibility
