Dungeon Meshi has several worldbuilding details and extra comics in different publications and I think they get pretty hard to keep track of so I wanted to make a guide and explain what is what for people that maybe want to look into it themselves!
The Main Information sources are:
Daydream Hour 2-5: Sketch compilations and extra comics by Ryoko Kui with commentary, which can be found on EH Scans blog translated, and also in mangadex in between the manga chapters (The first daydream hour isn't dungeon meshi related)
The Complete Daydream Hour: Or more specifically "Ryoko Kui Doodle Book Daydream Hour" Released in january 2024 it still hasn't been fully translated into english. This version compiles extras and sketches from daydream hour 1-5 along with new content. Some of the exclusive comics have been translated and can be found on reddit and bato.to but the full thing is yet to be translated.
Delicious in Dungeon World Guide: The Adventurer's Bible (2021): A guide by Ryoko Kui that compiles information about the characters, monsters and the world. An official english version is available. It was released in february 2021 and has information pertinent for up to chapter 71 from the manga. It contains extra comics for all the main characters and for all the human/demi human races. The extras that talk about side character's backstories are from this book and the characters section has been translated by EH Scans (Also on mangadex)
Delicious in Dungeon World Guide: Adventurer's Bible Complete Edition (2024): Released in february 2024 and still untranslated, this version of the Adventurer's Bible has information updated for the end of the manga, there's even more extras and lots of comics about post-canon. Some of them are being translated and posted into reddit but I haven't seen them anywhere else. The raw is available on bato.to
Manga and Ryoko Kui's Blog: Some of it are from the manga itself, like Monster Tidbits and other Harta Magazine Extras (Where dungeon meshi is published) and also from the author's own personal blog. Lots of the drawings in her blog were deleted with the publishing of the complete daydream hour but you can still see what was unpublished using the wayback machine.
Blu-ray: With the release of the second bluray its clear that there will be extra content with each new one, there's "what if" extras and cover art by Ryoko Kui, you can check it the cover and info in the tag here.
I hope this helps somehow! It was pretty confusing for myself when I first started looking for more extras after finishing the manga.
The things I post here are all based on one of these and I try to put in the tags what the source is!
[SCAN] Moonbyul’s Birthday Special Exhibition: Comrade ©
So I thought this was commonly known internet navigation (but apparently it might just be those of us who have been using the internet since the 90’s who still know it). Or so it seems based on… a grumpy comment I got.
When you see an arrow like this:
It means you click it to expand out a hidden section.
It’s an accordion section/menu! It’s useful in web design to hide information that may be overwhelming under specific headers so people can only see what they need.
Here I’m using it for people who need the content warnings to be able to check, but for those who don’t need them and don’t want to be spoiled to just move right past without accidentally reading anything.
It’s still the user’s responsibility to click the arrow and read things as they need! But it is all warned. (And, yes, the all encompassing issues are already a tag on the fic, I’m just providing additonal warnings per chapter.)
Seriously, is important to know this kind of things.
YMIR…
During this quarantine, I realized how much trouble to focus I have. I can barely think. Everything makes a lot of noise and just the fact that I´m not in school difficulties my work.
I can't believe this shit
Let’s use evil for good
Hahaha... wait no!
I will try to update it when I find something worth mentioning.
Pretty much self explanatory - shows that either shove gay in your face or make it impossible to claim it isn’t gay.
Adachi and Shimamura (Adachi to Shimamura)
It’s coming later this year (October 2020 if I’m not mistaken), so you gonna have to wait for it a bit. I decided to include it anyway, cause I want more people to know about it ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
Sweet Blue Flowers (Aoi Hana)
I’m not a big fan of it (be it anime or manga), but many people liked it, so give it a shot.
Bloom Into You (Yagate Kimi Ni Naru)
(* ̄3 ̄)╭ ヽ(✿゚▽゚)ノ
Blue Drop
This thing… oh, Gods, this thing… It’s overall a good anime, but you’re not gonna like the ending.
Citrus
Don’t overthink this. Just go with the flow. Wish it had more seasons, tho, cause manga gets way better later. There’s still hope, I guess.
Flip Flappers
Amazing show, but be wary of this one episode that will scare the living hell out of you.
Fragtime
The movie came out this year, I think. Personally I liked manga better.
Destiny of the Shrine Maiden (Kannazuki no Miko)
It’s considered classic among your fans, but being honest with you I goddamn hated it. That one guy getting in the way was infuriating.
Kase-san and Morning Glories (Asagao to Kase-san)
Why suffer with Annoying Dude Getting In The Way Of OTP, when you can watch Kase-san instead? It’s everything you need from yuri anime. It’s fluffy, warm and just *chef’s kiss* (ᵔᴥᵔ)
Liz and the Blue Bird (Liz to Aoi Tori)
I love this movie. I’m in love with it’s visuals, music, story, everything. Would recommend having tissue box somewhere near.
Maria+Holic
You shouldn’t watch this unless you’re thick-skinned asshole who’s really hard to offend (like me), cause you will definitely not enjoy this. It’s this coarse satire that should be watched without doing much thinking. Has some great OP/ED songs.
Miss Kobayashi Dragon Maid (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon)
This would be awesome IF ONLY some plot points didn’t exist. You should give it a try, cause main couple has really great domestic lesbians theme going on, BUT there’re some problematic things. So just lets pretend that some things in this show never happened. Yeah.
Netsuzou Trap -NTR-
Seen the show, read manga and with every second watched and every page red I kept asking myself why the fuck am I doing this to myself. It’s like “everything wrong with yuri in anime/manga” in one title.
Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Adolescence of Utena (Shoujo Kakumei Utena: Adolescence Mokushiroku)
Will turn your brain into pudding when you try to figure out wtf is going on. And where those cars come from. And why is there a car wash… But unlike it’s predecessor (show Utena) it doesn’t fuck around and straight up gives you The Gay.
Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne (Mnemosyne: Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi)
Gore. Long episodes - 45min each. Dark. Still have to finish this, so I can’t tell you more for now.
Sakura Trick
They kiss a lot. A Lot.
Whispered Words (Sasameki Koto)
It’s fun to watch, but sadly ends right before the story really kicks in. Manga is better, but it’s still worth to watch, preferably before reading manga.
Izetta: The Last Witch (Shuumatsu no Izetta)
Very gay gals flying on huge guns.
Strawberry Panic!
It’s a classic. It’s this bunch of overly dramatic lesbians locked together in a catholic school. If you grew up on telenovelas like me, you gonna love it.
Love To-LIE-Angle (Tachibanakan Triangle)
Episodes that last about 3 min and make it nearly impossible to see anything. But it’s very ecchi. And very gay. There’s also a manga.
Yuri Kuma Arashi
Some people hate it, some people love it. I’m the latter. It’s very abstract, but I really enjoyed it. You gonna like it if you liked Utena.
YuruYuri
(╯°□°)╯TOSHINO KYOKO!!!! First 2 seasons are comedic gold, then it’s less funny since other studio has taken over, but it’s still funny show to watch when you have a bad day.
Couples/characters who are kinda vague about being gay, but there’s high chance they are (or are confirmed elsewhere).
El Cazador de la Bruja
taco, taco, taco-su oiishi taco-su iketeru taco-su a Ami-igo ta-co-su ♪~ ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ Aside from that goddamn song that will imprint itself on your brain for eternity, this show has one of the healthiest yuri couple in whole anime world.
If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die (Oshi ga Budoukan Ittekuretara Shinu)
Silly show with dramatic lesbian screaming about her love for a girl from Idol group. Because of some plot point I’m not really sure if it’s the romantic kind of love, however.
Konohana Kitan
This is one of my favorite shows out there. There’s a lot of myths and folklore stories and I, for one, love it.
Maria Watches over Us (Maria-sama ga Miteru)
Listen, this is classic. It has all that all-girls catholic school where apparently everyone is gay for their senpais. No kisses or anything (some lewd h*nd h*lding at most), but it was 2004 and some of you weren’t ever born yet. Gays had it harder back then. Still it’s borderline impossible not to see them as a very lesbian lesbians.
Mikagura School Suite (Mikagura Gakuen Kumikyoku)
This show is.. fine. It’s okay. You gonna watch it and forget about it the same day.
Ms. vampire who lives in my neighborhood (Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san)
Cute show about a school girl and vampire girl living together. it’s just fun to watch.
New Game!
This thing is borderline “will queerbait you into oblivion”, but there’re some things that I find difficult to dismiss as just platonic gals beint absolutely not in love pals. Also I wish there was some all-women game dev company, I’d sell my soul to work there.
Princess Principal
Steampunk lesbians! YEAH!
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Magical Girl: Prepare to Cry Edition. This is a must-watch, but prepare yourself for existential crisis and crying your eyeballs out. Homura is the best!
Revolutionary Girl Utena (Shoujo Kakumei Utena)
Less mindfucky than Adolescence Mokushiroku, but at the same time, they are more shy with Utena and Anthy being in love with each other. A lot of sword fighting, BADASS sword fighting.
Sabagebu!
This is so dumb that it stops being dumb and become funny instead. Not much of yuri action, but you have girls with guns, so I know at least some of you will be interested ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Saki
Mahjong Lesbians
Violet Evergarden Side Story: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll (Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jidou Shuki Ningyou)
Being able to put Violet Evergarden movie on a goddamn YURI list is like a dream. There’s no real gay couple or anything, but Violet goes to all-girls school and makes everyone question their sexuality. In the book it’s confirmed that Isabella is in love with Violet, so it’s the only reason it’s not on the “will queerbait you into oblivion list”. Nevertheless, first half is so fucking gay that I have no words to describe it. The other half is your typical “I can’t see cause I’m crying” Violet Evergarden.
Supergirl/Once Upon a Time of anime…
Amanchu!
The level of queerbait this show pulled should be illegal.
Sound! Euphonium (Hibike! Euphonium)
Do I even have to say anything?
