The ceiling is sooo high
for some reason, this is making me smile
What if time.
Hashirama’s mokuton appears as he goes through puberty. Nobody ever saw anything like this, and he has to learn to control it on his own. Tobirama is beside him every step of the way, observing, experimenting, making questions - but it’s not enough. The mokuton is too wild, to dangerous, they need a sure way to harness it.
Tobirama goes through the records in the Senju library and finds mentions of venerable hermits who mastered nature in order to become Sages: it sounds similar enough to mokuton for the two brothers to beg Butsuma to let them leave for a few months to find a Sage to train them.
In Water Country, they find Yue the Cat Hermit, a kunoichi who achieved Sage mode thanks to her cat summons.
It takes a long time to persuade her, but eventually she agrees to teach them. Neither is compatible with a summon contract, so they’re going to learn to access natural chakra the hard way. Tobirama, thanks to his chakra sensing abilities, manages to reach Sage mode first - but he’s quickly overloaded. Once he can feel nature chakra, he can’t just unfeel it: it overwhelms him, steals his mind from his body.
It messes him up, because it makes him too open: for him, Sage mode is utterly useless, because it makes him too vulnerable to fight. Thus, while Hashirama trains to master Sage mode to harness the mokuton, Tobirama learns to close himself to nature chakra - but he never managed to fully cut himself off, so he’s kind of in Sage mode all the time. The marks on his face? They’re his latent Sage mode. When he slips and reaches out to natura chakra, he gains many more marks on his face and neck.
(On top of that, when he’s overwhelmed by natura chakra, he can’t stand Hashirama’s presence. His brother shines like a sun to his senses, and it’s just too much for Tobirama.)
Bonus scene: the moment where Tobirama managed to feel nature chakra and was overloaded:
[warm warm strong bright come to me come come bright soft great great light bright light it calls calls to Tobirama, calls calls and Tobirama can’t resist it’s so great and bright and warm and he wants it wants it he feels so small small small, it would be end of all strife if only he allowed the light to take him carry him away away become one it calls calls-] A snap like the world cracking and Tobirama is gasping, finds himself on his back, staring out at the blue sky and he’s deaf deaf blind blind where has the light gone is he dead he must be dead why can’t he feel the warmth anymore where is it- The Cat Hermit kneels above Tobirama. A part of him recognizes the paper slip she’s pressing on his heart as a chakra suppressor. “Go away,” she growls and Tobirama doesn’t understand, where could he go? No no he wants to find the warmth again- “What’s wrong with him?” Hashirama wails, and Tobirama sees his brother stepping closer, but the Cat Hermit lashes out at him. “Away! You’re hurting him!” Hurt fear worry flash on Hashirama’s face. “What?” “Go away, or you’ll kill him!” the Cat Hermit snarls - and Hashirama recoils as if stricken. With a choked sound, he turns tail, disappearing in the forest. Tobirama groans, raising one hand weakly. “The light-! Bring it back!” The Cat Hermit smiles a sad smile. “No.”
you know what i need??? more myth and superstition in scifi.
give me starship captains like the sailors of old, weathered and wary of the vast beast that is deep space, who religiously keep their own personal traditions and rituals to appease her and guide their ships safely through her vast depths.
give me wide-eyed ensigns eagerly drinking in tales of great creatures of the void, space whales and other more malevolent leviathans, dismissed as tall tales by more cynical cadets who only trust the sense of their own eyes.
give me whispered accounts of ghost vessels, lost long ago in great battles across the universe, populated by a literal skeleton crew.
give me a space bermuda triangle.
give me a universe as cold and unfathomable as the ocean, and no less mysterious and forboding.
Boudica: Mordred, I have to ask- why are you so obsessed with your father?
Mordred: What's that suppose to mean?
Boudica: Well, your father clearly doesn't care for you so surely it would be better to move on. After all, you have a mother don't you?
Mordred: Yeah. what of her?
Boudica (a loving mother): I mean, surely she must care about you?
Mordred: Bwahahaha!
Boudica: Did...I make a joke?
Mordred: Yeah you must have! Who'd honestly say mothers give two shits about their kids?
Boudica: Sir Mordred!
Mordred: Wha?
Boudica: How could you say such a thing? What mother wouldn't care for their children?
Mordred: What mother would care?
Boudica: Mordred, you must be mistaken. Surely your mother cared for you at some point. Just think back. How about when she celebrated your birthday?
Mordred: Birthday? What's that?
Boudica: Well...what about when you were sick?
Mordred: She'd shove some kind of painful potion down my throat to expel the disease.
Boudica: Then, what about your training?
Mordred: She gave me a sword, threw giant animated statues at me and said 'Either kill these or die.'
Boudica: But, she must have at least cooked food for you.
Mordred: I ate nothing but shitty bread and lumpy mashed potatoes my whole childhood and my last memory of her meals was her poisoning me.
Boudica: *mouth agap* What...
Mordred: Can I go now?

Ahsoka gets pointed to Tatooine about two years after the Empire rises. Bail is vague about it, but tells her she’ll find Someone She’s Looking For if she goes. Ahsoka brings Rex because reasons. Bail intended for her to find Obi-Wan, because he’s heard about training bonds and one time Obi-Wan mentioned Ahsoka had formed a minor one with him, but he doesn’t know enough about the Force to realize she’d be drawn directly to Luke instead.
So one day, Beru and Owen just open the door, toddler in hand, to see an exhausted, distraught former Jedi a good decade their junior on the step, with an clone soldier, eyes fixed on Luke and looking like she’s about to cry.
For a particularly high level of drama, this wasn’t planned, and Bail had only told her that she could Find Allies on Tatooine if she ended up in the absolute worst possible situation (she is pretty much the only person he felt deserved to know there were allies on Tatooine at all), and what actually happens is that Ahsoka passes out like two seconds after the door opens and Rex is left holding the bag of “how the fuck do I explain the thing.”
Rex gains a bit of favor by explaining about the chip in his head after Owen demands an explanation because last he heard, the clones had turned on the Jedi on the Emperor’s orders, and Beru and Owen have enough knowledge of slavery (and Beru’s family has been freeing people for so many generations) that the story of what happened during O66 on Mandalore immediately wins Rex some points, at least enough for someone to go get Ben.
This is the point at which I admit that this was partially driven by me thinking about one of those “Cody finds/is found by Obi-Wan on Tatooine, gets de-chipped, they end up Husbands” AUs and me really wanting post-O66 Ahsoka crying on Obi-Wan while he awkwardly explains to the Lars family that this girl is Basically His Daughter
Probably while Ahsoka’s passed out in his lap.
Also I want that dramatic moment of Owen telling Obi-Wan that someone showed up “looking for Jedi” but not really explaining much, just enough for Obi-Wan to panic and jump on a speeder with Cody in full armor and with a blaster because Owen doesn’t seem worried enough for it to be imperials but what if and then he shows up and instead it’s Ahsoka, exhausted and injured and unconscious, but it’s his grandpadawan.
He freezes when he sees her, almost doesn’t even parse that Rex is there until the man starts talking, and then he backpedals, grabs Cody from outside where he’s helping Owen secure the speeder, and shoves him into the building because Brothers.
(In Owen’s defense, he had a vague idea that there were millions of clones and had no reason to assume these two in particular would know each other.)
There’s a Keldabe kiss with some tears that everyone later denies happened, and Obi-Wan just goes over to sit with Ahsoka and push some healing energy into her body until she feels well enough to wake up. Luke toddles in and basically just gets passed around between Beru and Owen and Obi-Wan. He gives Owen and Beru an abridged explanation of how they all know each other and how Jedi families work, which leads to Beru declaring that if Ahsoka was Anakin’s adopted family, then she’s family to the rest of them, too, by Tatooine standards. And since Rex is a brother to Obi-Wan’s husband–
“Your WHAT?” Rex demands.
“Husband, vod'ika, keep up.”
Anyway, everyone’s family somehow but the important part is reuniting clones and having the disaster lineage crying on each other because I have seen those screenshots where Ahsoka canonically refers to Obi-Wan as her adoptive father when talking about him to strangers post-O66 and sure that’s arguably just her reframing to fit the conversation and her audience, but also. Like. That’s Her Dad.
