M100 And Hubble’s Repair

M100 and Hubble’s Repair

When Hubble was first placed in space, a issue with it’s mirrors blurred the telescopes images. A space walk to fix the issue was a huge success, and a crystal clear image of M100 Galaxy sprung into life.

Fast forward over 25 years later, and an upgrade carried out in 2009 to add the Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3, took a further leap in quality.

M100 is 55 Million light years away and part of the Virgo super cluster of galaxies (which our Milky Way is also a member) with the massive M87 elliptical galaxy making up one of the main galaxies in that group (of recent Black Hole image fame !).

NASA Will Provide Live Coverage Of The Return Of Astronauts Robert Behnken And Douglas Hurley To Earth

NASA will provide live coverage of the return of astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley to Earth in SpaceX's Dragon "Endeavour" spacecraft. They're scheduled to leave the International Space Station at 7:34 p.m. EDT Aug. 1 and splash down at 2:42 p.m. EDT Aug. 2. The pair have been onboard our orbiting laboratory since May 31 - Do you agree with this post? 💯 ❗️Follow us    for more Space Science Facts❗️ @_space___lover_ @_space___lover_ @_space___lover_ @_space___lover_ @_space___lover_ Double tap ❤️ Share More👇 Follow us for more 🌍 -tag:-) #nasa  #galaxies #spacetravel #universes #earthplanet #nasabeyond #spacescience #futures #alieninvasion #elonmusk  #humanscale #astrogeekz #dangeroustour #himalayas #_space___lover_ #plutoretrograde #tomcruire  #physicsisfun #theoreticalphysics (at ISS) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDRK_EPnDRp/?igshid=1jbeodnlip4mx

Astronomers Usually Cannot Tell The Age Of An Individual Star. There Are Certain Stars That We Know Are

Astronomers usually cannot tell the age of an individual star. There are certain stars that we know are very young, and others that are very old, but for most stars we cannot tell. When we have a large group of stars, however, we can tell its age. This is possible because all of the stars in a cluster are presumed to have begun their life at approximately the same time. After a relatively brief time (in 'star time,' that is--we are talking thousands to millions of years here) stars reach the adult phase of their life, which we call the main sequence phase. The length of time a star spends in the main sequence phase depends on its mass. "Constructing a plot, called the HR diagram, of the stars in the cluster, scientists can determine the mass of the stars that are just ending this phase and moving on to the next phase of their life, the red giant phase. Computer models allow us to predict how old a star of that mass must be to be at that juncture of its life, and hence to estimate the age of the cluster. Recently, this procedure has come under close scrutiny because that age it gives for the oldest star clusters in our Milky Way seems to be older than the age of the universe derived from the most recent Hubble Space Telescope data." Kepler-186f (also Known By Its Kepler Object Of Interest Designation KOI-571.05) Is An Exoplanet Orbiting

Kepler-186f (also known by its Kepler object of interest designation KOI-571.05) is an exoplanet orbiting the red dwarf Kepler-186, about 582 light-years (178.5 parsecs, or nearly 5.298×1015 km) from the Earth.⠀ ⠀ It is the first planet with a radius similar to Earth's to be discovered in the habitable zone of another star. ⠀ ⠀ #kepler #kepler186f #exoplanet #universe #solarsystem#cosmos #nasa #spacex #astronomy #astrophysics #esa#cern #earth #planets #sun #star #spacetime#unlockingspacetime #spacetime https://www.instagram.com/p/CDOjQfQnG9o/?igshid=9juzm9m07km6

Habitable Moons

Habitable Moons

Recent observations of a K type star (orange dwarf slightly smaller than our Sun) have detected a Saturn like planet just outside of the Habitable zone. The star in question is 2MASS J01340514-1425090 (trips off the tongue!), 624 light years from Earth in the constellation of Cetus.

It’s thought to be one of the first near Habitable zone finds of a gas giant using the transit technique, something usually better suited for red dwarf stars and transits of a few days at most.

THe gas giants in our Solar System all have a fair number of moons, so equally such large exoplanets are likely to have their own satellites, opening the possibility of an Earth like moon circling such a gas giant, although this particular one is probably a bit close to its star.
