Alternative containers for jar spells!☄️

Alternative Containers For Jar Spells!☄️

I love jar spells just as much as the next guy! They're a great place for baby witches to start and they're helluva customisable- any size, shape, or ingredients you want. Not to mention they look cool as hell! But sometimes a jar just doesn't quite...work.

Maybe you just don't have a suitable one kicking around. Maybe you're in the broom closet, and a jar full of witchy ingredients would be too recognisably 'witchy' if it was found. Maybe you wanna carry it around with you, without ending up with broken glass in your bag. (Not a fun time).

Whatever your reasons, I got you covered!

💋Lip product containers💋

These would be discreet and perfect to carry in a purse or in your pocket! They're well suited to spell jars to ease verbal communication, for 'sweet talking' or persausiveness, or to help with clamming up in front of crowds and the like! Lip gloss or lipstick would also suit a glamour nicely.

💄 Chapstick in particular is an easy one. Just pull out the part that had the product on it, et voila! You might want to take the screw part out too, or you could just work around it.

💄 Once a lipsticks run out, you can pretty much do the same thing as you would with a Chapstick!

💄 The lip balm that comes in little pots is even easier to work with! Just wash it out once it's empty and fill it up with your ingredients.

📝Stationery📝

These are among my favourite diy containers! They're perfect for spell jars to boost your creativity or to prevent artblock, as well as being good for manifestation. (Drawing is kinda the same as manifesting something, right?)

✏️ Container sharpeners are an obvious choice! Just take off the lid, pop the ingredients in, and gum up the sharp part with something so nothing falls out. Candlewax would be a good choice, especially if you wanna seal it with a candle like most jars.

✏️ Spent markers and highlighters are a little fiddly, but fun! You can take the nib parts with ink in them out of the end(s), then pull the 'guts' of it out with tweezers. Save the nibs, but you dont need to keep the inside part around. Then you can fill the empty casing up with your ingredients, and pop the end and nib back on to make it just look like an ordinary pen again!

✏️ The empty pots from paint testers are another good one to use, and ballpoint pens are easy to get a hold of and hollow out!

✏️ The color of the pen/marker/paint could be matched to your intent, too!

📷Photo film containers📷

Okay, so this one is probably only practical if you're into photography. But if you use a camera with film and have a few of em laying around, they make cute spell jars! These are useful for creativity and manifestation, again, but would also suit spell jars for aiding with memory, or for spells to make something stick around. Or you could make one for helping all your pictures turn out well!

📸 Just pop the ingredients in the container, no extra steps needed! I'm personally a fan of drawing a sigil on the lid or on the side.

💅Makeup containers💅

I know I already covered lip products, but all sorts of makeup containers would make good spell jars once they're used up! Mascara containers, concealer sticks, and nail polish bottles are among the most useful in my opinion, but you could really use anything. They're particularly suited to glamours and the like.

🖌️ For any containers that have an applicator/brush in them, like mascara or nail polish, you might wanna consider taking it to get some more room.

🖌️ It gives you a good excuse to keep that empty container with a really cute pattern on it! You could match the colors or types of the makeup to your intent.

🖌️ All of them are useful for glamours, but you can get more specific for other intents! You could use mascara for a spell designed to help you 'see', like ones that aid in finding things or being perceptive, for example.

🍬Sweet containers🍬

These are particularly suited for spell jars to 'sweeten' something! The only example that comes to mind while I'm writing this is tic-tacs, but anything that comes in a relatively sturdy container like a tub or box would be good!

🍭 Just like matching colors to intent, you could match flavors! Mint could be good for cleansing or awakeness, cinnamon for strength or wealth, etc.

🚿Hygiene products🚿

These would be great for health, vitality, or cleansing spell jars! Empty hand sanitizer bottles or soap containers would work great for this.

💧This one's a little specific, but I've seen little gumball machine type things in public bathrooms that dispense little chewable...toothbrush things? They look like this-

Alternative Containers For Jar Spells!☄️

And the containers from them would be great for these!

⭐Lockets⭐

Okay, so maybe these are veering a little out of spell jar territory. But lockets are amazing for any sort of spell that needs a container! They can be for any intent, they're super discreet, and you don't even need to carry them or worry so much about losing them.

💍 Most lockets are pretty small, so you obviously cant fit *loads* in there. But if you have some tiny crystal chips, they work great! Those, along with tiny amounts of dried herbs and single petals from dried flowers, all work great for little locket spell jars.

💍 Lockets normally have a place to put a photo in, and you can use that for a sigil to suit your intent! Or if you work with any dieties or other entities, you could put an image of them in there, if they're involved in your spellwork!

💍 Any other jewellery with some kind of compartment would work too. I've seen rings which are basically tiny little lockets, which would also work great! You could even wear them on certain fingers to suit different intents. (I remember reading somewhere about each finger having different associations, but I cant find it. I remember the pinky finger being Mercury, though...?)

💚Medicine containers💚

These would be great spell jar containers for health and vitality. Make sure you wont confuse these for your actual medicine! I know it'd be pretty hard to mix up the contents of a spell jar with your allergy meds, but still. 😅

💊 You could try matching a medications purpose to an intent, too. For example, a spell jar to help ease depression in a bottle that previously had depression medication in it, or a spell to keep away unpleasant things in a painkiller bottle.

💊 While we're on the topic- remember to take your meds today if you haven't! And always remember that magic is not a substitute for going to the doctor if you need it.

All of these have their own associations to me, but theres nothing stopping you from using them for any intent- if you wanna make a spell for good health in a camera film canister, noones stopping you. I'm sure theres a million other containers I'm forgetting about, but these are the ones I personally find the most interesting or useful. I hope this has been of help!

Good luck and godspeed to you all! 💛

My favorite simple wards to guard the home

Hanging rosemary above the doorstep, and/or above doors of the house for protection.

Sprinkling a line of dried red pepper on a windowsill, to counter a curse.

Placing a mix of dried & ground eggshells and black pepper in every corner of a room to keep out unwanted spirits.

Placing a decoration representing a witch in the kitchen, to keep away illness and to favor health.

Crafting an effigie (no matter how crude!) and make it into the guardian of your home by charging it with your intent of protection and placing it near the front door.

Crafting small witch ladders to hang around the house.

A Change of Heart

aka "face the consequences of your actions until you have a change of heart." Similar to A Gentle Curse, but focused more on the "karma" and change aspect.

A Change Of Heart

you'll need:

a jar (any size, any kind. i used a spaghetti sauce jar)

a white candle (for cleansing the jar)

white table salt: purifying

chili powder: fast results

hot sauce: repelling the negativity from the situation

coffee: gives energy to the spell, grounds it in reality

your written intentions

a taglock of the person you wish to affect

garlic: protecting you from any negative outcomes

sun water: growth, changing outcomes, healing

cleanse the jar with the candle's smoke. add ingredients in order, while visualizing your target and intent. seal the jar, and shake it as hard as you can. whenever you have a toxic encounter with the person, shake the jar asap to recharge the spell.

if spell does not succeed, consider therapy. /lh

“Cut It Out, Cut Them Off”

I could’ve swore I had seen a spell similar to this on Tumblr somewhere, but seeing as I can’t find it… I guess it’s safe for me to post my own version.

Purpose:

This spell is to help you sever any ties with a person that you no longer want in your life. It can also be used to assist in removing any negative habits or intrusive thoughts.

It requires simple supplies, things you could find at the dollar store, so it isn’t hard to perform in that sense… but it does ask you to draw and reflect on negative things in your life. If there are some things you simply cannot face or think about in regards to anything you wish to be free of, this spell may not be the best for you.

Ingredients:

a length of ribbon, preferably white, long enough to wrap around an ankle or wrist

a thin tipped marker, pen, or Sharpie, preferably in black

a pair of scissors

a fire-proof container and matches (optional)

Method:

Gather your supplies. Prep for spellwork in the way you normally do (cleanse your space, cast a circle, invoke any deities / spirits, light candles or incense, play mood-setting music, etc.).

On your ribbon, write the name of the person that you want to cut away, or the habit / thought you wish to remove. When you are done, hold the ribbon in your hands, and think of what you wrote, how it makes you feel, all the negativity it brings into your life. It may be painful, but pull up as much as you can - bring every last bit to the surface if possible. Take as much time as you need to do so.

After you have brought forward everything you can / can think of, push it all into the ribbon and the words you wrote upon it - every last thought and feeling you have about what you are trying to rid yourself of. The aim is to get all of the negativity outside of you and into the ribbon.

When you feel you have done that, or as much as you can, tie the ribbon around your wrist or ankle. As quickly as you can, snip it off your body and let it fall. It is gone.

Take the ribbon with your writing and get rid of it. (If you can, burn it, though this is optional.) Cut it up into smaller pieces, throw it out, bury it someplace you rarely go, let it go in the wind or water, as long as you completely rid yourself of it.

After the ribbon is gone, take some time to meditate on how you feel now that you are free of that person / habit / thought. Feel how light your shoulders are now, how bright your spirit. Reflect on how great your life will be now that what troubled you is gone for good.

Do your best not to think of the spell, or what you got rid of, again.

Optional: go have a shower to be sure to cleanse yourself of any of the negativity from the ribbon on your skin. Also, have a snack, drink some water, relax - you just purged yourself of some pretty heavy stuff, you deserve a break.

Notes:

Only write one thing on the ribbon - one person, one habit, one thought. If you have more than one thing you wish to be rid of, do this spell multiple times. Just be careful not to drain yourself from expending too much energy.

This spell may best be paired with a self-love spell; you should bring in some positive to fill up the space and make you feel better after dealing with all the negative thoughts and feelings.

Cleansing Techniques for Low Spoon Days

I’m really glad this was requested because it’s an issue a lot of people face and one I’ve run into a lot during my studies. I totally understand why people say that everything should be clean and organized for a good, thorough cleanse, but that just isn’t realistic or possible for everyone. Some days you can do it, other days it feels like you’re staring down Mount Everest.

So I’m gonna share some of the cleansing methods I use that help on low spoon days.

Music - There’s no catch-all for this one. Everyone will have a different type of music that does the trick, and that genre will change depending on what you need in that moment. Sometimes I blast Icon for Hire, other times I’ll go with Cirque Du Soleil or Kevin Kern. It doesn’t matter what you listen to so long as it makes your space and you feel better.

Open Up a Window - I’m not a huge nature witch, but I’ve found it very helpful to have fresh air blowing into my home, especially when there’s a lot of negative crap circling around me. Sometimes on bad depression days I’ll just stand in front of the window and let the air wash over me. I combine this one a lot with the first method.

Scented Candles 1 - If you have the ability to light candles choose a scent that makes you feel good and light ‘em up. Sit close to a lit candle for added bonus of aiding in mental cleansing.

Scented Candles 2 - This is gonna sound weird, mostly because it is. If you have floor/rug space enough to vacuum, take a scented candle that you like, carve it so that you’re left with a bunch of shavings, and sprinkle them all over your rug/floor. Depending on your preferences you may want to vacuum them up after an hour or two. But if you want to leave them, less work for you and easier on the spoons. You can sprinkle them under rugs or welcome mats for the same effect and no one will know they’re there. I’ve done this a few times and as weird as it seems, I’ve found it very helpful.

Tea - If you’re not too worried about potentially attracting little bug friends, you can do the fourth method with tea leaves instead of candle shavings. Some people might find this more effective because of the cleansing properties of many herbal teas.

Air Fresheners - Find an air freshener that really leaves your space smelling fresh and clean. Inscribe the bottom or side of the container with a sigil designed for cleansing.

Boil Water - I do this a lot when my house is too dry, so why not when it needs a cleanse, too? You can add things to the water to aid in cleansing. I usually do crisp apples, orange peels, cinnamon, anything that I personally associate with cleansing. Find out what works for you, load it up, and leave the sucker there to boil.

Salt - I can already imagine the eye rolls, but it helps. I keep a bottle of sea salt next to my bed so when I’m just fed up with my environment and feel like I need something fast to push away heavy, negative shit  I’ll grab a handful and just throw it. It also feels good to throw stuff across my room *shrug*

That’s all I’ve got for the moment, but I’m sure there are eight million other methods to cleansing that are easier on the spoons than a full house cleaning session. If anyone has methods of their own to add to this, please do! I’ll probably reblog as I see them :)
