i feel it in my bones, i’m on F I R E
FUCK
So a quick disclaimer: Yes, I am very aware that this is most likely not canon, or at least not what the writers intended on being canon, nor am I saying that this is 100% canon and should be considered as such. This is just a fan theory/analysis I came up with for my own enjoyment and wanted to share with others, as I like coming up with theories/analysis posts and reworking canons to make enhanced stories and character development in my perspective. I firmly believe that the idea of making theories isn’t supposed to be a shouting contest to see which opinion is the most loud and correct, but should be something to share with others and find acceptance and understanding in different interpretations, even if you don’t agree with them.
I want the disclaimer here to be taken extra-seriously as I know for a fact that this topic within itself is one hell of a problem when it comes to Kokichi’s character. This incident and series of events is what makes or breaks Kokichi’s character for a lot of people. People who see Kokichi’s character as nothing but up to no good be warned; this post is not for you.
However, the said can be said for those who think Kokichi can do no wrong. I may call Kokichi a “precious cinnamon roll” but in reality, the scale of his sins during Chapter 4 is impossible to ignore, especially when it’s such a huge deal that it carries over into the rest of the story of the game. There’s a lot of divide over whether or not Kokichi is a pure saint or pure evil, when in actuality, human beings are far more complicated than black or white, good or evil, and that’s sort of the beauty hidden within this case. Morality is crushed to the ground and stomped on until it’s borderline unrecognizable.
So without further adieu, let’s begin the analysis, and talk about Kokichi’s fall from grace and into a despair so miserable that it ripped him apart.
WARNING, THIS POST IS VERY LONG. Only stop to read it when you have a good amount of time to do so.

Bakugou: horrible bully, period. Monoma: likes to provoke innocent inter class rivalry, completely normal to want to compete w/ students of the other class. And hasn't genuinely been a bully to literally anyone
OH BUDDY YOU UNLOCKED PANDORA’S BOX WITH THIS ONE
THIS IS GONNA BE A LOT [heavy antibaku]
the first argument you see about class b being lesser than class a is when someone brings up monoma, particularly how he taunts and berates class a in eccentric ways. at this point, the sports festival arc when monoma points out how bakugou is “famous" for getting captured by a villain in middle school.
these taunts and jests are nothing compared to how bakugou treats everyone of class a. yes, that includes kirishima.
bakugou is known for his abrasive and demeaning behavior. not just by class 1a, but by the entire school as he makes an infamous reputation for himself (and for class 1a) just before the sports festival. he acts as if he is superior over everyone, including his classmates and even some teachers.
even with kirishima, who bakugou doesn't even call him his own name for a long time and still doesn’t do that most of the time.
monoma speaks as if it is the entirety of class b that is better than class a. monoma speaks highly of his fellow class b students. he lifts them up, points out their strengths, cheers them on, etc. monoma doesn't lord over other classes either as seen when he interacts with shinsou, just class a after bakugou makes it apparent he believes he is better than everyone else in the school.
even when monoma fails the mid term exams, he still finds it in his own dramatic ways to uplift class b even though he is the one who failed out of the whole class. monoma doesn’t value just himself alone above all else like bakugou does.
while monoma attempts to bring down class a as much as he can with taunts and words, he never turns to physical action unless allowed (sports festival, training camp, class vs class session, etc.).
bakugou turns to physical violence on top of his harsh words, especially against his own classmates. it's not an “honor" for bakugou to go full out on someone in a fight, he does that with everyone at anytime he wants to. see what he did to kaminari before they enter heights alliance for the first time.
monoma treats class b with praise and respect and not constant demeaning words, actions, names.
on the topic of comparing bakugou to monoma, monoma isn't also abhorrently ableist and abusive towards his peers for repetitive years just because he thinks he is superior. because monoma doesn't think that. monoma treats others, even those in lower classes, with more respect than bakugou has in his entire body.
monoma is better than bakugou by leagues indescribable to those unwilling to listen. if you truly think bakugou is better because he’s in class a and “more powerful”, then you’re not willing to listen to anything beyond physical/quirk stats.
This is fuxking hilarious. I love it so much. I'm gay- like its self-explanatory gdkddkyykdxykxyo
i drew @bloodycarnations POST because i found it hilarious (thanks for letting me!)

Note: I am not a health/psychology professional by any means; this is simply a list I've put together from my own understanding and experiences on the topic, based upon various readings/research I found online. I hope it may be helpful/informative to read regardless, feel free to add on or correct this!
Maladaptive Daydreaming:
Excessive daydreaming; becoming absorbed in and fixated on daydream events, scenes, characters, or worlds.
Used as a form of escapism, often to avoid dealing with real-life situations (traumatic, unpleasant, or otherwise).
More interested and/or focused on the daydream/inner world than the real world, or on daydream relationships rather than real-life ones.
Difficulty or inability to stop daydreaming, even when real-life tasks need to be done.
An excessive/large amount of time is spent daydreaming, instead of being fully present in real-life events.
A desire to be like the idealized, daydream version of themself or their characters (/feeling inadequate with self in reality).
May feel a loss of control over daydreams, or when/where daydreaming occurs.
Some describe maladaptive daydreaming as an "addiction to daydreaming".
Many feel embarrassed or ashamed of (the extent of) their daydreaming.
Some individuals experience maladaptive daydreaming as a form of dissociation.
Often occurs in individuals with ADHD, depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and those who have experienced significant stress, abuse, and/or trauma.
Though the daydreams themselves may be enjoyable/pleasant/comforting, the lack of control and difficulty focusing on reality causes distress to the daydreamer.
If this daydreaming causes significant impairment in daily life and regular distress to the individual, they may have Maladaptive Daydreaming Disorder (MaDD).
Immersive Daydreaming:
Simillar to maladaptive daydreaming, but instead, is a more positive way of coping.
The individual is present in real-life relationships, and in their own plans for the future.
Able to stop daydreaming when real-life tasks need to be attended to. Has a solid sense of control over their daydreaming.
Uses daydreaming as a healthy coping mechanism for dealing with stress/trauma/illness/conflict etc, rather than using it to avoid these situations.
BOTH Maladaptive and Immersive Daydreamers (May) Experience:
Very vivid, often extensively detailed daydreams. (Can be visual, auditory, or a mixture of sensory events.)
Feeling the emotions or sensations that are happening in the daydream through the body, as if they were really happening.
Strong attachments or connections to daydream characters (often called "paras").
Presence of an inner world(s)/universe(s), where daydream events take place ("paracosm", "dreamverse").
A sense of "autonomy" regarding character interaction, and/or being "influenced" by their characters.
Repetitive physical activity while daydreaming (pacing, tapping, rocking, etc.)
Speaking daydream dialogue aloud, and/or physically emoting facial expressions while daydreaming.
Real life events triggering daydreams (music, and other media are common daydream triggers.)
"You're so creative!", "You've got an overactive imagination."
* Someone can experience both Maladaptive and Immersive Daydreaming within their lifetime/during different times in their lives!
Immersive daydreaming may become maladaptive if it starts getting out of hand (perhaps after a stressful/traumatic event, or the onset of another disorder). Maladaptive daydreaming can be turned into immersive daydreaming (to cope, or to de-stress), with the help of therapy.
