Yo Biden just announced an infrastructure devolopment/clean energy/environmental justice plan and it's honesty pretty fucking amazing and much more ambitious than I ever would have expected from him, goddamn. He's trying to Eisenhower/New Deal our way out of the economic collapse.
Some notable points addressed by this plan:
Expanding American railway systems
Fixing the crumbling roads, bridges, dams, etc. that haven't been kept up
Capping abandoned oil wells
Undoing Trump's financial bailout policies for unclean energy companies
Reinvesting in American-made automotive companies
Getting America to 100% clean energy by 2035
Fixing air, water, and ground pollution issues that disproportionately affect poc
Getting justice for victims of environmental racism
Reinstating a bunch of environmental and medical jobs Trump had cut
Getting the US back on the Paris Agreement/Climate Accord
716 billion dollars. Seven hundred sixteen billion U.S. dollars.
One billion is equal to a thousand millions. This is seven hundred sixteen billion. This is an insane amount of money.
Think of the millions of human beings on this planet who don’t have homes, who don’t have jobs, who wonder whether they’re going to be able to afford to eat tomorrow. Then think about the seven hundred sixteen billion dollars that we spent on the military. Just in 2019.

This ^ source says it was 732 billion dollars from October 2018 to September 2019. I’m sure you could find different sources listing 705 billion, or 720 billion. The exact number does not matter. The fact is that there are people dying of hunger while this unfathomable amount of money goes to the military.

This ^ source isn’t related to the military budget or other government spending, but I found it to be useful in helping to understand exactly how much a billion is. We could help so many people with 716 billion dollars.

Hi, @wokeurajoke-- that’s an interesting contribution to a post that was originally about schools reopening, although I’m sure you have your reasons. Your claim is correct on two points:
(1) You are correct in stating Democratic districts (not states) have higher death counts due to COVID-19. However, the large majority of these deaths (nearly a quarter of all COVID-related deaths in the US) occurred in just 12 Democratic congressional districts, all located in New York City. One can see how districts in NYC, a densely populated urban area, would have a higher death count than more rural districts.
In addition, while the initial surge of deaths due to COVID-19 was tragically large in Democratic congressional districts, and the death count is still larger in those urban districts than in Republican districts, the decline of deaths in Democratic congressional districts has “outpaced the national average” while Republican districts have seen significantly less decline, according to a Pew Research Center study published near the end of May.

Of course, any number of deaths is horrifying and tragic.
(2) You are absolutely correct in asserting that science is your friend. Wear a mask, keep social distancing, and most of all, stay safe!
reminder to expect massive fraud from the trump admin this election. letting inertia keep you from voting is the first step to preventing the huge turnout we need. the government is going to do everything in their considerable power to prevent your vote from counting.
tell them to get fucked.
