We have seen her start to decent into grief and madness. She just wants everything to stop. She wants to save who she can and run. You saw her hesitate. You saw her cry. She didn’t want to agree but she had to in order to save Helaena. To save herself. She made a mistake and is trying to reconcile the best she can. This is her only play other than abandoning her entire family and running off. Y’all are all for complex characters until you don’t like the complexities.

Alicent didn’t choose Rhaenyra over her kids

She chose:

- herself, her daughter,peace, and yes, Rhaenrya

Over:

-her son who tried to kill his brother, tried to send his sister to war, and started the war by killing a child

-her other son who she probably assumes is living a hell of an existence and may die soon anyway

going insane over alicent hightower. my girl. my darling. my little meow meow. the most repressed woman in westeros. the most homophobic lesbian to ever live. she’s so tragic and painful it makes me want to scream just thinking about her. what has she done but what was expected of her?

maybe this is gonna sound really stupid but imo, the reason nat and maya love ronance so much is at least partly because they are very good actresses. cause i've heard many actors say that when you're really getting into it it's like the character gets a will of their own, and right now they basically have to go against their characters' wills. because even if it wasn't the writers' intention, everything falls into place perfectly with them. they have accidentally made two characters that are perfect for each other, and in order for them to feel alive this has to be acted on. because when real people are that good for one another they start gravitating towards each other, right? i mean duh that's how people get in relationships. and of course actors want their characters to feel as alive as possible. and this is sounding borderline insane maybe but it's like the actual characters have a pull towards each other that nat and maya have to resist in favour of less genuine relationships because the script tells them to. like they have to play OOC basically.
