No because literally the only times the word gay was used was when Troy was bullying Will and the only time the word queer was used was when Joyce was talking about Lonnie calling Will slurs đ why r the Duffers actually homophobic towards their own characters I canât belive I had so much faith in them for so long omg I feel like Iâm coming out to one of my homophobic friends all over again đ
can we just discuss how the words gay and lesbian have never been said in stranger things, without a negative context? like not even robin, a confirmed gay character had said it. its not a fucking dirty word
So. Um. I just found out that there are Daemon stans editing Blood and Cheese and saying that theyâre excited to âsee the Greens get what they deserve.â And I justâŚ. đ
What the actual fuck is wrong with you guys?
I knew yâall were⌠unique in a bad way. But.
You really have no qualms about going on the internet and saying that youâre EXCITED to watch a literal toddler get murdered in front of his mother and young siblings?????? And you think that the toddler and his family deserves that???? And you worship the man who endorsed this murder and act like itâs some great war strategy or honorable act of vengeance? đ¤¨
But Iâm still in love with Max and Robin and Nancy and El and Steve still gives me bad comphet đĽ˛
Idk if this is real or Iâm just going crazy from sleep deprivation, but am I the only one that thought in the most two recent episodes Rhaenyra and Alicent were being paralleled in their internalized misogyny? (Not a hate post, I love both of them and I think itâs impossible NOT to have internalized misogyny in that setting. Just talking about something I noticed.)
Like in episode two we see Alicent having Helaena do the whole political funeral thing, and itâs so obvious that before, during, and after it, Alicent sees herself in Helaena. The whole thing is like Alicent reliving her earliest days as Queen all over again where not only was she also just a political pawn for the men in her life, but also where her biggest fear started. This fear being something happening to the kids she was forced to have. While the political pawn thing is majorly important too to the generational misogyny discussion, I think the more major relation that registers within Alicentâs brain is the fear of her children dying, and her consciously forcing Helaena to suffer through an extended version of that pain, and it is what will be relevant later in my post. Keep that in mind.
Similarly, in episode three, we see Rhaenyra narrowing Rhaena down to nothing more than an idea of motherhood. Rhaenyra basically tells Rhaena that her main purpose in the war is to take care of her children, even though Rhaena is less than enthusiastic about it. Even before I made the distinction that I make in this post, this whole scene struck out as odd to me, because my first thought was âteenage Rhaenyra would have hated to be told this,â yet Rhaenyra didnât seem to care about Rhaenaâs feelings at all. And then I realized that was the point. Sure, Rhaenyraâs fear of motherhood surrounded around childbirth mainly, but still, her greatest fear had been motherhood for most of her life, specifically being forced to mother children she didnât want, and yet she forced it onto Rhaena without a second thought.
So. Alicentâs greatest fear, suffering the loss of a child, befell Helaena, and instead of comforting her in her time of need, Alicent furthered her daughterâs pain. Rhaenyraâs greatest fear, being forced into motherhood, was easy for her to force onto another young girl. Itâs disturbing, and shocking, and upsetting, but itâs such a good decision for their characters. It shows how easily women can forget their girlhood fears when they come into more power, contributing to the misogyny around them. But thatâs not all. Because then I realized something else.
Despite the idea haunting her for almost her entire life, Alicent never had to suffer the loss of a child. But Rhaenyra did.
And in the end, Rhaenyra did get to choose who the father of her children was, and when she had them. But Alicent didnât.
They lived each otherâs worst fears. It adds another layer of tragedy to them, because it would have been so easy for them to understand each other, their fears and grievances matching perfectly, but they never really got the chance because of how they viewed the other as having caused their issues in the first place. And even later, they get another chance to understand both themselves and each other through their daughters, but it makes no difference.
None of them will ever win, because they donât help each other. Everyone complaining that âso-and-soâ is better than âthis characterâ because âso-and-soâ is a true feminist and âthis character isnâtâ doesnât understand the point of the show.
The point is that they wonât help their mothers, they wonât help their best friends, and they wonât help their daughters. If you think any of the men in House Of The Dragon are an ideal image of feminismâŚ. I donât even know how youâre on my page in the first place. And all the women in the show are only looking out for their own best interests. Which is totally fair for the time period theyre in, and I would probably do the same. But it all goes to show that they couldâve been so much stronger if they all stood together.
every time i see a female character garner lots of hate she immediately becomes my favourite and i take my role as her defence attorney
And also the way Barbie and Ken are role playing heterosexuality without any inherent sexuality of their own, without any understanding of what it means, or even any genitals at all! Just pretty-girl + handsome-guy = obviously a couple. And the way it fucks them both up! Because theyâre both stereotypes, neither of them is a specialist version, no brain surgery or pilots license or Nobel prize for either of them. Theyâre just assigned the roles of Every Man and Every Woman. And Ken ends up doing Way Too Much because heâs hanging his entire self-worth on being important to Barbie. And Barbie just isnât interested in him, she was assigned a boyfriend she didnât ask for and doesnât want and doesnât know what to do with, just because thatâs what society expects of men and women, that they will necessarily couple up and fall in love because⌠thatâs what they do. Regardless of any personal quality of either party.
Itâs about heteronormativity and amatonormativity and the unrealistic expectations society sets boys and girls up for from infancy. Barbie and Ken are every pair of toddlers sharing a sandbox while the adults around them call them each otherâs little âboyfriendâ or âgirlfriendâ even though neither party understands or is capable of understanding the implied meaning of that. Or wants to.
Itâs a literal funhouse mirror of that weird pressure put on kids to perform heterosexuality from an early age. It examines how that leaves us unprepared for the complicated reality of actual relationships even if it turns out that you are heterosexual and do want sex and romance. Boys and girls arenât really allowed to be just kids on the same team, so they grow up into men and women who generally want very different things from each other and are trained to look for it in everybody because anybody is better than nobody, and try to force it to work.
Barbie and Ken letting each other go in the end was perfect. Barbie the Every Woman realizing that she doesnât have to be special, she just has to be, and Ken the Every Man realizing he has to seek validation elsewhere and lean on his fellow Kens for emotional support, WHICH THEY GIVE.
Truly a movie of all time.
The urge to bother my mutuals
The Duffer Brothers/st writers must be hiding something because there's no way there isn't any bts videos of Maya and Natalia, no bloopers, and the one time they put a Ronance scene in the poll they also put Elmax and Byler (I don't remember what ships so correct me if I'm wrong), they were obviously going to lose that poll. I will never not think about this.
I've memorized every dialogue from every rhaenicent scene (i am mentally ill)
I feel like this needs no explanation
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IM SAYING IT DOESNT FEEL AT ALL LIKE WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN PROMOTING
okay, actually at this point i'm wondering whether or not vol. 2 actually was supposed to be something else. ignoring the queerbait, they literally didn't add the other things they were going to, for example, the incomplete letter and the "let's start a new party together, you and me" thing. also, mike never "tried new things" like finn said. like...what are they even doing?? it honestly feels incomplete...am i being vecnaed right now?? because holy fuck this is my worst nightmare.
