Can you possibly explain nail guards to me? Or even link to a post you know/made about it?? Are they historically accurate? Was it just the 2 last fingers?? Is it just for aesthetics?
Nail guards are called 指甲套 zhijiatao(literally fingernail covering) or 护指 huzhi (finger protection) in Chinese and is an accessoryworn by women. They originate from the Ming dynasty but became popular in theQing dynasty.
Both men and women of the nobility in ancient China woretheir nails long. Long nails were seen as a symbol of wealth as it meant they didnot have to do manual labour. (This practice didn’t end with feudal times. Evennowadays you will see men in Asia with very long pinky nails, which is seen asstatus symbol of wealth and the fact that they don’t have to work with theirhands.)
