If you're in the US military or National Guard, and are given an illegal or unconstitutional order, the GI Rights hotline (1-877-447-4487) is there to help give you the support you need to do the right thing by refusing it. It would be good to think about this now before it becomes a live issue for you and it would be smart of you to memorize that number.

You can fight AI in indie publishing by leaving reviews.

Seriously.

Ai-generated garbage is flooding the self-publishing market. It works as a numbers game- put out ENOUGH fake crap and eventually someone’s aunt will buy them the ebook as an unwanted gift, and you’ll have made two dollars. This tactic works at SCALE, which means real independent titles are now a needle amongst a haystack of slop.

If you have read a book this year that has less than 5 reviews, your rating is an algorithmic spotlight on that needle.

A one sentence review helps. Really. A star rating helps if you really can’t think of anything to say, but if you can muster up even “I laughed at the part about the tabby cat” you are doing indie authors a favor like you cannot believe.

(Also if you left a review on one of my books this year I am kissing you so softly on your forehead and I adore you)

THE ERA OF VANISHING HAS BEGUN

THE ERA OF VANISHING HAS BEGUN

They are not arresting people. They are vanishing them.

Rumeysa Ozturk wasn’t read her rights. She wasn’t told why she was being detained. She was walking to break her fast in Somerville, Massachusetts when masked men in an unmarked SUV pulled up, took her phone, slapped on handcuffs, and dragged her into a vehicle like she was some kind of national security threat.

She’s a doctoral student. A Fulbright scholar. A trauma researcher. But in Donald Trump’s America, she fit the profile: Muslim, foreign-born, sympathetic to Palestinians.

Now she’s locked in a for-profit detention center in Louisiana, hundreds of miles from her lawyer, after a federal judge specifically said she wasn’t to be moved.

They moved her anyway. Because rules no longer apply to those with badges — real or fake.

A MOVEMENT BUILT ON CHAINS AND COWARDS

Alireza Doroudi is gone too.

He’s a doctoral student at the University of Alabama, born in Iran, studying mechanical engineering. No criminal record. No warning. Just scooped off the grid.

ICE refuses to say where he’s being held. No public charge has been announced. His only crime appears to be existing in the wrong body, from the wrong country, in the wrong era.

Mahmoud Khalil was next — a Columbia student, arrested for leading pro-Palestinian protests. Trump labeled him a “radical foreign Hamas sympathizer” on Truth Social. Days later, he was gone.

Jeanette Vizguerra was taken from her Target shift in Colorado, chained at the waist.

Alfredo “Lelo” Juarez, a farmworker organizer, was dragged from his car at dawn in Washington. His window was smashed by federal agents. His voice silenced.

These aren’t isolated incidents. These are deliberate acts of political intimidation.

They are testing the system — testing us — to see how many people they can disappear before we stop calling it democracy.

WHEN ICE IS A BADGE — AND A COSTUME

While the real ICE disappears scholars, organizers, and mothers, the fakes are circling like vultures.

In South Carolina, Sean-Michael Johnson posed as an ICE officer. He pulled over a van of Latino men, screamed slurs, jiggled their keys, and knocked a phone out of someone’s hand. “You’re going back to Mexico!” he shouted. He wasn’t an agent — but he played one with conviction.

In North Carolina, Carl Thomas Bennett used a fake badge to sexually assault a woman at a motel. He told her if she didn’t comply, he’d have her deported. He held up a counterfeit ID and pretended to be the state.

And in Philadelphia, a Temple University student in an “ICE” shirt tried to storm a dorm building with two accomplices. They were dressed for the part, intoxicated by the illusion of authority, emboldened by the climate.

This is what happens when the state makes cruelty a brand. When a badge becomes a fetish object. When the line between enforcement and cosplay disappears altogether.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS THE CRIME

Let’s stop pretending this is a coincidence.

This is a unified strategy. The Trump administration is using ICE like a personal strike force — targeting international students, protest leaders, organizers, and mothers with surgical precision.

They invoke secret designations. They bypass due process. They manufacture pretexts out of thin air and rely on the fog of bureaucracy to hide the blood on the floor.

The point isn’t law enforcement. The point is deterrence. Spectacle. Control.

This is what political cleansing looks like when it’s dressed up in the language of national security.

They’re showing the world that resistance has a cost — and the cost is your freedom, your voice, your visibility, your future.

SILENCE IS CONSENT. AND WE ARE LOUD.

There is no middle ground here. No fence to sit on. No neutral position when people are being kidnapped in the name of the state.

ICE doesn’t need your applause. It needs your silence. Every time a student vanishes and the media shrugs, every time a woman is cuffed and the public looks away, the machine gets stronger.

They are daring us to ignore it. They are counting on our numbness. They are betting that we’ll keep scrolling.

We cannot let them win.

This is not border policy. This is not visa enforcement. This is not safety. This is authoritarianism with a PowerPoint presentation. This is fascism disguised as formality.

This is the state stripping people from the land and pretending it’s order.

Let the record show:

They took people.

And we did not look away.

We saw it.

We named it.

We raised hell.

And we did not stop.

I could go on and on about why all that AI "art" is bad. I could mention theft, lack of creativity, it's impact on the work field and environment, but countless people have already said all that. I wanted to touch on something that to me is the most utterly wrong about all of it.

Art is more than just something pretty to look at or listen to. It's therapeutic. It's a form of communication. A tool for human connection. It's a pure, human need.

-:"Can two spies be lovers?" Enemies to lovers -spy edition- prompts:-

(As a writer, this is one of the hottest tropes out there—just saying, tag me if you write theseeeeee)

By @me-writes-prompts

"You have no right to save me!" "As a human being, I do. As a spy, I don't. But I still did, so quit whining and be thankful, brat."

They just had to be on the same mission, working together, unknowingly.

"Are you into me?" "What? no!!" "Then why do you keep pinning me to the wall?" "I-..."

Getting locked up in the same place

^^"What are you doing here?" "I could ask you the same." "I would rather die than be here. God." "Hey!"

Having to pretend that they are a couple in a ball!!

"You think you're better than me? Please." "I'm better than you because I'm more dangerous!" "I'm better than you because I'm more dangerous!" Cue a fight.

They just so happen to be in a narrow alleyway, with nowhere to turn.

"I guess you're not so bad after all." "Yeah, you're tolerable too." "Wow, thank you for such a big compliment." "You're welcome." "Jerk."

They need the other's help to escape a hazardous situation.

^^"You didn't need to rescue me or whatever. I don't need your help." "You need it more than you realize, or let on."

"Next time, try not to shoot a bullet my way." "Well, screw me for trying to save you. I wish I had aimed it at you." "*Gasps!*"

The other one keeps bragging, and in a "moment of foolishness", they kiss them to shut them up.

"I didn't know you could do that." "You sound impressed." "Hardly." "As a spy, you're not a good liar." "Shut up."

The unfamiliar protectiveness kicks in when they see the other injured/wounded.

I made these as a way to compile all the geographical vocabulary that I thought was useful and interesting for writers. Some descriptors share categories, and some are simplified, but for the most part everything is in its proper place. Not all the words are as useable as others, and some might take tricky wording to pull off, but I hope these prove useful to all you writers out there!

Some of the biggest fantasy worldbuilding fails that I see, in no particular order

Gods without religion. The Gods are real and a known historical fact, but virtually nobody is religious.

Cultural racism/discrimination without structural racism/discrimination. Discrimination that exists only in microagressions or mean comments, without existing in any sort of structural way.

Secret history with no clear reason for it to be secret and no clear method for maintaining that secrecy. Major parts of the world's history are kept entirely secret, even though there's not an obvious reason to do so and even when history has shown this is virtually impossible to enforce (especially in a world with any movement or communication across borders).

Large, homogeneous countries. Even without immigration, virtually no country larger than the Vatican will be fully homogeneous in terms of culture, dialect, beliefs, traditions, etc., much less a large one with limited communication technology as is often seen in fantasy. The Planet of Hats problem.

me externally: lit teachers arent pulling text analysis out of their asses

me internally: the reason people and especially students like to blame English for seemingly making up meanings where they cant see it is because literature is an art and art is widely regarded as ‘easy’, ‘anyone can do that’, ‘its stupid and useless’ unlike math and science which are widely regarded as difficult but important subjects so while students will readily admit that they have trouble with math or science they’re more likely to shift the blame when they dont understand a more artistic subject, seeing it as a sign of weakness that they dont get something thats supposed to be dumb and easy rather than seeing it as an important topic that’s just as crucial to their knowledge as any stem subject and just as difficult and in-depth as any math or science can be

FAQ

🔹 Is there a word count restriction for fics?

No, there’s absolutely no word count restriction, write as little or as much as you like. We welcome a poem with 10 words the same way we would an epic fic of 100,000 words.

🔹 What kind of art can I create?

Absolutely anything goes: drawings, paintings, collages, mood boards, gif sets, videos, playlists, fiber arts, sock puppets… the sky’s the limit (though not really…).

🔹 If I create a podfic, does the source need to be new?

No, in that case, your creation will be what's new, the fic itself can be older/already posted and also doesn't have to be connected to Flufftober (even tho it should obviously fit the prompt). All we ask is that you have the author's permission to use their work. Some authors give blanket permission, so check for that as well.

🔹 Can I mix mediums or do I have to stick to one?

Yes, please mix and mash different mediums however you like, be it within one prompt or for different entries. We don't bind you to just one type of medium.

🔹 Do I have to commit to one fandom/ship/character?

Absolutely not. Switch as often as you like or write for multiple fandoms/ships/characters each day.

🔹 Do I have to write romantic relationships?

NO! The ship does not have to be a romantic one! We welcome all kinds of platonic relationships, be they friendships, coworkers, teammates, rivals, or something else. We also always welcome stories about family (but this is not a way to get around rule #1!)

🔹 Are reader-insert fics allowed?

Yes, we will always tag those as [character name] x reader (romantic) or [character name] & reader (platonic), for example, Bucky Barnes x reader.

🔹 Is RPF (Real Person Fiction) allowed?

YES! RPF is a fandom - multiple fandoms, actually! - so it is absolutely allowed in this fandom event!

🔹 Can I write for my OCs or even enter original works?

Yes, absolutely! Original works as well as OCs in fandoms are always welcomed! We only ask that you mark these clearly - either in the tags or the post itself. We're not familiar with all fandoms (though we're learning!), so we're not always sure what might be an OC and what might be such an unknown side character not even Google can find them. So the best way to help us is to use tags like #original work, #original characters, or even #OC [name].

🔹 Does my entry have to be in English?

No, other languages are also welcome. We only ask that you clearly show day, fandom, and prompt so that we can easily reblog your entry.

🔹 Does my entry have to be fluffy?

Well, we can’t force you to stick to fluff but we would like you to at least keep in mind that this is a fluff event 😉 but if our prompts send your characters on a dark road we will certainly not restrict your muse. Tropes like hurt/comfort or angst with a happy ending are awesome for a reason, after all. And we'll never say no to smut with feelings, in case you wanna add spice to the fluff 😏

🔹 Can I combine your events with others?

Yes! We actually always encourage that. Especially in October, there are so many events. So if you want to combine us with Whumptober or Angstober to get that hurt/comfort going, go for it! Or if you wanna check out other fluffy and cozy events to make our lists extra fluffy, that would be amazing. We only ask that you make sure the other event allows it as well.

🔹 Do I have to wait to create my entry?

No, you can start creating as soon as you see the respective prompt lists, be that our list for Flufftober or any other events we host. We only ask that you refrain from posting early if it's an event with set days.

🔹 What if I want to post early?

Then we will schedule it to be reblogged on the correct day, but we would prefer you keep this to an absolute minimum as it does make extra work for us.

🔹 What if I want to combine earlier days with later days?

If you use multiple prompts in one creation, we will reblog on/schedule it for the earliest day you used but won't reblog again on the other days. If you post it on a random day and one of the prompts in your creation is from a past day, we'll just reblog it as is.

🔹 Once I start, do I have to commit to all days?

No, you can participate on as many days as you like, even if it’s just one; you can also create multiple entries for the same day.

🔹 Can I just put all prompts together in one big fic?

Yes, you can write one story/a series for all the prompts. But remember, we won't reblog later days before that respective day. So if you want to be sure that your tumblr posts get reblogged in the correct order, stick to the order of our lists. If you don't care about that, go wild.

🔹 How do I use the Prompt Extras?

You can use them to replace as many original prompts as you like; you can combine them with the original prompts; or you can use them in addition to the original list to have more prompts in general. It's all completely up to you.

🔹 What if I don't get done before the event ends?

Late entries are always welcome, even months or years later. The only requirement then is that you MENTION US (using the @ in your post) - we will stop checking the event tags once the next big event starts! Also, reblogs will happen slower/further apart unless you post your fic during our next event when we'll reblog regularly again.
